Do You Play An Instrument

Do you play an instrument? How long have you played it for? Was it your decision or did your parents push you? I play the flute and it was my mother who sent me to learn because she never did when she was younger and had self taught but only the basics. I got up to grade 5 then I left home and was too busy to continue. I ended up playing for 11 years regularly.

No, I can't play any musical instruments. I had a passion to learn to play saxophone. I like the sound of saxophone very much, and wanted to learn that. But, so far, have not been able to get to it. Hopefully some day ! [greenline]
Good luck if ever you do! I always wanted a sax [la_chique]

I play the piano. I wanted to play it and then my mom pushed me to practice all the time. then i got sick of it and quit. I still know how to play though. [xomgitskamax]
I've not played flute in a while, but I still remember how to play it. I think after a while its like ridin a bike and you dont forget [la_chique]

No, I don't play any instruments. However, I wish I did play the piano. I hope that to learn how to play the piano someday. It's something that i would really love to do and learn. [dodo19]
Best of luck if you ever decide to :) [la_chique]

I started playing guitar when I was 13, moved over to bass at 15 and then I picked up a bodhran (irish drum) when I went overseas for a while. I am really in to Irish music, so this instrument was perfect for me. Its a very simple drum to play, requires some coordination but if you can keep a rhythm and add backbeats, its a great instrument to pick. They aren't very expensive either, which is great since it also means that the upkeep is minimal. Just like with an acoustic guitar, you have to be aware of the humidity levels or the head will stretch, since most of them are made with sheep skin or goat skin. You can even get them to be tunable to get different tones. [roadkilldxh]
i also got mine in ireland, a little hole-in-the-wall music shop in dublin about 12 years ago. [roadkilldxh]

[mmmprien]
I agree totally. Thanks for sharing! :) [la_chique]

I can play the piano, tenor sax, alto sax, and the clarinet, though I don't play anymore. I gave those up a long time ago. I wanted to learn to play so my mother let me try those things out and I was active in my highschool band. It was fun for a while, then when the college corses kicked in, it got to much to handle to do all of those and study for college course while in highschool, so I let the music slide to further my education in something that could and would truely benefit me. [Jae2619]
Wow thats alot of instruments. I can see how they would have gotten in the way of studying eventually! [la_chique]

Hi lachique. I play the piano but I don't play it for years now. I don't have piano anymore so it is difficult go to a place to play the instrument you want. So I quit. I didn't had space in my apartment to the piano so I sold it. But I love the piano and I want to learn violin too. Perhaps some day LOL. Have a nice weekend. [teka44]
Thanks for your response teka! Have a great weekend too! :) [la_chique]

As a child, I learnt to play violin under my parents' request. But stopped playing when I grew up cos I found it was too noble. Since I came to secondary school, I became socialized, so I changed to play guitar and bamboo flute. Now I'm too busy, and I don't have time as well as feeling to play any instruments. In my head there're numbers, shapes, programs, and money, but few note and key. I prefer to listen than to play, and luckily, my partner with his piano is ready to serve me if he's at home. [coldmoon]

I would like to take part in some activity, becanse some of the reasons are not no time ,that is not interested in [ying470]

When I was in school, I played the clarinet and the bass clarinet. I also learned the piano a bit. Today, I don't play anything on a regular basis, but I do play a little piano when I have the chance. I don't know many songs, and it takes me a little while to remember the notes, but I can do it. My parents left it up to me whether or not I wanted to play any instruments. I have always had a love of music, so for me, it seems to come naturally. [lynnemg]

No. My grandfather taught us the basics on the piano when my brother and I were about 4 and 5. That was the last time I tried to play the piano. I wish that we could have made better progress. I admire people who can play any instrument. happyhappy [diamondrose1]

Hello La_chique...nice subject by the way :) Going back 11 years or so now my father died of cancer and left me his guitar in his will..he played in various folk bands and he sang and played guitar in them..he sounded a lot like John Denver....anyways.... I was homeless and had just been moved into a Hostel I was just turning 18 years of age...I couldn't play guitar to save my life!!! Well I thought there was no point it collecting dust so I bought myself some books and began to learn how to play....I cried because it took a while before I could get any type of sound out of the thing...I was bordering on hating it but I persevered. My fingers grew blisters on top of blisters and my fingers throbbed...it took weeks to learn a couple of chords and months before they sounded like chords. Now I play guitar have written my own songs and have played and sung in a band myself...I only wish my dad could have seen it he would be well chuffed...I admit Im not fantastic and Im a singer more then a guitarist, I think it will always be that way....I cant read music I taught myself really from listening. My advice to anyone who wants to learn...keep at it! It will sound good eventually :) xxxxx [KingJulian]

yes, i do play an instrument...it was just one of my hobbies.. i play the flute, harmonica and a bit of guitar... i just learn to play the flute by myself, by following the instructions that came with my flute.. and i was 14 when i started playing the guitar.. i am still getting to learn more about playing the guitar, i am not yet good at it though.. [cuttyrish]

Hi La Chique I play a flute, too but it's a soprano recorder w00t and I can play the guitar. I studied how to play those instruments by myself since I was in HS. I rarely play them now since I am so busy at work and I might disturb my unitmates and neighbors here in the city. I only have my recorder with me but I don't have a guitar. I only borrowed my classmate's and my cousin's guitar back then blushhappy [kissieme]

I used to play the piano. but then i got "in-active" hehe because we don't own one. LOL. :P I studied piano for 4 years during high school. :) [mkchaves]

No, not really. I used to play the Recorder and ukekalaylee in Elementary school. I was fun to learn the instruments and how to play them. [chunijole]

When I was younger, I was very musical! In high school, I was able to pick up and play several different instruments, including piano, flute, oboe, basoon and guitar! I really wish I still played, but the only one I still have acess to is the piano, and I can play that a little. I played because my Mother is a very musica person. I was not pushed to do it at all. I loved being part of the band in school. It was a great activity! I only wish now my own kids were interested, but they are not at this pont. Maybe in the future... [ljbinkop]
Wow talented! :) Thanks for your response [la_chique]

I stopped leaning in that school and was not able to find a better place with a good teacher like her. Plus I got busy with ma studies then..If I get a chance to learn piano, I definitely will [vjsinduja]

When i was a kid i wished that someday i will be a musician, funny thing.because until now i don't know how to play perfectly any instrument.Maybe because its not my gift. [thina12]

Hey there! I do play a musical intrument. I play the guitar. I started playing when I was 19 years old up until now. It was my own choice. I was inspire by others who can play the guitar. Now, I am playing well. I have done several front acts in our school whenever there is an event. I always get a roar of applause after every performance. I play the guitar the freestyle way. It's like playing the guitar the piano way. It's amazing man! I love it. [AltheGreat2430]

I used to play the drums but got fed up with it and just quit! :) I was really good but I kept missing practice so then I just couldnt be bothered and just left! [itsmauricecassidy]

I play guitar, because it is the simplest musical instrument and easy to use, it's complicated at first but once you get use to it, you can play everything. I play my guitar at night before bed time. Good melody in strings can relax me and bring me to sleep well. [mrrome]

I play the guitar and piano..badly! Sadly. I really need a music teacher. Not a fit one though. I need no distractions. I've done piano for 6 years and guitar for 5 minutes :) I broke the string..A terrible injustice in many respects. It was my decision because music is great. I'm creative by nature so it seems a logical thing to try out. Sadly I suck :) No I don't but i need a tutor to tell me off and to gimme sweets. Flute? It's a nice instrument. I did recorder in primary...for 3 minutes Goodluck [Jakker27]

[christylynn]

I play the trumpet, and have done grade 8 on it, and am working towards ABRSMdip. I have been playing for YEARSSS though, but only became properly serious about it in the last decade. I love it, it makes the most amazing noise! [GemmaR]

Hi,la_chique I play the piano and the keyboard, I have been playing both since I was in the fourth grade I started to teach myself how to play piano at first, my mom took notice and signed me up for piano lessons, I took them for a while I then stopped the lessons, but I continued to teach myself how to play, basically I play by ear and I love doing it that way. I still play by ear until this day, I am twenty seven years old now.,I love music so much I am a Gospel singer so I stay composing new music all the time, for the songs that I write. [mickey27]

I play the piano regularly. I am in love with it and it allows me to calm down after a hard day at work. I took lessons as a kid which may be why I still play today. I also played saxophone as a child however I quickly got bored by it and I quit a few years later. I think that piano is an excellent instrument to play because it like all instruments it allows you to express your emotions. Good luck and happy mylotting. [blion23]

I used to play the indian instrument veena several years ago and now I lost touch. But I am very hopeful of regaining my touch and play it again when I get the opportunity because it is such a fine instrument and I still cherish the days when I used to play it. I did not learn to play that instrument by compulsion. [cudamani]
