I pretty much listen to the same kind of music as I did when i was younger. There are a lot of people that have a huge change in their taste for music as they have gotten older though. I have broadened my horizons though and do listen to several types of music that I did not when I was younger though. What about you? Has your taste for music stayed the same or is it different now?

responses and comments:
hello jenintn... yeah, i still listen on the same type of music when i was younger and i still like them more...ever since, i really like those sentimental types of music and some pop music, and till now that's still what i want...happy [ckyera]
lol I bet your aunts thought you were a real cutie singing that song so little..lol [JenInTN]
Hi Jen, I like Madonna and Michael Jackson when I was like 8 or 9 and until now, I like most of their songs. I do think my taste level with music improved as time passes by, because I got to hear different genres and styles. But, what I noticed is that, the Artists I adored when I was younger is the same artist I like now. Although, I have more favorites on my list still, they're on the top slot. happy [danitykane]
nice!wub that is really great..hmmm lucky you!wub for sure he's also lucky to have you!happy [danitykane]
for me, i listen to the songs that has a lot of meanings and meningful one. but i've grown from japanese songs and musics and i stick with it even if i am not japanese and cant understand the lyrics. But now i am starting to learn the language and starting to understand the songs! good for me. I still stick with the same genre of music like rock, pop, inspirational, light musics and rnb. Life will not be completed without music :) [uchihaseymour]
no, actually Japanese language is easy to learn, unlike learning Korean , Chinese and Cantonese, there are similar words to learn to but has different meaning. :) hehe~ Japanese people are so creative that's why I stick with them also :) [uchihaseymour]
I started listening to all type of music since my childhood. And it so happens most of the music you listen to when you were young kept playing in your mind forever.Especially the lyrics of the songs. As I got older I just started further to enhance my taste on different types of music mainly instrumental. But my personal opinion is that we don't have any undisputed kings and queens in pop as we had years back.happy [balasri]
like you i also had broadened my horizons when it comes to music listening. specially now that i am in a band. i still listen to the type of music i want but also listen to other music for i can also learn a lot from different genre. i still listen to all my favorite 80's music for it brings back memories and it does make me feels young. har har har. [se7enthbird]
my wife has a bigger knowledge with music than i am. she used to sing a little of everything from the 50's up to the present for until now she never stop learning. when we are just still dating she knows songs that i never heard of. then she will laugh at me, but understand why i dont know because for her she thinks for me jazz is boring. har har har. but now i have knowledge of those music. har har har. i am not bored with jazz, but when i met her we dont play jazz. so i dont have knowledge about it. [se7enthbird]
Good morning, dear Jen! My ROOTS Music has stayed the same...New Country, Old Country...Pop Country! But yes, my horizons did broaden in my Teens..and as I travelled thru each era of my life, another genre was added, but I always slip back into my comfort zone, and turn on the Country tunes. But, because it has been such a part of my life, it also brings back the bad, with the good...and I always tend to really listen to Country, where other forms of music is just background! So nice to hear from you, Jen....I guess you are gearing up for Thanksgiving...busy, busy time for you! I so admire my American lady friends whom go thru this huge hurdle...just before the Xmas one! We have almost two months to recuperate between celebrations. HUGZ...have a great Sunday, Jen! [pergammano]
Good morning to you too my sweet friend! Things are gearing up for Thanbksgiving and I am seeing a bit of travel in my future for it..lol..I don't know if I'm looking forward to that or not but we'll see.happy Music has been such a huge part of your life and I would say that you were lucky enough to get the taste for your future when you were young. I think we most always go back to the thing we know and love even when we do broaden our horizons with new things. Thanks for responding and have a great weekend. [JenInTN]
I like the music when to play as well that I played when I was young I try to keep up with all kinds of music that's out there now but most of the time I go with oldes but goodies 50s 60s 70s and 80s.but as taste goes for the music not really. I go with the flow. cd [crazydaisy]
I have kind of went with the flow too. I guess with a teen in the house and a musician running around with a guitar, you can tend to open up a lot to new music..lol..I do enjoy the oldies but goodies for my preference too. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
Good morning Jen, I listen to nothing but oldies but goodies. U know i'm old & 'SAAT' IN MY WAYS, LOL. [ANTIQUELADY]
LOL..nothing wrong with that! I likem oldies too. [JenInTN]
I have a pretty eclectic range of music that I listen to. At this point I just stay away from stuff the bothers my heart rhythm. So, honestly, I can't listen to some things that I used to. And one song may bother me one day and not bother me a week later. I just listen to what I like and I like a lot of styles. [Irishfrndly65]
LOL..there is some music that I look back on and think..what did I like about that?..but then there are some that I love to hear. I like a lot of different stuff too. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
hi,i like listening music.it refreshes my mind.when i was a kid i used to listen any kind of song with a good music and rhythemical notes...but sometimes you know listning music puts you into some controversies...so a for a time period i stopped listening music.but now again i am listening to music...and now i like all types of music specially the arabian ones...i heard that people in dubai are good in promoting those kinds of music... [sunil_008]
Wow..very upbeat music. I liked it. Thanks for the response and sharing one of your favorites. [JenInTN]
I have remained the same. Actually I like all kinds of music, so it really does not depend on my age but depends on my mood. I usually prefer soft music but I also like rock, jazz and anything and everything as long as it is nice on the ears. I think I will remain this way for ever. I will let you know in case my tastes change.lol [sagnik42]
I think that mood is a definite way to describe what I want to listen to also. I love all kinds of music and my tastes have not changed a lot but I have become more open to different styles. Thanks for responding and keep me updated if you change..lol... [JenInTN]
I still enjoy all music. There is some, like super heavy metal or gansta rap that I am not a fan of, but even in those musical genres I have found an occasional one that I can listen to. My favorite music is show tunes and then oldies from my youth (50s, 60s, 70s, 80s), and of course, classical. I think because of my show Business and dance background, that I lean towards those. I like light rock music stations, too. [nanajanet]
nanajanet! How have you been? I bet with your dancing background that you would lean more towards the music that makes you feel like moving. Thanks for responding and take care. [JenInTN]
Hi, Jen. It has pretty mush stayed the same. The only thing that has changed is that they have newer artists out that were not present in my younger years. But for the ones that are still available. I will listen to them.. I also like to listen to waltz music. Symphony rthymns is another choice that I like to.happy [cream97]
I hate it when that happens with my computer. I have stayed basically the same with my favorites too. I like the way waltz music sounds too. I wish I could do the waltz. [JenInTN]
Hi, Jen. It has pretty mush stayed the same. The only thing that has changed is that they have newer artists out that were not present in my younger years. But for the ones that are still available. I will listen to them.. I also like to listen to waltz music. Symphony rthymns is another choice that I like to.happy [cream97]
I have satellite radio in my car and I am having fun surfing around and listening to new kinds of music. I grew up on classical (all my parents played) and 60's and 70's rock. Later I got interested in Broadway and big band music. Right now I'm getting back into classical, exploring Blues, etc. [dawnald]
When we are young we are kind of stuck with what ever our parents listen too but it's funny when we get older we sometimes tend to go back to what we started with. I like some classical music. It can be very relaxing. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I listen to generally the same things I listened to growing up. I mostly like rock, I LOVE 80s music, and most of the same stuff I liked as a child and teenager. I think my tastes have changed slightly and I actually like more now than I did when I was little, I think I am a little more open-minded, but generally my taste is the same. [Bethany1202]
I think I'm more open minded too. I like rock too and that's what I pretty much started out on. Later on there was some country and pop thrown in. I like them both but i do keep my station set mostly on the rock station. [JenInTN]
I think its pretty much the same. Although I also give more importance to lyrics. I prefer meaningful lyrics rather than just random words and profane words. [VANILLAREY]
I pay more attention to the lyrics too. I think it was more about what was popular when I was younger. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
I still listen to the music of beegees, Michael jackson and Madonna. The music is timeless [mimiang]
Those are some great names and voices. I like them too. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
I listen to some of the same music as I did when I was young, but lately have found it shifting. I listen to more and more Indie Music these days, instead of the "punk" and pop songs I used to listen to. [danrunsfast614]
I think that sometimes our tastes can tend to mellow out a bit as we get older or open ourselves up to new things. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I've been a musician most of my life, and so my tastes have been added to as I have tried different styles along the way. But these days I find myself buying remixes of the performers I liked back then - like Eagles, Croce, Guy Clark, and so on. The major difference, if there is one, is that I have lost the snobbish attitude I (and a hell of a lot of other musicians) had to ABBA when they were big, and now recognise them as one of the most talented and musically innovative groups of the last 40 years. Blame that on my exercise bike program and my partner's love affair with Abba lol. Lash [grandpa_lash]
I had to look up your profile to see if you are too young to remember them, but you're not. Then I checked out the ABBA site, and discovered that none of the 19 world-wide gold singles happened in the USA, so apparently your country was the only one in the Western world that didn't catch on to the ABBA phenomenon. They broke up in the 80's, so it is extraordinary that they are still selling huge numbers of albums 20 years later, about 3 million p.a. There have been a couple of films made about them. ABBA is one of the world's best-selling bands, having sold nearly 370 million records worldwide, making them the second best-selling band in history and the second best-selling pop artists in history. Their Dancing Queen is number 7 on today's YouTube Top Songs if you want to get an idea of them. Lash [grandpa_lash]
Not at all. I feel more stimulated by oldies, and country. When I was young, all I listened to was hard rock and music that is now considered classic rock. I must be getting oldlol [geminikid]
LOL..I thought the exact same thing when I heard a few of my favorite songs referred to as classic..LOL..Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I've gone through phases. At one point it was country, another it was rock and oldies, another it was rap and latino, then back to country and that is where it's stayed. I've always enjoyed country music but there were phases I didn't listen to it because it wasn't "cool" lol... But now it's my favorite and preferred type! [SomeCowgirl]
I think there's an added flair to country music now that makes it more enjoyable for others. That and non country music singers are getting into country where also some country music singers are now getting into other genres. [SomeCowgirl]
I would say that I do listen to the same music as I was younger only because it's something I grew up with. Don't get me wrong, I do listen to current music and I add my oldies and my newbies to my mp3 so that I'll have the best of both worlds. The great thing is that I pass on those old songs to my ids so the music never dies!! Few examples of my oldies are late 60's, 70's 80's soft rock genre and I was born in 78!! [mariaf324]
lol, it is fun and they do think its new music especially when newer artists sing it to todays pop music!!! [mariaf324]
Yes I do my mother used to listen to Vera lyn and I have just purchased a cd of hers,I still listen to elton john, jim reeves, petula clark.I listen to most music over the years but my favourites endure well and still get a lot of pleasure from listening to the old music from my youth.I also like motown diana ross ect cannot beat all that old stuff. Most of it has come back revamped by todays artists.I cannot stand house.rap, some of it gives me a headache. [suzzy3]
Hi suzzy! I think that most of us tend to listen to the things we grew up on. I have listened and wnjoyed a lot of different kinds of music but I do prefer to hear the stuff I listened to when I was younger. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
To be honest, I have a huge change in my taste for music as I have gotten older though. You see, I prefer pop music to classical music. With the rapid development of music, especially the pop music, my tastes for music have changed a lot as I am growing up. I know a lot about the pop music scene and the songs that were popular during my childhood have been out of date at present. Of course, if one listens to the classical music, then he/she won't change his/her tastes because most clasical music are classical all the time. Happy myLotting! [getbrowser]
I can see why you feel that way. When I have listened to classical music, it has always been to relax or during a massage. Pop music is more of a get up and go kind of music. Fits my lifestyle a little better than the classical although I probably could use a little more of it. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I still like some of the music I used to listen to when I was younger. But not all of it I guess I like a variety of music now certain songs that I didn't hear when I was younger and I know I probably wouldn't have liked them but now I do or certain ones I hated and mow like.I feel the same way;] [jahernandezrivas]
I have also gained a certain appreciation for certain music that I didn't care for when I was younger. I think it's a good thing to have a variety of musical tastes. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
I would have to say the type of music has stayed the same, but the genres have expanded. Music with emotion (happy, sad, or peaceful) or emotion inspiring (messages to think about) music is the type, but the genre is the style. Where I once would not listen to Eminem or Ozzy and such, now I will, to some. Deep meanings of life can be found in their music. [MJ_Dakota]
I am a country girl too. My taste in music is very wide. I love Shania Twain! She has this one love song that is just moving..It only hurts when I breathe. I think that's the name of it. Oh it's great. [JenInTN]
I have to laugh, my husband just mentioned something about this topic a few days ago. We both still listen to about the same music as we did when we were younger. It's now called Classic Rock, but when I was younger, it was rock, hard rock. We still listen to the new age rock but always seem to turn our stations to the classic rock ones. [Jae2619]
Me too. I always end up back on the "classic" rock or "classic" country channels..lol. I guess I'm classic now too.lol [JenInTN]
Some, but what's even funnier is that I listen to music that came way before my generation now. While, I still listen to some pop stuff and a lot of current hip-hop, I enjoy oldies and classic rock more than my younger years. But then again, I'm not really that old haha. [basvb86]
True, I probably did hear a lot that from my parents. My father used to always listen to oldies, but after a while we converted him over to some of the more pop rock stuff. [basvb86]
Nope!! my taste of music are no longer the same when I was younger than now that I am older. Of course there are lots of changes.. I do listen to old music but I preferred to listen the new ones in the market that are top hits.. My taste has differed a lot.. [Bebs08]
I like a lot of the newer stuff but I do tend to listen to the older stuff too. There are a lot of people that love the hit lisrt. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
For me ,when i was young i like to listen to the music that is full of happiness ,and when i listen to these kind of music i always as bright as the writer ,and i always think maybe i will become very successful and happy.but now ,i change my music taste ,i like to listen to the pop music much, and some music such as some blue music give me a lot of space to think of the past and sometimes i will think about what i did and maybe sometimes i regreted much. [lubeimao]
My moods are greatly affected by music too. I have went through periods in which I have avoided the sadder songs because I needed the perky ones to give me a boost . Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I have to agree with you on this one, Jen. I listen the same music......the same songs even, for the most part, but have added different types. I grew up listening to country with my parents but wasn't a big fan, but in the last couple of years have found that I have become a fan on my own. I like watching the videos on the country channels now. But I am an oldies fan, so listen to the same stuff I always have, but like much of the new stuff coming out, as well. [idowrite72]
I moved away from the country music as well only to come back. I think that over the years we all tend to listen to different things and then establish alot of the tastes that we had or listened to when we were young. I was a late bloomer because my grandparents weren't that in to music but once I started listening to it, I have never stopped. [JenInTN]
Yes my taste is music has changed from what I use to listen to when I was young. When I was young I listen to rock and roll. Now that I am a lot older I would rather listen to country and western music. While driving in my car I always have a country western radio channel on. [happy6162]
Hi happy! I think that there are a lot of people that have a more mellow taste in music as they get a little older. I think that there are different messages sent throught the different genres that we relate to or we don't. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
It always evolves. That's the most important thing whether you're an artist or just simply a fan of this great medium which we called music. When I was young I started listening to almost actually anything good, cool, and pretty much rebellious. My dad introduced me to rock n' roll Elvis, I saw my uncles watching MTV back in the 80's and seeing those new wave bands and post punk groups made me more interested in music. On the other hand, my mum had these collections of cassette tapes of mellow songs like The Carpenters, Angela Boffill, ABBA which opened my ears to listening to love tunes and mellow songs. Then when I reached first grade I asked my parents that I wanted a walkman for Christmas present or birthday. As soon as I got one I bought my first tape which was Tears for Fears. After that, whenever I get money during holidays and of course birthdays I buy tapes from Soundtrack, rock to pop. Until now I pretty much buy a hard copy of the artist and I sometimes listen to music that I used to listened to. I love to cover all chapters in music including the 1800's. For me, music is like a time machine which gives a proper definition in our own history. Great topic by the way. Thanks. [mchavez11]
I like the way you refer to music as a medium. There is a definite difference in the fan and the artist. Where I am a fan and just love it..my b/f is the artist. I have really opened up to a lott of different music since meeting him. Thsnks for the response. [JenInTN]
i don't think that i'm getting much old. i'm 34 and still young. i love every type of song . song type are depend on mood. some time i like to hear classic, some time modern, some time folk and some time hip hop and others heavy metallic song.but almost time i like to hear little soft type song. [raiyandhaka]
i don't feel well to say we getting old. so i don't tell that until i'm 75 yr. LOL. i thought if i get chance to reach the age 75. i hope that time i also would be happy to feel young. you my think what a ever green is me !!! [raiyandhaka]
My music taste change a bit but it still stay the same. I still listen to rock but not as much as when i am younger. I started with heavy rock then shifts to rap metal and now i am into hiphop. Not a big jump cause bands like Korn and rage gainst the machine are somewhat close to hiphop. Their music has a big crossover to hiphop so their fans have a more likely chance to like hiphop also. Right now im listening to kid cudi, kanye west, jayz and alot more. [stephon8]
Thanks for sharing. I think that we all open ourselves up along the way to different things. [JenInTN]
Yes, I do listen at times. The music that I had grown up with are mostly classics and pop. I do love playing them even now since their kind of music are those that could really lasts for generations over generations. Even if the evolution of music nowadays has greatly changed, I still loving the old ones even after a few years more from now. [dgraphicrookie]
There are some timeless classics to look back on for sure. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
Ya, I use to listen the same type of music I used to listen when I was young. Because to me, Music never becomes boring. I like the rhythmic music most. When I feel lonely music can erase my loneliness. I like the pop music too. The music which I heard when I was younger, are still ringing as they were the first ever music I have heard in my life after borning. Music can remove my loneliness as well as can remove my sorrows. [rafaelnadal007]
I agree that it can make us feel like we are not alone. I can't tell you the times that I have woke up in a down and out mood and listened to a song that just give me a boost. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I will not listen to the same type of music along with the age growing. When I was young, I listen to the school song and the folk. Now I tend to listen to the pop music as I can sing it at kalaokay house. I think maybe decade passed by, I prefer to listen to the classical music to get the real meaning of life. It is not just the different taste toward music, but the different attitude towards life. Have a nice day. [sasalove]
I can see how a different attitude towards life could make you change the type of music that you listen too. Thanks for the insight. [JenInTN]
Yes indeed I do. I listen to a larger range of music than I did when I was younger. It all depends on my mood. I love classical on a rainy day. I enjoy classic rock in the car. I like hard rock and classical when I am working on the computer. If I am having a really bad time and can't sleep I listen to Mind Scapes on cable. [celticeagle]
I think that is a good thing. Our interests have broadened. [celticeagle]
I also listen to the new songs. But i also keep a collection of my old songs and music.I agree that the tastes changes according to age and that we do broaden our horizons.Well,my taste has been expanded in case of music.I just like it that way. Thanks! [UltimateAsoka]
I like it that way too. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
Yes, I do listen to a lot of the same music that I listened to when I was younger, but I have opened up to some new sounds as well. My iTunes list is large. [rogue13xmen13]
I bet it is. My b/f has a music list that is unreal. I could listen to anything I wanted to on it..lol.He puts the computer on random play and it's untelling what will play next...lol..Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I listen to a wide variety of different music styles. I did so when I was younger and I still do so now. There are new genres though that I have come to appreciate more over time, and other genres that I don't listen to any more or just not very often. I listen to EBM, folk music, classical music and pop music mostly nowadays. [cyberfluf]
Sometimes I listen to a certain type of music more than another. Kind of lie a phase or a mood. I think it's good to have a variety of musical tastes. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
i don't listen the same type of music that i did in the past. [mithooooon]
Really? What type have you changed to and from? [JenInTN]
Yes, I listen to the same kind of music as I did when I was younger maybe because eversince I'm a loner and I like sad songs because it brings back memories and one thing more thing it helps a lot on my part. [eubilisa]
I love songs that brings back good memories. I have opften heard songs that remind me of things that have past. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I actually listen to some of the music I listened to from then and cringe! I think my gosh...I actually liked this song? Makes me think of my Mom when she listened to the music we liked and thought it was weird. Now I listen to some of the music that my daughter listens to. I wonder what she is thinking and how she can call this good music?!?! Must be a normal "Mom" thing to do. [gina2008]
LOL..must be a normal mom thing..I do that to some of my daughter's music too. I do have a few songs from my past that I wonder what it was that I liked about them. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
yeah you are right ,some musics are evergreen .they gave their special flavour in all ages of life wether it is younger, youth or older.that's why i am fond of some kind of songs [216ashutosh]
There are a lot of songs that have really left their mark on the world. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
Me too. I still listen to the same type of music that I liked when I was younger. I like to listen to slow rock mostly and some pop. Well, in addition to that I started listening to kiddie music and classical music because of my baby. They said that classical music is good for babies. [rcombos]
I have heard the same thing about classical music. Those kiddie songs are kind of catchy aren't they..lol..Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
I consider myself a young 50 ish person. All my life I have loved music. The amount of vinyl records I collected would amaze you then went to CD's, which I have manage to collect quite a few. Now it is my iPod which contains all of my music. I like all kinds of music but still partial to rock and roll. My collection includes rock & roll, country, latin/mexican, folk, bluegrass, some jazz and swing, and pop hits. I like Springsteen, Black eye peas, John Mayer, Emmylou Harris and a whole lot of other artists. I have a very diverse library. I just like music and always looking for a new song. [ryzach]
I don't think there is anything better than a diverse collection. My b/f has a hundred vinyls that he keeps downstairs. it had been years since I had listened to a record..lol. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
Yes I love listening to the music especially the old songs. I love also the music that my mother listens when I was young. I like 60's 70's and some 80's songs. Until now while listening to this music it relaxes me. [francheskie]
I remember when I did get to visit my mom that she was a huge music lover and listened to music that i still enjoy now. I specifically remember Aldo Nova's Fantasy Life. It was amazing to me back then. She liked playing it loud. Thanks for the response, [JenInTN]
well my taste still is the same . although I listen now several types of music, I am still fond of one kind of genre. [toataim]
Sometimes we do tend to stick to a certain genre as our favorite. I like several types to choose from. Thank for the input. [JenInTN]
Yes I do listen to the same music as I have always loved all kinds of music except Rap because I do not consider that to even slightly resemble music. IMO that is just babbling/yattering to a beat. [whiteheather39]
I have heard some pretty crappy rap before. There are a few songs I'm ok with but some of it does offend me. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
Hi, JenInTN. As I grow older I always want to listen with my favorite songs when I was younger than my old today. I don't like most of the songs that will be played today. I choose what really good and have meaning. I love listen to country songs, my friend> What music did you listen? [aerous]
Oh, I see. Were the same in taste about music. Country songs is really good. I like listening it so much... [aerous]
I do still listen to the same kind of music I heard many years ago. I was a teenager in the 60s, and I still like the Rolling Stones, Led Zeppelin, and Pink Floyd. One thing that has changed is I now like opera. I had no use for it when I was young, but I have grown to appreciate it. Go figure. Opera and rock 'n roll? Yes. [trruk1]
I still listen to the same kind of some of the music when I was young. Just like you I also appreciate new music. The ipod has made listening to music easy. I have downloaded all the golden oldies I appreciated on to my ipod which I carry every where. In fact, it comes in very handy in the car, when am stack in traffic. To me, some music does not go out of fashion! [in4net6rix]
My girls have ipods but I haven't got one yet. Maybe I need to get me one. I know they have had theirs forever and they still have room for new songs. Thanks for reponding. [JenInTN]
i listen to the same music now as i did growing up but now i listen to other kind now i like some of all kinds but rap i can't take that at all it is nerve racking.it has the same beat and that is is why it gets on my nerves. [anniefannie]
Why hello miss anniefannie! Did you have a nice b-day? I hope so. Jo said you were out an about on your b-day. Nice to hear from you and I hope you are well. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
It has slightly changed but somewhat the same. [Hansa410]
I have become a little more open and have listened to more genres over time. Thanks for responding and welcome to myLot. [JenInTN]
Oh, I have to admit that I do. I'm a die hard classic rock fan. Of course, as I've gotten older I do like other types of music as well, but, classic rock is still my first love when it comes to music. Purrs, Catwoman=^..^= & Mija [kellyjeanne]
Now your talking! I love classic rock too, I always flip my radio back to that station. Thanks for responding! [JenInTN]
Yep, still listen to country, oldies and rock like I did as a kid. Teens I listened to the 80's stuff. [marysia66]
You're welcome. [marysia66]
I still like to listen to the same music that I did as a child and as a teenager. I was a big Beatles fan when I was growing up and I still listen to their music regularly as well as other music from the 60's and 70's. happy I have broadened my musical taste these days and like most Alternative Music from Blues/Roots and Folk Music to hard rock and punk. I also like some Hip Hop/ Dance music, but not the type that is played by mainstream media. [RawBill1]
I would love to be able to play some of their stuff on guitar. I have some guitars here but have no patience when it comes to learning it. I am learning African Drumming, much easier! Sounds like I would get along with him well! happy [RawBill1]
My taste for music has stayed the same over the years. I love music. I do listen to different types of music but it has stayed the same and really hasn't changed. [sweetgirl_k1]
Same for me. I have broadened my tastes but they are pretty much the same as they always were. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
My taste in music hasn't really changed since I've gotten older, I still listen to the same types of music I always did, but I listen more to a specific type now than I do any others, my radio is always on a specific station in my car and I rarely move it..ha. [walijo2008]
I think thst as we get older we also determine more of what we enjoy and what we don't. I do tend to change my radio channel alot...commercials..lol..Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
used to listen to like rock music and now i like pop. Now when i listen to the music I used to like, I don't really like it =/ [randomusername]
ReallY? Even though I have broadened my music, I do still like the stuff I liked before. There are a lot of people that don't like the stuff they used to listen to though. Thanks for sharing. [JenInTN]
As i have to look back...things changed a bit. Before i'm into like all pop-ballad and just local, American and European artists but this time i'm much more interested on the dance-r&b-rock music and been concentrating on asian music like Korean, Japanese and Chinese for a double purpose, enjoy their music and at the same time it's easier for me then to learn their language. [emptydb]
I have heard that listening to music can help you learn a language more quickly. Thanks for the response and welcome to myLot. [JenInTN]
There's no doubt, I listened to different kinds of songs when I was young. At kindergarten age, of course I listened to musical kiddy songs such as sesame street music and others like that, and as I grew older I started listening to boy bands and pop music. But now I like to hear Alternative and modern rock music, and don't listen to boy bands anymore. I do think age matters in your taste of music. Let's see what we listen to when we are like 50 years old in the future.. :D [dimsumz]
Yes..i do think that age plays a part in the music we like. There are a few bands that I used to listen to that I don't care for anymore. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
Not anymore. Before I prefer pop music which I only access through radio stations. However now, as more and more medium can be used to listen to new music such as the web and different ads. My preferences started to widen. Indies and underground artist can now be appreciated and easily be accessed. [habagamihan]
The internet has really opened up a new array of music. You are right that there are a lot of wonderful artists that the media never promotes but we can now see and hear them all if we choose. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
Yes, I loved the music from the 70s and 80s. Then the 90s came and...ick. Fortunately, a lot of the good new wave music is coming back. Even the music I didn't like back then like Aerosmith and some others I like now because of all the fun times with my friends. I still really hate rap music though. and for some reason country gets on my nerves although I did like it when I was about 15 for a few short months. [therealgeekmom]
I tend to steer away from the sad country songs but i do listen to it and enjoy it. As far as rap goes..there are some songs that are ok but for the most part they offend me..lol...Music is a wonderful way to bring back good memories. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
Hi Jenintn, I still listen to the kind of music as I did when I was young, and especially , I find myself are fond of them very much , much more than before. maybe because we cherish our younger age, and the time before.miss the past time. [echostone542]
Oh to be young again..I know what you mean. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
The type of music I listened to when I was little has changed slightly. I used to hate rock songs but now I'm starting to take interest in some of it. I just don't like the crazy shouting. I mainly listen to rap, r&b, and hip hop. These genre of songs are perfect for a party! [Pplaya123]
That is a great genre for a party..lol.. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
I listen to pretty much the same kind of music. My music is hip-hop, rnb and rap music mostly but i do enjoy rock and oldies sometimes. I like all types of music and respect all types because even tho i may not like one type other people might and they can connect to that type of music better then my type. [rhodesmoore]
I am respectful to everyones taste in music as well. I think it is whatever touches us that we listen to and what touches me may not be for everyone. Thanks for responding and welcome to myLot. [JenInTN]
Yeah... the genre of songs I listen to more or less remained the same. Like you, I have expanded and explored to other genres, but still prefer the ones I enjoyed when I was younger. The sad thing now is, when I was listening to them, they were like THE hottest hits in town. Now, you can only catch them on the Oldies channel! Sigh... whistle [ahgong]
ha ha ha ha ha... lol That is even worst eh? Sigh... time sure flies when you are out of school! wink [ahgong]
I don't think my taste in music has changed all that much from when I was younger although nowadays my tastes have expanded a little. I am open to a lot more music and during these times when it is so easy to download music from home and have the latest on hand very easily. I like the new stuff but some of the oldies are definitely goodies! There are classics that I will never tire of. [paula27661]
I like the new stuff too. I do tend to listen to the things listened to when I was young too though. There is a multittude of choices out there now that the interenet allows us to broaden. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
I can listen to anything BUT heavy metal IF it is not too damn loud. However when I am in my car I find the radio is usually off or else I am listening to a talk radio station or a news station. I do not follow sports too much but at times I listen to our ESPN sports station here is St. Louis Missouro. [muscles4me]
I listen to talk radio in the morning on the way to work but in the afternoon I listen to the music. I'm not much for sports radio but I have listened to it if I were going to miss a Football game I was really interested in. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
As per me music is an instrument which refreshes your mind. I like all kind of music depends on situation and my mood. Every person have their own choice, the choice which they like mostly and we listen such songs all the time whether you are young or a older person. When i listen those songs which i used to listen when i was younger than today my old memories get refreshed and i really enjoy those memories. [mmajay]
I also love the fact that some song bring back such nice memories. I agree that it refreshes your mind and it doesn't really matter what music it is as long as it means something to you. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
Hi Jenintnby It is unbelievable that you have so many responses given by your friends. When I was younger, I prefer listen to rock and it makes me feel full of energy. Now i am 20 years old, i'd like to listen to some light music and ballad. The feeling is good, just like lying on the grass and enjoy the sunshine and quiteness. I think we would enjoy different kinds of music during different period in our life. [Norah0804]
Hi Norah! This has been a very active discussion. Thanks. I think you are very right about the periods and situations in our lives having a great effect on what type of music we are listening to. Thanks for the response and take care. [JenInTN]
Yeah, my taste for music stayed. There are lot kind of music nowadays that was very good but my all time favorite still stand out in my ears. When I wake up every morning the first thing to do is go for my player and play my favorite music. [mrssator2002]
I like the some newer music too but like you, I still have the ones that I long to hear. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
yes.and for the most part it's the exact same bands too.a lot of them are still around.some of the newer bands i just can't get in to. [scarlet_woman]
It can be hard to get "into" some of the new stuff if you have an established taste. Some of the bands that I like have made comebacks but have been out of the loop for a while. I like their new stuff because it greatly resembles the stuff they used to do. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
My tastes have narrowed. I used to listen to pop, and "alternative" and also heavy stuff. I have loved Matchbox Twenty since I was 17. I am 31 now and still love their stuff. I do not listen to things like Limp Bizkit, or Marilyn Manson now though. [MB20LightsMyFire]
I think that sometimes we do tend to narrow down a band or even a particular genre when we get a little older. Sometimes we just like what we like. Thanks for responding and welcome to myLot. [JenInTN]
I still listen to the music I grew up with - 60's & 70's rock, 60's folk music and classical music. I also listen to a select few bands from the 80's and 90's, like Nirvana and Collective Soul. [donnamc]
I really liked Nirvana too. I love it when my b/f covers some of their music. I like a variety of music too. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
I have loved and listen to reggae for 30 years now. Its my favorite. Listening to some old school reggae i have found several songs that were my favorite in high school. At the time i didnt know it was reggae. So i guess i can say i loved reggae all my life. [jdyrj777]
The thing about reggae is there are so many styles of reggae. Reggae rapp, country reggae, roots reggae, blues reggae, etc. For every style of reggae it is also done in reggae. Its the beat. Its got me for sure. [jdyrj777]
i should say that, the music before when i was my teenage life is still the music that i use to listen every now and then.. it is much more nice and pleasing to me.. moreover, with those music i kind of reminisce my past with my highschool and even elementary friends.. such a way to remember the beautiful moments that passed. [doniep]
I agree with you there. It's so nice to listen to a song years down the road and remember that year, think about the people you used to listen to. It's funny how a song carries so many memories along with it throughout the years. Plus, it's nice to hear a song after it's not overplayed on the radio anymore :p [abeja_reina_1989]
It's totally true. I used to listen to Drowning Pool and Bloodhound Gang, and now I've stemmed out from that to crazy bands like Mr. Bungle and The Sleepytime Gorilla Museum. It really puts things into perspective to look back and see how much you've changed. How many of you think drugs have changed the music you listen to? lol... [jakethepspguy]
To see how far we have come and how much our tastes may or may not have changed is very interesting. Thanks for responding and welcome to myLot. [JenInTN]
Nope! I listened to pop songs when I was young, such as those boy bands like Backstreet Boys or N'Sync. But now I mostly listen to Hip Hop Music since it fits my style the most and it's the genre of music that I most enjoy listening to. But it's also good to listen to other genres of music and not just be ignorant and stick to one kind. [Jayervin]
I agree that being open to music is really good. There is so much to learn from the different genres that it can be conforming to stay with just one. Thanks for the response and welcome to myLot. [JenInTN]
I heard a story a while back that indicated that preferences for certain things--foods, music, etc., are formed at certain ages. I don't recall all the details but I'll try to recall what I can remember. Music, for example. . . According to this study, you tend to establish your "taste" for music when you are in your teens. Thus, your favorite types of music go back to what you listened to in high school. That's not to say that it's the only music you might enjoy, but it might influence what you choose to listen to in your later years. I know that I certainly tap my foot when I hear some of those "oldies" from the 80's now. It's fun to see that even my kids enjoy listening to the music with which I grew up. This study wasn't limited to music, either. They tested folks for food preferences, and even the likelihood of getting a tattoo or body piercings. Lucky for me, if you don't get a tattoo by the time you're in your mid-20's, you're not likely to go out and get one later (whew!). Same for foods. If you haven't developed a taste for something like sushi by a certain age, you might never try it in your later years. Bleah. I'm not a seafood fan at all! [bubba67]
I have also read that our tastes and personalities are determines very early in life and can greatly influence the things that we enjoy when we are older. Thanks for the interesting response and welcome to myLot. [JenInTN]
I was singing the Jackson 5 and country when i was 3-13. At 13 I got my rock n rol heart . By the time I hit my 20's I was into Heavy Metal and I played clasical music from 9-18! I stil love them all.Recently I have gotten into hip hop and Opera but I still love the music I did back when. [sarahruthbeth22]
Sounds like you are very versatile with your music. I think it's great. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
I listened to nu metal and bubblegum pop when I was younger. I don't listen to nu metal that much anymore, and bubblegum pop...well, just no. I would say that I'm more into indie and punk rock now, so I guess my musical taste changed quite a bit. [kristiekandy]
Sometimes we do grow into to other types of music. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
actually just like you i've broadened my taste. when i was a teen, i only listened to pop. then at 30, i only listened to pop and country. now for the past 20 years i've liked almost everything that comes aroundlol so, im really versetile these days. [bunnybon7]
Good for you. I think that variety is the spice of life. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
Well, I started listening to music around when I was 14, I would search the Internet for bands I liked and eventually got a huge collection of mp3s, some of the bands I listened to where pretty much unknown, especially european ones, then at some point my Hard Drive crashed and with it all the music I listened to daily and I didn't care to get it back. As I grew I started listening to more mainstream music, mainly because that's what you get to hear at parties and such, also because I no longer had free time to just spend looking for new music. Recently though, I got a hold of a CD I burned back in the day and liked it so much I started listening to the same stuff as 8 years ago, and that brought back lots of fond memories. That, and the fact that this decade's bands seem to lack in a lot of ways has me hooked on 90's and early 2000's music. [mitxel]
My b/f is not much of the mainstream fan either. He thinks that a lot of bands are just considered good because of the fact that they have been so highly promoted. He listens to less known bands and enjoys them as well. I think the mainstream bands are to a certain extent "controlled" by their promoters. That can take away from their talent. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
Well when i was younger i listened to more rap than anything, i listened to metal also but at some point rap over took metal and now about 10 years later i don't think i have listened to any rap at all. The only thing i listen to now is metal, rap just seemed to get to repetitive, they all just seem to say the same thing. but metal is all i can listen to now. [TheTwistedHero]
I think that rap is just a stage for some of us. It is repetitive to a ceratin extent. Thanks for the response and welcome to myLot. [JenInTN]
As you said, I too listen to a lot of the same music I listened to as a kid, and as a teenager, but my tastes have expanded. Never would I have thought that as an adult I would like punk, ska, grunge, or a little bit of rap and R&B. [sherrypeck19822001]
I know what you mean. There is a lot of music that as a kid I didn't think I would ever like. I'm glad I broadened my horizons. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
When I was young I listened to my fathers cassette tapes. I just happened to love that music even though he didnt listen to it around me. I listened to Queen and The Beatles all the time. From the time I was very little until I was about 20 I loved that music. Now that I'm 26 for some reason while I still like that music I prefer not to listen to it. I guess after over 20 years of listening to the same songs I got tired of it. To me a lot of the old stuff is classics so it really never goes out of style but right now I'm just more into listening to the modern stuff like taylor swift and pink etc. [shaggin]
That is one of the reasons that we open up to different music sometimes. We get tired of listening to the same things all the time but at the same time always love what we grew up listening to. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
I always listen to the same type of music as I did when I was young. When I was a young child, I liked to listen light music, and I did not like to listen rock music. Nothing has changed for 20 years for me. I like to listen to the light music when I'm on bed, and I can fall into sleep with music playing. That's so beautiful. [lullaby2005]
I think that our tastes form very early and that we often just like what we like. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
Yes, I still listen to the same type of music as I did back then (in the 80's) of course the 80's were unique and the music has changed a bit. But I am still a fan of rock and certain pop- remained a loyal fan of some bands. Tesla is one.. Rick Springfield too Of course Rock or heavy metal is a little different now. But I still enjoy that genre as well as listening to oldies. I have very eclectic tastes. I think the only thing I don't like much of is Rap and Country.. but there are still always exceptions even in those categories. [minx267]
your welcome and I agree- my roommate listens to non commercial music and i have been exposed to music I would not necessarily have listened to. and some of it is pretty good! [minx267]
My taste has changed but not too drastically. I still like the stuff I did when I was younger, but I have become more open as I've gotten older to listen to things that I wouldn't have given the time of day when I was younger. I used to only be into Pop, anything the other kids were listening to. Now, I am getting more into Rock and Country a bit. I'm really giving all kinds of music a try. My boyfriend has also opened my eyes to a lot of Asian music.. (he's Japanese) it's very nice. I'm noticing, music can be so much more than lyrics. I love hearing music in other languages even though I'm not sure what they're saying. You can still feel the emotion in their voices. [abeja_reina_1989]
Your right..it is a lot more than just the lyrics. I have heard certain tunes and have felt so inspired or moved for really no reason at all except the way the mucic made me feel. I have also been opened up to new types of music. Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
Hi Jen. My taste in music has pretty much stayed the same through the years. The only real difference is that I listen to today's music as well as the stuff from when I was a kid. happy Happy mylotting! [sacmom]
I listen to a lot of todays music too. I have also listened to a lot of music that I never thought I would..lol.Thanks for responding. [JenInTN]
hi JenInTN, I would like to share one of my favorite topics-music.My favorite was music from the 80's-new wave & pop music.Bands like culture club, duran duran, ultravox and so many more.At that time,i'm still a student and couldn't afford to buy any of it.The only way to get to The Top 40 or British chart are my transistor radio in AM mode.Wow,that really make my day with each new chart topping hits. I like rock music ,heavy metal(NWOBHM) ,Chinese music and R & B ballads,New Age as well.I guessed as i age ,my music taste slightly change.Perhaps the music categories kept expanding resulting in my change of music taste as well. Now i'm into Japanese songs, heavy metal(still no.1) & New Wave music. There's nothing much on New Wave scene nowadays,so i look for the 80's stuff but in remix/extended version. Have a HAPPY NEW YEAR 2010!! regards, david tay [tayd88]
Thank you so much for your input. Sounds like you have amazing taste in music and much like myself, your musical preferences have grown over time more than they have changed. Thanks again for the response and take care. [JenInTN]
I listen to the same type of music as I did when I was younger. I listen to classical now though, which I never would have done when I was a child. [Picquarian]
I like to think of it as "expanding" our tastes. I listen to some things that I don't think I would have liked when I was younger too. There are a few songs that I used to listen to that I laugh at myself for having liked but at the same time there is a lot of music that I still love. The majority, I still listen to. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
As of now, I don't get a chance to hear the same kind of music again and again as we have cds now-a-days and I have audio Cassettes and my walk-man is also not working. But I do get to hear a lot from my neighbors. It's a gift to stay somewhere where you can hear or listen to your favorite music. My tastes are the same. Well, those songs' tunes, lyrics had such a fervor which I feel wanting in the present times. We do need to change but you see, when it's a matter of taste, and when it's music, I can't compromise. Well, I'm talking of my native music not English as I never could develop a taste towards it since childhood. [aparajita]
Not only one or two but so many. Yes the computer is an advantage but what I do, is record some of them in my mobile when they come on the TV. I don't store them for long. Just a few days ago, I was surprised when I could sing a number from one of the old movies we chanced to browse upon. I owe my memory a lot. The tun channeled its way through my lips. [aparajita]
I actually listen to a little bit of everything now. When I was younger it was only one genre. [libby2009]
Hi libby! My tastes have expanded as well. I listened to one genre or the other when I was younger. Over time I have come to enjoy a broad range of music. Thanks for the response. [JenInTN]
