I think many people get distracted in their writings while listening to music. I can't blame you, it is sometimes difficult to come up with ideas when we have our headphones stuck to our ears. Ideas just doesn't flow smoothly but I am just the opposite. Music inspires me and the more aggressive the music the more good ideas keep pouring in to my head. I am doing just that right now multi tasking, reviewing in slicethepie while posting and responding here. But it doesn't do justice to any one site as my attention is then divided between writing and listening and at the end of the day nothing seems to excel. But I guess this is how I motivate myself to find peace in music rather then the cold silent night. How about you? Does that makes your mind work?

hI, Music(ofcourse melodius) always elevates me. Even now I am listening to No woman no cry of Bob Marley and calculating DSCR(Debt Service Coverage Rati0) for next six years (projections). [samson1967]
Oh you do listen to music while at work. But have never heard of that song you're listening now. I suppose that is your favourite. [zandi458]
I can concentrate on reading or studying while listening to music but I find myself turning the volume down when I am writing. It's like it is getting in the way of the thought when you are the one putting thoughts into words as compared to just reading them. [easterangel]
It goes the same to reviewing songs, listening to the music while typing on the keyboard, getting good ideas to put words on the reviews. I have gotten used to doing it in slicethepie and now my mind just goes blank if there is no music accompanying my writing. [zandi458]
Yeah, I like to do things with music. I can concentrate well with it. [donsky14]
Amen to that! [donsky14]
Hey zandi~ You know there are some things that I can do to music, but writing isn't one of them! I can't mylot and listen to music. I get way to distracted by the music! I am really into music and the lyrics so I am too busy listening to the words and it throws me right off! I can do housework and stuff like that to music and it will help me get that type of work done, but writing no way! In fact, I just got 3 new CD,s today and I am dying to listen to them, but I can't mylot and listen so I will wait until I start doing my re-decorating of the apartment to listen to them! [Opal26]
This depends on individuals but since getting actively involved in the song reviews I found out that I can actually fare better when I am listening to music. Though I can't deny that good lyrics do halt my writing for a while. But while mylotting I still keep the music on and sieve from one site to another. Maybe there is a short circuit in my brain that makes this possible. lol [zandi458]
Hello Zandi Dear Friend I love to listen to music while writing or anything else. It soothes me and yes, creates the perfect balance in the mind for me to be productive. I particularly like 'newage' type of music for relaxing and creating. Music for me is food for my mind, body, and soul, and heart. I just love it, as if a part of me is music. Huggles xoxooxhappy [OceanTiara]
Maybe Ocean did not mean just that but am wondering which age or category do we place hip hops? I always thought they belong to the newage? [zandi458]
Yes I can concentrate writing while listening to music but not at maximum volume. Sometimes when I am really concentrating on something the music just 'fades' into the background. Sometimes I do get inspiration or ideas while listening to music, but I will not say music motivates because I do not think it does. It is more like a booster. all the best, ninja rosdimy [rosdimy]
yes i do to it helps alot but dont get to carried away with the song lol XD [superfangs]
I cannot concentrate working or writing when there is noise. I cannot listen to music while I am writing. It is very distracting. [stephcjh]
You really don't need the soothing music while in your deep thought stephcjh? I guess I can understand your style. [zandi458]
I like to listen to music when i am using the comp or doing any other job.I feel it is quite relaxing to have music in the background.happy.But i hate to use headphones.I am able to concentrate and go on writing and do my job even as my favorite music is playing in the background. [kiran8]
I hope so kiran, music remain forever and does not become 'the thing of the past' when I am old and wrinkled. I think music retard aging to a certain degree. It re-vitalize the aging cells in us.lol [zandi458]
Music dosen't bother me as long as it's what I like to listen to. I can't stand anything in my ears so I listen to the radio. [savypat]
lol i guess i can write while im listening to music, but sometimes i struggle to read something while music is playing. [Kaya56]
I cannot do that.It is very difficult to multitask for me.I cannot do more than one job at a time.If i enjoy music,i dont prefer to do any work at that time. [sreejithsreenivas]
It all boils down to individual habit and likings though it does not work well with you that way but people like me it works just fine. You found your own liking and does not multitask. [zandi458]
Oh yeah! definitely. I can concentrate much more when i listen to music. It calms me down and when i listen to music and simultaneously write, the distraction helps me to concentrate more on my writing and thereby increase my concentration ability. You should try this too. [gamergautam]
We are really in the same boat. I can really write better with music blasting away in my ears. lol [zandi458]
Listening to classics and classical music makes me more productive in writing. [bantilesroger]
happy You're right, it has soothing music there. [zandi458]
I find listening to music really distracting but still do it as it sort of kills off my brain cells one by one. I really like the music of Oasis, search up The Importance of Being Idle by Oasis and it's a really soothing calm jazzy smooooth song! [headofaxes]
No, it does not kill the brain cells, music feed the brain cells with that soothing music. [zandi458]
No! I can not concentrate to write when music is on or even the television. Sometimes people talking in my home puts me off also. I like peace and quiet to write. I really can work better with nothing or no one annoying me. [hildas]
Hi hildas, okay I respect your preference and should remain quiet now so that you may be able to do your writing. lol [zandi458]
I love to listen to music while writing or working. It is relaxing and gives a little bit of noise to the room. I hate dead silence. That is annoying to me and makes the time just really go slowly. Listening to music is creative to me and relaxing. [kareng]
I think so! Happy holidays! [kareng]
I turn my radio on for a little bit, and listen to it but when I am trying to write, I turn it off because, the radio starts to take away my concentration, then when it is quite in my room, I can write because there is no back ground noise, then there are time I just leave the radio on, and just write with the back ground noise on.happy [notlistening2]
Music might not bring the flashes of ideas when you are on something especially writing. I can understand that. [zandi458]
I always have the tv on in here in the puter room and I miss half of the movie while responding lol I just seem to shut it out. Also have monitor on so I can heard what grand daughter is doing in the front room when she is up. [Lakota12]
nope I am not even if I happen to put on the music channels it fades in the back ground while I respond to posts lol [Lakota12]
when i was in my first high school year ,i was given a walkman as a birthday gift by my mom.then i was totally attracted by this dingus.i can't take off the ear phone whenever i was studying .thus the walkman got along with me until i finished my college life !i want to say that it gave me a lot of fun .because that walkman was like a silent friend who was just watching you doing everything so that you never feel lonely.it is a cheap one ,but even a new ipod can not give me the same feeling .at that moment ,music help me a lot ! by the way ,i can concentrate writing indeed. [josephjota]
this is a good experience and your story is encouraging and tells me music is indeed a help in flushing out ideas when it comes to writing. [zandi458]
I get distracted while listening to music only when I really like the song and want to sing it or dance on it. I can write while listening to the radio with no problems. Actually I can concentrate on the writing better with music than with no sound at all. I think it all depends what kind of music it is. [RMprincess]
Nothing is impossible with good sounding music. I would prefer some beautiful and soothing music but any track is just as comfortable with me. [zandi458]
i am also like you.i like to listen to music while mylotting.when reading some comments.i am all charged up.but music calms me down. merry christmas and happy new year. [riyasam]
lol, music is not an obstacle for you while mylotting. sometimes I feel it is funny that music with the loud blasting music can really up the spirit of certain individuals. merry christmas and happy new year to you too. [zandi458]
Hi zandi, I love listening to my favorite music while I am working..It motivates me too and make me love to work more! LOL! But, I know there are destruction like I will stop and sing with the music but I don't care about it as long as I am not bored!happyhappyhappy [checapricorn]
Music really uplift our spirit and motivates us to work better on writing like I mostly do. [zandi458]
wow.. I do a lot of things while listening to music. Mainly writing or reading... One of my friend used to study for his exams while listening to music. And he says it makes him easier to study and remember stuff and increases his memory power when he is listening to music. I know a lot of poeple who work in my office listening to music all the time... But they do good work too. I somehow feel that when you are doing multitasking, only one of the task becomes your primary and all others become secondary... In my case when I listen to music and write something... writing becomes primary and much of my concentration is on writing, thereby not enjoying the real music.... weird??? [aaamine]
I really think music makes people more receptive during studies. when my son was studying for his final government exams he had his music on full blast everyday. the end result he was one of the top student in the country. I am quite amaze by the power of music and now I am doing exactly what he has done but of course in a different mode altogether. I tend to get better ideas with music. [zandi458]
Yes, I can concentrate on writing while listening to music. I often put some songs up while doing stuff. It keeps me in an upbeat mood. I got to admit though that at certain times, I get distracted and would rather listen to the songs itself. Or if not, if it is a really serious topic I am writing on and needs my full concentration, I'll turn off my player first. [MariaD]
You sound like me too. Music does not confuse me while responding. [zandi458]
yah...ur right. there r soless people who can do two works concentradely. in olden days they r called "astavadhanas"...they can do 8 works at atime. they will get more respect in society. now a days no one is there ...i mean i found no one if ur writing while listening...it means ur not listening to music. [anilkumar222222]
Maybe this is possible because the mind is train to do multithinking as in multitasking. And this is because I have trained my mind to be able to concentrate on one thing while doing the other as I am also into meditation. this helps in proper use of the brain. [zandi458]
Im a music lover and i don't mind having it on while im doing things. I use to it also. I get so board if it is so quite. Music is always be my companion from house to work. I can even have a good night sleep with the music on. I like to listen the smooth jazz or something very soothing. Happy mylotting [Margarit]
Great to know that you are also a music lover. [zandi458]
it depends on what I am writing. If I am writing something casual, then there is nothing wrong with listening to music, it can even motivate me while writing my thoughts on somewhere. However, if I am writing a scientific report or something like that, then it is just not a very good idea to keep listening music while trying to concentrate on the topic. of course, the situation might change from person to person :) [the_ruler]
Hi, ruler it is nice to see you here. I agree with you. Doing research or anything that demands hard thinking music should take a back seat and do it in total quietness. [zandi458]
i can´t concectrate zandi.even tv on i can´t! because the computer is beside the tv and very close to me so i need to ignore the other side of ears.sadrolleyes [bombshell]
i did zandi when i was alone here.radio on while i am in myloting but i can´t concentrate at all. [bombshell]
I really don't think you can, because I try to study with Kelly CLarkson, and it is impossible. I do love classical music though, it's great, try that if you ever really need to concentrate - it lulls you into stuyding mode. [madeline_sandwicke]
For me it has proven to be possible and as I write here I am listening to a Hip Hop track and it can be done. [zandi458]
I often listen to music while I am writing and music makes me happy, so it has a postive effect on my work. If it is a song in Danish, English or another langauge that I understand I sometimes become distracted by the words of the song, so I often prefer to listen to music in a language that I don't understand. I have song that I often use as my "writing song" and that is the Finish version of "Woman in love". It is a beautiful song and I don't understand the words, so I avoid getting distracted. [Porcospino]
lol..good technique. But it doesn't serve the purpose if I don't understand the song. I need to understand the lyrics to enjoy the song. [zandi458]
Yes...No- I can write when I listen to music, but then I write slower... So basically music distracts me from the writing. I remember in my primary school a teacher of my native language during a writing test turned-on music. And I guess we had the worst test results in that class ever!! We made more grammar mistakes and misspelling in words, plus some did not finish the test or write the essay! [liisafiat]
Are you unsure? Maybe music and writing is not like butter and bread as it needs some kind of weird mind to be able to accomplish something like this. [zandi458]
I cannot have any distractions when I am writing. Music or otherwise. I just find it hard to concentrate on what I am doing if I do not have complete silence. [marcialoyd]
okay I understand you. Not everyone has this kind of weird habit. [zandi458]
I can concentrate if I'm doing homework like math or fill in the blank. However, any kind of reading homework, I would need a certain amount of quiet. Although, I haven't had to do any type of school work for about 5 years. ;-) [CRSunrise]
I think you are one of those who uses music to stimulate the mind. [zandi458]
This is quite interesting! I'm actually listening to music right now with my headphones on, even as I respond to this discussion. I have two processes of Internet Explorer open, one with which I am logged into My Lot and the other with which I am logged into my playlist account which is where I keep all my favourite music. Anyway, I'm diverting from the discussion at hand! I find that music helps me concentrate as it really relaxes me! I study at the present time but I don't listen to music when I am studying. I like listening to music when I am writing on My Lot though and even when I am writing articles for other writing sites. I love listening to easy relaxing music! I wouldn't be able to listen to something with a strong beat. I am listening to Karen Carpenter right now and she has a beautiful voice, so relaxing and her voice is helping me to write. Andrew [AndrewFreyne]
Good for you Andrew, you found delight in writing while listening to music. Yeah I am also always with my headphones on while surfing the net. I'm so used to it that without the headphones I feel odd. [zandi458]
Hello zandi. For me, it depends on the music and the lyric itself. If I was listenig to song that I like, my attention will steer out to the song. Making me write very slow, or worse, stop writing. On the other hand, musics that are soft, makes my mind in peace. It also boost out ideas inside my brain. Plus, it makes me concentrate more. Happy day! :) [Rexdoron]
nooo i alwayss listen music in my bad.... one moment to relax of the stress day... [juniord2]
I remember when I was younger, I can do my home work while listening to music. But I don't know what happened, I can't do it now. I prepare doing mylot all alone. Just like today, I can't really concentrate that much because my mom and sister are here and they are doing a little chit-chat here and there. And our house is a bit noisy now... Happy posting!happy [Llonorra22]
maybe.. happy posting! [Llonorra22]
I am a literate writer in my school i used to hear music and get idea from it, I love writing because its my passion and i grew up with making poems. Now i'm trying to concentrate in creating a book. I love what it takes to me because my mind becomes imaginative. I've enhanced my imagination skills. [Daydreamer2]
I think that is the right word 'imaginative' when we listen to music while writing. I hope you are successful in your dreams - to be a writer. Who knows one day I can read one of your book. [zandi458]
Actually, I tend to concentrate more when there's music playing. Naturally not loud music, but a soft kind of background noise that my subconscious can tune into in order to drown out any distracting thoughts I might have otherwise. Classical is the best for this, since there are no words to be compelled to sing along to. (I'm notorious for HAVING to sing along if I know the words... even in the middle of a conversation) Even if I do sing along, I can usually write or type with great accuracy without losing my train of thought, but reading while singing becomes a little trickier. I can do it, but I may have to reread lines or even paragraphs depending on the song I'm singing. [JeztheNun]
I see that you are no difference from me but I don't sing along as I am handicap when it comes to singing but I love having music to accompany me in my writing as it exudes a kind of feeling that prompts me to write better and more imaginative. [zandi458]
I can't concentrate on writing especially I'm thinking, I will just sit down and keep thinking without listen music or any other disturb around me. Between, when I study, I can listen to music haha! This helps to decrease the boringness too! =) [kidkiller87]
Not everyone I think can experience the uniqueness of writing while listening to music. [zandi458]
If music be the food of love then play on so the saying goes so I reckon it could apply to writing or typing as well. I reckon that music takes the stress out of sitations that we think about all the time so we can concentrate on what we are doing. Have a great day from Deeeky.happy [deeeky]
Hi deekly, it is a good saying and sure takes away the stress and replace it with good thoughts and good ideas. [zandi458]
When participating in forums like this, it's okay with me to have soft music around but when I am writing an essay or an article I can't tolerate any form of sound around me. I need a quiet room with me alone in order to really make my writing perfect. It is so hard for me to put my ideas into writing if there is any sound disturbance. [salonga]
Some people are odd and that I am one of them. I tend to fall asleep if the surrounding is too quiet so I use music to make me alert. [zandi458]
i used to listen music and study maths. I was not able to concentrate on maths witout listening music. Its weird but its true [akangirl]
You're like my son he listen to music to help him solve his maths problems. [zandi458]
I can't really concentrate when there's music in the background. I hated when my teachers would put music on when we had to write an essay. Regardless of it was classical or not. It's distracting and it gives us students an excuse to not be writing our Paper because we can listen to the music! I don't mind music while just doing plain old homework, but when it's something times and graded, I'd rather be without it! [vanonas]
Music is nice but we have our own preferences. [zandi458]
Most times when I'm busy writing on my computer I do have the radio on, but very low and soft as I do find it very distracting if I had it louder, especially if I'm writing my articles and might have to do research into what I'm writing about. Most times as background music I have classical as it's the least distracting to me. [pyewacket]
As a good writer I think you need some kind of soft soothing music to draw out more ideas in your writing. I find music keeps me more alert and help me think better. [zandi458]
well, i don't get distracted while listening to music, since i always felt that music was a big part of my life and it inspires me more than anything. however, sometimes i find peace in quiet as well. it all depends all my mood of the day. however, music does distract me when im working, i guess the stress must be too much for me. ^^ [cherrylover]
When you are stressed thats the time you put up soothing music. It does a lot of wonders. [zandi458]
hello zandi458, No, I can not concentrate writing while listening to music. I can't do two things at the same time. If I will do that, I will end up with something that has no meaning at all. For my brain will not work that much. I'd rather do the writing without music for a better idea. This way, I can concentrate more. Have nothing against music but I can listen to it after writing. I love music for it helps me lighten my day. Doing the household chores with music on is perfect. This doesn't need thinking so, it's just okey. [robert19ph]
Oh okay music does take away your concentration so I think you should do away with music while writing. [zandi458]
hello zandi..im the exact opposite..i cant write or think wisely or seriously if im listening to music...which is the reverse with my husband..i cant even study during my school days if at the same time im listening to it... [vanities]
I see you prefer peace when you're on something. Keep it that way. We are all not the same. [zandi458]
Yeah whenever I have something to write I just sit in front of the TV he he. Also when doing Maths or any other subject related to problem solving etc, I always listen to music. Actually I can't even do that without listening to musichappy.. Happy Mylotting..... [skaaaks]
You seems to be a music lover too. Keep it that way for music is part of life. [zandi458]
It'll depends upon topic you are writing is how much interesting or important to you as compared to songs which you listen during writing. It may happen that, if you are playing your favourite song , then you can neglect or give less responce or concentration towards writing.Hence ,how interesting topic you writing or song or music you are playing, will be important factor behind your concentration. This is from my side and experience. [hottysun]
Since I am reviewing songs, I often listen to the music while writing the reviews and while doing that I am also mylotting. So it is like killing two birds with one stone. I got used to this kind of practice. [zandi458]
It depends on what I am writing. If it is an email it is one think, if it involves more concentration I prefer to have complete silence. HAPPY CHRISTMAS AND A HAPPY NEW YEAR. © ronaldinu 2008 [ronaldinu]
Some people can't have music when they are on some kind of writing. Maybe having music will make they thinking astray. [zandi458]
Hey zand458, Lol, kool question. Um i guess it depends really, namely on genders. For females, they are genreally able to multitask so writing and listening to music for them will be easy. Males on the other hand, may find this difficult. However, these are only generalizations so there will be exceptions. Right now, I'm typing this and listening to music and everything is going okay, but I've noticed that I find it much easier for ideas to flow without the music and if it is on, it is better if it is not too loud. Lol. So, in the end it depends on a variety of factors. If a person can, good on them lol..not many can. Though, I don't know about you but I can't live without music. I listen to it when I'm up in the morning, at work, back home. It only sleeps when I'm sleeping, lol. [imahamo]
I don't know how music touches the genders. But I thought guys are more to music than the gals. Maybe not everyone is into music while doing something. They find it irritating to their concentration. [zandi458]
I can do crossword puzzles, word searches, and things like that, while listening to music. But writing things that require a lot of thought are best done in complete silence for me. I like to give all my attention to important things. I also like to be able to really enjoy the music while listening to it. [Rozie37]
I see that you reserve music for something else and not on writing. I understand that writing needs concentration but it has no problem for certain people. [zandi458]
Music inspires me and make everything seem better even if I had to type a ten page essay. It just passes the time for me. :) [AlbertMARKET]
Great music inspires you more than anything else. [zandi458]
[trubaduru]
I am sorry, I don't understand what you are writing. We only use English in mylot. So please this language only. Since you are a newbie please read the rules and regulations of mylot. [zandi458]
hi dear,,,,, ya for sure i love to listen music while im studying i can easlily concentrate while listening to music ,,,,,,,but the the music should be soft,,,,,,soft romantic music works really well,,,,infact this makes me perform even better [ujjwalbatra]
I see that music and studies goes hand in hand when you are studying. some people can really do it. Studying with music. [zandi458]
Yeah It's happen with me also. When I am writing some thing and listening music also with it.Then I am not able to do both the works at the same time.I does one thing at one time either listening music or writing something. [PRIYANK1992]
So to say you can't listen to music while writing. I agree with you that music can sometimes interfere with our concentration. Do one thing at a time. [zandi458]
I love listening music while writing... It depends form person to person some like it and some don't like it... I guess music really calms you and it helps you in your writing... [PrettyIndGal]
I agree with you that music is very calming and writing while listening to music really bring out good ideas to some. [zandi458]
yes i can, i can do multi tasking as its one of what i do with my job...i can write so much while listening to music makes me respond more and gives me ideas...i love music and music is my passion...maybe that's the reason why it works well with me [angel_of_charm]
Like you I like music too that is the reason I run a keroke business and while mylotting now I hear people singing out there while enjoying their beer. Music has grown in me and writing while listening to music inspire me more. [zandi458]
Hello my friend zandi458 Ji,Well, I can concerntrate if music is soft and appeals to my nature, There are people like Nepolean, who could concentrate on multi-fronts and complete their task successfully. I think, if there is a will, there is a way. Music always sootehn one's ideas and helps to generate cordil atmosphere. So i think, music is very importamnt in one's life. Without music there is no life. But, at the same time, I am not acustomed to harsh music please. may God bless you and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
Hello my friend zandi458 ji, very nice of you for sharing your similar platform with me. It is aging factor with me and when i was also young, i used to shout and howl. may god bless You and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
I'm like you; inspired to write while listening to music. In fact when I write poetry in Allpoetry I choose tracks depending on which sort of poem I'm writing, sometimes metal, sometimes progressive rock mellow tracks and I've written some excellent poetry because the music's guided my thoughts to a higher plane! Sometimes the lyrics inspire me to write a poem but usually it's the music itself that puts me in a certain mood. When I'm writing articles or something serious I prefer not to listen to it though. It helps my creativity but not so much my powers of concentration when researching etc. [aslanlight]
Yes I love music, I like playing guitar as well as listening. This is a good discussion! Kudos [aslanlight]
it is possible and i am doing it all the time the main reason is taht music gives my mind more fresh and gives me more and more concentrattion to write so ti is common for me [rajesha20]
we share a common interest in music and also writing while listening to music. [zandi458]
I nearly always have music playing in the background when I am writing. I don't exactly listen to it, it is just there. I am a therapist and musician and have realized the value of music when studying/concentrating. Experiments have been carried out with students who gained a much better understanding of their studies when studying using music. Motzart compositions of 60bpm (beats per minute) were found to be the best study aids. 60bpm was thought to help because it is the rate of a healthy heart at rest.. :-) Derek [derek_a]
Thank you for your comments and this discussion. I think we all get to learn something that is of value. :-) Derek [derek_a]
I cannot listen to music while writing, it is really hard to do both. I can read and listen to music or watch tv but when I am writing I just have to switch off and concentrate on that. [gemini_rose]
Yes music can be a hindrance to some who requires peace and concentration. [zandi458]
I guess it depends on what i am writing. If i am writing something which requires me to think of ideas then it is really hard to do with the music on but i think its ok if the music is not so loud. But if i am just writing something wich does not requre much thinking like just copying something any kind of music wont affect me. I actually know someone who could even sleep with loud music on and could not sleep with soft music. I think its a little weird because its really unusual for people to be able to sleep with loud music on. But i guess it just depends on what the person is used to, maybe the person is just used to it, who knows. [jewilim]
You're right it all depends on individual. We all have our own preferences. [zandi458]
yes ,i agree with you becoz i too do the same .iam a student i listen to music and read during my exams time becoz it frees me from my tensions.i am not distracted by music [sanapal_bhar]
iam a mad music lover [sanapal_bhar]
No, I cannot concentrate while writing. I cannot do multi-tasking. I concentrate on one task at a time. When I write on mylot, I want complete peace, I do not want anybody to disturb me. I can only write, while there is calm and peace around. If I play the music along side, I can not enjoy either of the two. If I have to listen to music, I concentrate only on music and love listening to it with full intent. I wounder how some people can write or read, while listening to music. [dpk262006]
I get what you mean. I did not realize that I have this 'extra' sensory in me to be able to write while listening to music. Honestly, I develop this extras from the net and doing it everyday has polished my skill and now immune to it. Listening to music while writing gives me the comfort and draws out more imaginative ideas. [zandi458]
ya i cant concentrate while writing if the music is on . but when u are stressed music is a good medicine. [mortalking]
Maybe you need to develop it as I did by constantly listening to music while mylotting. [zandi458]
hi, i thing is for sure with humans, no two humans in the entire universe are thesame i.e pshycological aspect. we are quite different and these differences mosttimes are revealed and marked. there are those who find it extremely convinient to listen to music while writing and it gives them more inspiration in their writing, while some individuals see it as their greatest distraction during writing, throwing them off-balance and also makes them nervous and confused. basically i think it depends on the individual's level of concentration and also how they feel while listening to music and writing at thesame time too. some individuals prefer the silent nights even more silent than the cold old grave yards of the dinasours. i also believe what an individual is writing on matters too. writing on a very complicated topic, say medicine and health, i dont think music will be of great importance at that point in time since what is being dealt with is human life and likewise many other topics too. i do believe that utmost and tremendous concentration will be derived from writing in a very quite environment. from a Medical perspective, our nervous system is divided into various Parts and the part that is concerned with tasks such as writing is the medulla oblongata; this part is responsible for higher mental activities such as thinking and reasoning and any distraction what so ever will cause it not to function at its best since the human brain performes batch processing and not multi-processing on a given task at a moment. [jbond_007]
You gave a viable contention to this discussion and is noted. But wish to add that every human have varied likes and dislikes and habitual actions that sound weird may be a delight and inspiring to others. Listening to music while writing may not be something that everybody can do. Each of us have to unearth something in us through trial and error before we find something comfortable that can be pursued. [zandi458]
No Not at all.I have to pay attention and concentrate with my heart into whatever I do.It is always one thing at a time for me.Especially the things I like.If I start to listen to music as I write I will forget what I am writing and get involved and go into the music and drop my pen.happy [balasri]
May be I have to learn a lot of things.I will try dear.happy [balasri]
I find that I am more productive when listening to mucis because it keeps my mood up. I do paperwork all day for 8 hours, and the deadlines can be a little heavy. Also, I have ADHD, even as an adult, and I need something to siphon the agitation of sitting still (people with ADHD simly can't do it). The problem with the condition is also the good thing. Intense attention to detail. The problem is that every noise is a distraction and every conversation grabs my attention, and it is hard to concentrate. The music helps me to focus on my work and the tunes. Two things only. In this way I increase my productivity AND I avoid the use of drugs to manage the condition. [Dragonofgold]
What is ADHD? Is it a kind of illness? I agree with you that music keeps up our mood, that is the reason the music industry are making lots of income. The demand of good musical composition is forever increasing. [zandi458]
Music drives my creativity, ideas just flow when there is music, but it depends on my mood though, there are times when I just need silence in order to facilitate the flow of ideas. Also, I have to add that aggressive music perks up your performance really well but not all the time, it takes Beethoven or Bach to drive me sometimes. Just like I said mood-dependent. Merry Christmas [anjotorotoro]
Yep, I agree that mood plays a part in relation to what music to listen. [zandi458]
Yes, I can. I'm one of those person who can can write while listening to a music. Sometimes I read Books while listening to a music. hehehe.. I believe that ideas flows through my mind more if i"m listening to music. [jcay_lorna]
I do that all the time. [zandi458]
Hai! You are exactly right. Writing and hearing of music cannot be together. If you enjoy music your concentration would be disturbed to a greater extent. So neither you can hear the music properly nor you can write properly due to division of concentration. [aminul8427]
Maybe you just got carried away by the soothing music and that is why you can't concentrate doing your maths. But most of the time music inspires and motivate the listener. [zandi458]
i love to listen to music while writing, i think helps alot [brandypelland]
Yes, music does really help when we are writing and thinking of ideas. [zandi458]
hmmm , i love to do work with music! i do a lots of work with music! except for writing and reading, it reallly mess up my mind, and no need to ask if its a medical subject!! :D! [innoscent]
yh ur rite! but, der is one friend of mine, who does both simaltaneously and at the end tops the class!! Surprising! [innoscent]
For me, having the television on in the background helps me work better. If I had complete silence, it would be harder for me to concentrate, because everything would seem never ending. [rvangeld]
Oh yes silence scare me, as if some alien being is in every nooks and corner of the house. [zandi458]
Hi, well, we have the same taste... i 2 do the same thing, it really helps 2 refresh z mind... kip it up!! bye... [shehzu]
well, ya, nt everyone, only lucky one.. lol [shehzu]
happyIt depends on the mental levelfrom which, you are writing! Our mental faculties are multileveled. The type of writing decides the level of mental faculty to be engaged for it! I am now writing this response and at the sametime listening to music from the local FM channel by my stereo set at this time of midnight 12 here. I think one can write also like me! Thanks and have a nice day!surrender [Mitraa]
Yes, I agree with you. Actually it is an acquired skill to be able to listen to music at the same time writing here. [zandi458]
I have to have complete silence in order to hear my thoughts. [gowriter]
After all silence is golden and that sounds true to you. [zandi458]
Yes, I can concentrate when I am writing and listening to music. Actually it seems that I can get me done when I am listening to music. Matter of fact as I am responding to this discussion I am listening to music. [MizzLadyB08]
It is great isn't it. We seems to draw some great ideas when the music is blasting away in the background or right to or ears with the headphones on. [zandi458]
I love typing with my headphones on. I actually type better! Typing is best done I believe when a person is calm enough to focus on what he is thinking and putting it into action. Try typing with a new keyboard after using one for 5 years. Can't do it as fast huh? It's because your mind is so focused on finding the new keys (Space between etc.) that your brain cannot focus on the task at hand. With music, weather you are listening to the words and singing along is the key. If you are just using it to calm you down and drone out everything going on around you I think you'll notice you can type a bit faster. [Unholyskorn86]
Oh... but am already a good typist and with music on my fingers become light like a feather and typing in a lightning speed. lol [zandi458]
absolutely - I actually have a playlist on my itunes specifically geared toward listening to music for when i write. It helps me concentrate on the writing rather than outside distractions and if i'm trying to write a certain kind of piece, different kinds of music can help me focus my tone/mood in the right place. [theweerouss]
Okay music makes you more focused. I guess it does to me too. [zandi458]
Personally, while writing, music can be a great source of inspiration. The type of music will make all the difference in the world. If it's busy music with voice and beat, that usually gets pretty distractive. If it's instrumental like music from Movies (John Williams comes to mind), some classical (mostly Baroque), some New Age (any meditation-type music) usually work well. Then again, music, with its sounds and beats, usually tend to bring out certain emotions. So If I'm trying to be empathetic responding to someone who just lost a friend, upbeat music is just not gonna cut it. But if I need to write something with energy, something to inspire people, then I'll listen to my favorite songs, no matter if they have lyrics in them or not. [kingdom1111]
I really believe that music can be a great source of inspiration.Since I am used to listening to bad musics through my song reviews, good or bad songs makes no difference. I can make my way to writing even under worse condition. [zandi458]
Different moods require different preferences for me. Most of the times though, I write without any music on my ears. But there are those times, when I feel I need to hear music (not listen to, hehe)-- so that I can continue on writing... My recommendation: whatever works for one -- he or she should do it. =) [clickmind]
thats true what works for one may not work for others. [zandi458]
Listening to music while writing or doing anything that needs concentration helps me alot it does inspire me. but some times im just distracted by the words of the song. [amrosss]
I think instrumental music suits you better. [zandi458]
Music only as the friend during I writing. Most of my concentration is to my article. During my favourite song, my mouth automatic sing the song, so as make my write concentration descended. But that was not too annoying me. I feel more relax [algalih]
Yup,but i still singing. Because it 's my favourite song. It's doesn't matter. Ha..ha..ha.. [algalih]
For me, it really depends on the situation... let say for me i could write while listening to music in the sense that it gives me ideas in what i am trying to write, but not all the time it works because for me not all songs can boost you mind especially when writting.. [arvintot]
True especially when it is a hip hop song, it irritates me more than any other songs. [zandi458]
For me, it depends on the type of music I listen to. When I'm working on a project, I listen to classical music or punk rock. I guess it's the blaring guitars and smashing of the drums that send this message in my head saying, "must finish work". It so strange. [mishastar]
The drums and guitar are the heart of any good music. The musical echo of these instrument has good effect on the brain cells. It motivates us. [zandi458]
I put on the music while doing my homework all the time. I just need the background music to help me with the boring homework. It feel like someone is there, while you do your boring homework. I am used to it and it doesn't distract me. :D [monkeykingaround]
Music does really help you do your homework. Good news for students. [zandi458]
ya, i can't write anything when i m listening to music.. [hirutsav14]
Well, not everybody can tolerate the noise from music. They want peace when they are writing. [zandi458]
personally listening to music while i work helps me concentrate on wat im doin better idk y its just me. i guess its just the person it varies alot [xxcrimson]
I agree with that. Everyone has their own likings. [zandi458]
I can concentrate fine with any background noise including music. [kellys3ps]
Nothing can distract you then. that is good. You can write under any condition. [zandi458]
For me I love music a lot, but to write while listening I just cannot seem to be able to do it. I sure wish I could, but I guess for me I can only do one thing at a time. I am glad others though can do it. [ken7700]
Yes, not everyone likes music when they are concentrating on something. [zandi458]
hi there...well,most of the time... like 75% unless of couse, i am not feeling tired or i am tired. but of course not Rock Music sort of stuff... Josh Groban songs help me think.. hahahhaa.... something about his voice... sigh... [shiloh_222]
yeah.. how true.. how true!!!! [shiloh_222]
i acn only concentrate on one thing at a time.... when i am writing something and thinking too alongside then i wouldnt want to have any kind of disturbance or noise or music around me..... now when i am writting this post itself my dad's put some classical music in the background like he loves to do every morning and he is also talking on the phone ....which is a major disturbance for me...cos more than the music i can hear him talking with his friend and my mind keeps deviating there all the time..... but i try getting it back to the post but its very irritating in the end!! the music doesnt make too much of a difference unless i like the song and want to sing along...... thats when i would either sing the song or post..... so normally i like it when the house is quite and peacful but sometimes i also like it if there is some soft music in the background..... many times i used to use music while studying when i was in school.... i wonder how i managed to study while music was blarring out of the speakers but i did it!! [shonali]
I think you like peacefulness but soothing music can be relaxing. [zandi458]
Not really, sometimes I found music pretty distracting while I was writing. But the really depends on situation. Sometimes, I found music pretty soothing, and I can write many pages. That really depends on situation on me. I won't say music is distracting my writing constantly. [jzbrynn]
Soothing music are relaxing and it can act as a motivating factor when we are writing. [zandi458]
I actually prefer to have some form of a white noise on while I'm writing or Drawing or whatever. I also like to read with music on but I couldn't really do that up until recently. I think that my mind really works well when it has all sorts of elements going on around it. When I have auditory and visual things to focus on while I'm trying to create it helps me start to think and get a lot of ideas flowing. [jambi462]
Having music around us makes us more lively and it allows the flow of good ideas when we are writing. [zandi458]
I am so glad you asked this question....My friends think that I am weird because I love listening to music while I am writing.....Actually I have a huge problem with silence....If I am reading I have to have the television on.....If I am writing or typing I have to listen to music....I am currently in school working on an associates in Psychology....Every paper I have written I was listening to music....I haven't received anything less than a B yet....So for me in some weird way music and multitasking connect.... [vayguey]
There is nothing very wrong listening to music while writing. I have done that all this while and it really unearth all the words that have been buried in my brain dictionary. So it helps a lot. [zandi458]
I can i love to listen to music while i write something, because i write all the boring work like records and all other college work it's a very boring work because i listen to music i forget that boring work and enjoy listening to songs so i even listen to songs on my pc while i do some browsing and while i gather study material [saichandtalluri]
That is the beauty of music, it makes us forget boredom and find excitement in what we are doing. [zandi458]
Well, I can write an essay about an ancient TV series in Chinese while I listen musics or background musics from that series because these inspired me to write a lot. I can't listen songs when I studying still. [lotdj11]
That is great. Chinese characters are not easy to write. [zandi458]
in my side, i dont like listening to music while doing my writings because it distracts me and will lose my concentration especially when the music is too loud like the rocks song...i can handle the love songs but better not having any..it will gove me peace in mind and as a result better concentration...merry christmas........ [grzdingz]
I understand that loud music can be very irritating when you are concentrating doing something especially writing but once you are used to it and are reviewing songs then it will not be a problem. [zandi458]
I think it depends on what kind of music you are listening to.when I am studying,I'd like to listen to some soft songs, songs without lyrics. [nigelamy]
that is what we call instrumental music and the sound of piano is always soothing which is good for background music. [zandi458]
I find that what I am writing about or where i am writing makes a difference in if I listen to music or not. If i am writing in my daily blog, I always have music going in the background. Depending on where i am in a novel determines if I listen and what I listen too. I think the fact that I raised two daughters while writing my first two novels made a diffeence too. Sheila being ill, sometimes she could not keep the girls occupied while I wrote. Amazing how one can write a half of a chapter in a thriller, wipe a butt and give a little girl a Glass of juice and sit back down to finish the chapter, all in one swoop. lol I learned to tune in to the screams that might be important and the ones that simply went with two little girls playing ponies. What i am writing also determines what I listen too. If I have a romantic chapter happening, I will often put in music to make that mood more real as I write. Sometimes, I need a little Alanis M to take me through a section and sometimes LeeAnne singing "probably wouldn't hurt so bad" brings to me the sadness of emotions needed to make the reader feel my tears. Music is to me the unwritten novel inside of ones heart. I think it is very much an added plus to writing. And I am reminded of my daughter, away at Culinary College at the time, calling me and asking if I could send5 of the C.D. that I had written and produced all the songs for. She said the one she took with her to college was being "Borrowed" every night by her 4 roomies. It seems they found the music perfect to do their studies by. I of course sent 10 just to be sure my daughter always had one. SMILESSSSSS... I do think that music enhances ones writing and i have it playing most times when i am writing in a novel or blogging. It is also the reason that when someone orders one of my novels, I always send one of my C.D.'s along with the novel for free. Listen to the music and enjoy the novel at the same time. It doesn't get better than that. yessss, I know, as always i was long winded here. Sorry... Always, Darrel [Dday50627]
I am delighted to know that my words have an impact in you and as a 'senior' person my words come with weight and I just don't blurt out without hitting the target. Since I am well informed of your situation and can feel the pain and burden you are in I can't do anything to make your life comfortable but only words of comfort find my way to you, it might not be much of a help but surely your gray days on earth will pass. Holding on to past memories not only burden your mind but joy and happiness are reluctant to come knocking on the door of your heart. It is often said that your own burdens grow lighter as you share those of others. They grow lighter even if you realize those of others! [zandi458]
well, i find that music during my work id not a distract, but a pleasant atmosphere, as long as it not louder than a 2 or 3 degrees on the scale of your dial, but, if u are used to hearing your music loud, can't help ya there... i`m a fan of various types of music myself, i listen to old music while i`m at work, mostly because no one listens to anything else there, and if i`m doing anything else at home, i listen to classical symphonies, sometimes even Techno and Trans, and when i`m chillin , or doing some manual labor at home, i love to listen to songs, and i mix'n'match my music, but enuff about me, how about everyone else?? what do YOU think???!!! [s8tern]
You seem to have a wide choice of favorites songs and by it I know you are a music lover. Oh you can really do your work with music and that is good as music is part of life. [zandi458]
haha i cannot i always end up singing along and being distracted :D [brianna90]
Sometime we bound to sing along to our favorites song when we listen to it. Well, it kind of distract your concentration. [zandi458]
yes, I was thinkin about that to...for me it doesnt go, cause I just can't use one site of my brain at the 2 time, of cores there people that are little smarter then ,me and can do verious this in one time, for this writing and listinging to music at the same time... I year ago we had exually test on school about, this issue/subject.. the class was split into on part where makin the test with music and the other one without the music. and the results where that the students not listing music where better then the one listing music; of course this could be a pure toeval zijn. cause not everybody thinks the same... like everybody else [Rnbforme]
You're correct but what about those who do song reviews who listen and write their reviews and surely when you do this almost everyday you soon get accustom to the idea of listening to music while writing. Listen and write what you think is what is supposed to be done in song reviews. I think some people can do that well. [zandi458]
yup i can.. i'm listening to music rite now.. and writing posts in mylot... maybe im used to multi tasking.. lol.. sometimes i watch tv and post in mylot... [j47lee]
Great, you are not distracted by music when you are writing. It comes in naturally if you are used to it. [zandi458]
hi friend i am usually a music listener....what ever i do or whenever i have little free time ,i used to hear music only..i do writing while listening to music..that happpens daily..thanks adhavgeek [adhavgeek]
We all do that, listening to music while writing, but doesn't apply to some as they can be distracted easily. It will take sometime to get used to it. [zandi458]
Yes...music really is an inspiration to me and it makes me think of so many things and gives me a lot of ideas in mind. But it sometimes depend on what type of music I am listening to. If it's mellow or r&b, I can write so many things and if I am listening to rock, I sometimes tend to write short ones only. [cfmedrano]
I think it does, music motivates and inspires us. Good that you are into it and can listen to music while writing. [zandi458]
I write quite well with music blaring in my ears. People ask me how that is possible. Truth is, after a while I just zone out and don't hear the songs. Music doesn't really inspire, me unless I'm writing a romantic highly emotional scene, then I'll play slow (love) songs. I mainly play music to keep me company, to drwon out my neighbors and to keep from falling asleep, (but I do anyway, no matter how high the volume). Now, watching TV while writing inspires me, helps me write new material. graphic by pennyparker2.com/ [penny78]
I sure will come back to check on your latest addition to your blogs. [zandi458]
Lately I am. I'm easily distracted by everything, especially music. I can't even sleep unless it's completely silent. When I was younger, I would blast the music up, have siblings fighting in front of me, and I would still be able to read like a pro! Maybe it has something to do with age? I'm 17, and the older I get, the worst I get. [xxxmetalettexxx]
No you're not old to denounce music. The musical craze is at its peak at your age. So what a pleasant surprise that you are not appreciating music at your age. Music makes me feel young and never tire of listening to any kind of music except for hip hops. [zandi458]
Yes it's true.It is hard for me to concentrate writing or even reading while listening to music. So I have to turn down the music before my writing or something important in order to concentrate. But sometimes music does inspire and bring me good ideas, and music always let me in good mood! [quyiishahaoran]
Yes soothing music is so relaxing that it inspires us and bring in good ideas. [zandi458]
Hi! I'm one of those people that work better if they're connected to their headphones. I'm currently listening to some Greek music, completing some tasks at work and myLotting. I'm also listening to music when I write essays for my masters' classes, when I'm e-mailing my friends or chatting to them, and even blogging about the things I love to do or see. Anyhow, music is an essential issue in my life. I very rarely forget my mp3 player at home, and I'm quite sad and bored when I'm forced to walk around without it. I don't like hearing the noise of the street or the surrounding world. I've been listening to music on earphones for a long time now. I think I started when I was in highschool, about 8 years ago, and never stopped since. I like to listen to music when I do my work or when I ride my bicycle around the park. Yet, I understand the people who say they're distracted by music or loud music. I think they might perceive music the way that I perceive the surrounding noise, when I'm riding the bus or the subway. I don't like it and I can't focus on reading in such places. Keep musical, it enriches the spirit! [goodkat]
Nicely worded here. I have no reason not to believe that your educational success is partly because of having a good taste of music and most importantly liking it but most of it of course you have the brain and the will to succeed. Music stimulates the mind and keep the brain cells more active, alert and receptive to studies. I have no doubt that music is part of our life and without it I think our life is saddled with stress of everyday living and music gives us an avenue to release our stress as musical sounds are very relaxing. [zandi458]
I can't\ I can only concentrate doing one thing ,and i can't put up with the other interfences .I like the quite place when writing ,only in this way ,my brain can keep running orderly .nevertheless, i also like the music because it can give you inspiration and passion when confused.admireing the people who can concentrate writing while listening to music ,ha ha [1988china]
I do that all the time, listening to music while I do my writing. [zandi458]
well i guess it always depends on the person, i, myself study with a music on than to study music off, i tend to get sleepy without a music. and whenever i listen to music it helps me to remember my lessons. well to some, like my friend, she doesn't like any noise when she's studying. [coccaicedo]
Maybe it all depends on individuals. [zandi458]
I actually HAVE to listen to something while at work or writing. If not the silince becomes distracting. Perhaps its from being in the navy and having constant noise [Swabbie89]
I believe your attachment to your navy life has made you appreciate music more and be able to do your work while listening to music. [zandi458]
i can do most anything while listening to music. i love music. i don't use headphones but i listen. [ANTIQUELADY]
Lie you, I am also positive like you! Thanks! [Mitraa]
I Love listening to music, especially online as it s free and also easy to organize & update. I have so many playlists of some of my favorite music sites like Phulki.com ; Raga.com ; Smashhits.com etc Although I can work easily, I am not able to study or write while listening to music. It breaks my thoughts, they simply dont flow..it also hampers my typing speed which I feels slows down considerably especially if it is a score I really like. I have been thinking about the cause of this problem for a long and one of the explanations I have come up with is that I am a very emotional persona nd tend to personalise..imagine and idealise the lyrics of the songs..The lyrics carry me to my own experiences and feelings and I tend to get lost...I have tried not to do this but then I am not able to enjoy the music as much...hence I have given up on efforts to juggle music with reading / writing. I usually ration my time and listen to music while cooking, thinking or just lazing around... [rashmi1979]
It sounds that doing two things at a time is not for you and in that case you should take one at a time as it might mess up everything. I know it sound impossible but in reality it can be done with less effort. We have to get used to the whole concept before we are able to do it. [zandi458]
Certainly I can! Since I have done it since I was a teenager. Theoritically, listening to music will stimulate some part of your brain. The problem is that the result of this stimulus will be different. Different person, different result. Some people will find it relaxing and will increase their concentration and focus (like you and me). Some other people will find this thing really annoying and makes them can't focus or concentrate. For me personally, I need to listen some jazzy, easy-listening, and chilling-out music. It is really relaxing and I can be more focus on what I do. But this sort of things won't be happen when I am listening to hard-type music (Rock, Dangdut-Rock, Ska, Heavy Metal, Boogie-Woogie, etc). [blablablu]
Huh when you mention dangdut I am a bit curios and check your profile. I was guessing whether you're from Malaysia or Indonesia and true enough you are from Indonesia as this kind of music is only popular in these two regions. Well I never seems to appreciate dangdut. It has a boring melody. It is a modified localized version of pop rock. anyway it is nice to note that you can work well with music blasting in the background. keep that up.lol [zandi458]
Its hard to concentrate on writing while listening to music for me. i really love music, so whenever i listen music i forget everything n just enjoy music. so writing while listening music. i guess its hard for me. ;) [niteshme]
Maybe it doesn't work for you. You love more peaceful environment. [zandi458]
I am usually watching TV while I am writing on mylot. Although I miss a lot of what is being said on the TV while I am concentrating on writing a comment. I find it necessary to do more than one thing at a time. If I try to concentrate on just one thing I find myself getting bored very quickly. [savak03]
Maybe you can't concentrate with noisy surroundings. I am used to having loud noises while mylotting cos' the pub I run is just next to the computer room and I often go to mylot during the night while also supervising the lounge. [zandi458]
Yeah, same as I. I always listen to music and even while I'm writing. Actually now, I'm listening on it. Music makes me calm when everything is a mess, silent and stress. Whenever I'm doing something I always put my music on first. It feels like, time for me is more faster than being silent. [micahbrul]
Yes, music is soothing and it breaks the monotony of the still night. [zandi458]
I can concentrate while listening to music or watching tv. I prefer some background noise to nothing at all.I find it helps motivate me in responding to discussions and helps my ideas flow out. [cinderella2007]
It applies the same to me. We are quite unique in that we are able to tolerate noises and music helps to motivate us. [zandi458]
Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, I too love soft music while doingany work including writng, to be true, now it is 0544 hrs . I am in coplete tranquility atmosphere, everyone is at fast sleep, still, I am moniteing humming sound from my UPS/mosqutoes and at times moring birds. But I do not have any additional head phones, which I do not like. Even if some one plays music, no harm. By 0600 hrs, my Muslim friend nearby Mosque would all their 'Allah', on loud-speaker and would wake whole of the locality, will never disturb me, I would carry on writing. I like an dlove music, but should be soft and slow. Happy new year and may God bless you and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
Hello my friend zandi458 Ji, So nice to know taht we fall under same steps. When, we remember our Almighty, is it that we have to sound at such a loud voice to tell others that i am now calling Almighty. Is that worth, or is it calm and quietly. I think, what we do, first we do for ourselves and then for others, I aklso understand, while bells ring either in Churches or in Temples, it may be disturbance to others, and for taht matter any un-usual noise may do so, everytime, we come across planes hovering, trains running, cars/trucks and children fighting. Even Dogs and cat may disturb, but my dear this is a part of life. So let's take it easy. may God bless you and have a great time. [maygodblessu44]
I love writing to music, most great artist and writers create some of their best work while tuning out the world. [powermannx]
its more inspiring working while listening to music, and your playing your fave song, whew! what a feelings.. im more motivated of what iam doing. and its so inspiring to work.. can live with out music.. [carrine]
I find it hard to write even when my kids are making all kind of noise. I wouldn't be able to write if music was loud but if it was low I would just tune it out. Like I am doing the kids right now. They are talking to one another and playing nice. It is so wonderful when they play nice together then I can get more things done. [mflower2053]
I don't mean loud music but something soft and soothing that makes the atmosphere in the room very relaxing. [zandi458]
Listening to music while reading, I can't concentrate. But writing, I suppose so because if I'm inspired to write, nothing else exists around me! Music fades away and I don't pay much attention to it. Maybe my ears hear the music but my minds only hear the words I want to write. This happens for as long as I am inspired. As soon as I have no more inspiration, I start to hear every noise again! :) [DarkEclipse]
It got to be soft soothing instrumental music then the atmosphere is more conducive. [zandi458]
Music doesn't disturb if I am going to write a simple text about myself or to describe my point of view. But if I am to essay on certain topic or doing math exercises, then music can be quite disturbing for me. I usually do my homework after school, that's when I'm tired and it's hard to concentrate. On the other hand, I can't work in complete silence, so I usually turn on TV and turn the volume pretty much down, so I can hear some background noise. [Biomechanoid]
Music is a great motivator and it keeps the mind more alert even while doing writings or studying. [zandi458]
I do love listening to music whenever i am writing, reading, etc. It really soothes me. Right now, I am listening to the song entitled "Let it Be" by Beattles. [France7]
Hi France, yes, it is soothing when you have music in the background while reading or writing. I like songs by The Beatles too but my favourite song is by Elton John - something about the way you look tonight. [zandi458]
Hi zandi, Yes I can concentrate on anything while listening to music but the difference is that I can not let my ear go fully to the music or else my attention from the actual work would ramble. Here music would play the role of a refresher only. [krajibg]
Yes, that is right. [krajibg]
I can concentrate writing when I am listening to music. As actually I focus on writing rather than music. The music is more like a background music for me. I love China [youless]
Those who loves music will always have music in the background regardless of what they do. And I always have relaxing music when ever I am reading or writing. [zandi458]
I never use earphone. Light music as background, esp alone in the room, helps to get me carm down so that wording flow endlessly to enrich the outlines I put down at ramdom when ideas come up in my mind. I do not like silence. I need company of someone, or at least some sound, either from radio or from TV. [zhuhuifen46]
Music fills up the air when we are alone and it is quite soothing to have soft and nice music while we do some writing or thinking. [zandi458]
hi zandi, how are u? yah if i am coping something from a book then i can concentrate in writing while listening to music. if i write something to creat(article, novel, poem, shortstory)then i can't listen music. hehehe.... [shibham]
Very well. Have some music, it will refresh your thinking and that makes the pen flow smoothly.wink [zandi458]
For me, it all depends on the music and how complicated the writing subject is. If it's a really tough subject like advanced physics, I can only listen to something soft, like soft rock or classical music. However, if I am writing something I understand well and do not have to concentrate too hard on, I can listen to almost anything. [inkstainedheart]
I understand when we are on a tough subject we need softer music as background music in order for us to concentrate well. [zandi458]
I too can't concentrate I need silence to be able to gather my thoughts and write. I wish I could do both, I have tried but its just impossible. [lelin1123]
Not everybody can concentrate doing something while listening to music. [zandi458]
