Do You Still Own 8 Tracks, Lps, Casettes, Vhs, Or Beta Max

Or have you gone totally modern with CD's, DVD's, and Laser disc. Come on don't be ashamed of the fossils you are still holding on to. I still have some cassettes and VHS tapes. I don't know what happened to all my records, but I would have loved to have kept some of the classics. I never owned an 8 track, I think they went out before I got into music. Hey, how about a phonograph or a reel to reel. I remember in grade school we watched films on a projector. My sister had went on a boot ride for a school field trip and I saw the film on the projector. It was so weird seeing my sister on that screen.

I still have a number of LPs and a turntable though I don't listen to them very often. There are some LPs which still haven't come out on CD...I used to buy a lot of records and some of them were fairly obscure...and I hang on to them for that reason (and, to be honest, for the nostalgia...I enjoy my CDs but I loved LPs with their artwork and warm sound.) I still own VHS tapes as well...I still use my VCR to tape TV shows occasionally...especially when they put Grey's Anatomy up against CSI this year...though I have replaced most of my favorite movies with DVDs. [MKWillis]
I still have lps, 45's, 8-tracks, mini discs and of course CDs. You are right you can't beat an lp for cover art. My favorites include the 1969 Santana debut and Abraxas covers, and most of Uriah Heap, Grateful Dead, Oingo Boingo and Yes. I still buy lps, cassettes and 8-tracks through a small place called The Music Locator http://www.themusiclocator.com And like you, I still have VHS tapes too, but some have developed a white mold or fungus which I have heard can damage your heads. [cobbcountyjoe]

Yeah. I still have a lot of cassette tapes and video tapes. I am trying to get them all converted to c.d. or buy them all on dvd and cd [Shaun72]
My friends had rented something from rent a center to do this with video tapes. Now cassetes I don't know. I have just bought or made my own cd's and bout my own dvd's to replace some of them when I had the money. [Shaun72]

i own some cds, cassettes, and vhs.but i listen to my cds more though out of all of them. [jdw1971witch]

I still kept my collections of cassettes and VHS tapes which include our wedding though I have a plan of converting it to cd or dvd.We still have the Beta Max though it's not working, has some defective parts already. I also experienced watching film in a projector, black & white. It's nice looking at them in a corner because it reminds of how technology had gone far and sometimes I still play my cassette tapes. [lyndee22]
Oh, you must have your wedding converted. Something that important is priceless. I remember that the Beta Max didn't do very well at all. Although quite a few people purchased then, they quickly realized they had gotten a raw deal. [Rozie37]

I have alot of VHS tapes I use to like to buy alot of movies. Now days buying movies are sometimes pointless because they play so many movies on cable or satelite tv. It does not take very long for movies to come on tv anymore. I do still have some casette tapes however my tape player died along time ago. I never owned an 8 track player or an phonograph, I had a record player I have only one 3 records in my life. [msjigga]
Thanks for the best response. [msjigga]

I still own a casette tape. It was the first album of my favorite band (The Calling) and until now im still keep it. I still also owns a portable walkman and my mom still keeps her very old stereo which is i guess already 30 years old [jhacky016]
That's cool. I still have a lot of casettes, but I have them packed away, so they are a hassle to get to. I still have a portable walkman also, but I never use it. [Rozie37]

I never owned any 8 tracks, but do have some 33, 45 and 78 LPs, plus some old cylinder records (80 yrs old, or so I'm told). I'm trying to convert all of my cassettes to digital. As for my VHS tapes, they were all lost in a super typhoon. [wolves69]
For the life of me, I can't remember the term for them. They were made by Edison Records. The last I looked, they were worth about $20 or $30. However, if you had the original sleeves, they'd be worth a little fortune. I don't even know where we got them or who gave them to us, but they sit in the closet. Maybe when I get my own house and can live a more normal life, I'll try to find a player and restore it. Its amazing to show the young'uns what records were. The baby then tries to put a CD on the turn-table!!! That got my Dad rolling with laughter. The oldest got a kick when you put a 45 on the turn-table with the speed of a 78! For the rest of the day, they were sounding like a hoard of chipmunks! Dad had to remind me that I did the same thing... [wolves69]

I own only 1 lp which is jennifer rush - the power of love on casette i have take that - everything changes(album) sean mcguire - suddenly (single) kylie minouge - i should be so lucky (album) michael jackson album i think its called dangerous and i have 2 jason donovan albums from years and years ago lol all the rest i have as cds. [michelle23uk]
Ha, I use to have the Michael Jackson, "Dangerous" casette, but I believe I sold it or threw it away when I first became a Christian. [Rozie37]

I have for the most part totally gotten into the cds,mp3s,dvds stage. But I do have some old cassettes lying around. Im in the process of transferring all my music onot mp3s. Coz the convenience they offer of about 150 tracks in 1 cd cannot be compared with cassettes which used to have a max of 20 songs. [bindishah]

yes i still have a lot of those... and it is more easy to handle them than the cds and mp3s. [roniroxas]

No, I don't have these old things even floppy disks or CDs (I stll have CDs, but I use them very few and rare), now I use only DVDs and Flash drives [richux]

I still have tons of cassettes and I have a fair amount of VHS's AND at my mothers there should still be some of my LP's as well actually but then again who knows about that one....she might have gotten rid of them for all I know..I hope not cause I'd actually like to get them back at some point....As for a reel to reel...we actually have a vintage one and I do remember at one point owning some 8 Tracks as well but I've not seen them in yrs so I really dont know whta happened to them...and last summer I had some phonograph records and was looking for a working Victrola but ended up selling the records instead.... I love the old stuff myself....as much as I love todays technology...I like the older stuff not because it brings back memories for me of certain happy times (which are rare for me) but they also are such a great reminder of what life USED TO be like before we all became antisocial robots and slaves to hi-tech ya know.... [Ravenladyj]
I know exactly what you mean. we have definitely become anti-social because of new technology and it bothers me sometimes. It seems to me that the more we improve on ways to communicate, the less we are able to communicate. [Rozie37]

I have only cds and dvds, I did have a ton, like hundreds of cassette tapes until last year when I moved I gave them away, I hadn't listened to them in years and though they hold fond memories I didn;t feel like lugging them tot he new place, so someone came and took them off y hands, hopefully they are now being used rather than neglected [michelemri]
Go for you. I wish I had the discipline that you have for letting go of things. [Rozie37]

I do still have them but they are nicely put away in boxes in the basement. I will definately keep them, u never know what will happen in the future [Marie2473]

I still got my VHS.Sometimes I use it to tape some great show on my satellite tv.I think we can still keep it.After sometime it became Antique and we can make it as inheritance for our grand children. [rudz006]

I have a lot of cassettes, and I have albums of Elvis that belonged to my mom. I can't give those up. I used to have a few 8 tracks when I was a teenager, but cassettes came out then and I got rid of them all. I have a few VHS tapes that I wasn't able to get rid of at a yard sale last year, but I don't have VCR anymore, just a DVD player. [KatieS]

I still own a ton of LP's and 45's, as well as casette tapes. And my movie collection is mostly VHS. My parents have some 78 rpm records dating back to the 40's. I have slowly replaced some of those with DVD's and CD's. I had a reel to reel tape recorder from 1970, but it qiut on me so I pitched it a few years back. I didn't own any 8 tracks, but my brother did. I still have a movie slide projector that shows individual slides. I also live in a cave with rabbit ears on my black and white TV...lol. [sigma77]
On my, I sure hope you are kidding about the cave, and black and white television. I read an article not to long ago about people who lived in caves and were refusing to leave, even though their government had built normal housing for them. [Rozie37]

I still have VHS tapes and I have no idea what to do with them. They are cartoons and movies my brother and I used to watch when we were kids. A lot of them are Disney movies so there is a lot of money invested in them. What do I do with them? [jbb316]
Since the cartoons back then were a lot more wholesome than they are now, I feel comfortable with telling you to maybe give them to the children in your family. This is what I do if I buy a Disney movie that I think I may want to keep forever. I always end up giving them away to some of the children in my family. I have eleven nieces and nephews, so I can always find someone who is age appropriate for the movie. [Rozie37]

We still have a ton of VHS tapes, but I am going to be getting rid of most of them soon. We just don't watch it, we don't watch any DVD's either though. We also still have casette tapes, though we never listen to them either. lol I collect 45s, but I don't know where my collection is now. We also have 8 track still, though we have no way to play them. I want a lot of the music from them and then maybe if we can do that we can get rid of them. I imagine we still have some regular records around here somewhere too. [Penguinsangel]
Yes and no Some I want to keep others I will get rid of cause we are planning a couple yard sales this summer and have a lot we want to rid ourselves of. [Penguinsangel]

Yes, I still have some casettes and VHS tapes. I was just going through some of my casettes tape the other day. I still have a VCR as well. [alexsis]

I still have a ton of VHS movies. I never watch them anymore however as it is all DVD now. I am actually going to try and sell my VHS movies on Ebay. cheers, [golfproo]

Yes, Rozie37, I am not ashamed to admit that I still have a collection of cassette music and a collection of VCR tapes. I mainly hold on to them because I still have 2 vcr's and my stereo has cassette decks. I will not buy one without cassette decks. I've never burned a DVD or CD in my life, so I just hold onto what I've got. This way I have the best of all worlds. [worldwise1]
I was just kidding about the being ashamed part. I still have two stereos with double casette players and a whole lot of casettes. I also have a VCR with plenty of videos. Some people can afford to buy everything on DVD or CD, but I will only buy my favorites. [Rozie37]

I still have some 8 tracks (they were my parents I keep them for sentimental sake), I have all of my boyfriends old records (sentimental yet again). I still have most of my cassettes from childhood. I have my parents entire movie collection which are on VHS and Beta (before DVDs were affordable-otherwise my parents would have had tons of DVDs like me-I have almost 500 and have only been collecting for 3 years-I love my movies). I haven't all of them to dvd yet. Someday I might lol. Most of my own movie collection is now on DVD and CD format. I remember watching film strips in school. I think in high school my school district finally upgraded to VHS lol. [mahmah]
My friends joke with me all the time about "the collection" a few of my friends said at the very least I should open a movie rental store. I would love to have my own rental store. [mahmah]

I have CDs, DVDs, but not Laser disc. I have lots of cassettes and love them; I can pick them up for next to nothing in thrift shops; I mean classic tapes! I can also pick up VHSs for next to nothing in these charity shops as they are called over here in fair England. I've never owned an 8 track, but I used to tape 8 tracks onto tape way back when. We had a phonograph and a cine-camera and projector when I was a kid. Those were the days! [CarlHalling]

I still keep my cassette tapes, and some VHS and betamax videos. With our VHS and betamax vids, we can no longer play them though because our player's busted. I get to play my cassettes. Most of them are still in good condition. [MariaD]

i still have some vhs and audio tapes.i've been meaning to transfer format. i did get rid of my 8-tracks some time ago. [scarlet_woman]

I remember seeing films on projector too. I used to have a few 8 tracks. Mostly I still have LP's and cassettes. Also have a few 45's somewhere. We have quite a few VHS tapes. It's amazing how quick technology has changed over the last 25 years or so. [melanie652]

I have plenty of casettes, vhs and betamax tapes at home. I buy all those which I like and still kept them even now that I have them on cd and dvds. I got a few lp but not sure what 8 tracks are. [omega007]

I love VHS tapes and they are really cheap! I just got a box of a hundred tapes for like $40.00! I have ALOT of movies and I still use and buy VHS tapes, My sons movies are all on VHS because he has a hard time taking care of the DVD's I no longer have cassettes because they are hard to find and all of mine broke. My dad has a bunch of 8tracks, But no player I think those are harder to find. I do have records though I collect them I really love the old mint obnes that have never been opened! Like a steve miller band original I picked up [flagbabygirl]

I don't have any 8 tracks, my husband has a few lps, but we don't play them...we have scads of VHS and cassette tapes. We are slowly trying to replace the videos that we have with DVDs..... but now its getting to the point that buying movies on DVD is cheaper than buying them on video. Mooch [oneandonemakesix]

I still own LPs, Cassettes, VHS and Beta Max. I collect Mariah Carey Memorabilia so I have some of her albums and videos in the first three formats. I have some Betamax tapes still since we engaged in a video rental a long time ago. [crazy4mc]
Glad to know that you like her music. :) [crazy4mc]

I still have my cassettes and some VHS in my room. I don't really know what to do with them already since my VCDs and DVDs and CDs are all piled up in my rack. The "fossils" that I have are hidden under my bed in a paper bag. [marababe]

I still have cassette tapes and a walkman to go with these. Original CDs are quite expensive so I either have the songs burned at an internet cafe or copied in the cassette. [lvap0628]

I still have most if not all of my cassettes although I haven't listened to them in years and years. I still have vinyl records and actually still buy some at a used cd/record store and at a record/cd fair that happens a couple times a year year. I absolutely love vinyl. As much as I love all my modern gadgets and surrond sound and subwoofers, there is just something I love in the sound of vinyl. We still actually have an old movie projector as well. My Uncle would actually put on movie nights a couple of times a year from when we first brought one up until he died back in 2001. My mother wanted to sell it after he died I managed to convince her to keep it so it is currently stored in our garage until I'm in a place where I can set it up myself. Some of my fondest memories involve those movie nights. I remember watching Titanic on it in the comfort of my Uncle's house with a friend while others were in cramped movie theatres watching it. :D There was one place here that rented out the current movies for the projector. I hope it still exists. I'm caught in a world of extremes. Technology surronds me and I really do love it but I find something more magical and beautiful in those old mediums. [twistedangelwings]

I still have VHS tapes of shows that I cannot bring myself to give up. These are of shows that I love so much. I found a tape with some songs that I used to sing but I cant give it up even though I do not have anything to play it in. [takkea]

I have some cassettes that I'm holding on to until I can replace them. I also have alot of movies on VHS that we are currently working on replacing with DVD's. I wasn't going to replace the VHS but the quality is alot better on DVD's...also with proper care the DVD's should last indefinately. My hubby used to have a big box of albums that we had hauled through 4 moves and finally decided to get rid of. My dad has alot of 8-tracks and still listens to them lol. LOL [twoey68]

i have vhs, cassette tape. i have the chance to experience phonograph. :) [singlepixel]

Hi Rozie!! I have one machine which contains both of DVD and VCR too. It is so convenient for me. So i can watch movie in both kind of these and it doesn't waste much room either. [becuttieusa]

Still have a lot of Vinyl particularly 12" singles from the late 70s and 80s. Most never made it to CD, which is why I've been recording them to MP3 and CD. Still have some 8 track--- just to look at and occasionally have a good laugh. Still have some VHS---- And some of these movies are STILL not on DVD. I mean (Not being sarcastic) I LIKED Ishtar. I thought it was funny as hell. (Unfortunately most people expected a serious movie and were disappointed.) [pallidyne]

Hi!!I have numbers of LP,tapes, cassettes and VHS tapes!!I prefer that old technics!!Try to save DVD for more than 35 years like I saved mine LP or VHS!!Regards Silvana [aaidjs]

I do still own a bunch of VHS in a cabinet here at home. Mom still have some cassettes and VHS ones as well. I have a nice collection, but stick to watching stuff on DVD though. I may convert them in time or just have my VCR along with DVD for them. [Savvynlady]
I do not know anything about converting the VHS to DVD. I have heard of it, but I do not know how it is done. Can it be done on a DVD VHS combo or does it have to be done professionally? If so, is it expensive? [Rozie37]
