It's very easy to learn how to play the guitar even if there's no one to teach you. Start out how to read chords using a chart. It's easy to understand those chart, just follow those dots. There are a lot of free online lessons too. Here's a good one: http://www.8notes.com/guitar_Chord_chart/ [nocturn98]
hahahha. the problem is also i dont have a guitar with me. LOL no i know someday i can learn then how. because my kids love music also. ill just make up with them instead. [carrine]

That is one of my lifes frusterations as well. I would do anything to play the guitar. I do plan on picking it up in the upcoming months. From what I've researched, it is very rare for people to play the guitar left handed (like I do) and lessons are even harder to find....that kind of has been what has kept me away. Like I said though, by about May I would like to start so hopefully in a few years I can report to you myLotters and say I am a rockstar, or something lol [Chad525]
hhahahahah! so tell me then that time huh? dont forget to update us here on mylot friends. LOL [carrine]

Hi,carrine,I don't know how to play guitar bcz I have no interest in playing guitar. But u r different,u have the interest to learn it,keep on trying I think u can succeed and u have a nice family environment to learn playing guitar.Cheers and happy my lotting. [longsdogin]
yah thats the difference between the two of us. i know you're good of some other things though.. happy mylotting. [carrine]

Hi! Yes I do. And I'm telling you to not give up. I have short fingers too. In fact, I have to bend my whole wrist just to reach the other strings and keys as well. I think its the drive. I sing, and I write songs, so I was badly frustrated before. But hey, once you put your dedication to it, you can make it. And I agree, its true online tutorials do help. You might want to check guitartutee.com. Also, check shorter guitars. Mine's shorter so its easier for me to reach the tabs. [sweet_jette]
wow. thats so inspiring, thanks for that motivation huh? that's cool that you wrote songs, how i wish i can too. if a person can wrote a song and play an instruments, their so gifted. so keep it up. [carrine]

just like you, sista! I have a dream to play guitar too. but sadly, I couldn't play it till today. actually I can reach all the keys, but it really hurts to pick the snares. then I gave up! so sad, right? [humairaku]
hahahaha!!!! good for you that you were able to reach the strings unlike me. lol. me too i dont hate patience really to practice and i easily give up. thats why till now nothing happens. [carrine]

Yes i do. Apart from guiter, i play violin and mandolin too but not in musical program, i play for the background music of dramas. Actualy to make interesting, we add music to our dramas. Each n every members of our group can play instruments. Thanks [shibham]

used to play the guitar but never really excelled in it. never learned to read the chords but from memory learned the chords of certain songs. then shifted to bass and drums. had some level of success there. used to be part of a band but that one never really took off. lol! nice story about your dad being very good playing the guitar. it really isn't too late to learn. you can go ahead and purcahse a cheap guitar and the basic chordbook and you can teach yourself to play the guitar. if i had the extra time, i would definitely do that. lol! anyway, i think its time to clean my old dusty guitar and start teaching myself to play. that wouldn't be such a bad idea. cheers!!! [allen0187]

hihi!lol same here! I love singing and I do play guitar but the thing is, I can't finish a song without having wrong keys or weird sound in between...and I just can't play anything I want to play. I have few songs that I can play and sing with but it is not that hard to play at all. I only know the basic and it's kinda frustrating to learn more. rofl [danitykane]

I simply love the instrument. It takes me to another world when I hear the music. I've been trying to learn the guitar for quite some time now and can play a bit. I am currently on the hunt for a good teacher. I plan on becoming a good musician and I know I am going to do it soon. You can do wonders carrine. IT is all in your head. There is a man who can play the guitar with his legs.He doesn't have hands. It is all in our head. So go and win your passion. [dbeast]

Me too. That is also one of my dreams in life. I tried learning how to play the guitar in the past. My dad bought me a dark purple colored guitar, though I'm not a fan of the color purple but it looks nice. I bought "Learn How to Play the Guitar" books and cds. I tried learning on my own. I already managed to play simple songs like Leaving on a Jetplane and Breakfast at Tiffany's. But after a few months, I gave up because I have short fingers and I find it difficult to reach some keys. Now my purple guitar gathers dust in my room. So sad. [themisfit]

It's not really about the size of your fingers or what hand you use, it's about technique. A good teacher (not the internet, book or amateur) would help you play and overcome your self perceived short comings. Yes I played and taught but don't now - got bored with it. [3honor]
hahaha!!! really? not the size of my fingers is the hindrance? i think thats one of the main reasons. because the first reason is i dont have my own guitar really. so i cant play it anytime i want. [carrine]

hi carrine, i can play the guitar...but only when i'm in the mood to do so...lol...other times i can't...its only the keyboard that i can play always... if you wanna play the guitar...it doesn't really matter if you have long or short fingers...its only the confidence you have in you...just trust yourself and keep practicing...and you'll get it one day for sure... [vnrsudhan]
wow you can play keyboard. thats cool and interesting. yah i know one day i can play guitar and the keyboard as well by the help of my kids i think. hahahaha [carrine]

I can play a few chords. My frustration is that I can't switch to an F chord. I so want to learn how to play a riff on my electric guitar. Oh, and to play Iron Man by Black sabbath! [ellimac]

I don't play guitar , I like to play piano. I took the formal training of this and many times I gave performance in concert . Music is my passion i cant stay withou it. Every musical instrument i like. once I tried to play the guitar but my comfort level is on piano so i started practise on piano [deependra_gem]

i want to play guitar too..anyone can teach me?? [nudra_aken]

I have the same problem that you have. It's a huge frustration not knowing how to play guitar. If I have time this year I'll give it another shot. [monngnr]

playing the guitar is farely easy its understanding the frets and the tune of each string it really doesn't matter how short you fingers are for instance I taught my friends little brother to play for his talent show. Basically u have to take your time and you will get the hang of it take care happy playing tunes :) [djnz69]

I do not play guitar, but I would like to learn. I find it a very interesting and beautiful instrument. It sounds so clear and i know that it is the most difficult instrument to learn, so I absolutely adore it. [pcserver]

I do want to play the guitar as well. I've tried to learn how to play the guitar however even if I love music and was eager to learn how to play it, it ended up with nothing. So I always ask my girlfriend since she knows how to play a guitar (Lucky and talented). But she always says if she can do it why cant i? so up to now, I am still trying to learn and remember the chords of the guitar. I know the feeling when someone play the guitar and there's an image inside my head that i am imagining my self playing the guitar. My dreams...until now, i am still dreaming.... [scja16]

Hi carrine, I do play the guitar and i am familiar with the chords and keys. But i am not very good with timing and strumming. My mother taught me the basics when i was around 8 years old and i tried to learn the rest by myself. [Gareth126]

i can play guitars. but i still have to depend on chords. i mean i can play guitars with chord chart so that i have something to look at while playing so i can figure out what will be my fingers do while playing it. i mean, if there is no chord chart to look at with, i can not play continuously. but there are those minor keys that i have successfully memorized so no need for the chart. [neildc]
thats a good start i think. so keep on practicing and memorizing the keys and the chords. no reason you cant master those stuff. because in my case i dont have the patience to practice it and i have this problem really that i cant reach the strings on top because i have short fingers. grrrrr [carrine]

used to but then it got to hard [jarbaz]
so you're like me, no patience on that thing also. soo goodluck to both of us. hahahaa [carrine]

Dang. Boys who play guitar are just so much hotter. ;) Hehe. I don't play guitar with a real teacher and everything, but my brother does. I can play a few songs, but it's not like I work at it. I have nice long fingers and really stretchy hands, which is also good for the piano and violin, instruments that I do play. I think I might take my brother's guitar in the summer and learn some new songs. :) [rainbowbunnyz]

i really love to play the strings of the guitar, i enjoy playing the guitar [binagupta]

My husband does and I envy him for that. He tried to teach me to play but we do have the same problem, I have short fingers too and can't make some keys right due to that. Lol! I'm really hoping that my future kid would have longer fingers than mind so that he could play the guitar together with his dad. [shello]

Hi, Carrine ... I've been playing guitar for 12 years now and I tell you, it's not really that hard to play it. What you need are just getting used to it and put some passion (really feel it) on your playing to get the 'depth' of it. The first timers always get difficulties in pressing the strings to get clear sounds, they say it hurts their fingers, but it's no problem. If you keep practising in an hour or so from day to day, I'm sure you'll get over it (but remember : don't let your fingers get too tired). Here are a few tips, so you can learn it easily : 1. Learn to get clear sounds first. 2. Learn to move your fingers slightly from chord to chord (begin it with simple chords first, such as C > Em > Am, etc.). Take it slow if it's needed. 3. Remember your left arm position, it plays an important part and it will help you a lot if you have short fingers (Jack Thammarat, guitar idol winner, also has short fingers, so, having short ones don't matter, it's about how we use them). 4. Think about the song that you want to play, don't think too much on the chords. Hope it works for you ... [Bram77]

guitar playing was also one of my frustrations in life. i tried learning it by myself as there were relatives who, used to live with us then, have books and chord charts. but my dad sold the guitar without a word. so i lost the drive to learn it. well, when i joined a band more than a decade ago, it sparked that longing to learn guitar but, again, i never learned it because our guitar players were so busy that they can't find time to teach. huhuhu... [danzekiel]

Hi Carrine, Yes i play guitar. We have a guitar at home. having a short and chuuby fingers is my concern too but i can play the guitar well. i love it with the nylon strings. my husband and i love playing the guitar and singing together. even during the courtship stage, as friends we love singing with him playing the guitar. [msfrancisco9369]

I dun play guitar, but i always wanted to learn too!! iT seems fun to me, as well as being so cool!! Especially when one can be composing their own songs, and have a nice voice to sing along too!! lol =D Too bad, i have a bad voice, and i'm a lefty, which makes it even harder for me to learn, because none of my frenz are lefty!! hehe [kun2349]

No but I play the piano and even a little harmonica. [K46620]

I'll agree with you on that! I do play the guitar, but not as good as I want to be! I know the basic chords and I can play quite a few song tunes, in fact, I modified them to suit to my skills, haha. But I guess you need a lot of time to practise to get better, needs passion and will. I still dream that some day I will get real serious and learn to play the guitar. [GreenGiant]

I think guitar is a very fun instrument to play. The hard part for me is remembering to practice every day. I mean, if someone doesn't remind me, I would probably loose my guitar under a sheet of dust. Short fingers really just means you might have to move your hand more often to reach five frets and might have some trouble playing some chords, which shouldn't be a problem unless you are playing jazz. [tman555]

Yes,sometimes when I'm alone in the house.I love singing and strumming guitar. It is my one way of releasing stress.Have a nice day. [Hazelrose]

i love playing guitar, i do that during my free time. Don't be discourage learning to play it. To me learning how to play a guitar is like learning a new language, you start with the basics like saying hi and hello ( basic open chords) then progress to more advance things as you go on learning, don't skip a thing because you will be rewarded in the end :) [coopher]

We were required to learn the basics in high school because of music class, but then I stopped because I didn't have a guitar and my fingers hurt after long practices. But I did learn how to read guitar tabs though, and I'm better at plucking than strumming. It'd be cool if I learned how to read notes like in classical guitar. :D [kokowit]

everyone can learn to play the guitar. short fingers should not hinder you from learning to play. i learned to play when i was still in elementary, my father taught me how to. and i still play with him if we got to jam with the band here in out community. Music is a good thing to pass on to your kids. good luck in finding a guitar teacher and keep your heart to music! [basqui]

Yes i do ... and i learned my self coz there's no one want to teach me ( they're busy ... hahaha) , i have short fingers too ~ ^^ just try a few chord n play the music you like ( soft music recommended ) ^^, Try your best Okay while time is ticking ~ goodluck [Noth1ng]

haha.. we share the same sentiments... i just get so envious with those people who are very good in playing guitar! my brother bought me years ago when i told him i was interested but it ended up in the storage room.. haha.... Likewise, no one's around to teach me... My father used to play as well but he doesn't know how to read chords... ^_^ though i wasn't able to learn, my guitar impression remains... ^_^ [jd107nette]
