When I was in law school, I couldn't concentrate on studying when music was playing in the background. I couldn't get any of what I was reading in my head. What gets in my head, however, is the song that plays over and over again long after the music has actually stopped playing. I have a friend though who always puts on his headphones when reading. What about you, do you listen to music when reading or studying?

Once upon a time i did like that but now i am not getting concentration in reading by listening music simultaneously, so i am not listening to music while i am studying. Now i am feeling that we should have a calm and neat atmoshphere to study and to get concentration on our studies. Then only the studied mater can me rememberable otherwise we can't remember the mater what we read on yesterady. i also like to listen to music when reading or studying while i am going through the topics that are discussed on that day but when exams are one or two weeks i will concentrate on the main topics that are important for exams so i will not listen to any songs just concentrate on the topics i have learn [onlinejalsa4u]

I preferred listening to music while I was practicing mathematics or accounting. I found I could concentrate much better when I was listening to music. It also helped relaxed and not go to sleep(I would feel sleepy the moment I took out a book to study). But that was only when I was doing maths or accounts. But the same could not be said if I doing was some theoritical subjects like economics,etc. Then my concentration would definitely be on the song played. I do listen to music when I am writing an essay or studying. It's very rare if I listen to music when I am reading though. But yeah the same thing happens to me. I start to sing along to the song and then I look back at my essay and I have more ideas to write about. So in that way it's really helpful to me when I am writing an essay or something. I used to do that, either a music played or watching tv while reviewing or even eating while reviewing. But, I found out that whenever am focused with two things like studying on one hand and listening to music on the other hand, for sure, I can't go far on my studies or studying would take a long hours. I could not digest what am reading or studying in just one reading. It will take 2 readings after i could finally understood the subject. When studying, reading or reviewing on something is a rush, let us say, I only have 2 hours to study on a certain subject, I will not listen to music. I would really see to it that the room is quiet for me to concentrate on it. Law school is tough. It has a different way of teching its students. Not the usual spoon-feeding way . The student in Law School has to be prepared whenever he / she enters the room. He/she has to have an advanced reading on the subject and few of the required jurisprudence on that day. Reading or studying law books require one to thoroughly read and understood it. Because of the long coverage of recitations on a particular day, you would have insufficient time to read the scope, hence, no time should be wasted. So, when am reviewing or studying, I would see to it that the room is quiet for me to fully digest and understand the coverage or subject without wasting time reading it twice or thrice. [maean_19]

I can when I don't need to memorize or if those are not tough or hard complex task. But when I need to concentrate especially when study for final exams I can't listen to music while study they distract me and may later lead to headache. The correct music would be soothing to the ear and listening to it while studying would enhance memory and retention. Don't listen however to loud, rock or rap music because this will excite our brain unnecessarily and removes focus from the material being studied. Soft, mellow music is best. I enjoy listening to music while doing most household tasks, like cleaning the dishes, taking out the trash, ect. But I couldent listen to music, or music with alot of words while reading. I couldent concentrate when there are two sets of words. I only listen to guitar tracks or songs with few words while reading or studying. We do have different styles in studying.As a student before, I recall my habits everytime that I am studying a certain lesson to prepare for either quiz or an examination.Some of us can study while listening to the readio. They cannot understand the certain topic that they are studying if they will not be listening to the music.Otherwise,some are fond of studying at the same time they are studying We can find it an unusual habbit because some of us get easily distructed upon hearing any kind of news while studying.But as what I said, we do have our owm habbits in studying.The most important is whatever that habbit we have, we should understand the lesson that we are studying.Happy Posting. I used to like listening to music while solving math problems. i can't read or memorize text when there's music in the background, but munching on light snacks helps a bit. When I comes to solving math problems though, I have no problem with the music. It keeps a part of my brain from getting bored, I think. [mimico]

It depends on the time you are studing. Most of the time ,music can help me concentrate on the content I was reading.Without music I always think about other things unconsciously.However, when it come to the preparation for a examination or something important, i don't need music. On the contrary, I can neither read nor study in complete silence, however, it depends on what kinds of sounds are in the background. My favorite place to read or study (I rarely get there anymore) is a small city park in my home town, where I could sit beside the river and read and study. I could concentrate quite well with the rumbling of the river, the noises of the meadows and the distant noise from the highway, and my mind would never stray, but locked up in a library I couldn't concentrate at all, and my mind was always wandering off topic, perhaps it was the sound of all the other people trying to be so silent. I find some some of the more gentle classic music can provide my mind with enough of a distraction to keep it concentrated on whatever I am actually studying. Hope you are doing well. I really listen to music when i read a novel since the outside atmospheric sounds ditracts me alot and during studying i do the same but due to the compulsion of my parents i tend to diconnect and study without thema and i fell that music helps you to concentrate more than anything else and the outside atmosphere is also cut off helping you a lot to concentrate...happy mylotting... However, these days, when I am doing assignments or reading articles, I DO have trouble concentrating with the music, or TV going. I can read with music on the background but I cannot seem to comprehend on what I´m reading. I´d rather watch television while studying, it works for me better than music. Music only helps me on my studies when I need to type or write something. Fast beats to finish my work faster. But never for reading my notes and understanding them. I can only listen to alt punk music when I study. I really don't know why?? It's usually something like Paramore or Taking Back Sunday. If I play any other genre I will lose concentration in my work and start dancing around the room. Or if it's classical I will pretend that my pen is a baton and start counting the beats of song. i'm still at school. and all i can tell, is that i often lisen to music while studying, i mean by studying , working on mathematic exercices, phisycs , and all subjects which need me , to elaborate arithmetic methods and scheming works. but , i just can't hold listening to music while reading, i mean while reading , some lessons especially for the first time, it requires a lot of concentration, and clear mind reflecting. i can't listen to music while reading casual books or novels. because i'm a kind of person, who get really deep, in rythms and lyrics of the song i'm listening to!the only exception is when i'm working on my own studies subjects, it's like, music gave me the rythm to work, to reason and to elaborate. that's weird , but it just me and the music LOL. I tend to do better when I have some background noise. If the music is too loud, then I tend to sing to it and stray away from my books and get lost in the rhythm and lyrics. I used to get distracted easily too. I used to prefer studying in a really quiet environment, preferably with nobody else around. It all changed when I started studying with my classmates who study at cafes. Now I can study in noisy places but I would still prefer studying in a really quiet place. yes! so that i will not get sleepy while studying at night. i also get scared being the only person awake at night so i use music to keep me company. i don't actually listen to the music, i don't hear it at all if im concentrating in studying. i don't even hear other people are actually talking to me when i am busy doing something, or im just a little deaf hehe [eabaterina]
