Hey Opal here! I got an outrageous long awaited Boom Box
today and am trying to mylot and listen to music at the
same time. But, I am having a problem, I think! I am listening
to some "oldies" (old music I just got on CD's) and I can't
seem to concentrate and sing at the same time! Does anyone
else have this problem or is it just that I can't chew gum
and sing at the same time? Oh, you know what I mean!

I love to listen to music on my laptop no matter what I'm doing, except studying. I find it more exciting when I am listening to music while doing anything. It pumps me up. I usually listen to music when I'm playing Games on the computer, getting ready to go out, or doing research. Otherwise, it's just boring sitting here on the computer by myself. If it was music that I really had to sing along with and from the past where I could remember the colour of the dress that I was wearing then a big fat NO. I couldn't respond to mylot and listen at the same time. I would be singing along with the music. I love listening to Oldies in my car and I sing and sing like I was a kid again. It is so much fun.lol I do keep a radio on in my office but it is usually tuned to a chat show or something. Hey cyn! When I started out I was singing to the songs and I just couldn't concentrate on mylotting! I can't sing to the songs that I haven't heard from Crosby, Stills and Nash for a long time and mylot! Hiya Opal...well I do listen to my radio while mylotting and usually rock, and then when I'm writing articles have classical music on, but I always have the volume on kind of low otherwise it is a distraction...right now I don't even have the radio on and am typing in blissful silence save for the rattling of the keys as I type....lol [pyewacket]
Hey pye! I changed the music so that I could dance in my seat instead of singing and now it is working out better! Except that I am hotter than hell! But, I'm getting a great workout at the same time! So this might just work out better for me! Sweating, typing and dancing and mylotting at the same time! Maybe I might lose a quarter of a pound? LOL I know what you mean. When I come to mylot I have trouble at time concentrating not because of music but, I may have the television and children on while mylotting. Oh, how I miss having cats. The Dog can't feed himself and if he tried he would eat out of the trash LOL The chickens, ducks and geese don't have arms so they don't feed themselves either. I often listen to music or tv while mylotting...especially when dancing with the stars is on. I have it on in the other bedroom and listen for when the dance begins as I don't need to listen to all the other crap inbetween dancers! Usually when I mylot, I'll like to play a video or listen to some music but it makes it hard to concentrate on the topic I'm posting to. Sometimes when I watch a movie, I get so engrossed into the story that I have no idea what I'm writing about on mylot anymore. I can listen to music and mylot but I can't sing and mylot at the same time. I have a one track mind, anyway. I just about have something going all the time such as music, the television, the clothes washer, dryer, etc. because even though I enjoy my house, it is so quiet. I'm set back pretty far from the road, for one thing. Also, when daddy built this house years ago, he had the walls sound proofed. I was just 7 years old at the time I didn't know this back then. I think i can write on MyLot and hear music at the same time since I am hearing "Stairway to heaven", great song, while i write this reponce. But I can't be concentrated at both things. I think i could not sing and write here at the same time. Also i don't think i can sing and chew gum at the same time, since it would sound horrible, haha. I have to always have either the TV on or music on and if the music is on I might not be constantly singing to it but I'm going to start singing along with the lyrics at some point. Its just the way I am. For me it doesn't interfere in what I'm doing that. I'm the type of person that can't just be doing on thing otherwise I get bored really easily so therefore I need that slight distraction which really isn't one at all. I have trouble sometimes. It all depends on the music that's playing. If it's something I want to sing along with, I have trouble typing or even concentrating. But, if it's something soft and soothing, I find that I'm actually able to concentrate better than without any music. When I was a proofreader, I couldn't work and listen to music at the same time. I was getting paid to make sure everything was perfect so I had to concentrate quite closely on my work. (Proofreaders are the last to see the work before it goes to the printers... and the first to get blamed if something is wrong. rolleyes) So, no music while I was working. But, well, there are just some songs that you can't help but sing along to! I can play Solitaire or some other game on my computer as long as it doesn't take much concentration. I feel more inspired to think and write, and post here on mylot, if there is some music, songs playing along from my computer. I know some people aren't the same, they want to write in quiet mode. But not me. I remember I started a discussion talking about something like a mylot music player. It's gonna some sort of a sortie or a widget that users can opt to play it within the mylot pages, while we are working here. But so far, quizzes are the ones been added. Anyway, I want the sound of music playing while I am here in the office. But when I get home, mylotting with my phone, I want it in quiet mode. I am of a different species, I thrive when there is music drumming in my ears and is able to generate good ideas. I have music in my profile page and whenever I do mylotting the music provide me with good background music to induce good ideas from me. Yes, I often listen to music whilst I am myLotting. I prefer to play an MP3 than to listen to a radio station, because if there are people talking between the tracks, it is very distracting. As a musician myself (keyboards), I realize the value of music whilst writing or doing anything creative. In fact research has shown that students retain information better if they are listening to certain types of music. Sure can do. Once I get my ideas flowing, any music will act as a booster. So, listening to music while I MyLot is a cinch. The best music is background music as it soothes and beckons. My creative juices will flow to the melody of both songs and beat. Yes, oldies are fine with me. Platters numbers are super and so is Roy Orbison's Pretty Woman. Sometimes all it takes is practice. Try doing it at first with soft music. You can feel is is nice to hum along sometime as we do keyboard work. I listen to music all the time when I do ANYTHING so yes I can listen to music and mylot at the same time. I dont think it is a hard thing to do. I can sing my heart out and mylot at the same time if I want. i guess Im considered a multitasker. :) good luck. [nrn2003]

Yes I would actually prefer to do it like this because I love listening to music because it keeps everything in rhythm. It also keeps my mind going and helps me to stay entertained if I do happen to get bored. It definitely helps typing and doing online work move along smoothly and easily. [jambi462]

I normally have the TV on when I'm working on MyLot or Gather. That doesn't phase me at all. When I'm working on my novels, though, I will normally have music going on the computer to relax and inspire me. Most of what I will listen to is foreign language music (Russian, Serbian, Ukrainian). lol Opal, we could never listen, sing and concentrate on doing other thing at the same time for sure. I think our mouth could do a single thing only at one time. It's impossible to chew or to eat something and sing at the same time. If we could the sound uttered would sound indecent and ridiculous as well rasp Wonderful music could make me feeling energetic while mylotting. I always like setting my favorite music as background while doing mylot posts. The melodious music would arouse me to have more to write related to the content of the topic picked. I have a few profiles of favorite music and songs saving in the music area in my laptop. Yeah, I'm enjoying one of them now. It's a foreign language song sung by a lady artist. Though I don't understand the wording I still enjoy the lively beats and rhythm of it. If I feel bored with the music in the profile I would enjoy listening music from CDs or from the videos online. Yeah Jenetx3, I like taking picture of any beautiful and unique thing. I always carry around my small digital Camera as I could snatch photo which I'm interested at anytime. I dislike picking picture from the net, for I'm afraid that I would use the same picture as other member use as well. hiya Opal I can... sometimes. It depends on what I'm doing on the pc and what music is playing. If I'm just gaming I can have music on, or even MyLotting, but if it's something that requires attention to detail, like expenses in a spreadsheet, then no way lol. Some soft background music is good, but if I've got the 'get up and dance' music on I find i'm bobbing about in the chair instead of typing lol As for doing two things simultaneously... Most of the time I have Itunes on whilst I am Mylotting, but I don't sing because I can't sing and I would never inflict my horrible howling onto my family, so I save the singing for when I am alone in the car! But no music helps my creative juices bubble away and puts me in the mood so to speak and I am in full flow if I have got the music on as I am typing away, so I am typing to the music instead of singing, much less easier on the ears of all that surround me LOL! Well, it depends on what type of music I am listening too while myLotting if I can post in here and do other things. Same thing with what type of Movie or TV show is playing in the background as well. But personally sometimes for me it is better to have some music playing in the background instead of just plain quiet just to give you a sense of somewhere being around you other than yourself as well. I love to listen to music and do whatever I am doing online. Alot of it is Mylotting. I listen to classic rock on my playlist and go for it! There are times I get into the music too much and can't concentrate. If you don't let it go to your head it will pass and you will get used to it. [celticeagle]

I can't concentrate on both. By the time I have typed a response the song would already be over and I would not even realise it. I enjoy music when I am exercising or playing. I can enjoy music even when I am playing video games. [VANILLAREY]
I can have the radio or the TV on and know what is playing/happening but I cannot focus on both things properly. Whichever screen I'm watching is what I'm focusing on.
