Early this morning I heard a song from the radio and find it really cool. But the thing is the lyric of the song were written in korean so, I didn't understand the whole meaning of the song. The music itself and the beat got me so interested with the song and I even searched them on the internet. As they say music is a universal language of love. Whatever language it maybe interpreted it will still convey emotion and will surely touch someones soul.
Have you heard of a song on a different language that you completely don't understand but still liked it? :)

responses and comments:
Yes... I've heard the good song, it's a sad song or a love song I guess, because I don't understand Chinese. that song is from the F4 Album.... uh.. I forget the title of that song. [artofreed]
Yes... Meteor Garden....Do You that songs too? [artofreed]
yeah i love the song of the Lord of the Rings---May It Be and the song of Ratatuille---Le Festin, first in English the other in French, i love both of them. [flzmlady]
Hi danitykane, I think I had heard a hundreds of songs that I have no idea what this songs all about but I like it. Usually we like the songs not because the lyrics but the rhythm and melodies. I love to listen to Chinese, Japan, Korea and Latin Music even though I didn't know a single word use in it. Sometimes I didn't know what is the title of the songs. And it is hard to goggle it on the net without knowing the title and the singer. [akuler]
Definitely :) 99 Luft Balloons... but I've eventually heard the English translation Entinen by Ezkimo... it's a song from Finland The End ... by Lisa Gerrard... It's her own personal language Una Palabra .. by Carlos Varela ... it's in Spanish, I now know the translation ??... I can't recall the name.. it's by Joanna Newsome... A Gaelic folk song perhaps Una Palabra is by far one of the most beautiful songs that I have ever heard [zoey7879]
I also loved 99 Luft Balloons when it first came out and the English version was not yet available. Actually, the English version wasn't as good to listen to as the original version :p [writermom8]
Yeah, I've heard a lot of songs that I like thats in a different language. Specially when I watch Animes...there are some songs there thats really nice. Like the one with shaman King. I don't even know the title..but it sounds really nice. hehe [donsky14]
That's nice. I like the theme songs in final fantasy. :) [danitykane]
Yes, I often listened to Mandarin / China songs, although I do not know the meaning of the lyrics. [hsofyan]
I have several favorite foreign songs that I even transcribed phonetically and memorized: Gaelic songs "Brid Og Ni Mhaille" and "Buchaille On Eirne" by the Corrs. I can sing these songs word for word! :) Portugese songs "Travessia" by Kevyn Lettau and "Mais Que Nada" by the Sergio Mendes band And some other Portugese songs by Astrud Gilberto ... [writermom8]
Hi danitykane, thanks for choosing my post as BR. Happy listening to more music :) [writermom8]
Absolutely! This is why we always hear/say that music is a universal language as you said on your post. It breaks barriers. There have been instances where I did exactly as you. I searched for the song and the interpretation to understand. One particular song was in Japanese, another was in Italian so it was interesting then I eventually started looking for another similar artists. [rg0205]
Well, this had been happening to me all the time.I had been in the middle East for sometime and liked some of the Arabic, turkish songs, though i did not understand a word , but i loved the songs. Then travelling to India, it was even funnier, you have 32 languages and I had my opportunities to listening to songs , which were simply superb and then when I was in US, spanish songs delighted me.Well music is a universal language. It does not have any barriers. And i love it!Thanks! [UltimateAsoka]
Of course, im mexican and i love songs in other languages, i love my language, but songs in different languages sounds always different and of course really cool, love songs in english. cheers [robertsixy]
yeah i like the songs by F4. i know you probably heard of them. i like it even if its cantonese [Timmyfbabyy]
Yeah many of them. But since I couldnt get the words, I cant really mention. But one that almost everybody (I think everybody) must be liking is the ketchup song. It is a blend I know. But I liked it very much. And so did I like Tarkan's number. And then there was a very cute girl - possibly singing in some Russian or other such language. I used to be crazy about that number when it used to be played on MTV. English, of course, there are many, and so do I like African music. There is something about African solo songs that I really enjoy them. I dont really know which language they are singing in or what the lyrics mean. There was one Anna Mwale, whose number I used to enjoy. [vandana7]
I took French in high school. In this class we had the chance to listen to some French singers singing songs in their native language. Some of the French songs were so beautiful. Sometimes English songs were translated into French for the class. Some songs were more beautiful and melodic in the foreign tongue. Doesn't that seem strange? [sender621]
When I first started to learn Portuguese, yes. Actually when I started learning Portuguese, my taste in music expanded A LOT.. I was mostly into hip-hop and R&B, but it was kind of hard to find that kind of music in Portuguese at first. So I had to get used to more pop/rock-ish songs. Nowadays I still listen to those songs but now I understand a lot more of what they are saying. [jeneias]
Yes you are right. Music is universal language of love. If the music is good it does not matter in which language the lyrics are written. I have tried listening to some songs which are not written in the languages I understand. I have tried a few Tamil songs as I feel that the music of Tamil songs is awesome. Also I have tried one or two songs in French by Alizee. I do not understand these two languages but I like listening to songs in them. [g_vickie84]
Yes. In my childhood I did not know Hindi language. But certain songs were very appealing. I used to catch the tune, put my own words and used to sing for myself. Even my daughter, as a baby, used to like any song any language, whether spain or korean and used to be silent. I used to keep transister next to her, keep any music coming anywhere in the transister and look after my house chores. [Buchi_bulla]
I always love to hear korean songs although I cant understand them. Sometimes i listen to mexican songs. I cant understand the lyrics I just want to hear the beat. [junmae]
I absolutely adore Latin Pop. Unfortunately...I don't know a word of Spanish outside "Ola" and "Si" and "Senor". Oh well, as long as the beat is good and I can find a translation if I want to online, then I really don't mind if I don't understand what they're singing about. [elenyae]
Yeah of course I liked the spanish song which became very famous a few years ago... and of course I didnt understand the meaning, but still its a very catchy song and can enjoy listening to it... [kkanaka]
oh yes, several times. i tend to like eres tu, a spanish song by mocedades. then i fell in love with era's collections like the hymn. it's in latin. i really love the melody and i ended up searching the internet for the meaning of it. :) [cherrc]
I also like the song of F4 during Meteor Garden days. If I like the melody of foreign music I don't mind if I don't understand the lyrics. I also like Korean there music are also good like us. When mexican singer and actress Thalia got famous here in the Philippines I began to collect her songs. Even if I don't understand it but I can sing Spanish. [agv0419]
yah like jrock and jpop song i like the beat in voice. [nicasio21hilariojr]
I did come across a song on one of the popular video sharing sites. It is called Yoututbe. As the song in the video was being played in a particular language, it was interprated in english through sub titles. The entire interpretation was so funny and cool. [anthonyn]
hello danitykane, maybe we heard the same song for what i heard was a korean too. like the rhythm of the song. can make you dance. indeed, i can't understand all about it but i still i wanna hear it all over again. think, it's much better if there is an interpretation of the song so, i can appreciate it more. [robert19ph]
yes i like with it, like how I liked songs speak English. In this, lyric not important for me, important thing is music [advokatku]
yes, there are many foreign language songs that captures the heart and mind even if we fail to understand the lyrics. A good example would be Angelina, it's a French song but the beat and the music is beautiful and many sang and dance to it even though I myself do not understand it's meaning. Hahaha.... [chaime]
This happens to me all the time. It's strange but it is really touching even if it's in a foreign language that you don't understand the feeling is there and it is immense as well. [babymimi05]
Yes, I have undergone under this circumstances many times. I do remember Once that i was watching Mtv when i saw a song of Arabic country. (Nari nari). I don't even understand Urdu or Arabic. But i was dancing for that song. there are many kind of incidents like this where i used to forget everything and keep on dancing. That is the power of music which is called as global language. [ajayrocks111]
Oh yes, there are several foreign language songs I heard over time which I really liked. One is a Korean song, I don't know the title, obviously since I can't understand a word of it.rasp But I reckon it was the soundtrack of that Korean drama I watched entitled Cruel Love which I followed religiously. The melody was beautiful and I was thinking to myself that if they translated it to English or Filipino, it would be a hit. I also like Travessia, the Portuguese rendition of the song Bridges, by Kevyn Lettau and I find the song Oye Como Va very danceable. [crazyoverpurple]
Yeah tons. :3 I love Jpop and Kpop, even though I barely understand a word they're saying without subtitles. Actually, even without subtitles I love kpop and jpop, just the beat and the emotions can be felt even without words. And sometimes, when you do realize the real meaning, then you'll love the song even more. That's probably why kpop is so popular in the Phils and all around SE Asia. [KaraKATAD]
I totally agree with you! I think Jpop and Kpop is now invading the Phils. It's kinda weird and cool at the same time. LOL!! :) [danitykane]
hi danitykane! yes there are a few songs in korean, latin, and other language that i don't even understand but i do like them. nowadays, korean music is hot in my country. we especially like a lot of them even if i can't understand the lyrics except those in english. there are also some christian songs in latin like "the prayer" that i like but i don't even understand it. i think what really entices you to a song is the beat or the tune. if it sounds pleasing to the ears then you don't really care if you don't understand the lyrics. i'm not saying that the lyrics of the song is not important but it is secondary to how the music actually sounds. [tomjoad]
The Prayer is very touching song. I liked it a lot. :) [danitykane]
Yes it happened many times. I heard some songs which I don't understand and I liked it. Sometimes no matter what the lyrics is, but I like song. For the way of some is important not the lyrics sometimes. [joanahw]
Yes I have heard songs played in the music channel some of them in the languages which I do not know but love to hear it. I have even memorized the wordings of some songs as they are so lovely even without knowing the meaning or language. As you say music is universal and soothing to listen whatever the language may be. [yogambal_64]
danitykane, I have a vast collection of Chinese, Thai, Tagalog and Korean songs. I listen widely as far as musics and songs are concerned. But, unlike you, I will find out the meanings to the songs I collected and listened. They are very touching and meaningful too. I am sometimes like some interpreter in my office about these foreign language songs.happy [skysuccess]
I always like to hear different kinds of music, the language is a concern at times but its not a problem when the music is good, the lyrics some time give ma feel that I know them even if some are very unfamiliar. The music goes on even if its any language. I love the difference in the way people make music, and the language do not act as barriers, even if I do not know Tamil I listen to the songs of Tamil based languages.Same is the case with other languages, the Nepali songs,The Telegu and Kannada songs too are lovely one's to hear.happy [tintukm]
Oh yes, you're absolutely right. Music is indeed an universal language and it shouldn't matter the language featured in the songs. I'm very suspect to speak about this anyway because I almost have a favorite band per european country anyway :) [Eisenherz]
Definitely! I love Hindi/Bhangra music but most times I don't understand the words. The passion that the person sings with, just touches you and the beat are usually just out of this world. I've heard and loved 'Jai Ho' long before it became a hit, long before I even knew the translation. I used to play it in my office and it drives them crazy. I also have heard Spanish and North American Indian songs and immediately like the ones that I'm drawn to, even though I didn't know what the words mean't. [mystiquejjj]
Yes, I have heard a lot of Indian music that I like. I do not understand a thing that they are saying but I like the sounds of the Indian instruments such as the Sitar and their style of drumming! There is something magical about India that I find appealling! [RawBill1]
I have a few favorite groups from Asia. Like Shoenen knife,to name just one. [General_Spacey]
yeah, I actually have! Someone referred me to an artist. When I went to his site I found out it was all spanish. I really enjoyed the guy's sound. He was really good and had a nice blend but I couldn't understand a word of it! [macdingolinger]
I listen to a lot of Jpop, I don't speak the language ( might learn someday ) but I love it just the same. ( I have several albums and some on my ipod) [punkincat]
maybe you are referring to Nobody by wonder girls. which has been playing for some weeks now in the radio. it has been so popular in our country now. i didn't like the song though. it is quite okay but not my favorite. but the kids love it and so the grown ups too. i am really surprised how the song became so popular in our country. [hotsummer]
I sure have and I love all types of music even if it isn't in my language. I am so sorry but I have forgotten the name of the song but it was actually in a movie. An Indian movie. The movie had Shahrukh Khan in it. I love those types of movies. I love all types of music whether I understand what they are singing or not. Have a great day and Happy Mylotting! [DanielleA]
LOL yes i hear songs in various languages from different channels inn tv, some are abroad channels, i can understand english and most of the indian languages. But some songs are so pleasnt to hear, whether i understand the meaning or not Thanks for this nice post, keep sharing, happy posting, cheers ARUN [arun2009]
Hi Arun! Well there are really nice songs or music around the globe and we appreciate it in whatever language it was interpreted. Like you, India got finest singers right?. I've seen the last season of american idol and one of the finalist who got in is from your country. Anoop Desai. Hes my favorite. Do you know him? Happy Lotting. [danitykane]
yes. there's this song "A White Love Story" (i don't know the Korean title) from the korean show "coffee prince." i just love listening to it again and again. i have another favorite from the korean show "Full House". The title of the song is "i think i love you". [alatecablebill]
Wow! I love both of korean shows that you mentioned. Especially Full House! LOL. There is this sad song in full house thats very touching and guess what? That show is being aired again here, and I got to see Rain again. :) [danitykane]
If that song is good to listen to my ears, i will love that song although i don,t understand the language, i remeber a few songs from japan kokorono tomo, and latin song like cesara, and i have a favorite song from meteor garden album it,s Teamo or te'amor , do you know that song ? :) [adiel35]
There are great Latin songs and singers that I like. I love how mark anthony sings and of course Julio Iglesias. he is one of great Latin singers of all time. Ive watched some Japanese music clips and they are good also. Some of the song in meteor garden were translated in Filipino at that time that the tv show were aired here in the Philippines. So, I got the meaning of its theme songs when we had our local singers translated it. Thanks :) [danitykane]
Yes, plenty of times, and in several languages. I guess it's all thanks to how the music goes and how the tone of the voice adds something to the melody, being almost like if another instrument in the music itself. You may not understand the exact meaning that the words want to convey, but sometimes the tone of the voice used can tell a decent bit about this, which only helps the music have a more explicit image attached to it. [cmdr001]
I totally agree with you. Most of the time even if you don't know what the singer tells you in a song you still feel you're getting what hes trying to say because of the emotion he put in the song. :) [danitykane]
Yes I do. There were several songs that I have heard in different languages which I really do not understand a bit. But I like them since they are very pleasing to the ears. In fact, I have even downloaded some of them so I could listen from time to time.happy [jpso138]
Yes. It depends on the beat of the song and how the singer sings it.=) Korean songs are interesting. I like some of them. I kept on playing them especially if it is soothing to my ears. There are really things you like even if you do not know them, for as long as it gives comfort to your senses, that would be COOL!! [m_rose06]
I heard a kind of song from a drama series (also korean) that I got to finish watching before it got aired here in our country. I got interested so much that I spent time singing the song that I really didn't literally knew what it meant. It was until later that I got to ask someone and got a reply that seemed to slightly surprised me, the english title of that song is, Because I'm Stupid by SS501, the first ending theme from Boys Over Flowers. (^_^ ) [ratyz5]
To me the answer is yes. The melody of music itself is a kind of language. You could feel a lot even if you don't understand the meaning of it. Many classical music enjoyed great prestige in the world though there is no word inside it at all. [Simon1223]
"yesterday once more", one classic English song, i think most of you have heard it. i hadn't study English yet when i listened to it for the first time, but its beautiful melody could remind me of the past memorable moments that touched my heart's chord. [xiaoqing]
Wow, thats a nice song. I like that too. :) Now you gone far from learning the language atleast now you were able to understand it fully. I'm happy for you. [danitykane]
