a lot of singers are doing acting on top or instead of singing now and what do you think about it? is it a good idea? not many seem good at it lol rasp
do you have any that you think are doing well in both and should continue? do you think they should just choose one and stick to it? do support your favorite ones in both ways even though they may not be good at it?
im trying to think of any that i think crossed over and did great but i cant think of anyone.. maybe a few that had a small part in 1 movie and did good but any that make it big and well...

I guess it's okay if they act and there good at it. But if there not good at it and are doing it just for the fame and money, then I think that's wrong. [pweety_princess]
i know im sick of the perfumes and the clothes etc etc out there by actors/singers [moonlitmagikchild]
For the most part it seems a natural progression as most of them are somewhat creative and artistic. Also most are trained at least on a minimal level to do both. Obviously your talents may be more favorable in one area. And lastly I think that like everyone else they are attempting to create more than one stream of income. [relundad]
LOL Haven't you noticed that just about anything will sell in America [relundad]
I dont see any difference than other people who MULTI SKILL them selves for employment. Its a survival mode to make sure you earn to put bread and butter on the table. This has been going on for a long time and is not new in the entertainment industry, Singers, dancers, director, producers, actors, and it goes on. I dont mind it, but some seem to struggle with the multi tasks. HICCUP/ [hiccup]
i think some times they spread too thin though and ruin all of their chances by not focusing equally or enough on certain ones.. but of course that could be with anything and anyone in life [moonlitmagikchild]
Sad to say, in my country, all actors/actresses are asked to sing, dance, host, and do a horde of other things even when the talent is not there. One thing is for sure, they look attractive. It is sad because in order to get into showbusiness, it is imperative that there is a factor in you that is attractive to the masses (general public). It is definitely a money-making business for talent managers and movie/tv producers. It is also very funny because a lot of the talented ones are not being recognized in my country but are recognized in other countries for their talent. Sad, indeed! [ag_abscruzmd]
that sucks that they HAVE to do all of those things no matter what sad i think it would put some people off from trying if they know that they were horrible in some areas even though they are awesome in others [moonlitmagikchild]
It's seems okay for an artist to crossover to another form of art after gaining success in singing. It'll make them more versatile. But that is not a good idea for all the singers, some of them look like an idiot when acting. It's better for them to only sings. [echosoundz]
i know its horrible with some!! i usually dont go to see anything if its starring a singer unless i love that person or know that they are good at acting.. most of the time its just a waste of money since they figure people will show up for the name and not care about the plot [moonlitmagikchild]
singers have been going into acting or trying to act since (at least) Elvis. Some are good at it and some are, um, interesting... [jend80]
haha interesting?? trying to be nice?? rasp [moonlitmagikchild]
It's better than Comedians crossing over into singing... Look at Eddie Murphy. "My girl wants to party all the time, paaarttyyy all the timeeee" w00t [redkathy]
haha true!! makes you wonder who gave these people the ideas [moonlitmagikchild]
IF they are good actors then I dont mind at all. Ice T and Ice Cube are alright actors, but others suck as* acting. They should just stick to singing. [darkjedi]
yeah those i can say did good at crossing over.. whats really bad is when everything they do is awful yet they keep trying something new.. its like give up already [moonlitmagikchild]
The only one that i have seen cross over that i think does a half way decent acting wise is Jennifer Lopez, oddly enough i don't care for her music. I do know some country artists that i have tried acting and all i can think is "stick to music man stick to music." If you are a signer stick to signing, if you are an actor stick to acting. [pheonixstar1982]
ugh the actors that go singing are usually bad.. joey lawrence which i dont like on either.. david hasslehof.. and the list goes on and on lol [moonlitmagikchild]
I do wish that they would all stay to their chosen profession. But I think that singers do better at acting than a lot of singers that try to do the singing thing. Remember Don Johnson and Eddie Murphy and their grand attempts into pop music. Not good. [Ruthep]
yeah maybe they get bored or something or get a huge ego thinking if they are good at one they will be great at all but rarely its true lol.. [moonlitmagikchild]
i dont like it if a singer become an actress or actor. because, sometimes they only want to manipulate their fans to see the movie. and i think, in almost cases, all film that starred by singer is not a box office movie [iman3004]
yeah true i dont think that many of the movies they do really do great compared to if it had been anyone else.. [moonlitmagikchild]
I do not understand why do singers do this. I mean they are really good in singing but suddenly they jump into acting. Why do they do so? I have hardly seen any singer who has done well as an actor. Even sone of the directors jump into acting. The reason is still unknown. [dropofrain]
ugh usually the directors that go into acting are bad sad [moonlitmagikchild]
It does not mean that if I admire a singer I will like his acting too. They are two separate things two different artistic fields. One can be a good singer but a bad actor. There is no harm in trying! © ronaldinu 2008 [ronaldinu]
i sometimes wonder if it would be worth risking to try since when they do bad some times they never live it down lol [moonlitmagikchild]
It is okay for me just as it was not forced, what I mean is the singer can really act. I think if you are a good singer and you internalize the meaning of the songs you are singing it can also be called acting right. I think Jennifer Lopez is fine. Many Moore just found some roles that fits her like in A Walk To Remember where she portrays a nerdy type of girl. I think Britney Spears should not consider acting again. I do not know if lindsay lohan and Hilary Duff were singers first before being an actress but I think they are ok, well really depends on the roles. It is more fun watching actors and actresses sing in movies like in Music and Lyrics when Drew Barrymore and Hugh Grant sang. I think Adam Sandler is a good singer. Well some people were always present when talents were distributed in the world. :) [Leixa003]
yeah lindsay put out a cd after freaky friday i think.. and yeah mandy moore i think has done good.. i dont really like her but i have liked her movies.. brit did good enough for cross roads but dont think there is ANYTHING in the future for her lol.. yeah i like the movies like music and lyrics to where if they do have talent its great but if not its part of the movie to where no one cares haha [moonlitmagikchild]
Well ,how to say ,um ,you know ,it is a main current now .Personally speaking ,I think there are exactly some singers who are very gifted in acting ,while the majority are really lack of the ability .although they are liked ,they only surrive by their prime reputation ,and their fans of their songs will ,of course ,like their movies .This is a circle ! [Emilyzhu]
yeah its rare to find the one that does well.. [moonlitmagikchild]
It depends upon the nature of music and the song. Since majority of the songs these days have a music which can prompt you to acting many of the singers are also do the same way. Now if you are singing at a stage and the public is dancing perhaps your acting will be suggestive and the audience is prompted to dance more and reciprocate the singer. But there may be some songs which do not warrant acting and there it is difficult to accept such an action. But I tend to agree that the majority these days would prefer to cross over to acting. [srsddn]
maybe they should try out broadway or musicals before going into straight acting only movies [moonlitmagikchild]
That is too normal.Maybe they want make more money. If they do good at it,I agree with it.It can promote the development of the acting and the singing.By contrary,I oppose it.If you aren't able to do it,you had better stick to sing. [lchawqword]
yeah hopefully they would find out quickly if they are good or bad at it so they wont make fools of themselves lol [moonlitmagikchild]
I think that they should do whatever they're good at. If they're good at acting, then there's no reason for them not to have a go at it, but if they're just having a go for the sake, when they don't really have a talent, then I don't think that should happen. [GemmaR]
it makes you wonder when they are bad at it if they know since a lot of stars have people around them that will tell them whatever they wanna hear [moonlitmagikchild]
I think its an inapporiate. I can say is that actually singers like to do some awesome performance and to convince its audience. Thats gonna be a star performer... [miketagz]
there are very few star performers now a days [moonlitmagikchild]
Its called taking advantage of the opportunities life gives you. These singers make it because of their talent and hard work and that is why they get such extra opportunities. If they try their hand at acting too then there is nothing wrong. [worthy]
i think some dont think they have to try hard since they are already a star.. but the ones that work hard usually do ok [moonlitmagikchild]
the only thing worse than that is actors crossing over into singing [zukepr]
very very true haha [moonlitmagikchild]
some are pretty good like Mark Walberg, Queen Latifa and the others. so i don't mind all that its the ones that are BAD that i don't like like Britney Spears and Kelly Clarkson...Justin Timberlake is iffy and the movie with Lance Bass was pretty bad. I'm not insulting their singing talents, but Justin and Britney are more 'mickey mouse' actors still and haven't evolved much past that. but thats also my opinion. [emarie]
yeah brit was ok at best in crossroads but i think it was because it was mickey mousish but if she were to come back and do it today it would be laughable.. and i doubt she could pull off anything else.. i think her one movie was a one shot thing that just didnt totally bomb haha.. i havent watched jt because i had a feeling it would be a total disapointment.. i like a few of his songs but he annoys me in every other way [moonlitmagikchild]
It´s really rare to succeed in both singing and acting... I´m not saying it can´t be done but the truth is most singers can´t act and most actors can´t sing. [pumpuli]
yeah its hard for you to be able to do both.. and when they can do both its usually hard for them to do either REALLY well so ugh!! [moonlitmagikchild]
I would rather see a singer become an actor than the other way around! especially in the UK as we once had a major influx of soap actors trying their hand at pop singingsurrender Beyonce is a good actress, she has done very well! [3cardmonte]
true i remember looking through pawn shops and seeing all the actors cds that were there.. obviously for a GOOD reason haha [moonlitmagikchild]
First this trend was brought up by the actors. So singers had also no choice left other than crossover. So long the change works because people always want to see their old stars doing new things. [manicheprt]
yeah i guess the curiosity of their fans will help start them as long as they have the talent to follow it up [moonlitmagikchild]
I think talent is there so if they are a good singer....well it might be natural. If you are interested in other types of artsy things....you might be able to learn it. But you really have to practice. The only one I can think of that did very well was Dolly Pardon....she is both a good singer and actress...but she chose parts that fit her personality! [jillhill]
yeah a lot of people dont get the right parts to where they could pull them off [moonlitmagikchild]
As long as the talent is there in both singing and in acting, I don't mind at all! I find that it is somewhat uncommon to have a person who is good in both areas, but there are a few... Andy Lau for example, I think is a good actor/singer (although I've only seen a few of his movies, and only heard a few of his songs). I think if one of my favourite singers turned to acting, I would probably watch the movie, just to see. If they weren't good at all, I'd probably just stop watching their movies, or maybe wait until it gets played on television rasp. [cellophane]
yeah it does seem rare.. and i usually wait till it hits tv since i have seen so many bad movies that starred singers haha [moonlitmagikchild]
Some actors have blown me away with what a great singing voice they have. For example, I enjoyed Katie Holmes singing "I want you to want me" on Dawson's Creek but she is amazing in a preview of her singing a sexy style on Eli Stone. Some performers may start out doing a bit of both but most seem to have to choose one and stick to it. I suppose it would be very difficult to take your singing on tour while performing in a regular TV show. Kylie Minogue is one of many actors I can think of that had to make a choice and she is certainly much more successful as a singer than an actor. Some are one hit wonders, leaving their acting careers to try to make it in the music industry and then they seem to just drop off the radar. [Piscesmoon]
i saw that preview too and it was surprising since it didnt even seem like her.. i dont think i saw that episode of dawsons creek though.. i stopped watching it after her and dawson got together lol [moonlitmagikchild]
Back in the 40's, 50's & 60's there were a lot of musicals where entertainers did anything and everything. Many of them excelled as singers, dancers and actors and ceased to be known for one genre of entertainment alone. Bing Crosby, Fred Estaire, Ginger Rodgers, Gene Kelly, just to name a very few. All time best crossover would have to be Barbra Streisand. She's a great singer, actress, comedienne, director and writer. Very talented lady. By far one of the worst crossovers in history was Elvis Presley... great singer but ugh what a terrible actor, even worse dancer and he never got any better over time. But he was so idolized nobody cared as long as he sang something. Don't even get me started on the trend of rappers turned actors.. OMG pulleeez. The only ones I will even give credit to is Ice T and Queen Latifah. Today, the talent pool is a bit thin for crossovers. About the only multitalented entertainers I can think of in the last 20 yrs or so is John Travolta, all around great entertainer. I hesitantly will say Madonna, she had 1 semi-good movie Evita, but she's an ok singer, an excellent dancer, ultimate self promoter. Sadly most of the really multitalented performers stick to the theater stage. Musicals are still very popular with live theater. The one who surprised me most in the theater was Sebastian Bach. Turned out to be a decent stage actor as well as awesome singer. I'm sure I've left out quite a few but those are the only ones who popped into my head on the spur of the moment. Unfortunately with most of my choices I've shown my age. w00t [craftcatcher]
ugh elvis was awful and your right no one cared haha [moonlitmagikchild]
depending on their acting,, you know disny chanels my daughter likes to watch that and so do I cause their all talented little actors as well as singers... I also LIke will smith hes a good actor and i dont mind his singing,, but one singer that i really like Is jeniffer lopez and I DO like her movies.. but then there are some singers that just can act worth s**t..lol and i aint giving any names...lol [sweety23ash]
a lot of people on here have listed jeniffer lopez as a fav so she's doing good as far as a mylot fav [moonlitmagikchild]
i do not like it.i think that those people can influence on me.i dislike them. [wangkai]
Well, with the proliferation of MTVs, a lot of singers are already part time actors. Cos they have to be in their own videos of their music. So it is not surprising if they ever go into acting to suppliment their singing career. Well, for one, I know Will Smith is doing well both in acting and in singing. Jeniffer Lopez also did great in both arena. How about Tina Turner? She did quite ok in a few movies as well. Madonna? She did a few movies in her time. Not too bad the acting. And she is still triving in her music career. Whitney Houston also did great in both acting and singing. I am sure there are more, but off hand, I can only name these few. [ahgong]
those are all good.. i cant think of anyone else though lol [moonlitmagikchild]
