I've had the same basic music playlist on my profile for centuries it seems. So thought anyone who visits my profile must be fed up with my "Gladiator" theme that I have....no I haven't eliminated it, it's still there...but I decided to change things around a bit, and add things that reflect my Native American background. I happen to love the contemporary Native American musician Robbie Robertson who used to be a member of the rock group The Band and is of the Mohawk Native American nation. Some years ago, he did the music for a Native American documentary simply entitled Native Americans. I have the CD of the soundtrack and LOVE the music from it.
Well lo and behold I was kinda bored....LOL. I wanted to add something to my rather stale playlist and when I went over to check things out, yikes I found a whole bunch of tracks from that soundtrack...including the Ancestor song which is toward the end of my playlist if you want to hear real authentic old time Native American type music. Then not content enough, I searched for Walela...the Native American group consisting of the Coolidge women...that is Rita Coolidge, Priscella Coolidge and Laura Satterfield who are of Cherokee blood and have their own CD of which of course I have. In this CD is the song Amazing Grace sung in Cherokee. That song, Amazing Grace became the song sung during the Trail of Tears when the Cherokees were forced from their homeland in the southern area of the USA and forced to march thousands of miles to the designated "Indian Territory"---mainly the Oklahoma area of the US--many died on route going to their new home...so this song has a special meaning to the Cherokee people. Anyway I include that in my "new" additions to my playlist as well as included a few Coldplay songs...what a mix, no? Heehee
So those of you who have playlists on your profile....do you change it every once in awhile? Do you like going to people's profiles and listen to the kind of music they are into?? Does it give you a better insight to your on-line friends of their tastes? I have to admit...I'm sometimes really surprised by some people's playlist and what kind of music they are into.

responses and comments:
I have not changed my playlist no, but then I like all the songs that I have on it, I have a wide range of tastes when it comes to music. I do need to update it as I have a few new faves I would like to put on it. I do like to browse through others lists from time to time see what sort of thing they like. [gemini_rose]
I sometimes get a kick out of people's playlists Just when you think you know the personality of a person and think you know what kind of tastes they might like, they surprise you. [pyewacket]
I might add a few news songs to mine ever so often or just mix them up some. At times I like to set it up to play random and not just from the first song on down. [tyc415]
Heehee...I see from your playlist you like a lot of country western. I have always loved that song "I Wanna Know What Love Is"---never knew Wynonna Judd had a version of it--I don't know why but ever since I heard that song it makes me teary-eyed.cry [pyewacket]
Just wanted to tell you how much I appreciated your list and the history you told. I don't have playlist in mine but it sounds like fun. Thanks again Pye. BTW: I also enjoyed the "Charlie" flick! [mechanicNOT62]
ABSOLUTELY! I didn't have the slightest idea that it would relate to a disease and I thought the video was excellent! So kudos to you for your concern and successful effort! [mechanicNOT62]
I don't have a playlist, and I don't bother to put on my speakers, so don't listen to anyone else's playlist. I keep the radio on all day. [BarBaraPrz]
I have very broad tastes in music. [BarBaraPrz]
You helped me with mine, remember? I've pretty much kept it the same since then. I've added a few songs and deleted some others in the beginning, but I have kept these the same. [OreoCookie3]
Yup--I remember me helping you there...LOL [pyewacket]
Hi pye, I never get fedup of listening to that music wheneve I visit your profile but the Native American is brill, I have to go and listen, thanks. Bright Blessings. Tamara [tamarafireheart]
Aww--thanks...glad you like it. I just added that playlist to those "other" sites we belong to...LOL [pyewacket]
I have learned about some great performers by checking out others playlists. And sometimes I have pure rock on mine and other times love songs and right now I have Lady Marmalade by Pink. Get stuff! [celticeagle]
Wow I never even though to google a line from a song....doh [pyewacket]
Awww Sweets I love it...LOVE IT Anything Native American is always great for me I have blood from a great medicine man my heart aches for what The People went through at the hand of other human beings... xoxoxoxoxo [raydene]
LOL--I often wonder what my neighbors must think when I play my Native American music...they must think I have a powwow in here...Heehee I love both the contemporary music by Native American musicians and the very traditional kind....the traditional kind with the drumbeat feels like a heartbeat, doesn't it? [pyewacket]
Hey Pye! Very interesting! Now I will have something to do late at night when I'm finished mylotting! I can go listen to your newest playlist! I happen to love Rita Coolidge! I will definitely be interested to hear some of this music. I like to listen to peoples playlists! It is interesting to see what kinds of music they have! I don't know how to do that so I guess no one will ever know what I like and boy would they ever be shocked at what I would but on there! It would definitely confuse everyone who might think that they "know" me even a little! There would be some Ne-Yo, Beyonce, Aerosmith, and who knows what else! [Opal26]
yup...I've always been a fan of Rita Coolidge....she's been around a long time...I even just added a Buffy Ste. Marie song..she's an "oldie" too...LOL [pyewacket]
I have thought about updating my playlist, pyewacket, but it seems that I never have enough time. I will have to check out your newly updated playlist soon. It's true that music often reflects the person's true self but maybe I have not found my true self yet.lolI am attracted to all kinds of music and will listen to a certain style of music according to my moods. I find Native American music to be very soothing and relaxing because it has an unmistakable tone. Being of Cherokee heritage myself I did some research into the Trail of Tears period in their history and it was a devastating event. [worldwise1]
I like to think I'm rather versatile in my music tastes and listen to just about anything that strikes my mood. Quite often in the earlier part of the day, and I'm in front of the computer I'll have some rock type music on, but at night for some reason switch to listening to classical. Yes that period of American History certainly wasn't one to be proud of [pyewacket]
no I dont have a playlist on profile but I do have the song Amazing grace sang ihn Cherokee on a cd I made a few years ado now I need to find it again lol used to have it in my car! Nope not there now! [Lakota12]
Wow--thanks for that link..I just bookmarked it [pyewacket]
No, i don't have a playlist on my profile.. i've got no time to upload my favorite songs on my web page.. it's true that your type of music reflects your personality.. i listen to all genres of music but my top favorite would be RNB. Then next would be alternative, rock and house music.. My top favorite artists are Usher Raymond, Craig David, Rihanna, The Fray, Paramore, Bonnie Bailey, DJ Tiesto and many more.. [gracie04]
Do you like Coldplay or any kind of New Age music??? [pyewacket]
Hi! Yes, actually I updated mine yesterday as a matter of fact. I normally tinker with it about once a week but since I haven't been on line as much the past few months it is a little longer between changes. I like all kinds of music but the music on the playlist is stuff that I like to listen to when I'm writing or having fun! [Strongheart]
Mmmm..will have to give a listen to the music you have to see what you like [pyewacket]
I have just been having a lovely listen to the music on your profile, pye. The Mystic's Dream is hauntingly beautiful. Cherokee Morning Song is wonderful, as is Ghost Dance. There are still some tracks I need to hear so, I will return to your profile later. The music on my profile was added by my friend, catfish, not by me. Since catfish doesn't seem to be around anymore, I have left his playlist untouched as a tribute to him. One of these days, I will add my favourite music. When I do, it will contain Australian artists Cold Chisel and Ben Lee, along with a bit of Bob Marley. [Piscesmoon]
Yes, what happened to catfish? His profile isn't even here anymore. Glad you listened and liked some of my music [pyewacket]
I wish I knew how to customize my profile page. It is so drab and plain. The only thing I have added is one banner. When I tried to add another one I couldn't get it to work. [savak03]
Maybe you have to add another HTML sortie???? [pyewacket]
i pretty much keep it consistant..i probably should change it once in awhile, but i hadn't got around to it yet.i do keep it on "off unless they hit it" though.. i've gone to some people's profiles and had my ears blasted lol i do need to check mine,i think i have some dead song links.. [scarlet_woman]
LOL--I know what you mean...I sometimes go to people's profiles and nearly jump to the ceiling as I'm not expecting loud music [pyewacket]
I make a different playlist once a year...I dunno how to put it on my mylot profile, so I'll just tell you what the songs are so far this year: Somebody's watching me - Rockwell Roll to me - Demetri Amitri Pain - Three days grace Dashboard - Modest Mouse Decode - Paramore Good feel drag - Anberlin Renegade - Styx Never too late - Three days grace My body is a cage - Arcade fire American idiot - Green day She's a rebel - Green Day Sweet Sacrifice - Evanescence This is how you remind me - Nickelback Too bad - Nickleback Let the flames begin - Paramore The Reaping - Coheed & Cambria Disturbia - Rhianna Some of these songs probably won't be on here when the year's dobe...and more songs are likely to be added. The mixture of songs tend to be what I listen to when I'm writing books and things that reflect on how I've been feeling in my life lately. Last year had a couple songs from Juno Reactor, Cosmic Castaway - Electrasy It's my turn to fly - The Urge, How far we've come - Matchbox twenty, Harder to breathe - Maroon 5, 24 - Jem, Riot - Three days grace, The only one - Evanescence, another couple Paramore songs, Better than me - Hinder, Jezebel - Iron & Wine, Woman King - Iron & Wine, Save you - Matthew Perryman Jones, Read my mind - The Killers, Time is running out - Muse, Wonderful - Everclear, Intuition - Jewel, Countdown - Jupiter One, Hekate Cerridwen -- Inkubus Sukubus, Modred's Lullaby - Heather Dale, Earth Intruders - Bjork, The City is at war - Cobra Starship, In time - Harry Heck, You know my name - Christ Cornell, Wanted dead or alive - Bon Jovi, Goodnight demon slayer - Voltaire, A beautiful lie - 30 seconds to mars, Breathe - Anna Nalick, Seperate ways (world's apart) - Journey, Angels - Within Temptation, Saving me - Nickelback, It's been awhile - Staind, Nine in the Afternoon - Panic! at the disco, Here with me - Dido, The look - Roxette, Sweet dreams - Eurythmics, Weathered - Creed, One last breath - Creed, and finally Passive - A Perfect circle. I listen to the music alot when I'm online...and it's always quite a mix of things, not usually sticking to one kind of music...or one band, and most of the songs are there for a reason. Whether due to a deeper meaning (songs connected to memories for example, that I thought alot about in a year), or connected to a really alive piece of inspiration, or mood of the time. I like checking out what friends listen to and seeing why they listen to it. A friend of mine, a boy who is the most brilliant and most misunderstood person I'll ever know...plays in a band and knows a TON about music. Every note means something to him, and I never get tired of listening to him talk about it and giving him my rather-uneducated-in-compairison feedback. Sometimes it's just what my friends like, but other times it gives me quite alot of insight into them and how they're doing. [xParanoiax]
Well some of the artists are one-hit-wonders who only made one song ever (or else, no one ever talks about their other songs), some of it's radio classic songs from the nineties (when I was little and is the music I remember the most). Some are "alternative" bands and don't get alot of mainstream circulation, and a few of the bands/artists are quite new as well. =) Wide world of music's pretty awesome, Pye. It's always cool to see what others are listening to. I've only had a few Inkubus Sukubus songs, and wish I could find more 'cause everything I hear of them I like. Nickelback and Green Day are examples of how artists in the mainstream can still rock, ^_^ imo. You're not getting old! I still couldn't tell you much about alot of the artists I listen to, and I've friends who live and breathe music! It's just all about finding the time to surf some tunes, =) Good listening, Pye! [xParanoiax]
I built up my playlist, which are all songs that I like a lot, quite gradually. I tend to just add more songs to it, but I don't usually delete them, so it's an ever-growing thing! The information you've posted on native americans is very interesting, and sad. I'll be visiting your playlist as I'd love to hear the native music you're talking about. I do sometimes go to other people's profiles to listen to their music, but not many as I don't know too many people with playlists. Maybe I'll find a few others through this discussion. A person's taste in music does give you a real insight into them as a person. A nice discussion, thanks! [liquorice]
I'm sometimes genuinely surprised when I listen to people's profiles. Sometimes you have a definite idea of people and then that changes when you get to listen to people's taste in music. Like one person struck me as a country/western music lover for some reason, yet when I listened to her playlist it was all hard rock...LOL [pyewacket]
I have not really played with my profile much on here, but on another site I use, my playlist was removed by the site. I did not change it out that often, mostly, I would add and remove a few songs here and there from project playlist, though there were a few songs that remained on there the whole life of that certain profile playlist. [UtopianIdealist]
Well I didn't know we could have a playlist on our profiles..haha. Now I'm going to go to other peoples profiles and listen. I'll have to check yours out as well. I am Native American, I'm Cherokee, and I grew up hearing all those old Cherokee songs, I used to hear my grandma singing in the kitchen all the time, I think my all time favorite is Amazing Grace, everyone around here likes to hear us Cherokees sing it(I'm in Oklahoma),someone once told me that song should be our Anthem song. Its a shame that we are starting to lose our language, and some of those old songs we don't hear anymore, but thats a whole nother discussion.ha I've heard of Rita Coolidge, she recorded a CD with the Cherokee National Children's Choir a few years ago, hey I might put some of that on my playlist as well. Yeah it is interesting to see what everybody is into. [walijo2008]
I love music and I love hearing new types of music I used to have a playlist on my page here I change the music once in awhile the problem I have been having though is just finding the time to add it here again or even change the music I have been meaning to do this but just havent had a chance (maybe this week LOL) [wonttakelong]
Mmmm...glad I might have inspired you to add your playlist....so you like Phantom of the Opera too [pyewacket]
i consciously have several playlists, depending on my mood... i made regular updates to those i can update... if i want to induce moods i will go to a certain playlist... i group them by genre... safer... i decided to try songs from 50's to present... it will be a sorry miss if i will not be able to know classics [Mathurin]
That's not a bad idea to have several playlists, and maybe grouped according to "genre" or type of music [pyewacket]
I don't on here. I have the crappy myspace playlist on myspace. I have a playlist on playlist.com that I used to have on myspace til they blocked it. I tried it on facebook but didn't like it on there so I took it off. I do have ilike though. I like to change mine. I need to on myspace. They only allow 10 songs so it won't take long. [Ruthep]
They did except for certain sites that just had links to them. But I was able to get mine back up. I had to add a new code but it is working. I haven't looked at your profile lately either. I see videos you can play but no music. [Ruthep]
No. But then I don't know how to change it. A friend put it up for me almost a year ago and there it has stayed! The songs are from Avenue Q which is nicely irreverent - kind of how I hope people see my humour. [p1kef1sh]
Heehee...yes I've hear the Avenue Q music you have there....sure is different..LOL [pyewacket]
Cos I've been out of the loop for a long while I didn't even know I could add a play list to my mylot profile I'll soon have some big tunes on my profile [Musicial]
Have you put a playlist on your profile yet?? [pyewacket]
Hi Pye! I loved setting up my playlist, but I set it so it wouldn't come on automatically and blast people's ears off if they looked at my profile. Strangely, I don't ever visit it and change or listen to it - but I have the player on my desktop and sometimes listen to it there if I am reading news articles or something - it's good background music! You have a great choice of music on yours! [guybrush]
LOL..I'm sometimes blasted out of my seat when I go to profiles. I'll have to give a listen to yours to see what you're "into" [pyewacket]
The songs in my playlist have been carefully selected and would not want to change it yet. There are those yester years songs which are evergreen and soothing. I have also added spiritual songs which is very touching. While mylotting I prefer to listen to instrumental music. I need to look for more of this kind of stuff to add it to my playlist. [zandi458]
Just gave a quick look at your playlist...see you love John Denver and was surprised to see you have the same Amazing Grace one from Walela...mmmm....did I inspire that?? During the earlier evening when I'm writing articles I play rock music for some reason...but set on low. Later at night when I'm mylotting I tend to have my radio tuned to the classical station [pyewacket]
What a neat discussion, Pye! I don't have a playlist on my profile here but I suppose it's because I'm not sure how to add it. I think I could put project playlist on here, I can no longer use that player at myspace, they have their own player, and facebook has its own player as well. I actually updated both of those pretty recently, they both contain songs by Skillet and Anberlin, which are bands that I like. I do a lot of browsing on Youtube for new music plus I ask a friend for nods towards things he likes. His taste is very similar to mine, we both like a lot of alt rock. Here are a couple links to youtube if you want to listen: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9PMNa8fbJfc (River Flows in You ultramix - PaulJohn) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eYbVGCtBUJU (Rebirthing - Skillet) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zJML-Xbg4UY (Godspeed - Anberlin) - Heroes tribute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zQME-ChSwNM (River Flows in You - Yiruma) I am open to listening to a lot of different things, but I don't always know what will 'speak' to me. I'm not generally an artist-specific listener, although I am close to that with Anberlin. Most of the songs they have written the lyrics and music for I love, the only things I am iffy about from them are covers from other bands or anything not written by the guys themselves. Skillet is a new acquisition as far as my playlist. I heard several songs of theirs on YouTube, I like most of the new stuff, but not so much their early music, the old stuff is much more punk/goth. There are some things I'd love to add to a playlist but most of the time what I can add is dependent on what is available, I can't add it from my own library. Some favorites I have that I may not be able to get off a site would be Escapist (Nightwish) and an electronic mix of a piano piece called River Flows in You. I know my tastes sound a little eclectic, they are happy I like to look thru playlists, sometimes I hear things I like and I add them to my own music library. I don't usually have mine enabled to play automatically though because I know some people like to listen to their own stuff while browsing, I'm actually doing that right now. [mommyboo]
