Do Certain Songs Make You Cry

I have a few of these. I thought about it because I've heard all 3 in the last 24 hours. They are "Freebird" by Lynnard Skynnard, "Wild Horses" the Sundays and Rolling Stones versions both have that effect and "This Year's Love" by David Gray. There are a few others that get me teary but those almost always make me emotional. Even the first time I heard This Year's Love in the movie "The Girl Next Door" it did it heh. So, what songs make you all get misty eyed? If none have that effect which ones just really touch your heart?

One used to nearly make me cry for a while (Do - heaven), since it recalled me a lot of the time with an ex of mine, but as time passed that feeling passed away pretty much as well and so does the feeling of sadness I had when listening to it. [PsychoDude]
I can see how heaven would make you a little emotional if you associated it with a relationship especially. Thanks for the response. [Karmalina]

Yep, I have also some. And one of them is Mama from Il Divo. Everytime I hear this song, I felt warm inside and my mind just wondering around. It reminds me about my mom. I lost her about 10 years ago on an accident. So,...whenever I hear it I'll get sand in my eyes....oeps, means crying, it really touch my heart, bring back all those memories of her and how much I miss her..... [apakabar2007]

worship songs...sometimes they make me want to cry...i don't know why... [maemaemae]

In my experience, songs with an orchestra undertone, or strings, will send shivers up my spine and elicit watery eyes. There are many theories out there about this. Check out "Illusion of Life" by Sellnow and Sellnow, dealing with the music's patterns of intensity and release, and its relationship to lyrics. [sunnyd44]

There's a lot of songs that get me choked up, I don't know about crying though. A lot of Neil Youngs songs have a strong effect on me. Sugar Mountain and I Am A Child for example. A lot of songs by Syd Barrett have a powerful effect on me too. Actually I did cry listening to one of his songs soon after he died last year. I listened to one of his songs (Flaming) on repeat for ages a couple of days after he died. Then there's Jimi Hendrix. He wrote a lot of ballads that are genuinely moving. For instance Little Wing, Angel and Drifting. There's also something about Mr Tambourine Man by Bob Dylan that brings a tear to my eye, I think the lyrics are amazing. [crispeater]

Hmmm, there are a few. I remember a song that played on my wedding day which moved me to tears. It's not internationally known but is popular back in my country. The title is "How Did You Know" and the lyrics go like this... INTRO I remember so well The day that you came into my life You asked for my name You had the most beautiful smile My life started to change I'd wake up each day feeling alright With you right by my side Makes me feel things will work out just fine CHORUS How did you know I needed someone like you in my life That there's an empty space in my heart You came at the right time in my life I'll never forget How you brought the sun to shine in my life And took all the worries and fears that I had I guess what I'm really trying to say It's not everyday that someone like you comes my way No words can express how much I love you Repeat Chorus It was so fitting for the moment that I could not help but cry :) [ethanmama]
That sounds very pretty and like it would be a lovely wedding song. [Karmalina]

luther vandross---"dance with my father",everytime i heard this song i can't hold my tears. [blacksteel]

There are a few songs that make me cry, or at the very least get me all choked up. These are the sad ones about things like child abuse... Concrete Angel, Alyssa Lies, etc. and some sad love songs will also do it to me. Every once in a while some other songs will catch me off guard too, but I never know which ones, or when they will hit me. [kelly60]
I forgot to mention two of my favorites, Tears in Heaven, and Angels in Waiting. [kelly60]

erm.. yep.. there are certain songs that make me cry..let me list a few of them.. erm.. "dance with my father" by luther yandross.. and "butterfly kisses" by .... can't really remember who is the singer.. but it's really meaningful.. i think it's not really embarassing to cry when we listen to sad songs.. sometimes..if we take some time to think back.. the song actually reflects reality.. and it's just like.. you're sad not because of the song.. but because of the real situation.. right? i think it's really touching when the song is relating parents and their children.. how their children will someday leave them .. =) [charlestchan]

Some songs does not make me cry, it just makes me sad, and it makes me rememmber my childhood days. Especially songs from the past makes me feel like I'm really old now. [usernel]

im sensitive girl.for me its just so easily touched by those things like songs or movies.there are some i remembered clearly. parachutes and a rush of blood to the head by coldplay, which gave me a so much in my highschool life.and bells for her by tori amos.and in my secret life by leonard cohen and so on. [lilisay]

Well for me two songs that make me teary eyed are "Still the Same." Bob Seger and the Silver Bullett band. My son-in law was killed in a tragic accident - the last time I saw him alive he had just bought the record with this on and he played it for me a couple of times. Another is "If Tomorrow Never Comes." We had a friend who committed suicide - it was one of his favorite songs and it was played at his funeral. Unchained Melody doesn't make me teary eyed - but after years apart my man who has a beautiful voice sang it to me in a pub one night. It was the first song I had heard him sing after we got back together. It makes my heart do flip flops no matter who is singing it. [us2owls]

AFI's "This Time Imperfect" has been known to make me cry and my friend also. Especially when they play it live. You can see the Singer Davey's emotions in and we have witnessed him crying while performing it also. the lyrics express the exact emotions we felt throught out life and it gives it an even greater meaning to us. [fromthemirror]

Well,Britney's "Everytime" and "someday" do touch my heart. From these tow songs I can see a quite different Britney from what she used to act. Also, the MTV is another thing that makes me emotional. It's different from the other MTVs.She was so quiet and ,you know, much like a mother.:) [winniepassion]

There are some songs that put me out in tears. But i don't find single enlgish song that makes me cry. As i'm from india, regional songs here makes me cry. checkout the video at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FIfzKIRAFvQ This makes me cry and think of life very much. Thanx for the topic. Nikky [sonone]
That was beautiful. I have found at least a few Indian songs I like. Some of them are calming and even sad though they're in another language. My favorite Indian song is Tunak Tunak Tun by Daler Mehndi(sp?). I start bouncing around the house when I listen to that. [Karmalina]

Yes, a lot of songs makes me cry. Especially when I am alone, and I am listening to music, then the next minute I just find myself crying, huhuhu! I am a very sensitive person and every time I listen to music, I cry when I remember something... Songs just really make me cry... [joice86]

The song of please don't die from Robbie Williamsmakes me cry.It was turned on at my grandma's funeral so everytime i hear that song i sometimes cry sometimes i just swallow my tears. When i hear that song it makes me being afraid of being alone in the end of dying alone. [eyewitness]

the one that always gets me is the johnny cash cover of 'hurt' [indium]

Yes! The soundtrack from Armageddon and mainly the song by Aerosmith. I can't think of the name of it, but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. I haven't heard these songs in about a year and a half. Armageddon was mine and my father's movie and he passed away November 05, so when I hear the songs, I cry. I try to change the station so that I don't have to listen. My husband wanted to watch Armageddon last weekend and I freaked out on him. LOL! [Aspenn]

I can´t say I get big tear drops in my eyes by listening to music that´s kind of sad but certain melodys over chords let me cry mentally or i get like goose bumps. [Lewah69]

There's a lot of songs that really touches my heart, but there are only three songs in the world that makes me teary eyed. First is a christian song (and I'm not a devoted christian), I don't know why the heck this songs gets me teary eyed, it's called shout to the lord, here's the lyrics: My Jesus, my Savior, Lord, there is none like You; All of my days, I want to praise, The wonders of Your mighty love. My comfort, my shelter, Tower of refuge and strength; Let every breath, all that I am Never cease to worship You. Shout to the Lord, all the earth Let us sing power and majesty, praise to the King; Mountains bow down and the seas will roar, At the sound of your name I sing for joy at the work of your hands Forever I'll love you, forever I'll stand Nothing compares to the promise I have in You Another one is a song that my mom sang to me only once in my life, but i would never forget it because I was in the hospital it's "when you tell me that you love me" by diana ross, and the last one is a filipino song that I love to sing to my baby when I put her to sleep, this one never fail to get me teary eyed, here's the english translation: Those good old days, I pray won't fade When I was young and in Mother's care Oh, to hear dear Mother's lullaby again The song of love as she rocked my cradle. In my deep and peaceful slumber The stars watch over me in vigil Life was like heaven in the arms of Mother Now my heart longs for the lulling cradle. Those good old days, I pray won't fade When I was young and in Mother's care Oh, to hear dear Mother's lullaby again The song of love as she rocked my cradle. Lull me, Mother, in my dear old cradle Oh, Mother. [shorva]

there is one that makes me cry. pearl jam made a remix of an old song where a guy is driving in a car with his girlfriend and they get in an accident and he watches her die. it was so sad. it's called last kiss [poppoppop111]

Omg everything makes me cry! lol I'm sooo sensitive. Songs like Butterfly Kisses by Bob Carlisle and Jesus Take the Wheel by Carrie Underwood. There are so many songs out there that touch a chord in me, that remind me of something or someone, that grab my heart and squeeze it. Some joyful, some sad. [sapphirencotton]

Yes! Rapp music makes me cry, but not with joy, but from driving sixteen penny nails in my ears with a hammer to try and stop the noise. [herrbaggs]
HA! Well... I don't know if I meant that kind of cry but thanks for the laugh! [Karmalina]

One of the songs that gets to me is "Concrete Angel" by Martina McBride. I never got the meaning of that song until I saw the music video. Another one would be, not really the song, but the movie it's in. It's the movie My Girl and the song is My Girl by Temptations. [jess19892007]
Oh man both My Girls made me sob like a baby. That song becomes sad and happy at the same time after seeing that movie too. [Karmalina]

I have one in particular that gets me teary-eyed. "Bobby" by Reba McEntire. I'm not entirely sure why, but it does. Another that gets me is "How Do I Live" by Trisha Yearwood. That song is filled with so much pain. But the one song that gets me because of personal reasons is "Fall of the Peacemaker" by Molly Hatchet. That song became a hit right after my Cross Country coach was killed in a car accident. He was very active in the community, advised the High School Student Government and other things that I'm sure I didn't know about. Even the trouble-makers loved him. My high school closed down on the day of his funeral, and we rented five busses so that the students could travel together to attend. The busses were full and a lot of students came by other means. The song reminds me of that sad time. [kamalila]

While I'm not the biggest country music fan, I do enjoy a few songs. The saddest song I've ever heard in my life and cannot listen to without breaking down and bawling is "Whiskey Lullaby" by Brad Paisley and Allison Krauss. Another one that gets me is "Everybody Hurts" by REM [jsstevens]

oh man, i am a big cry baby. let me see, wind beanth my wings. i love that song and it makes me think of my mother. [34momma]

Of course there are some songs that deeply affect me.I feel emotional when I listen "Hopelessly devoted to you" by Olivia Newton John,"What's another year" by Johnny Logan,"Angel" by Chiara. There may be some other songs but I don't remember the names of them now.Even they affect me,they don't make me cry. [umitcicek]

There's a few but the ones that spring immediately to mind are "This Year's Love" by David Gray (it reminds me of an ex), "Wish You Were Here" by Pink Floyd (because it's a beautiful song) and "Angie" by the Rolling Stones (because it's such a sad story behind it). There are probably others because I'm always getting emotional about songs but these are the three that occur to me straight away. [Stiletto]

I would have to say yes especially if Im feeling alittle depressed then I will cry for sure. Im bad with names so Im not even going to attempt naming them.LOL [TerryZ]

Alot of songs make me cry they usually have a meaning behind them for me like maybe it was a song shared by me and someone who was really close to me and maybe they are not no more. Gosphel songs always make me cry though. One of the songs that always make me cry is one called Just Close your Eyes by Westlife. This makes me think of someone special who is away. I will give you some of it Just Close Your Eyes Tommorrow morning i have to leave But where ever i might be best believe i am thinking of you Cant beleive how much i love you All we have is here tonight We dont want to waste this time Give me something to remember baby Put you lips on mine And i love u forever Everytime that we find ourselves apart Just close your eyes and youll be here with me Look to your heart and that where ill be Just close yours eyes till you dirft into dream Youll never be too far from me If you close you eyes. [kitkat1]

When I seperate with my former bf, I will cry if I listen to some sad songs. I think it is connected with my mood. Now if I listen to those songs I will be in bad mood, but I will not cry. But when I see some words about relationship beteen my former bf and I, I will drop tears, but not cry. Actually, he indeedly lived in with me for 3 years. He existed in my life. I think I can't forget him completely. Few days ago, I found an article about the same topic 'Don't forget,he existed in your life'. I can't help myself ot drop tears when I read it, it is a good article. Now we have seperated for 3 years, but I will drop tears when I read it. [wonderful1]

They don't make me cry but there are a few songs that make me tear up, a couple by Peter Gabriel, One Thing by Finger Eleven, and You Are My Sunshine :( [brimia]

The songs that made me cry are those that may not touch my heart but closely reflect the emotions I am going through or have gone through. Often, they are sad songs. Can you imagine that I can get misty over Silent Night Holy Night. I cannot believe it myself! [whyaskq]
