Alan Parsons Project

A couple of nights ago I had a talk radio station on and they had Alan Parsons as a guest. AP used to be with the group Pink Floyd. How many of you remember Dark Side of the Moon? I am dating myself here and unless you are over 45 you probably either have never heard it or only heard it as an oldie. So ask your parents if they are in the age bracket of 49 to 65 if the have the tape(yea thats right.....tape as in cassette). Alan Parsons also started a band Alan Parsons Project and ever since he has been on the radio I keep playing the song in myy mind, Eye In The Sky and Turn of A Friendly Card. Now I know this is gonna make me sound old too. BUT....THOSE WERE THE DAY. NOW THAT WAS MUSIC>

hiya muscles4me Yep I do.. 'Money' was one of my favourite tracks.. and it was a good remake of the song from the movie 'The Italian Job' I don't know who sang it though. Those sure were the days Alice happy [Aliceinwebland]
Yes hey were. Mostly I listen to talk radio because I am into that for some crazy reason but after Alan Parsons was on talk radio the other night it makes me want to turn on the oldie station. I will save that for the car though. [muscles4me]

I'm a Pink Floyd lover, and was was introduced to them by my ex husband when I was 40, 15 years ago. I got every one of their albums after seeing The Division Bell tour (twice!) and Mr. Gilmour instilled in me a need to learn how to play the guitar, for which I'll always be grateful. I don't play well but I have fun! Sadly, my collection of memorabilia and music was sold to pay attorney's fees during the divorce but I've picked up a few of the cd's. Have you listened to Roger Waters' solo work? Radio Chaos is a great album, and I love "What God Wants" from "Amused to Death". I could go on and one for days, but I won't. One of my favorite things to do is run over to YouTube and watch old clips of Pink Floyd, and more recent ones of Gilmour and Waters. [dragon54u]
free legal downloads for music still exist? i've been looking for a while for free that had decent oldie's songs. if you find a good one, can you post it out here... pretty please [4pawsx4]

I am 48, muscles. Not only do I know who Pink Floyd are, but I still own Dark Side of the Moon on record. I am going to have to dig my record player out of it's box because I haven't listened to my records in ages. Funnily enough, I am not very familiar with Alan Parsons Project. I'd probably recognise the songs if I heard them. As far as I am concerned, the 70s were the best musical age ever. The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Bob Dylan, Bob Marley and so many other brilliant artists came out of that era. [Piscesmoon]
MOTOWN wowwwwww! Why did it all end? cry [mysdianait]

I am only 35 but yes I know Pink Floyd and I love his music and the song Dark Side of the Moon. I still own all my tape cassettes from my childhood of 676 tapes all in orginal cases, and I still own my parents 8 tracks a total of 79 left. I keep these as collectables but to also teach my children of the past of music, we love music in our family, and have many that play and sing music. I plan on passing this down to my children to my grandchildren and so on. Now I am not sure about your time and age of the "Good Ole Days", but I do remember my "Good Ole Days", and they were great. Because of the love of music in my family I grew up on what many people think of as the classics or old music, but because it was all the time played by my parents it does not seem old mucic to me even though it was recorded before I was even born. Anyway I love music of all types......So Keep On Rockin My Fellow Mylotters!! [Ozarkgirl]
Wow, you sure are a music lover. Keep Rockin is right. [muscles4me]

Dark Side Of The Moon is of course probably up there in the top 10 greatest rock albums ever made. and The Alan Parsons Project was also very influential to the world of music. but I think it's kind of misleading to say AP used to be with the group Pink Floyd. he never played with Pink Floyd and was never in the band.....he was the engineer on the album Dark Side Of The Moon.......which means he mixed everything........which is in no way undermining the awesome job he did......but he was never actually with the band Pink Floyd. he also was the engineer on The Beatles Abby Road.......but he was never WITH The Beatles either. just pointing it out. ninja [sconibear]
5 minutes tops! but I know where to get more.. the dude lives down dreary lane! [Little_Stormy]

Oooooh the Alan Parsons Project! I loved their album dedicated to Edgar Allen Poe! That has to be an all time favorite of mine! I was dating my now husband when I first heard that album and it's still one of my favorites! I think the guy is brilliant and very underrated don't you? I have to say the best one on this album for me is "The House of Usher"....it's weird but sooo cool..... [hornswaggled]
I would love to hear that again....in fact we have the album of it.....lord that sure dates me doesn't it? I wonder if the turntable works now....hmmmmmm..... [hornswaggled]

Hey, give us some young'uns some credit! LOL I grew up listening to PF, and I still listen to them. Like most kids, the line "hey, teacher, leave those kids alone" from The Wall got me hooked! :) Then my cool aunt rented The Wall movie, and I became a fan for life. I have every album they have made, some on vinyl, but all of them on CD. I have freaking posters hanging up like a teenybopper, and I am 30! LOL I have to say, it does my soul good to see a teenager walking around in a PF tee shirt, it lets me know there is hope. ;) Good music is good music, no matter what generation it came out in. [milkmaid]
No worries, I didn't take it that way. :) I live a block from a high school, so I see all kinds of crazy stuff! Usually, the ones wearing PF shirts are the ones that are skipping school. So some things never change :D [milkmaid]

Hahahahahaha! Sorry for the laughter, but I'm gonna REALLY date myself here... The Alan Parsons Project? Are they a new band? JUST KIDDING! To me, REAL music was Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Creedence Clearwater Revival, etc. Okay, so I'm one of those parents you're telling others to ask. I'm at the tail end of the "Baby Boomers"! doh I actually loved Pink Floyd! (Still do... on VINYL yet!!!) I had no idea that Alan Parsons was in that band! I was kinda flighty back then and knew what music I liked and what I didn't, but never paid much attention to names except for my favorites like The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. Obviously, it was VERY easy to remember Jimi Hendrix's and Janis Joplin's names. whistle I don't listen to too much music these days but, whenever I'm driving to the store or somewhere, I always have one of my favorites in the CD player. I cruise down the road in my BAAAAAAAD SUV (doh) to CCR, Jimi or any of the others from way back in the 60's and early 70's. Right on! Groovy! Far out!!! [mentalward]
Thanks. Go back and read post #6 as I was in error. I think AP just wrote on (?) of their songs so I was wrong again for the cirst time in my life. [muscles4me]

Oh, come on now! Us young-uns aren't ALL that uncool! How could you possibly think that Dark Side of the Moon would be considered an OLDIE??? LOL Pink Floyd is terrific. And I'm only 32! My husband is 43, and he loves all kinds of classic rock: Pink Floyd, Grateful Dead (he's a HUGE deadhead), the Allman Brothers, Led Zeppelin, Rolling Stones, Widespread Panic, Steely Dan, etc. I have to admit, it is really good music, and I enjoy listening to those bands too. [cobra1368]
That always seemed to be music that would make you want to get up and move around, well most of it anyway.lol [muscles4me]

you got that right! those WERE THE DAYS! at least you could understand the lyrics to the songs!!! this noise that they call 'rap music' gives me a headache just trying to figure out what they're saying! also too, back then, every singer pretty much dressed respectfully for the most part and stood in one spot when they sang their songs. today, they have their pants/jeans down to their knees practically, scratching themselves, jumping around like they're having seizures and they call that music/entertainment? i'll have to pass on that. gimme ol time rock-n-roll! [4pawsx4]
thumping base, i hate hearing that. sometimes i'll hear it out in front of the house as someone drives by, it rattles my teeth its so darn loud!! [4pawsx4]

LOVEEEEEEE AP PROJECT!!!! I never could figure out what the project was.. or if he ever finished the project.... but I loved the music he sang while he was doing his project! [Little_Stormy]
If I ever find some on CD I will get them. I used to have alot of cassettes but i think I only have two now. I really need to hunt them down. [muscles4me]

I used to own that tape. I don't even remember why I bought it now. It was for one song in particular I believe. [lilybug]
I am still singing (to myself of course since I sing real bad)...."the sun in your eyes makes all of your lies worth believing."happywub [muscles4me]

Hi muscles4me, Yeah, I am in the of 56 but pink Floyd wasen't my cup of tea but my hubby wasw well into them and he has got lots of Pink Floyd albums also cassettes, and yes we have got Dark Side of The Moon, what a brilliant track even though I am not a fan but i do like that track, yes THOSE WERE THE DAYS. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
That was the track that had me like Pink Floyd also. I would say over half the music I enjoye was Motown though. [muscles4me]

Well, I used to have a boss that was a huge fan of Alan Parsons Project. If both of us work overtime, he would play all of their songs (and Pink Floyd songs because he loved them also). And one song that he manages to put into my head is 'Eye in the sky' :) By the way, I'm still in my thirties and I love old sounds. Cheers! [ingridrepi]
Your boss had good taste in music. I am glad you got a chance to hear that music at work. Nothing irritates me more than trying to work with someone who plays that I WANNA BASH MY HEAD AGAINST THW WALL AND DIE music. [muscles4me]

Yes,I surely do remember that song and that group.I really liked them.Your right, those were the days.happy [dfollin]
Every once in awhile I will hear one of their songs on my car radio(if its on, which is seldom) and it always makes me smile. [muscles4me]

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d78K4rCEfAo http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5-41tg_CS7s http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mGCsa10mYx8 OMG, what a GREAT date to set yourself in!!! I used to listen to Dark Side of the Moon for hours on end!!! And NO it doesn't make you old....just wise!!! I've heard of the Alan Parsons Project but don't remember any of their work. Now I'll be spending my evening looking them up to see what I missed. The third link was quite beautifully done!!! Since you like the song anyway, you might want to watch the video that they put with it. [LadyMarissa]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TGd2UDL9OI8 Is this it??? This is more of what I'd expect out of a former Pink Floyd member...but the others were just beautiful!!! happy [LadyMarissa]

great music! Actually...young people still listen to that stuff so you only dated yourself by saying that you were.happy My daughter and her friends listen to Pink Floyd, Led Zep, the beatles etc etc. [sid556]
Well i am glad your daughter and her friends are hearing the music we enjoyed. Thanks for responding. [muscles4me]

I think you're seriously underestimating the younger generations here, as well as how famous Pink Floyd are and were! I'm 19 and of course I know it! Pink Floyd are one of my favourite bands and have been since I was very little - everyone I know loves them, young and old! I grew up listening to a lot of Syd Barrett too, my mam used to sing Effervescing Elephant to me to get me to sleep lol [LilyLoretta]

I'm not a big Pink Floyd fan, but I did like Alan Parsons Project. I didn't know that he was part of the band. And now you're making me feel old!!!! But thanks for the memories :) [reinydawn]

It's funny how music from your youth can bring back, not so much memories, but feelings. Even music I used to hate, such as Abba I now love to listen to. I might sound like an old fogey but most bands these days all sound the same. When I was younger, if a band brought out a new single, you knew who had produced it because you recognised the style, or the voice. ELO, The Sweet, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, Sparks, The Police, Blondie, Kate Bush - I could go on - You just knew who it was withoiut being told [snugasabugxxx]

Oh yes, i remember that one. I was 18. Cuuzin' with Raymon and Pancho. That was the only tape they had. Get this it was on a 8 track tape! before cassette! LOL!!! That brings back memories. Raymon whinning about the girlfriend he just lost and his brother Pancho pawing. Me telling Raymon to tell his bro to knock it off. Raymon threatening to drop him at home with mom. And that 8 track playing over and over and over the entire cruse. Lol!!! We were all stoned and it was fun mostly. I still have that same album on vynal LP and cassette. [jdyrj777]
More good ones: Rocky Mountians Way/Joe Walsh Cruzin/ Smokey Robinson If ya ever get a chance to go up into some mountians. Take your Joe Walsh and a big dubie. Makes the song 200% better. The whole experience really. The altitude ya know. LOL!!! Then listen carefull to Joes lyrics. O ya! [jdyrj777]

I love Pink Floyd and the Alan Parson Project! I didn't know though that they were together at one point. I do remember that song. You know what the best part is? I'm only 37 and recognize when there was only tape cassettes in the picture. LOL [libby2009]

Well I am 43, I do remember Pink Floyd and I really remember the wall because one of my best friends used to sit there and listen to that album all the time. I don't remember Dark Side of the Moon though. I do remember hearing the name Alan Parson's project, but I don't remember anything they did. I am not sure what year that was though and what kind of music I was in to at that time. [ladym33]

I have not heard of it that I recall, or at least the name sometimes I forget the names of the songs but know the lyrics. I will have to go and check it out. Maybe they have it on youtube,Nope no tapes in mine or my parents house. I love oldie songs though..so I will be checking it out. [mtdewgurl74]

I know Alan Parsons Project, they are the one who sang EYE IN The Sky, I love that song. I love the manly voice of the singer and it is one of my feel good favorite song that I play whenever I am commuting going home. It made me relax by the voice. [grecychunny26]
Now that you mentioned it I find the Eye in the Sky, peaceful and relaxing while at the same time upbeat and motivating. Kinda strange. I really like that song alot. [muscles4me]

I don't remember Dark side of the Moon as well as I do "The Wall". Now that was an album! I had an old 78 vinyl album of "The Wall" along with other albums by Chicago, REO Speedwagon, Air Supply, and Journey. I remember the very first cassette tape I ever bought! It was Lionel Richie and the Commodores! Can't remember what the name of the album, but it was the one with "truly" on it. [carpenter5]
Richie is talented. Was it light blue on the cover with all of them standing in what looked like a cloud? Did it have 3 Times a Lady and Brick House on it? I had it as an album before I went beserk one day trying to find room for stuff. O offer thinks to people and they have 30 days to claim the cra* or out it goes. If its cloths I donate it to the cloths donation bin though. [muscles4me]

I have a Alan Parsons tape! The Best of Alan Parsons Project. An old boyfriend turned me on to them about twenty years ago. They are unique and I did like them. Makes me want to put the tape in and play it. [Yes, I have a whole box full of old tapes from yesteryear] I agree. That was music. Still is in my world. I love the 70's music. I start and end my day listening to it. [celticeagle]
I have to go to YouTube on atleast a monthly basis and go through my favorites of Kool and the gand and such. Very little Motown, mostly disco and hard and classical rock. Eric Clapton and George Thorogood. Such as that. [celticeagle]

I just asked my parents if they had that tape growing up and they just about flipped over in their seats. Wow. :) [csrobins]
Yes. They liked it alot, but they dont have it anymore. I never listened to it either. [csrobins]

tee hee! I may not be in that age bracket. But I can still remember cassettes! Don't worry about age. Good music is good music. Enjoy it! [ersmommy1]
Once you get to be older like me it is kinda cool to hear a song that we really liked(or a group) when we were about 25 years younger. [muscles4me]

I am 44, almost 45 and I remember Pink Floyd and The Wall. I even remember listening to this music when it first came out as well. I probably owned it or some of theirs on a Cassette. I also remember the Alan Parsons Project and some of those songs as well. How can you not remember? [KrauseHome]
