Do You Listen To Music That Is Sang In A Foreign Language

Well i do. I don't understand korean nor japanese. But i love listening to them. Those ballads can be real soothing. And at times, there are songs that have the same melody as some mandarin song just that the words are in different languages. And it's real cool to listen to them. What about you? Do you listen to songs sung in a foreign language? Why do you listen to them?

responses and comments:

The melody and beat of the song makes me to listen even it is not a language that i can understand. Russian and Swedish are some of it. I understand few and still keep on listening in it. [glesil_00]
i think the same as you. i believe the melody and beat is the main "attraction". [regal_aeros]

yeah !i love to listen to japanese music too! [jerelmeow]
some of their ballads are good. but they have a great lot of heavy metal.. those i'm trying to appreciate.. haha "TRYING" [regal_aeros]

Yes i do, i have many favorite songs of other foreign language. I dont understand the lyrics but the melody was really nice. My favorites were from Korean songs some are featured in korean novela where it was aired here in the Philippines. I even sing along with the song even if i dont get the right lyics hahah. Another favorite of mine were french songs, same with korean songs i dont understand the lyrics but still the song was good to my ear. I know french song because my hubby was working in european country which they speak french. [kmaram]
yup.. love some of the korean songs. They are great composers in my point of view. french is such a lovely language too. romance in the air. [regal_aeros]

hi regal. if the music is good, i dont mind listening to any songs. it should be catchy and the singer should have lots of modulations in her/his voice. so that i can learn some techniques of singing. [andresimp]
i must say some koreans are very good in their techniques. They go through real rigorous trainings. [regal_aeros]

Hi friend! I often listen English, Hindi and Urdu songs but my mother language is Bengali. I feel monotonous, if I listen Bengali songs all the times. [aminul8427]
oh yea..i know what you mean.. [regal_aeros]

Me too, i used to listen in other foreign language, like japanese, korean..Etc. Even though i dont understand the words, still i appreciated it because of the melody of the song... [myx_03]
yeap... agreed.. Happy mylotting.. [regal_aeros]

I think my current playlist is 3/4 foreign language music. A brief list of the languages would be: Japanese, Chinese (Mandarin and Cantonese), several types of Gaelic, Cymraeg, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, German, Russian, French, Finnish, etc. I don't understand all of the languages, but the music is so beautiful. I can understand Japanese, a little Mandarin Chinese, German, and French, so that helps. I just think it's fun hearing music in languages aside from English, from cultures outside of my own. [baldypriest]

I listen to japanese and chinese music too. Also some korean from timne to time. The reason are..well..I am listeneing to Japanese music already for ages because I used to grow with Animes even when I didn't know yet that they are animes. And my brother always bought anime vhs with german subs. so I naturally started listening to them. I really like the japanese language anyway and the japanese culture and blahblah. I think you too..when I see your icon..haha. [docipain]

I like some songs in french, like -M-, and Russian. German is my most proficient second language, so I like some German songs. I think that Portuguese is the best language for singing. Danish hip-hop is the funniest stuff on earth. [NefariousFox]
It's funny you'd say that. I would actually say the Danish Hip-Hop is more like pure lemon juice. [NefariousFox]

Oh yes ! I like listening to Chinese, Japanese, Indian, German, Russian, Greek songs too. They are very beautiful ! In fact, I buy CD's when I travel to foreign countries. [greenline]

Wow, here comes the topic I like. Japanese song...japanese bands. These are really hardcore songs I love listening in. Its, like, once you start listening to them, you'll definitely be hooked in no time. Maybe some of you knows the anime, DeathNote. Remember the song at the beginning of it? I'm so hooked up with it. I even sing the words they're singing even though I don't understand what it means. hehe... :) Really enticing and I enjoy it. Though, my brother keeps on asking me, "are you weird? why do you keep on singing that song you don't even know what it means?". And every time he gets irritated with my singing, he would ussually shout, "cut it off! my ears gonna explode!". hehe... :) But that doesn't stop me from listening and singing Japanese Rock songs. JAPROCK!!! Who's your favorite JAPROCK? [cruelsai]

well i am Filipino so english song is already a foreign language to me and yes i enjoy listening to it...happylol but i have heard some indian songs and i think that's also nice, even if i don't understand what they are saying i do appreciate it and also some theme songs from korean & japanese telenovela are also nice. [ckyera]

I like listening to foreign language music, English, Korean, Indian...most of them i don't understand totally, i just like the melody and really enjoy it. [kanecn]

Yes! I like to listen to english and spanish songs! But I must say i really appreciate spanish music because of its boldness and sensuality. Happy MyLotting! [CMTS_87]

I only listen to songs sang in a foreign language, i just somehow don't like songs sang in my own language as much as the ones sang in foreign languages. Usually english songs, but sometimes japanese and some other languages, also, not only the songs words matter, but the singing style and the beat/music on the background, sometimes i like to listen so music where there is no lyrics at all, it's the beat and sound that makes it good for my ears. :) [lolislol]

yes. i listen to korean music. i love the Wondergirl's SO HOT and NOBODY, SNSD's Gee and Kissing You, 2ne1's FIRE. I love listening to my fave korean series soundtracks too. [sweetseoul]

I do listen to songs in languages i don't understand. I listen to Japanese. I love listening to those songs. I find them really soothing. I believe that the beauty of music is not in the words but in the feelings invoked by it. [siddharthjeevan]

Hi, regal. I like listening to all kinds of music no matter it is sung in English, Japanese French, etc.. Besides my mother tongue, I like English and Japanese the most because I've been studying them all the time. The lyrics of some English songs are great, such as songs sung by Sarah Connor or Celion Dion. When listening to their songs, I try to learn the lyrics by heart and sometimes even translate them into my native language for fun. [chenxiaoyue_713]

I listen to a lot of French and Spanish music. I find that the songs are often a lot more relaxing than English ones and the lyrics always sound more beautiful. I've never listened to Korean or Japanese music before but would love to give it a try! I think that as long as you enjoy the music you're listening to, it doesn't really matter what language it's in! [polly423]

I have online friends from several countries, so I often discover music in other languages when they discuss or play the songs on the Web. The public radio station where I work also has a library of international artists, so I get to hear rock, pop, jazz, Latin and other types of music in many languages. One song I recently heard was "Chacarron Macarron" by Panamanian artist El Chombo. He didn't have the song completely written when he recorded a first draft, so he just mumbled a bunch of gibberish to fill in the gaps. That initial recording was released because several people liked the way the gibberish sounded. It sounds silly, but it's very catchy. [jtr115]

yeah me too i don't understand korean or japanese songs but i love listening to them at times. I guess the songs they make have that wonderful beat in it that is why even if i do not understand what they are saying they make me feel relaxed. I like the way they use their instruments and their music [enciel]

Yes! I do listen to songs sung in a foreign language. I listen to opera songs and songs by Andrea Bocelli. I honestly can't understand a single word they are saying. However, when I listen I tend to imagine a beautiful place to relax. It makes my mind and body relax. But in Andrea Bocelli's case, it's his voice that makes me want to listen. His voice just blows my mind away. [Dansoy]

Actually I do listen to some. I love listening to song in madarin, japanese, and spanish. I love hearing them, they are beautiful and soothing. Spanish can be up beat or sound so loving and beautiful. I just speak a little spanish and mandarin. Not really enough of either for anything. I do not speak japanese at all. [moondancer]

oh yea.i love J-metal. there's a band in japan right now called metal safari that is awesome. [scarlet_woman]

Hello regal_aeros, I do listen to foreign songs. I don't understand a thing but sometimes, the melody is really catchy and I like that! I listen to any songs that I attracted to, doesn't matter what language is being used to sing the songs... [gr8life]

Yes, I collect Cd's from Japan and French/Brazilian musicians. I like L'arc en ciel; a rock band from Japan. I have compilation Cd's of Jazz songs from French/Brazilian musicians. I believe that music is universal despite the lyrics from languages that we don't even understand. [ingridrepi]

Yah i do. I love anime and i love listening and singing the soundtracks of those anime and other songs too that has an interesting sounds. =D [check23]

I listen to Korean songs, actually I have songs that I memorized because I became addicted to it, its Perhaps love themesong from the korean drama Princess Hours. Me and my guy pal used to do duets of this song and we even recorded it. I also love songs from Hwang Jin Yi and Hong Gil Dong, these are korean drama too. I don't know if you happened to watch 100 Pounds Beauty I love the song there entitled Maria. Some Korean Films have good soundtrack too isn't it. I have known so many but I don't understand the meaning. I love the song of Wonder Girls , I am now playing Tell me and Nobody here at the office. I love their music. Its more upbeating that our music. Our music are mostly revivals or remakes which feels lame because they can't composed or produced originals. It sounds failure to me if they can compose originals. I love korean lovesongs, really am. [grecychunny26]

I listen to any language when the music moves me. Beauty of different kinds thrills me! I'm just as happy with Arabian or Chinese as I am with Japanese or old Italian or German operas, even if I don't know a word! I have CDs of Amerind (both South & North American tribes) music, Australian Aborigine music, Sunni, German folk songs, old Celtic ballads, Russian Orthodox masses, Bulgarian, East Indian ragas, you name it, I probably have it! If it's good, I'll listen! happy Maggiepie [Maggiepie]

Yeah but only a few really. There are some of my favorite artists that sing in a different language but usually sing in English. Usually though if I am listening to a band that sings in a different language I usually just end up focusing on their music rather then their lyrics. Each band has at least two voices because they can speak with their mouth and they can speack with their instruments, [jambi462]

In the past I have always shied away from music that is sung in another language bu I had a brief stint when I listended to indian music and i found it quite enjoyable.Tha fact of the matter is music is the universal language and one can really learn to appreciate music that is done in another language ,so I may try that again sometime [ronnyb]

I love to hear people sing in Italian and Spanish - they seem to be languages that are ideal for music. [astonysh]

Yes as long as I understand the lyrics and meaning of the song because it is important and the melody to ^_^ [evictavis]

My Polish friend sent me some pop music from his home country. I really enjoyed listening to it although I didn't understand any of the words that were sung. I felt the singers atmosphere and guessed what they were trying to say. One of the tracks was the Polish group singing in English. I really like listening to world music because I am keen on learning about different countries. The music is part of the culture. [maximax8]

I do like listening to music in foreign language, but when I particularly like a song I feel the need to know the meaning of the words. It's another way to learn a language, too. I did it for english songs, and I'm doing in for Chinese ones now. Luckily I find most of the lirics on line, because if I listen to the song and watch the video on you tube, even if there are subs I never read them in time, and if they aren't very clear it's impossible to copy them. Lately I'm listening to Zhou Yumin's songs (I admit, I looked for his songs only because I like him as an actor. And I prefer him acting, not singing) There are a lot of other dramas song that I like but I don't know their names... [XiaoLin]

I love african music. Most are in a african dilect. But the music is so good even the tone of singer voice is nice even if i dont understand the words. [jdyrj777]

I listen to many different types of music and sometimes yes I do listen to music that is sung in foreign languages. I do not have to understand the words to all music as long as I enjoy the music I do not care what language it is spoken in. ninja [greeneyedlady]

I will listen to any music from any culture performed in any language that is quality music. [Canellita]
