Do you prefer watching concerts live as they happen? Or, do you watch concerts when they are on television? Why would you prefer a live concert to watching it on television?
I've never been to a live concert, so I am sure it's an experience that would compare to no other. When I was a teen, there were many bands that I longed to see live in concert. Just yesterday I saw Aerosmith do a concert performance for the Fashion Rocks awards show on television. And, even though I am sure it would have been better to have been there live and in person to witness the event, it was still very nice.
Awhile back I saw a little bit of Madonna's stage show concert on HBO and it seemed very contrived and fake. I guess it was supposed to be theatrical. To me, her voice sounds so much better when recorded than live. Maybe the live concert would be more entertaining for the senses.
What do you think of concerts on television?

I seldom watch concerts on tv I would much rather be at one. I'm a big country music lover...obviously...lol. There is a lot missing when your just watching it on tv. [ctrymuziklvr]
It depends who it is and whether it's sitting or standing I like to see live music but standing for hours can be exhausting and unless you really want to see the artist it often isn't worth it, you get pushed around in the crowd etc. Watching live gigs recorded from the comfort of your own home is often a more enjoyable experience. I have never been to a love concert. I always watch a live concert on TV. I think that it would be great to be at a live concert, but the fee is too expensive for me. I still prefer watching on TV though. lol [williamjisir]
I don't usually watch concerts on the TV.. When u watch it on the TV, u get a good shot of whats happening on stage, but.. u can't get the same atmosphere... that's impossible to get through the screen ^_^ [Bardock]
Hi Beautyqueen, I much prefer watching concerts live, since the atmosphere is so exciting. I have never watched an entire concert on television because I get bored with it really quickly. I think most performers sound better recorded than live. I don't get how half of them even have careers they sound so awful live. lol [acuityplague]
I prefer to watch concerts live as you can't match the atmosphere of a live concert from home. I do still enjoy watching concerts from home though if it's a band that I particularily like and can't get tickets for it. [spaceboyfox]
I,ve been to a lot of concert and I really like to see live concert. You have all the emotion of the people there. My first show was Bon Jovi when I was 13-14 years old. It was so great. I felt like I wasnt really there ad that I was dreaming. Since I'm with my boyfriend, I've been to a lot of show with him and it,s always great. We always have ticket on the floor. At all the show I've seen, I've been dissapointed only one time and it was because I didnt saw a thing of the show lol But it was the second time I was seing the band (Evanescence) and I went to see them after and I was at the perfect place that time. i love watching concerts but ive never seen a live once coz i cnt afford it at the moment... so i dont have a choice but to watch it in television... but its not that good coz they used to edit it and cut the other part [jHoEn16]
When I was young, I used to love to go to live concerts. The drive was fun, the food seemed fun, the music was really cook and for awhile not too loud, the people were into it and fun, too. Now the drive is too far, the food is too greasy, the music is too loud and the people seem to be often high or rude. So now I'm older, I like concerts on TV better. Also, when I was young, they were five to ten bucks, now 25 is cheap and 40$ is more like it. But I remember when concerts were fun and cheap to watch in person. [writersedge]
I don't mind watching concerts on tv but i would rather be there in person if i could afford to go. I have been to a few back in the day and seldom watch anything on tv nowadays. If I had a choice and money wasn't an issue, then a live concert would be so much better. The last one I saw was Janet Jackson in New Zealand. [maddysmommy]
Sitting, standing, it doesnt matter. Nothing beats live music. I attended my 1st concert at 12yrs old and have been hooked ever since! I love how you hear the artists "true" voice in concert. =) [Meownia]
yes, i agree. I also like the spontinaity [ESKARENA1]
I much prefer watching concerts live but since I couldn't afford buying expensive tickets, I just watch it on tv. [ericajoyce]
Can I choose the "neither" option? Heh. I'm a little bit of a claustraphobic, and being around masses of people always freaks me out a bit and makes me feel really uncomfortable. I feel closed in and pressured and hate those situations completely. So if I had to choose either, I'd choose to watch from home. But then that's kind of boring too, so if I had to choose anything, I'd choose to never see a concert heh. [dArtagnan]
I prefer to watch from my TV. It is more relaxing for me. Especially when it come to safety. [nyumix]
I prefers watching concerts live.I have been to a few and the situation is different. We have got the feel of live concerts and its really entertaining..its depends on who concerts its is.The hyper people and i like it where people sing along during the conserts. Its shows that we enjoyed it.Watching at home is so much different but im okay with that too.Via Television, there's not much noise from peoples..we have our own space.haha [dianagnes]
I'd take a live show in person any day over watching it on tv. The atmosphere of a live show is great. To be surronded by a bunch of other fans singing along to their favourite songs. To be up close so to speak to one of your favourite artists is another element, along with hearing the instruments clearly if you are up close to the stage. Having said all that I'd still watch a concert on tv - artists who don't come/haven't come to Australia yet; Artists I'd never afford to see if they did come; my favourite artists who I'd watch/listen to in almost any form. [twistedangelwings]
IM torn, i prefer the excitement of a live concert but prefer the comfort of watching a concert on tv. I feel im getting a bit old now but in the late 70s i was out there every weekend [ESKARENA1]
I prefer watching concerts live as they happen but it depends on my budget. It is really quite an experience but it can also be real expensive. [brew2x]
Hi there. Although I prefer to go to live concerts, because live music cant be beaten... I do and have enjoyed watching them on television as well... [Nardz13]
There are definite advantages to see something live, like when my husband and I went to see RiverDance live, we had watched it on video many many itmes, but even from the back row of the small theater, it was still a very awesome experience, and one I will remember....Live beat the tape any day. I have seen a handfull of concerts live and they are awesome beyond belief. But live is often expensive. Many can not afford to go to live concerts so we settle for DVD and TV I am hoping and praying that once in my life I will be able to see George STrait Live. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]
Well i would enjoy watching concerts live.but the price of the tickets are sometimes too high or you cannot often go for live concerts.but tv is not that bad you can enjoy being at home at the same time not miss the concert.your view that recorded voice sounds better is not new.but i think in the live concert you get into the actual ambience [murkywaters]
I prefer to stay at home and watch the concert from TV. We seldom will attend to the live concerts outside. Because the tickets are expensive and hard to be bought, and we also have to arrange time to go there. And usually we have to work next day, so it'll be fine to watch it from TV. It doesn't matter. [youless]
If I could afford it, I would prefer live concerts. They are longer and a lot more fun than those you see on television. Television concerts are okay, but I just feel that you miss so much if they are your only concert experience. [TeresaK]
I don't watch concerts on tv. I think they are boring. lol I might listen to one, if I am doing something else, but that's it. I used to go to concerts quite often before I got married. I lived close to Branson, Missouri, so there were always lots of concerts to see. It wasn't just old has been musicians, either. :) Most of the concerts I went to were Christian. I saw Jars of Clay a couple of times, Audio Adrenaline and DC Talk each three times, and a few other bands once or twice. I think the last one I went to was in 2004. It was before my husband and I started dating. Now we live in North Dakota, so even if we had a babysitter, the only concerts we would be able to attend would be the ones at the state fair. :) [carlaabt]
I'm not really a fan of concerts on television, though I guess I would watch them once in awhile if bands I enjoy are performing. I love live concerts, and seeing it on tv just doesn't really compare. A concert is so much more than what you get on the screen. The atmosphere and being totally immersed in the music, place, and people is part of the experience. Even just being somewhere with live music from a band or performer you've never heard of is still pretty fun and a change from the atmosphere of recorded music. However, when you're unable to attend (like me, with no money), on the screen can be a decent replacement. [nerdytina]
hello beautyqueen26, I prefer attending live concert than watching concerts on television. Its fun to watch a live concert but it depends if I really like the artist. It's exciting and you'll feel the energy of the artist along with the crowd. Unlike when you watch it on television its already edited and its not quite the same as watching it live. :-) [eprado]
There is nothing like going to a Live concert- and having Great seats! It is soooo much better than watching them on TV. I have been to several concerts- I love it- the rush—being in the same room with the star- It's great- I watched Kenny Chesney (my favorite singer) in concert several times—and I've seen him on TV- each time I watch him on TV- I long to go see him Live again!
