It Just Does Something To Me.

Have you ever heard a song for the first time and wanted to listen to it over and over again for a bit? Like there is just something about it that does something to you. If this happens to you, is it the words you are usually responding to? The music alone? What is it about music that does something to you? Got a song to share with us? A youtube link?

Yes, Into The Mystic by Van Morrison. That song hit me as soon as I heard it and I've never forgotten it. I'm not really sure what it is. I know I love the sound of his voice and hearing the instruments....I don't really know. There isn't an original on youtube, and you MUST, simply MUST hear Van sing it. So.......... [Irishfrndly65]
I guess it is! LOL! [Irishfrndly65]

Music gives joy to the soul and everyone has his or her own choice of music. I love hip hop and blues mostly and what makes me really love a particular song is the lyrics and beating. [tonydollar01]
Yes, that is the beauty of music. That it affects each of us differently. [makingpots]

I like songs that bring back memories. I could not for the life of me remember the name of a band but I just remembered the name of the song and looked it up on youtube. I played the song and I felt like I was 19 years old again! It reminds me of a morning following the night my girlfriend and I were out all night. We had just stepped into my apartment and I think we lit up a joint and I turned on this song and I started dancing and she told me I look like a sexy secretary because I was wearing a silk blouse and a tight skirt that came up just above my knees and high heels! My hair looked really good too that morning too, I even remember what I was wearing, it was a fun moment and we must have had a great night the night before to be in such a good mood still. The bands name is N2Deep and the song was Back to the Hotel. [oraclemv]
LOVE for music to take me back to a memory like that! There are a few songs that take me back to such vivid memories I could probably even remember what I was wearing. Sexy secretary. haha [makingpots]

Hello makingpots, I love the beats too most music tracks because I tend to pick up the lyrics later after the song is old LOL. [reasco1]
Hi, reasco1. I like learning what others are drawn to about music. [makingpots]

I have always been a very heavy sleeper. For some reason Madonnas song from the movie Dlck Tracy, "Hanky Panky", always woke me up and that's how my kids would wake me up. Here's a link to one of the many live versions from her concerts of this song. Enjoy it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PMzbyY49P_0&feature=related HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ [webeishere]
Yeah I have mentioned that song a few times here. HAPPY POSTINGS FROM GRANDPA BOB !!~ [webeishere]

It depends on my mood as to whether it is the music or the lyrics that touch me. Right now, one that I listen to over and over is this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B0Dlwz6XIYk And it's the words and music together. I listen to this on my music player on the computer, so it sounds better than the one on youtube. [thebohemianheart]
That's beautiful, Bo. Thanks for the link. [makingpots]

'listen to it over and over again for a bit' For a bit of what I would ask myself first. wink Right now I have a song in my head, but it is very personal, so I am not sure I can post it on here. I have other songs which have touched me, which is good because I am touched. Aerosmith is one with this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vo_0UXRY_rY&feature=related I also have always loved this song and whenever I was getting to know a new girl, I too would wonder this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g_dduKiZb6w I also think I should introduce you to possibly the greatest and saddest love song of all time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cLKaLvrtn-8&feature=related And I have one more if you don't mind. This one is a puzzle that has evaded me for years now and I need to know the answer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vXp0i7Y1eVo Bored yet? lol [Scoop_Dogg]
Going down? loldroolshocked [Scoop_Dogg]

i love music but all i listen to is oldies but goodies. i very seldom hera an oldie that it doesn't bring back some lind of memories. i love the music but guess the words are what i really pat attention to. [ANTIQUELADY]
they do bring back special. there are songs that remind me of my sister to. i lost her in 1962 but i'll never forget her. cherish that sister, they are special. [ANTIQUELADY]

first time I heard Love is Blue I swear I had heard it in a dream the morning before I woke up, WOW, with my lousy memory, I can still remember that dream! [ElicBxn]
the dream was pretty special too [ElicBxn]

With me it is always the music that grabs me very seldom do the words mean anything. Not since my teenage days have I really listened or got any meaning from the lyrics. [whiteheather39]
Hi, whiteheather. I'm often drawn in first by the music. [makingpots]

Hi pots! Yes! There are many songs that make me feel that way! There is one in particular now that makes me want to listen to it over and over and has for awhile now! I heard on tv on some music show months ago and couldn't wait for it to come out! I got the CD as soon as it hit the stores. It is by Ne-Yo! It is called Year of the Gentleman and the song is called "Closer"! I can never get the song out of my head! I just love it! I happen to be a big Ne-Yo fan! He is cute, sexy and a great singer! Check him out! See what you think! [Opal26]
I'll check him out and let ya know, Opal. wink [makingpots]

Hi makingpots! I think both the words and the music makes me respond to it. usually what touches me are spiritual songs and the words plus the music really moves me deep within my heart. Take care and have a great day! lovelots..faith [faith210]
Hi dear friend! Yes, I do have many favorites! haha..But I really love this song of a Filipino artist named Gary Valenciano, he sang and composed this beautiful spiritual song, "Take Me Out Of The Dark" and I also love the songs of Don Moen and many more. lovelots..faith [faith210]

Did you know that you can actually wear out a CD? I did. My Buddy Holly Greatest Hits CD. I was sooooooooooooo pissed when it started missing and sounding like an old 45! LOL It took me forever to find another one, and I'm much more careful with this one. No utube link though. Sorry. [sparkofinsanity]
Thank goodness for earphones huh? ROFL [sparkofinsanity]

Hi Pots Hope u must be doing well sure its nice discussion, and i do admit that their are songs that i liked very much and want to listen again and again.happy Usually i am not much in to lyrics, but the songs i liked are based on their Lyric, their music, their composition and sure the Voice of singer and the way of singer they pronouce the words and bring emotion into it. so u can say its whole package. Coz i have heard same song in voice of other singers but trust me they are not that attractive then.wink Hope you understand, i am afraid i dont have youtube link yet, but i will find and try to share few. Take care [cupid74]

Actually, this just happened to me as I was driving to church this Sunday (it's an 80-mile drive). It's a brand new song by a band called Third Day who I don't particularly listen to. These lyrics really grabbed me though. It was probably because I seemed to be living what they were singing about. Then the chorus really gave me a few goose bumps. They were live on the late late show. I put it on our magazine blog if you're interested. http://www.thegatewebzine.org . [gtargirl]
Awww, thanks my friend. We are honored to have you visit us. [gtargirl]

Yes, many songs. One, in particular, was "To Where You Are" by Josh Groban. I fell in love with it but now I have a hard time listening to it. If you ever lost a loved one, it can be hard to hear. Here it is, if you wish to hear it, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-uIQp9Dqcrw Oh, here are the lyrics... To Where You Are - Music by Richard Marx, Lyrics by Linda Thompson Who can say for certain Maybe you're still here I feel you all around me Your memories so clear Deep in the stillness I can hear you speak Your still an inspiration Can it be That you are my Forever love And you are watching over me from up above Fly me up to where you are Beyond the distant star I wish upon tonight To see you smile If only for awhile To know you're there A breath away's not far To where you are Are you gently sleeping Here inside my dream And isn't faith believing All power can't be seen As my heart holds you Just one beat away I cherish all you gave me Everyday Cause you are my Forever love Watching me from up above And I believe That angels breathe And that love will live on and never leave Fly me up to where you are Beyond the distant star I wish upon tonight To see you smile If only for awhile To know you're there A breath away's not far To where you are I know you're there A breath away's not far To where you are [nanajanet]
We are all a part of all the people who have touched our lives. I love that. Beautiful. Hugs! to you to, my friend. I do hope we meet someday. happy [makingpots]

oh yeah, I did, when I heard Nickelback's Gotta Be Somebody for the first time, I did love it. Aside from I love Nickelback, i like the beat of Gotta Be somebody and the lyrics is nice, although I already have my man, and whenever I hear it, I just feel like I'm being in love again with my man... :) [Nhey16]
Hi, Nhey. It is nice to feel like being in love again, isn't it? I like Nickelback a lot. [makingpots]

I love the song, "Wonderful Tonight" by Rod Stewart. I've heard that million times but every time it is played it's like the first time I'm hearing it. The lyrics is quite simple but I really love it's music and its melody. [Llonorra22]
Ya, I thought it was Rod Stewart who sang it. But I really love hearing it. Happy posting... [Llonorra22]

It's not a really a song, but the piano music from Twilight...I just can't get enough. I love the sound of a piano, always have, and the soft sound of that one just grabs me and pulls me in every time. [JinxyMannequin]
I'm with you on that, JinxyMannequin, I love the sound of a piano and always have. [makingpots]

Yes, that happens to me all the time ^^ Whenever I hear a song that I really like I have to listen to it several times until I find another one :) I don't know what attracts me, I just feel it. There's something in the rhythm most of the times that attracts me. Only after I hear the lyrics. It may be the other way around only if I don't like the song... But usually the type of songs that stand out for me have great lyrics as well. After hearing it the first time, I then listen to it more carefuly and connect with the lyrics, that's the most important part. Don't you find it strange how some songs sometimes have lyrics that feel like they're describing your own life and thoughts? It's hard to find one that fits exactly, but when you do that's so astonishing o_o The latest one I've been listening to all the time is "So Contagious" by Acceptance. Here's a link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bIii_QRoPo4 Also I like to listen to movie soundtracks (anime mostly...). They mean a lot to me, and I can connect with those lyrics more than with any other songs. Here's a link to a song that describes exactly how I'm feeling all the time: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4u2zNQiM5Lc It might not mean anything to you if you don't like Naruto... But it's an ending from that show that means a lot to me. [moonlight_dream]
Hi, moonlight_dream. Thanks for a nice response. I do find it strange how some songs sometimes have lyrics that feel like they're describing your own life and thoughts? I think some songwriters just have a nack for making people relate to thier songs much as an author causes us to relate to characters. It is a talent for sure. Thanks for including the links here. I don't know anything about Naruto, myself. [makingpots]

I've experienced that many times. It's usually the beat that does it for me but at times, the lyrics would catch my attention and I would repeat it over and over again until I can almost memorize the song. I just love music. The last song that I repeated over and over again when I first heard it was the Jai Ho remix sung by Nicole Scherzinger of The Pussycat Dolls. You should try listening to that. [caitlindawn]
Hi, caitlindawn. Welcome to myLot. I will give Jai Ho remix a listen. Thanks. [makingpots]

yes it happens, most of the time, it is the chorus that I remember about the song and I sing it over and over again in the house. I don't have any music anymore, I stopped by it years ago. So all the songs are in my mind. [winterose]
It's fun to sing an enjoyable song over and over again around the house. [makingpots]

Oh yeah...been there done that. Quite often when a new song or piece of music "hits" me I listen to it ad naseum...in other words over and over again, and usually loud, so it's a wonder my neighbors don't bang on my door yelling at me "If you play that music one more time I'll call the police." LOL Right at the moment, there really isn't a song or piece of music that is affecting me in that way...will keep you posted though when something does hit me...heehee [pyewacket]
Hi, pye! Yes, I love to know the next time a song hits you in that way. I'll put it on and play it loud with you. heehee [makingpots]

Several songs have done this to me, but the first one I can think of off the top of my head is "Calculation Theme" by Metric. The first time I heard it, I got shivers down my back, and I sat very still until it was over. I heard it on the radio, and I wanted to be sure I heard the radio announcer say what the song was called and who it was by after the song was over! I was blown away by the whole thing - it is a very different song. There is not much music in it, and it is sung by the wonderful Emily Haines. It still sends a chill down my back whenever I hear it. :) [wyrdsister]
Hi, wyrdsister. I enjoyed that very much, thanks for adding the link here. Emily Haines has a beautiful voice. I love having such a reaction to a song that it sends a chill down your back. Magical. [makingpots]

It's not like you to not tell us what song you are enjoying over and over. Are you keeping a secret from me, my dear? I've been obsessing over a Dave Matthews song lately, but I'm on my slow system right now and too lazy or impatient to go search for a youtube link. I'll tell you mine if you tell me yours. Mmmmwwwaaahhhhh! :) [pajamamama]
You are right, I do share songs here if I write a discussion about them. This one is different, and special, and mine allllllll mine. Heehee Besides, I bet I know the Dave Matthews song you are hung up on. [makingpots]

For me the opening is what will make me pay attention. Then I listen to the words, and if they speak to me, I will play the song over and over and over. Like this song by Amon Amarth called Across the rainbow bridge. Its about a viking who has fought battles and lost people and is now ready to die. So when it starts, He says "My days are numbered soon I'll have to leave." Its such a beautiful and sad song. I think its a combination of both the music and lyrics that would make a song stand out for me. [Shikumaria]

Another mylot member shared a song with me some time ago and I listened to it over and over again for days! It was both the lyrics and the tune itself that captured my attention and I found it to be a very poignant song. Here's the link to it: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ARAJ7uwnhYU The video they've created is also very moving. happy [James72]
Oh, it seems they've had to remove the version as it once stood on that link I just provided you. sad Try this one instead to at least get to hear the tune and lyrics: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MHFqsKw3HAQ&feature=related [James72]
