Because I believe rock still lives.
Because I think there are MANY great rock bands making GREAT music.
Because I love my rock...I am a "snob".
At least, that is what one uneducated person told me.thumbdown
They didn't bother to ask if I listen to Jazz (I do) or Country (I do) or Blues (I do) or anything...they just called me a snob because I pointed out that ROCK IS NOT DEAD.
It is a TOTAL lack of manners to judge someone because of what they like to listen to...but manners seem to be dead...unlike Rock.
What say you? Do you insult people because of what they listen to?

responses and comments:
hi lamb well then I must be one too as I like rock, and jazz and country , blues and also love the beatles, and some make fun of me because I am a Mozart listener and love classic music via Mozart, also love the Beatles and so what. I never make fun or insult others because of what they liked to listen too. We are all so different.I also love some Folk music. I just really like a lot of different types of music. lol lol lol.lollol [Hatley]
Not at all. People have told me they like rap and I just say I like some but very little of it. Its all up to the person and their choice. I can't believe someone would call you a snob because you like rock music. I would never insult anyone because of the type of music they liked. I think he is the one that is a snob for thinking that of you. Why can't we all just like what we like and not care what the other person is in to. I just don't seem to understand people who act this way. [lelin1123]
Well.. I do recall a snooty comment I made to somebody when I was younger and snippier. And I would have a hard time acting interested if somebody started talking about (c)rap, but in general I keepa my big mouth shut and my opinions to myself. I'm much more inclined to say something like "I'm not really interested in that myself, I prefer..." unless the person I'm talking to starts off by insulting my taste. [dawnald]
I do not insult people for what they listen to. I might, instead, insult the person or group that they are listening to lol For instance, my daughter loves Lady Gaga. I don't insult her, but I do insult Lady Gaga, someone I think is tryulu awful as a singer and someone I personally think is rather ugly looking happy [fwidman]
Plenty of rocks over this way Lamby, just try not to fall over them when you come to lie on my feet.happy [thea09]
Rolling Stones Rock Zed!lol [Capsicum]
Someone who listens to rock is a snob? blink I thought a snob was something completely different but maybe the times have changed. I don't tag anyone. We are all individuals and as such have choices and opinions to which each one has a right to. Live and let live. One man's meat is another man's poison and so on. Who am I (or anyone else for that matter) to say that one style of music is better or worse than another? Long live music in any shape or form as it is, in my opinion, the only thing which unites us all in this day and age! [mysdianait]
All in seven notes my dear. :) [vandana7]
Rock is so NOT dead. haha! I never insult people on what they lis... Oh wait... Darn. Yeah I do... When my mom blasts her Britney Spears cd on the boise, I always make some kind of comment that involves Britney Spears' voice and me-ending in death by listening to it... [SpaghettiEqualsYUMM]
You're a snob because you like rock?!? Does that person even know the meaning of the word? Rock may not be dead but that person's brain cells seem to be. (I listen to pretty much everything, unless it annoys me. happy) [BarBaraPrz]
Snob? ..Lol. What a silly person you've encountered. Did you know her/him or it was just a random guy? I don't think that a music genre can really die. It keep existing, even if it's in the middle of nowhere. [Jargoness]
Oh, sounds like they meant to say you were a "know it all" and are confused as to the definition of a snob. I'm guessing they are young and daft! Isn't it the younger generation that 'knows it all'? lol Been there, done that, too. [AnnieOakley1]
The only thing I can say that I am a snob about is maybe food..lol. Rock is so not dead..I love it..although my husband doesn't have a preference for it at all. So the only time I get to listen to it is when he isn't home. [mtdewgurl74]
Who the heck said ROCK is dead? doh I love classic rock, not the really hard rock. The hubby likes it and he calls it headbanger music. lol Nope, I don't criticize someone for the music they like. Why? What would be the point? I like country music the best myself. [AnnieOakley1]
Well, I love rock music, so maybe I am snob...how would you call woman snob? lollol I also listen to Jazz, but Rock is my all time favorite!!!!!! I don't care if someone call me snob!!!!!! HUGS [polachicago]
I try not to insult people, Lamb, certainly not blatantly.rolleyes.. I actually ALWAYS listen to ONLY rock BANDIT ROCK 106.3!! on the car radio and other 'Swedish' stuff too if I play tapes.. and yes.. other genre as well on the player. Does that mean I am a snob?? I don't think so. I suppose I could become one it someone decided to call me that.. you know.. turn up my nose and raise my chin, raise my eyebrows, turn abruptly with smirk on face and walk away!! OMG Lamb!! is THAT what YOU did?? No wonder!!w00t [fjaril]
No notifier here doh Black Italian espresso and Eric Clapton, Mark Knopfler and the like for starters. The band in the video on my profile are a close follow up too wub [mysdianait]
You a snob? The one that made sure I know who Dio is now and for all time? Lol. Damn that person is a damn idiot. Rock is dead my asss. Rock will never die. Though I guess I could be considered one since all I really listen to is rock, heavy metal and death metal lol. [Proud_Pagan_Gamer]
u suck ninja [blackbriar]
I always thought the word snob would refer more to someone with "highbrow" tastes, such as classical music and philosophical discussions, and who look down on "lower" (in their estimation)types. Thankfully, we are all individuals and we each have our distinct likes and dislikes which make us unique. While I might not choose to listen to some music (in fact I couldn't call some of it music) each person is free to choose for him/herself and their choice in music doesn't change the person they are. If a person is to be judged, it would be on the basis of their inner qualities of trustworthiness, integrity, caring nature, loyalty, respect . . . and the list goes on. [cloudwatcher]
I dont know which music is called rock, or which is the blues. :) I listen to Hindi film songs, enjoy Backstreet boys, and Abba. So call me a snob, and you'd have company. :) [vandana7]
Enter the Dragon! Lamb's changed his avatar! Hi handsome! Somebody on mylot is going to kidnap you. Just let me know when you need rescuing. LOL. [vandana7]
only if they listen to rap. [skyhss]
Insult someone because of the music they like? Nope, not me. Anyone who labels me for my preference in music, clothing, or anything else, will not find space to rent in my head! Someone who judges others based on those petty little preferences just isn't worth my time or energy. That's why I refuse to do battle with an unarmed man. Plus, I almost never listen to music and I don't watch television either, so I am already two steps behind the eight ball when it comes to judging others on their personal tastes in either category. [malamar]
Your no snob, Lamb..far from it, actually. Whoever called you this just cause of what you like to listen to is totally clueless on really good music. ROCK IS ALIVE!!!!!! To answer your question...nope..even if ya listen to opera, I'll behave. Just don't make me LISTEN to it. [blackbriar]
On another forum I post on, there was a question which asked Do you judge someone by the music they listen to? Obviously I said no, and I was amazed by the number of replies which said the opposite. So, maybe the world has changed, and maybe this total lack of manners on a subject like this is now seen as acceptable Do you insult people because of what they listen to? No, [vonmac]
Well, I don't know Mikey. I, too, listen to several genres of music although country is my favorite, especially the old time country. I do agree that manners are a thing of the past. In fact I think I have made that statement in several discussions. I really don't know why some people feel that they must put everybody down. Maybe it's the only way they can feel good about themselves. Go figure. [savak03]
oops that was supposed to be mixit up. blush [savak03]
Insulting people does no one any good. Actually, it shows a lack of manners. Insults hurt feelings. It also leaves one with a negative feeling toward the one who hurled the insult. As for music, I like a variety of tunes. Yes, rock is one I like. [royal52gens]
Everyone has a preference when it comes to music. Some like one specific type and stick with it, others go between one or two. I like many genres. I don't condemn a person for liking any type of music. To each their own. [ElusiveButterfly]
I would have took some heavy metal and blasted it right in that persons ears and gave them the finger! And just walked away. HEE HEE L.O.L. ROCK ON! [jahernandezrivas]
I guess for me personally i listen to all kinds of music, yes rock more than others. Music is such a personal area that i dont think someone should judge another based on the type of music they listen to. I would say the one that called you a sob is actually the one with the problem. Why would it matter to them what someone elses preference is, i probly wouda told them if ya dont like it dont listen lol But thats just the type of out spoken person ive grown to be lol. Rock on! [good2go2001]
I might insult someone's taste in music (because, let's face it, some music is really atrocious), or insult the music itself, but I don't think it's terribly appropriate to insult the person him/herself. Musical taste, after all, is a very personal and subjective thing. It's interesting, though, that their choice of insult was 'snob.' Seriously? That's not usually a term you hear thrown about when you're talking about rock music! Crude, rude, loud, abrasive, raunchy....those are the words people usually apply. I'd have to agree with you - anyone who thinks rock is dead is sadly misinformed. [angie497]
I have never been called a snob, and like you, I love rock. Howeve I like most kind of music also, but I'm a rocker at heart, not a snob! [mipen2006]
I wouldn't insult anyone for listening to rock music. It's definitely not my choice of music but that doesn't mean others want to listen to the Oldies or country rock as I do. I love the old songs from the '60's since I can really relate and the songs bring back good memories of my teen years. I also love blues. Our kids like rock and that's fine. Guess you need to consider the source when someone tells you that you are a snob for listening to rock. I say it sounds like this person was rude. [carolbee]
Hi lamby. Yet another genuine discussion First of all I had to check the exact meaning of snob in google as I have never heard of it before. When I googled it, I got it as like this : imitating, cultivating social superiors. Well, I don't get the exact meaning but I can say that it is something insulting to say someone just because the person listens to something different. I never insult people just because they listen to something strange which is completely alien to me, in fact I admire the fact that the are people who like unique things and not same stuff. I also would like to say that I completely 500 posts with this response. [pupupd]
You are right, Lamby...rock never die, lol.. It's actually interesting to find out what type of music genre different people like and listen to. I like all sorts... if someone is to judge others from what they listen to, I think it's not cool at all. [zed_k4]
I'd be a huge hypocrite if I were to insult or pick on anyone for what they listen to. My music of choice is rock and it is without a doubt NOT DEAD! That being said, I like music. If someone has country on...I listen and I like it...just don't go out of my way to find it. Same with lots of other music. There is some music that I listen to that pretty much no one really cares for but it reminds me of someone or a time in my life...Its all good. There are songs that I don't like but I could never say there is a genre of music that I absolutely don't like. Bottom line...even if I didn't care for it...no reason to insult someone. [sid556]
I'm still scratching my head over this one wondering how that works. Being called a snob due to your music preference is...strange. I guess I can't consider myself to be a complete snob since I don't listen to a lot of rock music. And it can't be dead if people are still listening to it, be it classic rock or these modern ones. I honestly don't care what type of music people like to listen too. Everyone has their own taste and preference. Even if I didn't like the genre of music I wouldn't flat out insult a person because of it. There are better things to insult a person for besides their choice in music lol... [saizo6]
Nope, I insult people if they are stupid and insult people because of what they listen to! [CristiansNana]
I cannot for the life of me even find a inkling, of what the person is trying to say. Either they are ignorant beyond my comprehension, Or reading the dictionary upside downdoh. Music is what it is depressing or uplifting ,Certainly not a personality trait. This sounds like something that a third grader would say for lack of better words. There is no question in my mind that the person who has called you a snob for liking a type of music ,Has probably never listened to music.Funny that when we gather with each other music is often the biggest form of entertainment next to socializing. This one has me baffled rolleyes [Capsicum]
You have pointed out that the person is uneducated. It explains that person's uncivilized ,uncultured attitude. That explains everything I think. I am educated to some extent to not do this to anyone.happy [balasri]
Oh man....I get that all the time. I detest the new country but love the old country. I do not make fun of those that like Taylor Swift....just don't make me listen to it. I love blues, R&B, Rock, classical, and now Celtic. You should see the looks I get when someone hears what I'm listening to now.....they all act like I've lost my ever livin mind.... Music is very personal and some people really get riled about it. But a snob? The Websters definition of snobbery is this..." one who tends to rebuff, avoid, or ignore those regarded as inferior b : one who has an offensive air of superiority in matters of knowledge or taste"....I've never really thought of you as a snob Lamb....just really knowledgeable about things..... [hornswaggled]
Nope, I will support for whatever her or his answer. People do have different opinions and if that's your opinion then I don't have any problem with that... [joannaleed]
i wouldnt worry about them they are just really stuipd thinking that. people are so funny at time for real. [syankee525]
Hi Lamb, So, you are a snob for liking rock and what does make the other party who believes that rock is dead? Looks like we have a troll here. I just don't see any point or whatever for the other party to do such a thing. (Preparing my slingshot as we speak!!) I wonder what's got over him/her there?? Maybe, the party at the other end is a fan of Bons Jovilol..... You a snob? I don't think so...ABSOLUTELY NOT! Take care. [skysuccess]
You are? I mean you choice is your choice. That is your preference, and as I see it you have the freedom to choose what you want to even if others say that it is rubbish. [catilda]
No I'm pretty open to new experiences. My dad played me something just recently he'd written when he was sixteen . It was really great and I was impressed that he had such a grasp on relationships back then. I like the big band stuff myself, right now, I wish I'd been born in the roaring 20's. But then I think that maybe not, I mean sure the music was great but there were a lot of hardships back then. I'm not one for dealing with depressions and I don't know what I'd do if a war suddenly broke out here in Canada. Anyway it's great to hear from you and I like rock too. I don't think you're a snob. [doglady112]
surely not... my favourite kind of music is a rare type of song.....FOLK METAL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! call me everything u want...but i love folk metal...go listening to ensiferum-iron or johansson-samurai [Hawnkblade]
Whoever said that to you is just an idiot! sad Music is such a personal, intimate thing. It is a huge part of many people's life, and I don't think that anyone should ever insult people because of their music taste. There is tons of music I like, ranging from country to pop to hard rock. There is also music I don't like, but I don't go around seeking out people who like those kinds of music and insulting them. I simply don't listen to anything I don't like. There is so much music that I like, that it really doesn't matter what other people like, or what they think. I am the type that can listen to Green Day one minute and Taylor Swift the next. That is just me. I also don't believe a person is ever "too old" for certain music, I am 26, and I love to rock out to Hannah Montana and the Jonas Brothers, that is just who I am. lol Music has always been such an important thing for me, and it definitely is a release, if I'm depressed I tend to listen to music I can relate to and feel less alone, and if I feel like not really thinking and let go I'll listen to fun pop/dance music. Until I was in middle school I was raised on country music mostly, then I started going to dances and hearing different music, my favorite from that time period is probably Ace of Base. happy My tastes since then have only grown, the older I get, the less I care about what people think about music I like. If they want to talk trash about me because they don't like my music, they are just losers, not worth my time. [greysfreak]
I agree. Rock is definitely not dead! It is alive and well here. [/em I remember rock being a bit sick in the late eighties, but thankfully it recovered. Sure, there are loads of other styles of music that are popular with the youth of today but rock is still strong and always will be. happy I used to be a bit snobby with others who were into music which I considered "not real music". This was mainly because music is a big interest of mine and I found it easier to converse with others who felt the same way about music that I did. I have branched my musical tastes out a little further these days and am more open minded to other forms of music that are not rock. But I do still dislike the monotonous music that is being made by some popular "musicians" just for the fame and money. It is not the art form that I feel music should be. thumbdown [RawBill1]
Well one does like to rock out of an evening don't y'know? What do you define as "real rock?" I'm just curious, because I think what I think of as rock, real rockers would probably sneer at as commercialised, but then again, maybe they wouldn't. I would not judge someone because of what they listened to, that would be ignorant, and I aint ignant! [3cardmonte]
Hey Lamby! Of course I still love rock and always will! I love alot of different kinds of music and don't put anyone down for liking what they like! I love many of the "old time rock bands" and still love to "rock on out" to them anyday anytime! In fact, tonight I am listening to Pink Floyd and Led Zepplin on my CD Player! And guess what! Before that I was listening to my new Rhianna CD that "rocks" in a different way! It is down and rancy rock, but I still love it! So sue me! I like what I like too and am not going to apologize!!!!! I was always a "Rock Queen" and will always be! Rock on!!!!Oh, yeah, the louder the better!winkw00t [Opal26]
No. Even if all you listened to was rock, that is your preference and I would respect that. Music is good for the soul and which ever genre moves you most is fine with me! [thebohemianheart]
LOL if they called you a snob about music it's only because they haven't met me. I am a proud indie snob and I don't try to hide it..lol [sndcain36]
People like to judge don't they? When they don't even no you. I like many types of music. Rock music is still around. But I like to listen to a little of everything except for screaming music. To me the words just never come out right when someone is screaming them out. I like a lot of other music though. [strawberrybaby39]
Yes, actually, if I'm to be honest, I guess I do...maybe not out loud but I think insulting thoughts. In fact, I think insulting thoughts about lots of people for lots of reasons that I disagree with. I'm not perfect and I'm certainly not tolerant but I do like rock music. I also listen to classical and country ...I even like elevator music. cool [MsTickle]
That's pretty rude! It seems quite shallow to make judgement on someone because of the music they like, how stupid! I don't get the 'snob' reference either, why should it make you a snob anyway? I hate rap and the like and my sister loves it and she keeps blue toothing me all these songs I have no taste for and I haven't got the heart to tell her that what she listens is not to my liking at all; we must respect one another's differences. [paula27661]
nope.i grew up a KISS fan,and got enough grief from others about it. only time i have a real problem with other people's music is when it's being blasted from a car at 3 am waking up my mom.angry [scarlet_woman]
But why did that Person call you a Snob????? I don't get it why you are a Snob because you believe that Rock is still alive confused [gabs8513]
Not Generally, although I am not a huge rap fan.. I did like the original Rappers.. the Sugar Hill Gang back in the 70's :-) Oh and Anthrax's Rap "I'm the Man" -funny as hell.. I like most types of music.. not too much Country either.. But if I have to pick a genre I can't live with out it is ROCK.. so I guess I am a Snob too.. Can I join your club?? what do you need to get in? I got proof.. [minx267]
I don't insult anyone based on what they listen to... but as far as your circumstance goes... I wasn't there for the conversation, but perhaps it was the mannerism in which you voiced your opinion that rock is not dead. I can only see a small picture of you, but I believe I see long hair and a bandana. I'm guessing that when you started going on about rock music not being dead, they looked at your attire and put you in that "ROCKER" catagory. And by that I mean the ones (which I am NOT saying you are) who are 40, 50, 60 years old and still have the mentallity of a 20 year old. They talk about partying and drinking and smoking and ROCK'N'ROLL!!!! I'm guessing its just one of those instances of you being judged based on appearance... if that makes any sense [shell2784]
I do not insult people because of things they like. Even if a person deserves to be insulted, which I never really came across a time where that is valued as true, I still would not. Perhaps it is my personality. I certainly do not like altercations. And I certainly do not like to be involved in them. If a person is against you just because you do not have the same thoughts on music, this person is probably the same about a lot of things in life. It is sad that nowadyas people still cannot accept others that are different. No matter how small it is. Reading this discussion I just cannot help but to think of a term that I had learned in school ethnocentrism. As long as you are like me we are good. If not, well then, then apparently your a "snob". . .by the way, I like all sorts of music. Except for rap that is. So even if you listened to rap I wouldn't think anything bad of you. [mlhuff12]
It really annoys me when somebody judges you based solely on your musical preferences and tastes. Music elitists infuriate me so much with their "oh so much better than your music" attitudeangryangry [MrKennedy]
I come from a music background, I owned my own "rock" rehearsal studio and I was lead guitar in an original/cover rock band. My wife likes country and so do I (well at least some of it) My dad was split between country & classical (wow what a split, I hope he didn't hurt himself) My mom, hmmmm what can I say, she would sing along to the music in the doctor office, well we cant have it all! But to answer your question, it's quite small minded to judge someone because of what music they like to listen to. [Bellerophon]
Geez, heck no. I listen to all types of music. It's my life. I appreciate music from all countries. It moves me and will always be with me. The question really is, how can you insult other cultures and not appreciate their music? [libby2009]
