I don't really like listening to music while I'm trying to type something. Sometimes it messes up my concentration and I just can't think straight. My husband on the oher hand can listen to music for hours while he's working on his computer. What about you?

Why not? as I am typing this response I have my headphone with the music blasting in my ears. I do that most of the time as I feel it inspires me more to have music while I do my work and in this case typing and thinking what to write here. It is multi tasking. [zandi458]
yes i do! i think i got used to it, doing something while listening to some music.. not only when i do computer typing but even when i was still a student, i used to listen to a music while studying.. i know to some people it can mess up their concentration, and to some, it has this positive factor! maybe really i just got used to it and music wont distract me at all.. i love music and i love listening to it whatever i do.. hehe.. and mind you, my media player is turned on while writing this one, myLotting! lol [leizlmarie]
To me it depends on the music. I can listen to Jazz/Smooth Jazz and other types of music along that line while doing anything. Other genres of music I tend not to listen to while doing other things. [phairenglish]

Hello There. It really depends. When I am writing a review for a product or device, I prefer not to listen to the music so that I will only focus on my work. However, if I am just mylotting or answering survey sites, I prefer to listen to some happy and light music because it really turn on my mood into responding discussions here. Even at work, when I am engaged with some updating of records, I would rather listen to music while typing and updating a record on our database. Yes I listen to music whilst typing, but not all the time. I guess it depends on the task. Sometimes when I'm working if I get to something that I'm stuck on and it requires a lot of working out then I might mute the music until I've worked it out. It also depends on the type of music and what mood you're in I think. Sometimes you're feeling upbeat and want something motivating and lifting to listen to. Other times you want something calming and soothing. Maybe it's easier to concentrate with soothing music or even music with no lyrics. There has been the odd time when I've accidentally typed in the lyrics I was listening to by mistake! [jazzchameleon]

Hello Shar19 I quite often have got the radio on but I can still type and listen at the same time apart from when the news comes on and then I have to pause so I can listen to it properly. Later on in the evening I don't like to listen to the radio because I don't like the type of music they put on at that time so I put the tv on. As my pc is on a desk in my bedroom and I have a small tv beside the pc I can just watch it/listen to it at the same time as myLotting!! [Humbug25]

If I am trying to do copywriting or researching for my job, I usually have music or television on very low, or even off. If it is instrumental music, that does not bother me. Music with vocals distracts me. However, if I am doing less important typing, I am not bothered by the television or music. I sometimes need it on for some noise because though I love working at home, copywriting becomes a tedious and lonesome task when done every day and night. [Annie2]

If so then in my case I am opposite to you. I listen to music all the time whenever I am using my computer doesn't matter if I am typing or even reading. Its helps my mind exercise somewhat parallel processing lol.... But yes it reduces the concentration to what we are actually doing.
