Getting Hooked On Music

Do you ever find yourself getting hooked on a couple of songs and just listening to them over, and over and over again? I find that happening to me more and more often these days. At the moment, I seem to play on repeat nothing but Nosferatu and Flaming Telepaths by Blue Oyster Cult and We Are The Dead by David Bowie. Those three songs on repeat pretty much constantly. I just go through these phases where I only listen to the same songs. And you'd think I'd get tired of them, but I don't. Maybe I'm becoming senile in my old age. ;)

yeah, yahoo radio is VERY addictive I listen to that mostly, it finds songs for you [kurtbiewald]

Yes, I do that ALL the time. It seems like the songs that I choose to listen to are ones that are relevant to my life and the way that I am feeling at the time. Once the feeling passes, I'll move on to other songs or other genres of music. Then when the mood strikes, I'll be back to a couple of songs on repeat again. [biwasaki]

Oh I do the same thing. I drive everyone around me crazy. When I first got the Panic! At the Disco cd I listened to "Lying Is The Most Fun A Girl Can Have Without Taking Her Clothes Off" over and over and over again. That was when the CD first came out... now I'm listening to "Smile" by Lily Allen, "Knights in White Satin" by the Moody Blues and "Suede" by Tori Amos over and over and over again. I actually had the neighbor knock on the door and ask me if I could mix it up a little. [Withoutwings]

There are *many* David Bowie songs that are addictive. I remember when I was young and heard "Golden Years" for the first time. I sat there almost in shock -- I thought "and now for something completely different!" He's awesome. I was almost overwhelmed by a rush of a feeling I'd never even *had* when I saw him with Arcade Fire. He is always experimenting. I guess in a way you can always count on him to do something new in music that you didn't count on. But the question was something different, lol. Yes, I do that a lot and actually always have. Lately I've been listening to Ronstadt/Parton/Emmylou Harris harmony over & over. I guess it's just certain moods you find yourself in that only a certain kind of music satisfies. [cremechese]
I like the David Bowie songs from the Labyrinth Soundtrack... I could listen to those over and over again (I have them on my ipod). I also love Linda Ronstadt... Different Drum is my favorite. [Withoutwings]

I've done that before. Lets see I wore out the album and the cassette tape of Kansas' Point of No Return set. So far the CD has held up. The reason for it was due to the song Dust In The Wind. I just listened to it over and over. Problem came in the album wasn't mine but my brother's. He wasn't too happy with me :) Lately though I"ve been stuck on Pat Benatar's "Invincible". Not sure why but I will play it a lot. When ever I get into the car and have the CD for it right there. [emeraldisle]

One song that I can listen to a million times and never feel tired is The Moody Blues, "The Story in your Eyes." Of course, in my mind, Anything by the Moody Blues, Pink Floyd, BOC, and Led Zepplin is worth listening to over and over. If not for the incredible musical sound, both vocally and instrumentally, but the lyrical poetry involved. Oh, Rush is another. [cyntrow]
You and I seem to have the same basic taste in music. Have you ever heard anything by Ultravox? If you haven't you should check them out. [cyntrow]

I do, a lot of times. Especially whenever I'm down. A really good music can take my mind off things and I'd just zone out. A good music can also make my day. I think that music has therapeutic effects. I listen to a lot of U2 songs whenever I need the music relief. [mayharaya]

Last week I listened Bowie Always Crashing in the Same Car about 60 times. Mmm do you think I answered the question? It is nothing to do with age, I'v always been like that. But usually I get hooked up on certain performer and listen to him/her/them until I am sick of it. Before it was Blue Foundation. Heard them? [NordCat]

yeah..i'm hooked to this jpop music... he name is YUI..her songs is the best i've ever heard.. when i'm driving i'll listen to her music... [japboy]

I drive people crazy doing this. I can put in one CD, or start one playlist on the computer, and play it all day long, or even for days on end. I listen largely to what some of my friends call "whiny chick music", though I do sometimes listen to heavier stuff as well, and I pretty much have a couple of specific playlists I play based on my mood. Right now I'm listening to my "sad" playlist, and I've just played a song called "Goodbye to You" about ten times in a row. Yeah, I'm a little psycho. [lecanis]

My current favourite tune is by Hinder, called "Lips of an Angel" (I THINK that's the title). Either way... every time it comes on the radio, I crank it up. My sons are getting rather sick of it. lol. I do the same with Meatloaf's "Paradise by the Dashboard Light" and Don MacLean's "American Pie" whenever they come on too. I've had those moments where I listen to the same cd or song over and over and over and over again, for sure! I did that the other week with a version of "Whiskey in the Jar" I have. My sons really got into that one with me. lmao! We were irish jigging it! ;) [QueenKaren]

I tried to post to this discussion earlier, lost my connection and so a whole long response. Argh. First of all, there are *many* and varied addictive David Bowie songs and as usual I like your taste. I will *never* forget the first time I heard "Golden Years" as a young person. It gave me some sensation I had not had before. Bowie is never afraid to experiment. I especially like the performances I've seen with him and Arcade Fire. They gave me goosebumps. But that was not your question, lol. Yes, in fact it's more usual than not for me to stick to the same thing for awhile. Lately it's been Ronstadt/Parton/Emmylou Harris harmony. I think it has something to do with spans of certain mood. As a side note: today I heard someone refer to Cheney as "driving the train" and all of a sudden I could not get "Casey Jones" by the Grateful Dead out of my head. The image of Cheney high on cocaine. . oh well. [cremechese]

I have to be in the "mood " for certain songs, then once I hear themI will play them over and over again . My lastest fad was Honk-y Tonk ba Donkey Donk by Trace Adkins, we would put the cd in and play it till we got to hwere we where going ...I haven't listened to it now for a couple of months ...My new one is is by Tim McGraw...New Set of Wings ...the kids singing along with him is just so awesome and I play it oever and over again ..and now mty tow year old is running around singing it too ... Its amazing how much we all love some type of music and how effects each one of us differently ... [lifeiseasy]

Yeah, every once in a while, I come across a song that feels really good to my soul, and I'll play it over and over and over and never tire of it. For a long time, it was "The Rain Song" by Led Zeppelin (one of my fave bands). That song has got to have one of the most beautiful musical arrangements ever. I remember having it on repeat all night long one night. I must've played it well over 50 times. [etcetera22]

It happens to me all the time! Right now, i'm listening to "perhaps love", the official soundtrack of princess hours, a korean tv series. I don't understand the lyrics because its korean but i do appreciate the melody and the voices behind the song. =) Prior to being hooked in this song, i listen to "it started with a kiss" ost, this time, a tv series from taiwan. I appreciate other countries music though i don't really understand them. =) [joby_09]

Ya I really used to listen to a lot of music sometime ago but now I seldom have time to sit and relax and listen to music as my exams are nearing on me and I have to study a lot and besides that I spend a lot of time on the internet so as to earn some money as I am in desprate need of it. Earlier before my snmartphone got stolen I used to listen to music on the go, where ever I went either the radio used to be on or else the mp3s played. I always used to listen to music in my journeys to my home. It was quite fun and so I never got bored but now that its stolen I miss it. I love music but just don't have enough time to choose and listen to my favourite songs. Take Care May GOD Bless YOU [raphael_volts]

I'm like that too misskatonic..I listen to so many songs over and over till I get so fed up that I wouldn't listen to them for another 6 months or so..lol I recently heard Hans Zimmers' composition for Rainman and I liked it a lot. I'm always listening to it while on mylot. I also like Westlife songs and their new ones are very good, I'm totally into it now. [greengal]

there is a song that everytime that I hear it on tv I know the exact words to it because we go to the clubs and the band plays it but yes it stays on my mind for a while afterward and I try to remember when I last heard it [kylanie]

yes i'm going through this right now!!!! i can't stop listening to 'spectrum' by 245. i'm trying, though...i just joined this music website where you can hear new bands and rate them for points, which you can then redeem to buy yourself cds, dvds, etc. this DOES sort of help, since it makes me really LISTEN to a band i may have never heard of. takes my brain off of 245, which i'm getting obsessed with lol. [shmeedia]

I do listen to songs and it usually happens that I get hooked on them too as there are few songs which I prefer more nice than the other ones. [saeedsid]

Listening to music is a good method or way of relaxing. It sets your mood and feeling. I usually love to hear and listen to music which always catch my attention, something that I love and enjoy to hear. Whenever I heard one, I will listened to it repeatedly until I already memorized the whole lyrics or lines. And you're right, I never get tired of listening to it even if I play it everyday. Even children nowadays are getting hooked on songs. My six year old son will always put his favorite song in the car stereo and play it repeatedly until we arrived in his school. [tholitz]

LOL I do the same, just ask my fiance rofl, he gets so annoyed and cant understand why or even how i can listen to these songs over and over! Its ok though because eventually it comes to the point where I just cant listen to those songs anymore and they get put away for months at a time.....eventually yes they do make there way out again as some music just doesnt age :) [Sweetpeas]

I've had Lionel Ritchies' All Night Long stuck in my head for the last couple of days. If that's not hooked nothing is. I need to invest in a good pair of earphones. [AskAlly]

I've become a Derik Nelson addict. (www.deriknelson.com) [jacksmom]

Yes I'm currently guilty of this.. hahaha! Here's a link to my recent song addiction, It's entitled "When the Stars go Blue" by Bethany Joz Lenz and Tyler Hilton from the TV series 'One Tree Hill' --> http://profile.imeem.com/Ld_dF/music/3IYXdf2F/when_the_stars_go_blue/ I'm not sure what but there is definitely something in this song that got me hooked up. [lafavorito]

Ok i think you should try listening to new songs hey, i think its all a mind thing really. If you think about it, you like some song that some one else really thinks is bad! You could listen to that specific song for ages, i know the feeling becoz i do the same thing @ time! But i try to listen 2 various songs really [champnaid]

Its not a matter of age. Some people tend to get addicted to some kin of songs.Even I am addicted to Green Day and Linkin Park. But doesn't matter.I have many successful ways to avoid this. You should get involved in stuff like reading books, spending time with your friends and also doing some exercises.I hope this may help. [amey_dev143]

i agree with u dear.. even i've dis habit of listening 2 one song continuosly.. but dont worry its not in indication of old age... i'm 21 and sahre d same habit... rite now i'm listening 2 enriques addicted almost repeatedly... but i get bored of it after a few weeks [virgo_komall_21]

I do this all the time. I hear one song that I play over & over. There were also times that I've also played a certain piece of a song over & over instead of the entire song. Sometimes to hear that part over & over, & other times, to try to figure out a singer's mumble. [KrazyKlingon]

well that has happened to me countless times myself, i come across a song and listen to it over and over and over again, but eventually i do get over it, i mean i still love it, but i don't listen to it obsessively anymore. The last song i was obsessed over, was 'everything i once had' by the honorary title. i still love listening to it but i'm not as psyched as i used to be about it. i don't think it's anything to do with senility though, it's just one of those things us humans do. [vega83]

Ya....i also hanged on some songs for some days........now a days i m hooked on album EMINEM - The Re Up.. so its happening to me also....... [Multics]

What can i say about music,i am mad after music.Any kind of music, pop, rock, sad, love, dance and it may be prayer i love to sing and listen music. [kmdvmd]

I'm addicted to some artists too. like NAS, anyday, I'll just like to sit down and enjoy the free flow of lyrics. Definitely each person is entitled to like a particular artist whose songs trip you all the way. [Questy]

If you think you're senile, then I must be senile also, misskatonic. I may have a lot of music to choose from, but I had compiled some of my favorite songs in a CD and just let it play whnenever I'm surfing the internet. I especially love the acoustic style of music. Very soothing and easy to my ears. My girls are complaining that they're bored with my music but I do not mind that much. Happy listening. [charms88]

It is not old age because even the young find themselves addicted.i too play westlife and celine dion over and over again and can't seem to get tied of listening to these songs.music lovers is what we are [rpebad]

Happens to me a lot... and I refuse to admit to senility... not ready for that, quite yet. Hah! I have long told people that music is my "mind-altering substance of choice," and I think that sometimes plays out with particular songs and artists creating precisely the "mood" I am looking for, at some particular moment. So I might end up with a CD in the player, and have it set to "repeat" for about 6-7 plays, before I get my fix. And no, I don't become tired of the songs, either... [Denmarkguy]

ya its happens with me all the time when i hear any song that i like i listen it non stop.i hear it till i remember all the words. [vinaysingh007]

Yes, and I miss the 60s and 70s music very much. I love music and listen to just about everything but the music that brings back great memories are the 60s and 70s and like you I listen to them over and over. I feel that if it brings back good memories it is a good thing! Have a great day! [kimlot]

Most of the time i get hooked by the music from Mystical songs or devotional tone. At the moment i used to listen Qawali music from Nusrat Fateh Ali khan. Even i listen more than 10 times it still appeals to me. [alirana]

In my case, there is these movie theme from Dying Young, the tearjerker of a movie by Julia Roberts. I have not watched the movie at all, but have accidentally listened to its soundtrack and boy! Was I hooked upon listening to the whole of it. Almost all cuts are instrumentals by Kenny G. Everything was just wonderful, I really got myself into the tracks and will always be my favorite, that's for sure. [ernst111]

I do find myself getting hooked to certain songs. I listen to my Delta Goodrem songs over and over all the time, and also some songs that remind me of the first holiday I took with my husband. [dizzybot]

Yes. I always listen to CSN and Dixie Chicks . In fact, I even sing their songs out loud in school..Hehehe... [country_gurl]

I've had that happen, but more with entire albums rather than just a couple of songs. I went through a Berlioz "Symphonie Fantastique" phase in which the only classical piece I'd listen to was that one. Then I went through a Billy Joel Greatest Hits phase...then a Beatles Greatest Hits stage.... The worst is a John Williams/Star Wars phase...those come and go, but when they do...they last a while [alexdiazgranados]
