Have You Still Got Records

I updated my tape collection on CDs then I threw out my record collection. This was my effort of clutter clearing. I have about 30 CDs but some of my friends have 200 CDs or more. Do you still have records or tapes? If you have a CD collection how large is it?

Yep,Yep,Yep, I still have records....... Just can't seem to get rid of them. :o) Got tapes too...... I can't part with them either. :oP [marilynlynn]
Yes, they mean so much to you that you don't want to part from them. I got rid of my record collection because they are large. I tucked a number of tapes in a box and store them in my loft. [maximax8]

I still have a large record collection and I still collect my cds! Last count I think I had about 250 cds but at the minute I am going through them and trying to get rid of some. Its really hard though because I love them all! Even though most of my all time favourites are now on mp3 I just cant seem to get rid of the cds. [gemini_rose]
This sounds like emotional clutter. Well done for trying to get of some of your CDs. It was a great idea of yours to put them on MP3. Good luck sorting out your music collection. [maximax8]

I have a huge c.d collection, but now i have to put everything on the ipod. But,yeah i still have like 75 records.I like them,i think they are so vintage and cool.Plus,i still got some tapes laying around*** [DLOPEZ240]

I have hundreds of records. They are stored in the garage. I have hundreds of cassettes. They are stored in the garage. I even have a good number of eight-track tapes. They are also stored in the garage. Does anybody want to buy some albums or tapes? I have more CDs than I can count. There must be a thousand of them in the house. I am a music lover and I like all music except rap and hip-hop. I can listen to some of it sometimes, but would never purchase any of it on my own. My daughter listens to it and seems to like it. My son likes the same music I do, with the exception of the Classical CDs that I like to listen to every so often. [cheesehater]
I also have hundreds of records myself. They are stored in the basement. This last Christmas I received a unique gift. It is called an ION. It basically is a turntable that converts your albums(or cassette tapes) into digital recordings you can put into your itunes library. If your album is really scratched up you will be able to hear it, otherwise it does a really good job. It takes time, just like the old days of putting albums on tape. Not that most of my collection is not available on CD or music downloads but this will save me some money as I have close to 500 albums and will give me the opportunity to listen to my old music and have it easily available to me now. It is going to take awhile but I am sure it will be fun. [ryzach]

I remember those vinyl records. I don't have any. I do have a massive collection of CDs. I would say more than 150. I could have had more, but I started downloading MP3s. When it comes to DVDs though, I have over 500. My neighbors tease me that I should open a Blockbuster video store. [petebaja]

what kind of cd you are collecting? music or movie? i have almost 30 music cd some of them a gift from a friend but I have more than 1000 movie original cd's...and now i am starting earning from it. i put up a video rental shop. [julyteen]

I no longer have a tape recorder or anything to play tapes on, I had a very very big collection of tapes which I gave away to charity, once I had upgraded them onto cds or downloaded the music from the internet to transfer to Itunes. I hated the LPs because they were so big and took up so much room and they were easily scratched. I don't buy cds anymore unless they are particular groups from the 80s which I collect. I download all my music legally now and save a fortune, mind you I did spend a fortune when I had to upgrade from records to tapes and then again from tapes to cds, which is expensive! 85% of my collection is solely 80s music. [wolfie34]

Bruce had (it seemed like a million) many records. He sold them on EBay last year and we got to go to Vegas on the earnings. We went this past May. Now we are going to estate auctions and buying more. LOL [sherrir101]

i have a handful of vinyl and maybe one or two tapes here with me now. but my original collections are both still at my parents house. as for CDs yes, i still have them all - in fact i still buy CDs quite frequently. i'm not sure exactly how many i have but i'd estimate between 600-700. i know mp3s are all the rage and i love itunes and my ipod, but there's something about having my tangible music collection that's still really important to me. [cifirretsbol]

I still have every album I have ever bought or gotten for a gift! I also have alot of cassettes...the 8 track tapes however got brittle and alot of the tapes broke when I tried to play them. I don't own alot of cd's..but am working on buying some of my favorites. [jillhill]

I have at least 40 CDs in my collection, I used to have a bunch of tapes when I was little. My mom still has a bunch of old records, but we never listen to them. [megumiart]

I still have all of the music I've ever bought, maximax8. Cassette tapes, 45 records, LP record, and CD's. I have about 500 CD's now. [Transdisc]
I don't want you to be depressed on my last night at MyLot. I will be leaving as a daily user. I just don't have the fun I used to here. I will still visit, but I won't be here nearly as much. I want to tell you, and nova too, that I enjoyed chatting with you and will always have fond memories of the time we shared together. Peace and good luck to you Trans. I will miss our silly chats nova. If I don't see Goodie and DFN tonight will you tell them that I will miss their words too? I love you guys and will remember all the times that were the most fun I've ever had, with my clothes on that is :) [cheesehater]

my dad still has his records eventhough he's not using the turntable anymore... i'm keeping an eye on those stuff coz it's vintage and i can use them later on if i would ever design a Pop Art space... my dad has thousands of cds and cassette tapes... i'm not exaggerating! it's needed for our business which is videography and photography... but we keep all our music in our computers and ipods now... and finding a song on-line is as easy as 1,2,3... so no need to buy all those albums ;) XOXOX [princesslexie1001]

Oh don't throw out all your records. There are collectors who will buy this stuff from you. Having said that, yes I do have quite a collection of records. Someone gave me the Yellow Brick Road double album by Elton John. I don't think I've ever listened to it since I was kind of a Black Sabbath kind of girl. I also have Tommy and the list goes on. I can't seem to part with it just yet. As for my CD collection that's pretty small as I get everything from ITunes and LimeWire and stick it all on my Ipod. [gtargirl]

I've got CDs, Tapes, and vinyl. The latter I've had for more than 35 years, 40 in some cases. I had a big sort out just the other day and got rid of the less useful ones to the local annual Book and Record sale, but I've still managed to keep a heavy pile. One of these days I might get a record player again... [mcrowl]

I have probably about 100 lp's still, don't listen to them often - but now and again...there is a certain nostalgia about it. my son hates it because of what he calls all the noise on the record that you do not have on cd, but I think that white noise is part of the charm... I also have over 200 real to real tapes if you can believe it - plus numerous cassettes and about 50 8 tracks.... I do not know how many cd's we have. [Modestah]

I do have some records and tapes somewhere in my house :D But i also have a collection of CD-s and DVD-s since im listen to music a lot and i want my favorite albums to be on CD not on my PC as mp3-s [nosferatu07]

Yes, I will always keep them. I also have 45's. I have an OMD record and Bananarama record and 45. That really ages me and this was only in the 1980's!! [momoftwingirls]

Well; we still keep many Audio Cassettes and listen to them too . Some Audio Cassettes are more than 30 years old purchased by my Father. [ptrikha1]

I still have my records and cassette tapes. The Only reason I have cd's is because the music I wanted Only came in cd form.I have more coutry records than any other genre. I have more homemade rock n roll cassettes than any other genre.I have only a few cds and they are mostly soundtracks and famous vocalists like Frank Sinatra. [sarahruthbeth22]

I still have a few Elvis records and a couple of old kids records and a jolly old record player that kinda plays them, but they are good for a nostalgic listen to the past. My CD collection is not very large but enough to play while working at my computer. I now also have a MP3/Mp4 player which I download songs onto and listen to when I can't sleep at night. Not too bad for a 60yr old I suppose, wonder what technology will be next. [kiwikidz]

In one word "YES" I still have records, both L.P.s, 45s, and some very old and rare 78s I am a former Los Angeles F.M. Disk Jockey, and began collecting the music that I like. I had nearly 13 thousand L.P.s etc, but lost all of them (and two cars, all my furniture, and family albums etc) in the Malibu Canyon fire (the one back in the 90's...not the one last year) When I moved to Arizona (been through two California wildfires, three earthquakes, and numerous floods and mudslides...finally wised up and realized that God was telling me this is not a good place to live) I bagan collecting in Arizona in 2000, and I now have about 4500 to 5000 L.P.s, plus C.D.s, and cassette tapes. I have always enjoyed the openness and warmth of vinyl, as opposed to digital audio, and since music is an ANALOG sound...saving and playing it back in ANALOG form, while anachronistic to many, is quite popular. Also: much of the music I have and enjoy has never been released on CD. I hope you checked out the value of your records before chucking them...some early rock, blues, etc...are worth quite a bit of money, especially if they are in mint-to-good condition, and have good album covers and sleeves. The key to collecting and listening to records is to obtain a quality turntable, with cue lever, and adjustable tracking contols, invest in a good diamond cartridge (cost is anywhere from $65.00 to $750.00) Never touch the grooves - handle by label, and thumb on outside- clean them of dust with a disk preener (looks like a piece of velvet wrapped around a toilet paper core). Never play a record twice in a row - the vinyl is exposed to heat and force when the diamond stylus plays it - playing a record twice in succession can permanently deform the vinyl, beyond it's elastic limits, and cause the record to forever after sound distorted. Records are still made today, and sold...Most are one or two cut large 45's for club D.J.'s and are house mix, Goa, techno, trance etc. I won't bore you by going on ad nauseum...but many many people still collect and enjoy vinyl records...and one benefit is that due to the size...you got lots more pictures, lyrics, and art than inside a CD "jewelbox" Some came with band posters and other cool stuff! When I do Partys (I still D.J.) I have a "coffin" with my Newmark Tables, and Mixer in it, and I also run a computer music database, a high-end C.D. player (can change speed to match beats per minute without altering the pitch of the song) and a cassette tape drive. I can combine live scratch mixes, with samples of other mixes, mixes I've done previously, and computer files. It is a lot of fun, and you actually get paid for it, althtough all the equipment is heavy to haul around! Ciao, Ridgerunner [Ridgerunner]

I still have saved all my records and probably have close to 200 CD's. Just can't resist buying. Now I am starting to buy plenty of music downloads and will probably go overboard with that. I just can't seem to get rid of any of my music collection over the years. [ryzach]

Up until two years ago I had an extensive record collection collecting dust since I didn't have a record player. My older daughter wanted them so I passed them on to her when we moved instead of lugging them 500 miles. I do have quite an extensice CD collection, I have never counted them, but if I listened to one a day I probably couldn't listen to all of them in a year. I stopped buying them since I don't have time to listen to them anyway, my cd player in my car is broken and that is where I used to listen to them. [dlkuku]

I still have all of my record albums. I shipped them over to Scotland when I moved here. A lot of them are collector items and I just don't want to part with them. I have bought a lot of cds as well as they are easier to carry around and play. I prefer the sound off of the album though, it seems to be clearer. That is another reason why I am hanging on to them. So, in answer to your question, I have over 200 record albums,200 cds, about 100 cassette tapes and a handful of 8-track tapes. One of these years I will get the records onto the ipod, but I will still keep them all. [spiritwolf52]

I still have every record, tape, and CD I ever bought because I can't seem to turn loose of any of it. I imagine I have over 1000 records and hard tellin' how many tapes and CD's. Plus I have tapes I've made from records and CD's with favorite songs from each. Now I have an MP3 player full of songs too. [ycanteye]

No I don't have any records I gave them all away or threw them out. I wish now I had kept a few because someday they will be worth money. I have a CD collection but it is a very small collection. I'd say I have about 20 CD's tops. [robsbrooklyngirl]

Hi Maximax, Yes, I still have some of my records, a lot of them have been misplaced, they are probably packed in boxes some where, But you have given me a great idea. I never once thought to put my records on CD. I have a large collection of Mp3's that I have been putting on Disc. I think I will try and do that sometime in the near future. Thanks for starting this discussion. Hugs~ [TazRes]

I only have about a dozen records left, but I have thousands of CDs. Recently we filed them all into flight cases and put the CD cases into storage just to save some room in the house. Now I wish I could figure out a way to do the same with books! [onesiobhan]

I think I have about 450-500 CDs in my collection. [Vintervarg]

I had over 50 record albums 10 years ago and when hubby and I neeeded to move to another state, we decided to sell them. We had begun replacing them with CDs at the time, but had not replaced all of them. Now we have most of our music as mp3s and have made CDs from the mp3s or just listen to the music via our computers/speakers. We do make some CDs to use in the car and other Rooms of the house other than where the computer is located. I still regret having sold all the albums though, there was just something about those that represented my youth or something! [crazynurse]

Hi! Oh yes! in my collection are about 500 records! I am absolute music lover! but not of all music, don't like pop music... [gadabout21]

Records or LP's (Long Playing) do have a Variable Value and the Older the better and if You have a Good Collection a Catalog can be Purchased at any Book Shop like Barnes & Noble, Borders etc... I have over 300 Reoords, 100 Cd's, 300 Cassettes & 6 8 Track Tapes. [mrgpk66]

I recently decided to do the same but still nothing is materialised. It's one of the very good ideas of clutter management. [vsraovsr]

I have many 78 , LPs, Tapes and CDS. My favourites are DVDS. I play CDS and DVDS on my computer. I wish I could have the equipment to put all my records and tapes on CDs. [CAMILLERI]

i have cds used to have records about 10 yeasrs ago now i supose cds are mcuh better i have a good collection but nto a huge one really [dlphnrdr]

My husband and I still have a ton of records and we still play them regularly. We also have CD's and play those too, but all our old music is on records still. I love to listen to the records even though the sound isn't as good on them as the CD's but that's okay. We have some records that go back to the 60's and 70's, and those are some of my favourites. My daughter, who is now 25 years old, wants us to leave our records and our record player, to her when we are gone. She loves to listen to them too. [chrislotz]

I still have a huge record collection and still listen to them at least once a week. Plus records sound so much better to the compressed garbage you get on CDs (the music is fine any other way I just dislike CDs in general). You can tell the difference between them if you have a good enough setup (or hearing :D). [trinsic]

Like you the music i havee is taped or on my laptop. But i only have six cds!!! Im always in the charity shops and i see some really good records ...which makes me wish i had a turntable... I though about getting one..as they arent too expensive...but the problem is they take space...space is a thing that im short of....so im not going to fall for it!! My son has a massive cd collection...literally hundreds!!!He spands a fortune on them!!! [ruby222]

I´ve no records, but I´ve lots of tapes. As I ever listen to them,I phoned a company and ask how much I must pay,so they can transfer the material to CD´s. Don´t remember what it should cost, but I think I have to pay over §200 if I want to transfer all. I´ve about 20 CD´s with music that I´ve been downloaded from the net [Lavazza]

No,it was a long time since I had vinyl discs.I´ve a few tapes, but don´t know where to listen on them. Now adays I download all music I like, and then burn it to CD´s.I´ve quite many CD`s [Sthlm_59]

I have many records that I still enjoy. Many of them were give to me from my Great-Grandparents. I love the old country songs. Yes, I still have cassette tapes also. My cd player in the truck quit working so I use the tapes for music while I'm driving. [Amber4106]

when i was young, i have collect some records, but now when i look back , i find some of them are not interested to me, but others always beside me, and spend my life with me through the hard times. i prefer enjoy the band od linkin park, like 'in the end'and 'faint'. [qazqwezhang]

I still have my record collection from the 60's and 70's but I must admit I never listen to them these days [austinbell]
