Do You Know What 45 Rpm Records Are Do You Have Any Hidden Away

Ok, I'm showing my age but do you know what 45 rpm records are? I could actually say do you know what records are and that would probably get a lot of "no's" here wouldn't it? They were round discs made of vinyl that we listened to music on! lol.... If you really don't know what I'm talking about just check out the old wiki and it explains them from the beginning of time!http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vinyl%5Frecord I came across a small box in my basement with about a dozen very old 45's in it. Of course they are scratched and not worth anything but the memories they bring back but there are collectors who have hundreds of them in pristine condition and I find that amazing!Do you have any old 45's hanging around?

I have a couple hundred from the '60s (I was a disk jockey and got them free). Unfortunately, I don't have a turntable. [Vladilyich]
Since you were a dj I'll bet you have an awesome collection! [ctrymuziklvr]

Hello. This record I hawe alot of I was working as DJ in the beging of 1980 so I think I hawe around 2000 of them but I never play them in this days only hawe them in boxes. [matte5]
Yes and thats why I keep them and mybee my kids whant them. [matte5]

I believe they are the small records.I have some big ones from my childhood, like mickey mouse x-mas and so forth.I come across alot at yard sales that people have for sale and actually bought some for a souvenier. Its rare to find some that you mentioned.I even looked for a record player, but i never found one yet. [peanutjar]
I think the bigger ones are called 78's and 33's. I remember the old mickey mouse from my childhood also. [ctrymuziklvr]

LOL omg of course I know what 45's are...just like I knwo what reel to reels are and 8tracks LOL...I actually miss vinyl really....I mean CDs are better quality and far more portable but I do miss records..I still ahve a stack at my moms actually...My brother has ALL of his from back in the day I beleive.... [Ravenladyj]
omg! yes....reel to reel! I remember buying my ex a Jimi Hendrix reel to reel for his birthday one year. I bet he still has it! [ctrymuziklvr]

I not only know that 45 records are I have played 78"s and 33 1/3 as well. All these records were as popular as Cd's and mp3's I pods and 8 tracks were before that there was a machine that played round tube like records. and before that there was sheet music, that was purchased and you could go into a music store and the staff would play the music on the piano and show you how it was to sound. When I went to school every child was taught to read music from a sheet of music. great discussion [RobinJ]
You're going a bit back before my time even and that's pretty hard to do! lol.... [ctrymuziklvr]

I had plenty, ctry, until my last move. I wanted to start over fresh, so I got rid of a lot of things that I now regret. I even got rid of my stereo with the turntable. I bent over laughing at the way you started your discussion. It brought to mind just how fast things are changing.(: [worldwise1]
I've done that too worldwise...get rid of things then long after regret, but as the saying sometimes go...one has to get rid of the old to prepare for or invite the new in one's life [pyewacket]

Yes I have them and all the albums I ever bought or got for gifts. The first one I ever recieved was from my brother....Ricky Nelson sings for you! I still have it! [jillhill]
And someday when I am gone and the kids find the records they'll wonder.....who the heck is that! I also have alot of Gene Pitney......man I love his stuff. Whenever I used to break up with someone in High School I would put on Gene and bawl my eyes out. Helped me get over it faster! LOL [jillhill]

If you're showing your age, so am I as I do remember 45 rpms and 33s and my mom had a collection of 78s!! Those were the breakable kind. I used to have so many records in general, but got rid of them when my old turn table record player died--and at the time record players just weren't available otherwise would have gotten a new one...did you know record players are making a come back though...if I had only known I wouldn't have thrown my records out sniff, sniff--But now of course everything is on CDs [pyewacket]

Yes I do know what 45rpm records are, we use to have them when I was a kid. My brother has many before and I think he still has them stash away in his garage but all wornout and scratched. I think I saw the old turntable player too there. :-) I know some of mu friends do collect them, their a collectors item now. [eprado]

I have no collection of the 45 rpm records and 78 but i have seen some of these in my early childhood. My aunt has a player (wood cased phono stereo)that she often played her collections specially during the celebration of the Holy Week. [lyndee22]

I don't have any 45's and I had forgotten about them until you mentioned them. Brings back good memories. [naty1941]

I know exactly what 45 RPM records are...I grew up playing them!! Yup, I am showing my age too! I can't believe that over the years I have gotten rid of all of my 45 RPM records. I have seen a website before where it explained how to put them in the oven on top of a bowl and put the oven on warm. The record melts and then you put it in the fridge and later when you pop it off you have a neat bowl made out of a record! [crazynurse]

I'm going to show my age a little here too. I do know what records are and remember playing them when I was growing up but I have no idea what you're talking about when you say there were 45's, 78's and 33's! I mean I've people use those numbers before but I never knew what they meant. I also remember 8-tracks because my mom had one in her car. She had a hard time reaching it though so she taught me how to use it...back when kids rode in the front seat without a car seat unless they were babies. My parents still have their big console stereo with the turntable 8-track and AM radio. Everything still works in it too and there is a small stash of vinyl and 8-tracks in it. My sister decided to take their more "modern" stereo that had a turntable, dual cassette and AM/FM along with all the cassettes and records that were in it. [foxyfire33]

I no longer have any 45s but I do have a ton of vinyl and no turntable..I would love to put them into an mp3 format to put on my ipod...so many of the oldies are not available on cd. [Debs_place]

We have some. Don't you have to put a small center piece into the record so you can play it on the record players today? [lotterylover]

yes i have old 45s and bigger records which are 33 size they are still in good condition i don't listen to them i don't have a record player anymore but the memories are still there i suppose i could get a record player some places sell them and play them again or record them on a cassette and sell them perhaps that is another idea [clocks123]

i know those. They were the ones played when we were young. There were LP's to containing an album of songs by one's fave singer(s). A 45 rpm only contains 2 songs back to back. After the records came the cassette tape, then the CD, then....Music is becoming more and more available to people wherever they are. [funny52f]

I think it's pretty pathetic when people don't know 45's no matter how old they are. 89, 67, 30, 12... it's called a nostalgic part of history. I have a record player that still has an 8-track player in it. I love records and such. I have some myself. Most of them were my great grandmothers that her and my great grandmother had collected over the years. But they're fantastic. [raychill]

LOL, I have some let's see, I have Purple Rain on 45's and Wham as well just to name a few. Now you and I both are showing our age. :o) [sunshinecup]

I still have my 45's. In fact, I had them shipped over when I moved to Scotland. Mine are not scratched at all as I took very good care of them. I never loaned out my 45's or my record albums. I have quite a collection. [spiritwolf52]

Yes, I still have my 45's and I still have my albums too (33 1/3). I wish my turntable worked. I haven't played them in a long while. So I guess we are all showing are age. So good to know I am not the only one that saved these. I still have them in the carrying case I bought years ago. They bring back memories when I just look at the titles. What a great time it would be if I could play them! [msmanners]

At least once a week after school, a few of us kids would walk into town to the local record store and I myself would by a "single" or a 45. so i have quite a collection of them and yes, still have them. A few friends have also moved in the past few years and have given me their 45 collections, so I feel blessed to have a wide range of musical tastes in the collection on the whole. [pendragon]

i have a lot those 45's and a turn table. the records that i really liked i had it framed and now they're hanging on the walls of our farmhouse. everytime we're there the only music you can hear is that of jimi hendrix, my husbands favorite. the good old days. [tuffy999]

I know what they are. My dad used to have a ton of them. My hubby found some old ones and we put them on and listened to them one night. He still has a record player on an old tape deck thing he has. [sweetgirl_k1]

I have a couple of huge boxes of them tucked away in my ex mother in laws storage barn. I forget they are there but my girls have seen them when they go there to visit. Also have some old 78's from my dads collection. Some are in mint condition but some of the ones that I played alot i'm sure are not. [sid556]

I now what 45 records are and I'm only 27. HMV still sells 7" and 12" singles - not just dance records but some indie/alt (and other) bands still release their singles and albums on vinyl. The NME recently gave a away a free 7" by the white stripes and they're about to do the same for Babyshambles [jend80]

I have a few thousand in my basement they are from the 70's and 60's and are rock and roll i have listened to thjem but not much.. [mavisbike]

I use to buy them all the time in the 1980's when I wanted to buy just a song I would get a 45 record. Great memories I still think records are cool. I still have a few packed some where also. [Shaun72]

Lol, Ode to the good old days's. I remember those days! The 45's, ahhh yes. I remember it like it was last week. We saved up money to buy the newest record from our favorite groups. Back then music was a background to everything in our lives. I don't have any old 45's anymore. If I had known what the day would bring, I would of kept some for memories sake. [irishmist]

I grew up with 45's and with 33's also. No, I don't have any.. none survived my fire when my house burned. I wish I still had my hifi. My mom used to have a victrola to play the 33's on.. now that is old. [OreoCookie3]

Oh I sure do! We had quite a few of them growing up but unfortunately my brother gave them all away when we moved out of home. [maddysmommy]
