Do You Ever Like To Listen To 80s Music For A Change

Most of us like modern hits, today's popular songs, but soemtimes I like to revert back in time and listen to 80s music, and sometimes 70s music as well. I like quite a mix of music, but it's still good to change things up occasionally and provide an even broader variety. I downloaded some songs the other day that I loved from the 80s, including Lisa Lisa and Cult Jam - Lost in Emotion, Tears for Fears - Head over Heels, Toto - Africa, and a few others. What are some of your favorite retro songs?

Yes, I am a retro back to the 80tish girl. I enjoy listening to these kind of music. It takes me back to memory lane. [cream97]

I am always playing 80s music, it's my favourite decade when it comes to music, I listen to it on the computer (itunes), on my Ipod at the gym and in the car. Best decade, I can't stand music of today. 90% of my cd collection is from the 80s. I love groups like Duran Duran, Level 42, UB40, Eurythmics, Pet Shop Boys, Bryan Ferry, Roxy Music and the list goes on. That was when music was music, not the crap that they dish out today. Oh and solo artists like Cher, Madonna and Tina Turner [wolfie34]

I don't know which era my songs are from but I've been a classic lover/listener maybe since birth. I just love the lyrics and the melody, the way it strikes my heart and makes me sing with it. It makes me feel light, as if floating, as if inlove. I do listen to modern songs, rock, reggae, etc. but nothing beats the classics. [choybel]

Hi. I love to listen to the music of 70s and 80s. I do have a good collection of songs from 60s, 70s and 80s(in Hindi). They just calm down the nerves and help in concentration and relaxation. [coolmailraj]

i was a teen during the 80's and i love that era. madonna and cyndi lauper, spandau ballet and duran duran, tears for fears and depeche mode, the cure and gene loves jezebel. almost all the bands are really cool. songs are cool as well. i love listening to 80's music for it brings back a lot of memories. [roniroxas]
I agree and I applaud your choice of bands to contribute! [Bethany1202]

You hit it on the head, Bethany1202. The eighties is when my kids started coming and my life was placed on hold. I so don't have time for music like I did before. Whenever I hear a favorite song from the eighties I am taken back to a time that was happy and carefree. I love hearing a blast from my past. Thanks for the good memories. [roberten]

I'm not really into a lot of modern stuff. Today's music upsets me a bit. I think it's because it's harder to decipher who really wants to make a difference with lyrics as opposed to just making a buck. The 80s had meaning, bottom line. The songs, especially the ballads, were passionate in every genre. You don't get that 'depth' feeling with most of today's music. [Xdrowninghavocx]

I love listening to older music. I have been listening to it a lot lately. Stuff like The Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, Rolling Stones. I get into moods where i wanna listen to nothing but that and it'll usually stick for a while but then i will come back to listening to other stuff.. i don't listen to much of "todays music" because i don't listen to the radio so it i usually find out songs after they've been out for a long time. lol all i have is my ipod but i am always looking for new music to add on to it [sameroad]

I really enjoy 70's 80's and some early 90's music much more than much of what is being put out by todays artists, one of my favorites is MeatLoaf, I have always respected just how much he always puts into each and every live performance. [fxcash]

I'm starting to like this type of songs, like you changed my life in a moment, careless whisper, this time i'll be sweeter. This is an influence of my rocker bf, hehehe. I think you gonna ask a question. [anastacia22]

I listen to a lot of 80's music, in fact in this house it's more likely to be: do you want to listen to modern/chart music for a change? We aren't that keen on modern music, we prefer stuff from 70's, 80's and a bit from 90's even. [hezoid]

yes I like to listen to 80s music [toddsarm]

I love 80's music. I grew up in the 80's so love almost all the music from back then. [darkjedi]

Yes, I do. 80s music is one of my favorite era. There are some radio stations that have a day specifically set for playing retro music, back to the 80s, like that. I love tuning in to those days when they play 80s music. I like a lot of songs from the 80s, including Lisa Lisa and the Cult Jam of Lost In Emotion --- I remember dancing that to a Christmas party in school. I liked the 80s songs of Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, Michael Jackson, among many others. The 80s totally rocks!! :-) [MariaD]

I also am a huge fan of 80's music. Prince, the Eurythmics, The Thriller CD by Micheal Jackson. To many to list. Like you I am just a huge music fan, tonight I am listeing to Jazz.happyHave fun collecting you 80's favorites. [Deea48]

sorry the only music from the 80s that I will listen to anymore is country music, I have gotten so fed up with rock and roll and sick of my past and anything to do with my past that I went the totally opposite direction and that was country, I can't even think of music from the 80s anymore, my husband would be able to rattle off bands from the 80s because he listens to it more than I do I have one kind of music I listen to mainly country sometimes a little bit of praise and worship, other than that I like Southern Gospel (esp that with a real country fee to it), an Blue grass But country is my favorite Mooch [oneandonemakesix]

Yes you're right about that. It's really nice to hear golden hits of those time. Particularly if you want to revert back the memories of those time in harmony with such music. My favorite include Bryan Adams; Gregorians; James Taylor; Cat Steven;Nirvana; Steven Lynch; Celine Dion; Michael Jackson etc. [jaypableo]

I'm a big "Retro Benny" when it comes to 80's music! The Cars, The Hooters, The Bangles, The Jets, Boy George, George Michael, Michael Jackson (when He was still brown), Jackson Browne, Rick Springfield, Rick Ashley, Rick James, Bruce Springstein, Cindi Lauper, Pat Benetar, Joan Jet, Styx, Europe, New kids on the Block, New Edition, Musical Youth, Olivia Newton John Adam Ant, and the list goes on. I always hear today's kids wishing they were around in the 80's, you got that right, it was the best decade to be a teen. Just imagine the world of guys with Mullets and Jeri curls wearing tight leather pants and short sleeve jackets and gals with oversized manes and legwarmers and you will have the 80's. [mrghill]

I love classic 80's song particularly love songs! A song coming from Peter Cetera, Glenn Medieros,Tiffany,Sergio Mendez, and many more love songs from the 80's. [sweetbarbie22]

Today's popular song have no long life,so i don't like it.But the 70s and 80s song is different with them."when the children cry" did you heard?it's wonderful,"stairway to heaven" is good too.Two of songs are my favorite, today's song is easy to forget by people, maybe when you listen a song, you will feel this song is good, but a short time after, then you listen it again, you aren't intersted on it.I don't why there is so much different between today's song and 80's song,is this musician bad or we had heard song too much? However,i love the song of 80's! [zhaosonghan]

Prince, Wham, Thompson Twins, Spandeau Ballet, Joe Jackson, Queen, Cyndi Lauper, Berlin, Blondie I am a nut about older music, or retro music i do like some modern hits from bands like the killers, the Bravery, Muse, Foo Fighters, mostly alternative style music I like bands like Beck, velvet Underground, Digital Underground, Jackson Browne, Emimnem, Beastie Boys It is very hard to categorize my taste in music [DAEARTS]

well i don't really have a favourite genre. i listen to music of all kinds. if you were to take a look into my ipod, you'd be wondering who is the owner. i basically have music from all genre. well maybe excluding trance and heavy metal. i like different music for different moods. cheers ;] [applefreak]

I also like to listen to all sorts of music and sometimes I even go back to the 80's and 70's, as each tune brings memories of people and the places I was living in at the time. So music for me is like a time and travel journal! [sylvia13]

im not big into 80s but i do like the 50-70s [moonlitmagikchild]

I was a teenager in the 80s. Back in the 80s, it still remember songs by Madonna, Michael Learns to Rock, Cyndi Lauper, Duran Duran. They just don't make music like they did in the 80s anymore. [cathylmg]

I like to listen to 8s music. Some of my favorite retros are Guns and roses - November Rain, Bon Jovi - Bed of Roses, Bonnie Tyler - Total Eclipse of the Heart and some song from George Michael. Have a nice day. [Jody20]

I really like to listen to the 80's and 70's music it reminds me of the old classic life when everything was simple..and i adore to listen to the those songs cause everything is perfect the beat plus the lyrics and even the voice.. natural not like nowadays hits all are mixtures no original and even most of the good songs they took the 80's rhythms and re-sing it.. [maleek49]

well the only old song i like is I'll Be Over You by Toto. I don't know if the song belongs to the 80's but i really like that old song. and yes, you mention toto there.. i also like some of theCarpenters songs but i also don't know if they're from the 80's, sorry for that. Anyway, i sometimes find old songs soothing. most of them are slow. [MGjhaud]

I prefer old songs to the new ones.i love listening to the 80's and 70's music. That takes me down memory lane. [biggerb]

i will like 80s music very much.they are very meaningful and there is a lot diference from todays music.mostly after dinner listening to 80s music it gives a good relief from morning daily work and u can get easily into sleep [bharatsrinivas]

I believe that, nowadays, people are getting sucked into modern music. If their friends or even children are starting to listen to it, they might get drawn there too. [frogo_123]

Hello Bethany, hope you are doing good. I am an Indian and i love 80's music of our evergreen hindi hits. Take care friend! Blessings! Happy Mylotting!happy [ramyashreesk]

I grew up in the 80's i love my 80's music. I listen to what is now considered the oldies station on the radio. I love almost all music 80's, all movies 80's and all tv shows 80's [trowbdon]

It's always the late 60's early 70's music that brings back memories of carefree days, love and romance. I'm not too fond of modern music but as my children were teenagers in the 80's I like a lot of that decade too. I'll listen to any kind of music from Classic to Heavy Metal though I'm not fond of Jazz or Country n Western. We've a large music collection and it depends on my mood what I listen to. I like so many songs that it's hard to say what my favourites are. [Annmac]

Yeah, I like to listen to the songs of the 80's. I myself was a rock chick, I listened to Poison, Firehouse, Guns and Roses, Whitesnake, Quiet Riot...etc. all the Big Hair bands. Anytime I hear a song from that time, it brings back memories of what I was doing back then, good memories. In fact, right now here in my town, Rocklahoma is going on, starting this evening till Sunday night, all the big hair bands from the 80's are here. I think Firehouse is playing tonight, along with some others. Brett Michaels will be here tomorrow night (thurs). I'd love to go see it, but the tickets are expensive. I'll just stay home and stay out of the craziness that I'm sure will be going on there..lol. [walijo2008]

I listen to all sorts of music from 60's to now, classical music, pop, rock, EBM, country, disco and much much more. Some of the classics I love is 'dreams (will come alive) by 2 brothers on the 4th floor, Nina Hagen - Radio, The cure - Lullabye and Roger Glover - Love is all. [cyberfluf]

Yes I do. I am addicted to 80's music and I was barely alive during that decade....but it is my favorite thing to listen to. I listen to everything else, but I get a really good vibe from this type of music. And my favorite band is the Police and I absolutely am addicted to Sting. I love it when the local stations have retro hour....I blast it and dance 80's style.... [taface412]

My favorite music is from the 70s. It recalls a lot of my good times with my friends in high school and some pretty emotional times. "I Like Dreamin'" was the theme of my junior prom and "Come Sail Away" by Styx was the theme of the senior prom. I love Toto's son Africa because it reminds me of my time as an exchange student in Kenya even though it was in 1977. I think my favorite seventies song has to be "Really Love to See You Tonight" by England Dan and John Ford Coley, followed closely by "If You're Only Lonely" by J. D. Souther. [kbkbooks]

I actually listen to the older stuff way more than anything from today in fact if you put all the songs I listen to from around this decade they would fit on one disc today music is not the same as in previuos decades the 80's was one of the last decades where any of the greats really came out. So in my house it is usually anything from 1950 to 1989 that is played my kids listen to it all and in a way are very lucky they get to learn everything from Elvis to Hendrix to Bryan Adams. My favorite from the 80's I would say for frmale would be Cyndi Lauper and for bands probaly Judas Priest [MISTRESSMARY420]

I mostly listen to 70s old school rock like Thin Lizzy etc, but some bands of 1980s too, like those from the NWOBHM, Iron Maiden etc. You cant find many good songs nowadays, at least that is my opinion. [makatas]

Maybe I should not answer this, and I mean no offense by this, but I think that the 80's is the worst decade for music. That's not to say that no good music came out of the 80's, because it did, but overall, it's my absolute least favorite decade for music. Again, I mean no disrespect. So, my answer is no, I never go back and listen to 80's music. Now, 70's music, that's a whole other story - LOVE IT! I will listen to that fairly frequently. I even listen to 60's and 50's music a lot. PS - If I had to pick a retro 80's song I liked, at least back in the day, it would be the classic (LOL!) SAFETY DANCE. [reg415]

i was born in 80's i never familiar in 80's music but i really love music i love listen music? everyday my hobbies is listen music when i logged in mylot account i will always play music? right now i response to your discussion and i play my favorite music? maybe you too you love music? i think many people love music imagine life with no sound or music its boring no sound no music i love music? [ken18neth]

There was great music in the 80's But as far as my taste goes, the older the better ! The 50's had their soul, the 60's were cool but the 70's are my favorite with artists like karen carpenter, aretha franklin, billy joel, elton john, Bob dilan and etc'. when the music really touched your soul deeply and not just tikkled it. There are today some songs who do the job, But back then almost every song was a clasic. [vanila]

hey Bethany, I LOVE 80's music, although I was more of a hair band kind of girl. Groups like Guns N Roses, Skid Row, Cinderella, etc... I love it still. I will listen to just about any type of music but sometimes I just have an 80's day and need to here all that music that reminds me of Junior High and High School. LOL [prncesfrmheaven]

I listen to 50's, 60's, 70's, 80's, even a little 90's, right up to today. These days I mostly only listen to alternative and punk, and very little pop music, so for pop, it's back to the past for me. [rhettaa]

I loveeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee 80's songs... My ipd is practically file dup with them and Toto - Africa is one of my favorites. I love Boy George & the Culture Club, Duran Duran, - The Reflex, Divo - Whip It.... [risris24]

Sometimes I do like Debbie Deb or Michael Jacksons old songs.and old rap songs.it have me reminensing back in the day. [coco526]

Ohhhhhhhhhhh I'm sooooo old. 80's music, retro? I listen to everything from classical to jazz to country to swing to 1960's, 1970's, 1980's, etc. Pretty much anything but rap, I can't get into rap! But I don't think of the 80's as retro! I grew up in the 60's and 70's! [dawnald]

The best music was from the 80's!! I still listen to my favorites. I like to put on Sirius radio that is on my DishNetwork and listen to the 80's station. And I watch Vh1 "I Love the 80's" and also watch Vh1 Classic. I loved all those songs you listed and more. Most everything from the 80's! I can really get into cleaning the house if I crank up the stereo and let the house sound like it is 1986!! I have to do when the kids aren't home though because it drives them crazy that I am listening to the "oldies"! lol [schulzie]

For a change? It is the only music that I listen to regularly.I have a few favs from the 90's and 70's , but 80's music is the best for me. [sarahruthbeth22]

Hello Bethany I listen to 1980's music all the time on Satellite radio, plus I have tons of CD's from that era. I also listen to '70's music. [Transdisc]

I only listen to 80's music. It was fun! [milton456]

Yes I like to listen any different kind of music and I would love to listen the band you just listed there + I would add talk talk [Cannonball]

I love 80's music. There is nothing that 80's music cannot cure. I love like Straight Up by Paula Abdule (sp) or I wanna dance with Somebody by Whitney Houston. They always make me happier and put me in a good mood. [soulist]

According to our profiles I am almost 20 years older than you, so the music of the '80's is my music. This is what I listened to as a teen and all through my twenties. I don't particularly care for a lot of the music of today, I guess my age is showing. There are some songs that I like but I find most groups and solo artists all kind of sound the same to me. I also like listening to the music of the 1950's and 60's even though it was a little before my time. My favourite artists now are Celine Dion (Canadian, just like me) and Alan Jackson. I also like some old stuff from the 70's that some people might find kind of geeky like The Carpenters. I don't care for rap music, heavy metal, or bubblegum music like Hannah Montana and High School Musical though. [jedopi]

Yes, I do :) I listen to a lot of 90's music as well. [cherishxbunny]
