Do You Choose Music According To Your Moods Or Will Any Music Do

I think music is one the beautiful things in life available to us. I do choose what to listen to according to my mood. If I am sad, for instance, I might listen to sad songs as a way to express how I am feeling. Songs often say it better than I can. Or, I might choose "happy" music to try to chase away the sadness. Peppy music is good for when I'm cleaning house, and relaxing music for when I am feeling tense. How about you? Do you choose music according to your moods? Or doesn't that play a role? If it does, what music do you listen to, depending on your mood?Karen

responses and comments:

for cleaning house, its disco music, long car trips its something that i grew up listening to that i know all the words and can sing along with the cd. there is no kind of mood in this world that would make me want to listen to gospel or rap! i'd rather listen to silence than that 'stuff'! LOL [4pawsx4]
LOL, yes, sometimes no music is far better than bad music. You've reminded me of how music can keep one company on a long car trip : )) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi there! I generally like RnB but I also listen to different kinds of music depending upon my mood. When I'm happy or when I feel down, I listen to RnB to magnify my happiness or to lift my moods up. When I feel like reminiscing, I listen to old songs, the ones that I grew up listening to, mostly rock, metal and some pop. When I am overwhelmed with love and wants to add even more sweetness to it, I listen to ballads. And when I'm just hanging out with my younger cousins and sisters, some pop/rock band music is what we listen to. [nanayangel]
I love the choices with which you've matched your moods. R&B is great, using it just as you described. And nothing magnifies love like a great ballad. Thank you for responding : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I love music. When I am in the car I almost feel like I can't breathe if I don't have music playing. I choose my music for the way I want to feel. If I am sad I listen to peppy or inspirational music to cheer me up. This especially helps when I don't feel like exercising because I can't not move when I hear certain songs. [wendywhy]
I agree! Some music just begs us to move. It works that way even with toddlers and babies. Thank you for the input : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

i don't know why i am only like listening to the old song and always thought that the old song is best,i took few time to listen new song or pop song,i always choose those old song to sing when we were in ktv and the song of the style were sad tune.lol:)is it strange for me ? [chingmerry]
No, that isn't strange at all. I believe that our youth is probably the most carefree time in our life, so it makes sense to go back to the music we loved then. It makes us remember how good we felt at the time, and helps us feel better even now. : ) [PeacefulWmn9]

I actually really love just listening to anything. At anytime. No matter what my mood, I seriously don't care. XD [kat_lane]
So you are a music lover. Period. And that is great! Music is a blessing. I do not dislike all of any genre. There is some good music in each one. Thank you for responding to the discussion. : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

No, I don't choose "according" to my mood. I usually listen to rock, emo, alternative, jazz, and instrumental music. Rock music fires me up. It's like giving me a positive energy. I like listen to jazz music because it's kind make my body sway. 'Doesn't matter if I'm sad, happy or mad. I like listening to music. [AltheGreat2430]
It sounds as though, yes, you just love music, especially the up-beat kind. : ) Music does help each day and night go better. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Yes. I choose music according to my mood. Any music can please me when I'm in a happy mood. When I'm so depressed, divine music helps me a lot. In times of worries, patriotic songs, and a traditional music of India(Chendai Melam) help me come out of it! [Jevendiran]
Beachstarz, I agree. Certain kinds of music just seem to go better with certain moods and activities than other kinds : ) I pick accordingly, as you do. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

i have music that motivates me all the way from the time that i get out of bed all the way through the day. i have music that i play on my ipod when i am cooking, then some travel music when i run errands and there is also music that i play when i am working. most of it is metal, sometimes my moods do influence what i listen to. if i am sad i listen to melancholic music to match my mood. [mama_bear]
ha ha yeah, the more high energy music gets me through the rough parts of the day. i do love the heavier stuff when i am cooking ha ha. [mama_bear]

The type of music i listen will vastly depend on my mood. If i'm stressed i love listening to music rap or jazz and when i'm at a peacful state of mind i love soft songs.Well my all time favorites are lie Frozen from Madonna and Whenever Wherever of Shakira and a few regional songs :) [divkris]
I think this is why most people have such a wide variety of music. It's to suit or change our moods. I like Madonna, too, and Evanescence, and a million others. Thank you for your input : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Most of the time i'm listeneing to music on the radio, especially when driving. As such i do not get to choose the kind of music. But when i do get to listen to music on my own, then i normally choose the type of song depending on my mood. [alokn99]
The radio offers variety, though. There are some stations I like more than others, depending on the type of music. And like you, when I have the option, I pick what suits my mood. I do keep some favorite Cds in the car. : ) I appreciate you responding to the discussion. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

depends on my mood and what i am doing, when i am at home i usually listen to groovy and lively songs like those by pussycat dolls and pink..it gets me on the mood to move and clean lol when it is rainy and sleepy..lol i listen to those music that would make me fall asleep right away and when i am in the office, i listen to something that would make me awake hahaha [jazel_juan]
Ahh, but these are all good ways to enhance your life, yes? Thank you for answering in the discussion. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I like to be surprised, so I listen to the radio! cool [ltmoon]
LOL, I like your attitude! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I choose music according to my mood. Mostly I choose soft and slow kind of music , one which is melodious. I can't listen to music which has too many fast beats or loud music which I can't understand. It must be something which makes me feel relaxed and which can calm down my mind making me to feel comfortable listening to it. [gayathrigs]
This is understandable. The world and our minds move so fast that soothing music really is a good way to calm down. :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

yes i listen music according to my mood. When ever i got bored click ptc ads i listen pop music and when ever my wife is near me or when we eat food we listen love songs. its all upon my moods. [chimrani]
Pop music gives me more energy when I am bored, too. I love the idea that you and your wife listen to love songs together : )) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Yes, I agree with you. I cannot imagine how life would be like without music. I listen to music when I do housework. Music seems to make hard work easier. But when I am sad, I dare not listen to sad music, otherwise, I would be sadder, even cry. I have tried listening to happy music. It didn't work in making me happy. At this moment, I would turn to comics--films or TV. Though the programs maybe stupid, they do chase away my sadness. May I have you as a friend? Thanks! [wonderful07]
Yes, I would love you to add me as a friend : )) I feel as you do: music makes hard work easier! And I am glad you have something, the movies and TV comedies, that help chase sadness away! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

The music I listen to changes with my mood as well as they way i listen to it. When i am sad i listen to soft music and when i am happy i listen to fast ones. When i am angry i try to listen to soft songs but then go and play a hard track. When i am in no particular mood i like to listen to songs with good bass and i take out my earplugs and open the deck. lol [mnhthegreat]
LOL, I love good bass!! And yes, it would seem you love to match your music to your moods. I think many of us do that. Thank you for responding! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Nope the songs already have it so I don't have to bother myself anymore if the music is according to my mood cause the song chooses it for me. As long as you fee and sense the music, there's no such thing as according it just comes out. [justmeh]
See? This confirms my own thoughts that music can say what we're feeling better than we can, or that is has a definite impact on our moods : )) Thank your for your input! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I absolutly listen to different music depending on my mood. Thats what makes music so great, you can find a beat or lyrics that make you feel better or pumped or sad. It's a way to feel like at least someone out there understands how your feeling even when sometimes it feels like there is not. [sway2513]
I think the same thing. Music lets us know we're not alone in how we feel! I like your thoughts on it. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

well i guess it very much depends on my mood. somtimes when i am like really hyper and excited i will like to listen rock songs. blast the amplifier abit and bang my head alittle. Well but sometimes during the sad moments and the quiet times i just wanna turn on some classical music. I dont really stick to one genere or to any particular band songs. I ma very much versatile when it comes to choosing of songs. Therefore i would say that i dont really have a prefference when it comes to listening to songs. It reall depends very much on my mood and how i feel at that very moment actually. have a great day ahead, and happy myloting. cheers. best regards, alvingb [alvingb]
I can never stick to just one genre either...there is something good in each of them. So you express your moods with music! That is great : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I do change my music with my moods and I find it will help if I am down or sad. And if I am happy I just get to sing along. [savypat]
I love that music does have the ability to lift our spirits, Pat : ) [PeacefulWmn9]

Yes...that's why it's hard to tell what genre of music i really like best... When I'm in a good mood I would like to listen to RnB, mellow, acoustic, rock..but when I'm in a bad mood most of the time rock music and usually the songs of Simple Plan in their debut album.. It really goes into my head and my self absorbs it.. [thebri]
This is why I am glad there are so many genres. Like you, I can never pick just one : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

It definitely depends on my mood.. When I am happy I listen to fast beats music. When I am alone, I prefer melodies. I keep enjoying each and every word of the lyrics(especially romantic songs!) when am alone. Sometimes, even the instrumental tracks will do good. When I am actually in a mood to 'dance', I play English albums with fast beats and turn my music system as loud as possible.. But in whatever mood or temper I am, I can transform my mood to normal by listening to appropriate music. Anyway, good discussion!! :-) [padu19]
You're right!!! And, thanks for 'BR'.. :-) [padu19]

Yes really I chose my music depends on what I am doing for example if I want to sleep or during the night, I listen to soft music. If I will do chores or clean my room, I listen to rock music.lolsurrender [rrdelacruz84]
That's the way to do it, yes? Music can really help us accomplish what we need to do at a given time : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi Karen! I think music has been therapeutic in my life all through. when I am down and blue I will still want Blues to be played. My mom thinks that enhances the sadness.I feel, its good for I can live the bout completely and its over after a period of time. While doing chores or washing I prefer peppy and fast numbers. That kind of expedite the things to a great extent. During festivals I love some festive music and so on. [mimpi1911]
Hi Mim : ) I, too, believe music to be therapeutic. Like you, sad music can help me fully express a sadness and get all the way through it. And then other times, I let the music reflect the happiness I am feeling or add to my energy level. Thank you for responding. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I definitely choose mine according to my mood - much as you describe. I can't imagine having music on regardless to mood, though it is hard to place why I am in the mood for particular music - much of mine is simalr in tempo and feel - so why do I choose that particular CD today? [Elspethr]
A good question, but it is like food maybe. At certain times, you are just "hungry" for a particular Cd and what it plays. If your tastes in music run with a similar tempo and beat, well that is just what most appeals to you as a person :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Yes it really depends on the mood... When i'm irritated and under huge amount pressure, i love Rock music, it helps me feel liberated. When I'm happy i like pop, RNB and Rap, its cool to dance with the music... when I'm sad, I'm not sure why I still go with Barry Manilow songs, lol... sad songs that will relate to how I feel at that moment. Music is a part of life, it would be really boring not to have it around... [pickoy]
So you add to your ability to express how you feel by playing music that will do that. : ) Great response! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I listen to a variety of music. When I walk upbeat music keeps my pace. In the car, 80's music or soundtracks. They are easier to sing along with. Classical when I'm relaxing. When I'm sad I try not to listen to sad songs. For some reason they just don't work for me. I try big band music or something to lift my spirits. Disco music when I want to dance around the house. I won't listen to rap or country. I just don't get into it. [littlebeansprout]
Your reasons for choosing a particular kind of music for particular activities really resonates with me. I do the same, and from this discussion, so do many others. What would we do without our music? I imagine we'd invent it. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I always play a different genre of music according to my mood. When I first get up, I like to listen to oldies (50s and 60s) to wake me up. I usually listen to classic rock or musicals. Every once in a while, I find myself in the mood for reggae. It's rare, but I do really like the genre. [inkstainedheart]
Like you, I don't listen to Reggae often, but I am always glad when I do. It has a unique up-beat style all its own. Thank you for responding : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Yes I do listen to music according to my mood, if I'm in a party dance mood ill listen to something fast like maybe lady gaga or bounce by timberland, and if I'm in a relaxing mood ill listen too the end theme from the film dune or the orchestra theme from the film little woman its really relaxing and beautiful, but lastly but not least if I'm in the mood for something, that rocks I listen to a flyleaf song or fuel.happy [apples99]
This is wonderful. Thumbs up for music! It is like smiles and hugs...a universally understood "language." [PeacefulWmn9]

I do choose music according to my moods and what Im doing. If im cleaning my apartment or working out I like to put on Rock, R&B or HipHop, anything with a fast beat or good lyrics that will keep me motavated to keep moving. When Im in my car just going to work or runing errands, whatever on the radio will do unless I get in the mood to listen to a particluar cd. When Im angry, sad or in one of those "pity party"days I have a particluar artist that I listen too as well. [renemouche]
Your input makes me realize even more fully what a great companion music is to almost all of us. Thank you : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I'm a lover of all sorts of music... but you are right. Sometimes I listen to a form of music depending on how I'm feeling. For the most part I am a country and r&b fan, so that's my music of choice when I'm feeling chill or if I'm in the car. But sometimes, when I'm excited or frustrated about something, I'll break out my dad's old heavy metal collection and turn the volume up to 10 with things like Metallica or Slayer. It helps me unwind because when I'm listening to heavy music, it takes out some inner aggressions (usually I'm singing along or moving to it) and it creates an outlet to some extra energy I have. Sometimes though, I will pop in some slow music or easy listening, but only if I'm doing homework or trying to sleep. It helps me concentrate better. [shellyc87]
LOL, "proven my theory"....My fingers work faster than my brain! [PeacefulWmn9]

hi peaceful! yeah i have noticed that i choose songs depending on my mood. when i feel so inlove, i listen to soft music and love songs. when there are times that i am beginning to have headache and my music is playing a loud song, i turn them down or turn it off when it starts to irritate me more... when i feel like dancing, i always choose genre's that makes me dance to the beat. happy day to you! [skbh12]
These are perfect examples of how music can reflect or changes our moods or even the way we feel physically. Happy day to you, too : ) [PeacefulWmn9]

positively by moods.. it can help us to create nice music an focus on there ussualy i search my idea and note from this blog. tutorial and they software its really help me works http://freedownloadmusics.wordpress.com [aldira]
I choose according to mood, as well. Thank you for the posting the music download site : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I tend to pick my music based off of my moods and what I'm doing. Not per genre, but more per kind of beat and the lyrics of each songs. When I'm moping I tend to pick songs that go along my line of thinking. I tend to do dark, hard rock/classic rock songs when I'm in a good mood, and the rest of the stuff just falls in between for particular times and more unique-to-me-and-my-life type moods. I'll listen to music on the rare occasion I'm playing a game, when I'm writing a book, cleaning, plaaying a game, etc. [xParanoiax]
Then music is a big part of your life, too. It seems there is something to fit our every mood and to fit what we are doing. And yes, our music preferences are very unique to us as people. Thank you for commenting. :) [PeacefulWmn9]

Well, honestly,i listen musice less time, everyday i've been exhausted after work and i have no time to listen. At my leisure,i rather watch video than listen music. [shirley183]
True, music is one of many ways to relax. I am glad that you have found videos do that for you : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Well, there's actually only one main genre, and 2 subgenres that I listen to that'll suit my mood. Actually, every song under the metal genre will suit any mood, including hard rock, and emo rock. I rarely listen to any other song of the different genre than any of the above mentioned. When I'm feeling down, there's emo, death metal, doom metal, black metal, gothcore, and some metalcore, or I might choose "happy" songs under thrash metal, and progressive metal, or "peppy" songs under power metal, and speed metal. There are some more subgenres of metal I forgot to mention. Same goes for other people who don't prefer metal music. There are different moods to RNB, pop, rock, and even hip-hop main genres. How about you, what main genre do you mostly listen to? Or are you the type who just listen to what is on the mainstream. Happy myLotting Karen! :) [tinapay01]
I agree, each genre has many tempos within itself. I love something from most genres. If I had to pick a favorite, it would be pop or RnB or maybe Indie lol. It's hard for me to pick just one! Thank you for such a detailed response...and have a happy day. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

When I'm sad or depressed, I tend to listen to sad love songs to match my mood. But there are times that I want to wipe the sadness I'm feeling always by replacing the sad love songs with happy love songs. It's really effective. I listen to music while doing house chores and while surfing the net. There are times when I choose the appropriate music to match my moods while sometimes, I don't at all. I just listen to the songs I love. Be it a love song or a happy song. Happy myLotting! Eunice happy [ayameyokomi]
Music is such a good "companion" and such good therapy. Thank you, Eunice, for sharing how you use music in your life : ) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I definitely listen to certain types of music according to what mood I am in. If I feel lovey dovey then out come the romantic tunes, sad? sad tunes, happy then happy tunes, feel like a real rebel then hard head banging music. Fortunately for me I happen to like so many different types of music that it is easy for me when I'm in a certain mood! ninja [greeneyedlady]
I do the same, and you're right. Loving many kinds of music is a definite plus in matching music to our moods. Thank you for responding. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I choose music by my mood too.But I can sing a good song that happens to be sad when I am happy. my favorite song to play on the guitar is a little sad but i love to play it .When I am tense, I go straight to metal. a little Metallica and I am not tense anymore.when I am sad, really sad, I don't listen to music at all. [sarahruthbeth22]
You play the guitar...ah, how wonderful! Like you, when I am terribly sad, I just listen to silence, as nothing but time seems to lift it. Metal is great for working out anger! Thank you for responding. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I play music depending on my moods. If I am so down, I prefer to listen to religious song (I am a Catholic) or love songs. If I am elated, I go for dance music and RnB. I am too lazy to go to work, I listen to rock music to let my mind work. I am a believer that music can affect our moods. Happy myloting. [larish]
shocked Ack! I missed this response, Larish, so please excuse my late reply! Religious and love songs are a wonderful way to cheer or encourage oneself, and yes, there is nothing quite like celebrating a good mood with dance music or rhythm and blues. Like you, I firmly believe music greatly impacts our moods! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

My mood does mandate what I decide to listen to. When I am sad or blue a good love song usually is in order. If I am happy I tend to listen to country or pop music. I find that I like a variety of different types of music and since I am such a moody person I usually have plenty of opportunities to listen to all the beautiful music that I love. Barbara [bwebb1967]
happy Hi Barbara :) Welcome to MyLot, and thank you for responding to this discussion. You treat music much as I do...for the kind I wish to hear varies greatly with my moods, and they also vary often! I keep all kinds on hand and enjoy something from any genre. Have a nice week! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Yes, definitely choose the music I play depending on my mood. Whenever I feel sad or heartbroken, I seek for love songs so I can cry my heart out and somehow relieve the pain I feel. Whenever I am happy, I play pop, rap, rnb and disco songs and I sing my heart out. That goes with rock and alternative music. And when I feel sleepy, I play Mozart and other classical songs I have on my laptop. It never rails to put me to sleep. [NurseMathilda]
Hi Mathilda. I choose music a lot like you...sometimes to reflect my mood; other times to change it from down and out to more cheerful. Love songs help when we're heartbroken. The words say what we're feeling and bring the needed crying out. And classical is indeed a good relaxer :) Thank you for sharing your preferences. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
