I don't own any rap albums myself, but I like to listen to it at times. I wondered why, since so much of it seems so violent or anti-woman. But then, the other day as I was waiting for a bus, a car stopped for a red light and I was listening to his booming stereo playing rap music and I finally figured out what it is that I like. It is the fact that rappers know how to rhyme! Something I wish more rock musicians knew how to do.

Sometimes I do and sometimes I don't lol. There are actually a few really good rappers out there that rap about things that have meaning and not just drugs and violence. I usually like a rap song that has good lyrics. If they are meaningful then I'll listen to it. There are some that are just catchy that I like because of the beats. The beat is usually good, although it is often hard to tell since people play it so loud that they are on the verge of blowing out their poor speakers lol Usually the lyrics are lost on me as so many rappers do not pronounce words very succinctly. I do not generally listen to rap music, but there are some songs that I do like. Sometimes I will be flipping trough the stations in the radio and find one that I like the sound of and stay on it. I do not like the ones that are full of foul words and are degrading to women though. [lilybug]

You know, rap music is only good when it's good rap music ... I'm 19 I used to listen to a lot of rap music, first song I heard was 2pac song I though it is what I like ... I though also that is the only music what is good(it's not true at all) I though I am cool when I listen to rap music I still have tones of rap albums I though also only old school rap is the best and nothing else like sir mix a lot, public enemy, grandmaster flash etc. Really old school music, specific rhyme technique, simple beats but it was when I was hm 12-16, now I can say I hate it, because it sounds not fun any more ... of course as I said only good rap is good rap, so I can tell you when I heard for the first time onyx- slam or kriss kross - jump or house of pain - jump around or krs one - sound of the police or 2 live crew - f*ck martinez or das efx - east coast hustlers, it was good then it is good now and it will be good anytime I hear it, such songs are classics but for example songs like sugar gang hill - rappers delights(it was acctualy first rap song in media)I don't like it anymore but it is very classic song. I liked Public Enemy when I first heard them, they had some strange song, something about Channel zero. I thought that was pretty funny. And, of course, Fresh Prince was hilarious too. All that gangster stuff is silly. And, yes, too many rappers now days only want the money, doesn't seem like they care much what they put out as long as it makes them money. Rock is still okay, but I find as I get older it just doesn't have that much to offer me anymore. Maybe it's all the junk my teenaged daughter listens to on the radio. Sometimes yes and sometimes no. There are a few great songs out there. But alot of them are crappy too, just like rock and pop songs too though. I like all sorts of music though. Hey fwidman, I love rap music! I always have! I love the rhymes and the rhythm and the feelings that go into it. I used to love putting on some nasty azz rap when I got home from work and sat down with my glass of wine to chillax and get toasted and listen to the raunchiest rap with the loudest curses and the most gunfire that I could find to annoy the neighbors with. I don't like most rap music mainly because of what it stands for and it has nothing at all to do with the rhyming or the music itself. There are some songs that I've heard that I actually really like quite alot. I tend to love rock music. I think any music that tries too hard to rhyme the words may well lose the meaning of what they are trying to say. My friends love to listen to rap music but it isn't the only genre they listen too. I have nothing against rap as well though I don't like listening to those that I can't anymore understand and I don't like some cussin' as well. There are raps anyway with good lyrics. I like them. Yes that's very true. I'm not a fan of rap music because many songs are senseless, very vulgar, disrespectful to women. But don't get me wrong because I'm not an anti-rap person. But I just don't appreciate how the "music" itself had turned into an image. It's no secret that the rap song is associated with gangster, violence, drugs, money, alcohol, fame, sex, bling. And if anyone noticed it that almost all of the Music videos of rap songs have these on their concepts. Have you noticed that majority of the rap videos have sexy women (not just 2 or 3, lots of them) bouncing around wearing über sexy clothes? And almost all rappers are flaunting their blings, money, expensive stuffs. These are recurring concepts in rap videos that I can't understand why they keep on doing it. Is rap supposed to be this way? I guess not and I hope it will evolve into something more responsible branch of music. But I don't want to generalize the artists and their songs because some use their talents and connection to send ideas, to give awareness politically, environmentally, socially. Back in high school we had this gang called that Skully Klann. We're a group of hiphop loving high school kids. Some of us really can flow to the like of Naughty By Nature and Rakim. My personal favorite rap albums are Dr. Dre's The Chronic and Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle. I'm pretty sure these albums will forever remain rap classics. [modstar]

Hi im new on this website ;) When i was kid in elementary school, i was listening only to rap and hip-hop. After that i almost completly stoped but i returnet to my 'rap love' about year ago. I love that kind of music mostly because lyrics can be so great and meaningfull....usualy they are not if u dont pay attention like most people. My fave. artist in this genre are Kanye West (allmost all his songs give me chills, last album 'Gratuation' is one of my all time favorite), Lupe Fiasco (*LISTEN to this kid, rap in its finestt...), Eminem..... I love rap and I listen to it all the time and I have lots of cds with different rap artists on them. They tell a story in a differnt way and I like the way they sing it whent hey are rapping a song. The only time I tried to sing a rap song was years and years ago, when I was writing one for a friend of mine that I worked with. He enjoyed the song, and it was fun. I actually enjoy rap music, but it depends on the artist. I don't listen to a lot of the crap they play on the radio (except Lil Wayne) because a lot of times, the rhymes are weak and don't catch my attention. I have grown up loving hip hop music my whole life!! I do love rap but the problem nowadays is so much of the music has been watered down by commercialism and the once knowledgeable more articulate artists were replaced by these babbling buffoons who don't have any idea about anything except how big their car Rims or diamonds are. A lack of educational values also is prevalent here. I'm not saying I don't like some of what I here but I am from an era when rap music was our form of social commentary. It had a voice (still does) and we had those artists that were all about money and partying, but we also had those who were teaching the youth, teaching our history and making it perfectly clear our women were not to be disrespected!!! Most of this attitude is missing form the music nowadays. Yes there were those who talked violently and gangster rap but when this form of music emerged you had REAL gangsters entering into the rap game. Now we have liars who brag about the drugs they sold like that's a cool thing to do. Yet they don't go to jail which means somebody is lying or snitching. Overall I will never lose my love for rap music as I am an artist/producer myself. I just want the real rap to reemerge. I dont neccessarily love or hate certain genres. I live certain artists, and certain songs. It's annoying when people discriminate and stereotype music... I don't listen to rap a lot, but I don't mind it at all, the beats are usually always great to dance to, and the hooks always get stuck in my head. One thing I really like about rap is that you don't HAVE to be a great singer to be able to write and perform and express yourself through words and rhythm. You can rap about just about anything, or nothing at all and people will still dance to it. I guess that is both bad and good, because people HEAR the music, but never LISTEN to the words anymore.
