How Many Of You Have Attempted To Learn Or Play An Instrument

How many of you out there have learned or tried to learn to play some sort of instrument? Which instrument did you choose? Why did you want to learn? Why did you stop learning if you gave up?I play a lot of different ones but the piano, drums and guitar are my all time favorite instruments to learn. I am pretty decent with them except guitar and piano are ones that if you dont play for awhile you really get rusty and its frusterating when you pick it up again and cant do what you use to. Whats some of your musical experience?

I started playing the piano when I was six years old and continued to take lessons on it until I was fourteen years old. I can actually still play the piano pretty well, I might not be able to go up and down the keys like I used to, but I can still play well enough to play some of my sheet music that I still have. I also started playing the viola when I was nine years old and continued in the school orchestra with that until I was fifteen years old. Then, in college I took it up again for a time with private lessons at school. That, I can still play to a very small degree but not nearly as well as I'd like to. I still have my viola with hopes that one day either my son or my daughter will decide to play it. Otherwise, it is still a beautiful instrument. [dorannmwin]

I do not play any instrument but I can sing well.Ilearnt classical music and it was with a very good teacher. Later I also conducted classes. Now all this has stopped due to recurring throat problems. As I have a good voice and vocal is the easiest I chose this.I saw to it thta my son learned how to play the violin and he had a real flair for it.Now with his busy schedule it is all rusting. Yes, I have. I picked the drums two years ago and wanted to learn how to play them because they're my favorite musical instrument. I did stop recently because I'm moving on to learning some bass guitar now. In fact, just ordered my first bass today...can't wait for it to arrive in here. [Eisenherz]
Yeah, so I've heard :) I hope to eventually drop the pick shortly after, from what I know even if you're not quite strong enough in your fingers, you'll still feel more loose when playing with withouth the pick. Drums were also harsh in my hands, going as far as to days of bleeding and blisters so it shouldn't be too weird for me ;) Good drumming! [Eisenherz]

My mom tried to teach me piano years ago. When it didn't take, they threw a guitar in my lap for me to learn. I've been playing the strings...guitar and bass for 15 years now. Trying to learn drums...piano is a little rusty, but I can manage a little bit. Have fun! Dive Deep! [ChaoticBeauty]

I play saxophone and guitar, and must say sax is a beautiful instrument to play. I was also member of the orchestra in my hometown. But playing guitar is something completely different. [egosbeat]
I would love to learn to play sax it really is a wonderufl instrument [BStuff]

I played guitar for 20 years...gave it up because I lost part of a finger in an oilfield accident. [The_Lamb_Lies_Down]

I attempted to learn the viola in 4th grade. Soon, sadly, I was to discover that instrument playing and spasticity didn't go well together. I only took lessons for four months. It's funny. Most days I'm not sorry I don't walk, but I really wish my arms were capable of more things like drawing or playing an instrument. People always think that's weird, but I don't have any particular attachment to walking for anything I would like to do except jump off a diving board or wear point shoes in a ballet class. Other than that, most of the stuff I want to do is all upper body related. I think this is because I can control my upper body more and, therefore, upper body stuff seems more attainable to me so I miss it. [cripfemme]

Well i have tried to play three different instruments and then i found the one that was right for me. I have tried the drums the trumpet and now i play the clarinet. I stopped playing the first two because it just wasn't really rite for me. With the Drums i wanted to do it because i thought the people who played looked pretty cool and it would be easy but it really wasn't so i gave it up. Then i tried the trumpet because it was new but i couldn't seem to grasp that you had to change the pitch with your mouth so i said good bye to that and now im in love with my clarinet. [jerrismith]

I used to take piano lessons when I was really little, but my teacher moved away so I stopped. A few years later, I got a program to teach yourself piano, so I did that, and now I am currently teaching myself to read music. So far it is going awesome and I cannot wait to really get good at it. [Thepinkbookworm]

When I was little, my school let us to study playing the flute. And therefore I learned a little of it and I could play one song with flute. But actually I have no gift in music:) My son is in the kindergarten now and he studies to play the piano. I hope he will learn it because music is important. I love China [youless]

I've tried to learn how to play the piano but I guess I was really ill-tempered to learn. What's bad is, I was really impatient. I also tried to learn how to play the guitar but after learning some keys it was stopped because the guitar was destroyed. I hope I could have the chance to learn the two instruments again. After all, its really interesting. [l_bernal]

When I was 10 years of age I tried to study how to play the piano but I got sick so i stopped. When Im about to enrol again for the next batch, the instructor was alrady out of the country. I love to play piano, although I know how to play a bit i just want to learn totally. [junmae]

I was enrolled to learn piano back then. My teacher was a very strict old lady. I was afraid then to see her. So instead of goin to her house i just opt for a basketball game. [iceydon]

I have attempted almost 10 times to play piano and 5 times to play the guitar. It is very hard for me to memorize the notes and chords on which key to press, which string to pluck and all. I really love to listen music, but when it comes to playing instrument. Well, it is just not my style. [marctiu]

hi! i play guitar but not as good as before. lots of new pieces that am not aware of nowadays. it was so much fun. in fact, i still have my electric guitar hidden at the back of my study table. am playing it and clean it once in a while for maintenance. i learned to play guitar back in highschool, taught by my guy bestfriend who used to visit me in our hometown to get a free snack evryday, haha! i was using an ovation at that time, it was brother's but i was using it most of the time. now, whenever i tried to play my fingers on strings, be it nylon or not, ouch, and there goes callouses but will be gone eventually. still, my passion for music never stop. :) [cherrc]

I took a few violin classes a long time ago, but stopped playing it. Only recently I have started playing a little again. Its very rusty at the moment, but its getting there slowly. I learned the keyboard on my own and also the guitar with the help of my cousins music books. I Havent played those instruments for sometime now, so it will be interesting to see how I go. [Mac6999]

hello! ive started learning guitar, itz been a month or so ..im surprised that i can play many tunes now..i wanted to learn becoz i love music..i ll never give u! [dr_ankita]

when i was in grade school, i used to play flute (soprano, tenor then bass) we go to competition and we're earning popularity because of that. but it ended when i graduated. i tried to learn playing guitar but it's close to impossible and it bores me somehow. im a music lover but playing an instrument would complicate my life. [thaMARKER]

Our parents enrolled me and my sister to piano lessons way back when I was in fourth grade. I wasn't really good with it and learned a bit slowly. Guess I wasn't for piano. We stopped taking the lessons when our tutor got into an accident after a really big earthquake. But during the summer vacation on my sophomore year in high school, I tried learning to play the guitar on my own just because I didn't have anything to do that time. I ended up having the guitar as my primary musical instrument, and practically the only one I could play. Yeah, it gets you rusty sometimes when you haven't played for so long. But once you learned it, you can never unlearn. It's sort of like riding a bike. [forptc]

I have always wanted to learn every instrument we have at home but was never successful in doing so. My brother knows every instrument there is to form a band. He can actually be considered a one-man-band so I asked him to teach me a few of his instruments.I started learning the drums because I thought it is rare that you see a band with a girl on the drums and it feels like playing it would give you te sense of freedom. I tried learning it for a month or so but then since I got busy with college, I had to stop. There was never a chance again that he taught me because the drumset was brought to the province. THe only instruments left at our house right now are the guitars and the keyboards but I still couldn't find time to learn them. My brother has gotten busy wit work as well so there couldn't be any chance. I still do hope that someday I will be able to learn even a single instrument. I always envy those people who know how to play one. There are even those people who would just borrow the instrument they want to play because they can't afford to buy one. having most of the instruments at home makes me much more upset because I have everything and still couldn't find a chance to learn even a single one. [calai618]

well, i am a person whose tastes change according to my whim and fancy and this is exactly what happened to my guitar classes. One day i just burst into my house when i was in my 4th or 5th class and informed my mother that i wanted to start guitar classes. Then after classes began, the guitar teacher said i wasnt holding the guitar properly and that i aint holding the strings tightly.. and there went my interest!! From that dat forwards, i stopped going for classes and havent touched my guitar since... i regret doing so.. but never managed to force myself to continue it..sad [Nisha_Verghese]

i have never tried to learn to play an instrument but i always wanted to play the piano for some reason. just never pursued it. i think if you want to learn the piano you should have one at home to practice on and we could never afford one so i just never bothered to pursue it. maybe someday..... [mikeysmom]

i hav and i am curently playing the guitar... i m not taking formal training.. but i read online tutorials... [udnisak]

I think my first instrument has to be the violin. Though I never got to truly learn how to play it. I was in the school band long enough to learn how to hold and play some simple notes. Then much later during Junior high I started learning how to play the guitar and the piano. I'm pretty good with both but I'd have to choose the guitar since its much easier to remember the chords. Though I have gotten a bit rusty since I've been busy with college and stuff. I really to make some time and tune my guitar skills. [sybraton]

I haven't played any instruments.I want to learn one or more, but i have not enough time.I am an adult now and my age to learn to play instrument have gone.i so envy you.Just enjoy your playing.Cheers! [yuhongchao1981]

I learned how to play the guitar and piano. I still play and havent given up. Been playing since I was 14. [rg0205]

I took piano lessons when I was a kid, I didn't want to and hated my piano teacher. I didn't learn much from her and remember her taking a pencil eraser up my back to make me sit up straight. I quit. On occasion I'll sit down and play if I'm in the mood to do it but it isn't impressive to anyone but me. [mzz663]

When I was a kid, I want to learn how to play drums. But I don't take it seriously though, because my parents can't afford to enroll me for drum lessons. When I got in HS, I engaged myself in learning how to play guitars. Then suddenly, my friends and I formed a band and I became the bass guitarist. We performed in our school's halloween party :) haha! We went to different schools in college, we've been very busy and it's hard to meet and jam. Due to this, we are quite disbanded. I found another band in college and got busy again. Hahaha! And even though Im not a kid anymore, I still wanted to learn how to play drums. :) And Oh, I even tried to learn how to play violin. But, I guess it's not for me. Hahaha! (So far, this is my longest comment. lol! :D ) [angguloy]

When I was about 12 or 13 I decided I wanted to learn to play the piano. My parents arranged for lessons which I took for a couple of years, but in time I realized I had no talent and that my parents were just wasting their money. Of course the lessons stopped. My problem was that my fingers would get tangled up in knots. [6precious102]

ME! I can play the piano [K46620]

This is what I'm doing right now! I recently purchased an electronic keyboard and I absolutely love it. I know these things have been around for many years now but all the same, I'm just getting started with it. I love the sound of the piano and this is one of the main reasons that I want to learn. Also, I just know that I'm going to experience a sense of achievement if I persevere with it. I don't know how to read sheet music or anything so I'm learning how to play by ear. I will hopefully learn how to read sheet music later on. I think that playing the piano is also good for the mind and tends to help you concentrate better, I don' know whether this is true or not but it's something I've heard. At the present time I'm learning how to play the 'Ave Maria', I really like this piece of music. Andrew [AndrewFreyne]

I choosed to play the guitar. I still play till this day. I do say I am not very good at it though. I taugh myself how to play. Wasn't that hard to learn though. You just needed to learn the strings and the fret's and things like that. It's hard to play chords though. [Melbee11]
