Music From Your Teen Years

whistle Hi everyone :) Each "era" or generation seems to have it's own most popular groups, sounds, and songs. What was some of the most popular music/songs, etc. from your teenage years? Do you still enjoy listening to some of now? I was a teen in the 60s...so rock and roll was coming into its own...The Beatles, The Rolling Stones, Motown groups, Elvis, Three Dog Night, The Everly Brothers, The Beach Boys, Jimi Hendrix and Janice Joplin, Otis Redding, The Temptations....these are just a few of the groups/people that were popular when I was growing up. So share with us some of your "teen years" music. Thank you. Karen

My teen years music? Hmmm, remember the infamous Milli Vanilli? Hahahaha, blame it on the rain ! Mariah Carey released a lot of new release. Michael Jackson. Basically it's the late 80's and beginning of 90's. And that song "The Final Countdown" I forgot the name of their Band. A lot of techno disco whatever is popular too. [ibuemma]
happy Hi Emma and Realan...I had my daughters far enough apart that for a long time, there were new songs and new groups introduced into our home. Even I remember Milli Vanilli via my oldest daughter! And Michael Jackson and the Thriller album...of course we had to buy that one. And disco, uh huh! I don't remember "The Final Countdown" thoughconfused Up with music Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hello Karen, I really loved music. My teen years was about late 90's and early 20's.I can't forget how the boy bands touched our hearts with their different music.Backstreet boys,Westlifes,Nsync,A1,Boyzone are being tuned all over the place.I can also remember Britney Spears and the Spice girls rocking some music.Everytime I heard songs of this kind, how I missed those days I am at school and having precious times with my classmates and friends.happy [ybonjoc]
happy Hello Yvon. Those boy bands...so much heartfelt and romantic music and I think all the girls had a crush on them! I have to agree that school and friends and our "coming of age" years were very special. And music was such an intricate part of all of that!happy Thank you for sharing your "era"lol Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

It was ABBA and Boney M for us. The world was in transition from Gramophone to cassette tape recorders and we would 'Steal' the cassette player to our room in the night to listen to the music. Music used to go full blast when parents were not around. King and Beatles were the Golden oldies to us, people to be appreciates, like old vine. [webearn99]
happy Good afternoon to you :) Even I remember Abba. They were popular when one of my three daughters was a teen. Boney M...I have a Christmas song by her....it rocks! Yes, my music would have been oldies to you lol. There hasn't been a year in my entire life, though, that I haven't discovered more and more music that I love to add to those original oldies from my teen years. Thank you for sharing yours. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I was a teen in the 70-80's. There were rockers and then Duran Duran types. Aerosmith, Accept, Twisted Sisters, RATT, REM, Boston, Nazareth, Pink Floyd, Bon Jovi, Lover Boy, Ozzy, Def Lepard, Madonna and Micheal Jackson hit it big on Much Music. [TheGypsyDad]
happy My two oldest daughters were teens in part of the 80s, so I can very much appreciate some of the same music you enjoyed...Madonna and Jackson, in particular. I think we're each defined in part by the music we embrace in those teen years...and ever after, when we hear it, it triggers memories. Thank you for your response Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

For me it was late '80s. Big were lot of 'Hair Bands' - Poison, Skid Row, Winger, Def Leppard, Bon Jovi etc. Boy Band - New Kids on the Block. Debbie Gibson and Tiffany were still around. My friends and I listened to : U2, Depeche Mode, The Cure, New Order, Erasure, Nitzer Ebb, Front 242, Faith No more etc. Lots of New Wave, and start of Industrial and soon Grunge. [realan]
happy Hi Realan...Some of these sound very familiar to me...Bon Jovi, the boy bands, and Def Leppard, for instance. The rest, I am not so familiar with. I am old lol.lol I appreciate you sharing the music with us you grew up on. It's one of those things that stays a bit with us the rest of our lives. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

jimi hendrix, the eagles, cosby stils and nash, paul williams, george duke, eric clapton, will downing, jethro tull, peabo bryson, anita baker .. those were the groups and singers that i remember. 60's and 70's are my favorites rolleyes annhappy [tigeraunt]
happy Hello Ann. All of those names are very familiar to me, too. It amazes me how long some musicians still work or regain some sort of popularity with newer generations, too.shocked I appreciate you sharing your music memories with us. Hope you're having a very fine day. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I was highly into pop and blues. I lovedlistening to country songs and R&Bs. I have grown on Carpenters, Cliff Richards, Stevie Wonder, Lionel Ritchie, Billy Joel, John Denver.. [mimpi1911]
happy Hi Mimpi...I still very much enjoy pop and blues, both the older songs and many of the newer ones, too. It's fun to think back on how we were and what we loved as teens, and then stand it up beside who we've become. Thank you for sharing your favorites with us. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

We have many of the same faves, Karen. ELVIS was my alltime fave, loved the motown bunch, conway twitty, bobby darin, supremes, 4tops & i could go on & on. Have always loved music, still listen to the radio most every day. Keep talking about such good music may have to get up & dance a little jig, lol. [ANTIQUELADY]
Mine too, Jo. :) Probably always will be. [PeacefulWmn9]

I'm an 80's teenager, so I grew up with all the weird hair, bizarre Clothing and downright odd music styles all around me! lol But it sure was unique and I love the music from that decade! A-Ha, Wham, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Belinda Carlisle, Cyndi Lauper, INXS, Guns 'N' Roses, Poison, Icehouse, Talking Heads and many, many more..... The funniest aspect of the 80's though is definitely the fashion! It's a hoot and I can't believe how we all dressed back then, or how we chose to style our hair. [James72]
shocked Realan, what, you're not going to post them??? LOL [PeacefulWmn9]

Throughout my teens years I had the great decade of music the 80s, even now most if not all of my music I play, be it on Itunes, my Ipod or in the car is solely from the 80s. Even my cd collection is 90% from the 80s. Duran Duran was one of my favourite groups, still is, Aha, Madonna although she's been going strong throughout the decades even now! Fleetwood Mac, Abba, Eurythmics boy did they have some great profound, meaningful songs! I think the best group for me in my teens was Eurythmics, hey do you remember Bananarama and Kate Bush? They don't make em like that any more, sad to say. [wolfie34]
happy Hi Wolfie. Love Madonna here, too, and the Eurythmics! I do think whichever music defines our teen years is something we like the rest of our lives, even though we might add others from each new decade to our favorites. There is just nothing that compares to "coming of age." I don't remember Kate Bush, but bet my oldest daughter does! Happy listening.happy Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi Karen, wow this is a toughie! I generally like old music and I can remember some of the music I was listening to in my teenage years! You mentioned the Beach Boys and I absolutely loved listening to them! I forget the group name but I also loved that song 'Making your mind up'. There were four group members and I think the two chaps pulled the skirts off of the two lady singers, it was part of the act. Anyway, I loved that song. I still love listening to some of the old music now. Andrew [AndrewFreyne]
happy Hi Andrew. Oh yes, the Beach Boys were big for quite a while. I can't think of the other group you've mentioned either, but like you, while I love music from each decade, I still love a lot of what was popular during my teen years. Brings back great memories.wub That, and I just plain love music in general...adds so much of what is good to one's life! Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Will Smith is the only one I can think of and now I'm gonna have "Getting Jiggy With It" stuck in my head!!!! When I was a teen it seemed to be more rap than anything though. Oh yeah, Pearl Jam and Nirvana were popular back then too. I was a teen at the height of the grunge era but I never really got into back then. [taterkitty]
happy Hi Taterkitty. What a cool screen name! LOL, doncha just hate it when a song gets stuck in your head?? One of my daughters loveeeed Pearl Jam. I just marvel at how unique the music and look of each generation is, as though that particular group has claimed a spot in time just for themselves. Thanks for sharing this. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I was actually a teenager in the eighties. So I listened to stuff by Duran Duran and Platinum Blonde, Loverboy and Bryan Adams. Yes I still enjoy listening to them today, I also like the Beatles and the Rolling Stones. [doglady112]
happy Hi to you :) I still love Bryan Adams, and he wasn't even of my generation but of one of my daughters! And of course, I still love the Beatles and the Stones. Each generation or decade seems to produce something awesome that almost everyone can enjoy.happy Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I was a teenage in the 90s and some of the biggest music artistes of the 90s are Mariah Carey, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston, Madonna, Michael Jackson, Garth Brooks, Spice Girls, Aerosmith, Boy II Men and many more... and during the late 90s, I love some of the country cross-over to pop artistes like Shania Twain, LeAnn Rimes, Faith Hill and Martina McBride. I also love Mariah Carey's idea of mixing pop music with R&B and Hip-Hop when she released her album, 'Rainbow'. [dknkyle]
happy Hi Dk...my oldest daughters love/d though same artists...and in fact, so do I. And country cross-overs have been amazing for the past couple of decades. Mariah, now she is great! Very innovative. Thank you for sharing your likes and your teenl-year music. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi there PeacefulWmn9, I am quite younger than youhappy, so I was from the golden period of music. 70's and 80's. My favourite groups are many, but I will mention a few, BoneyM, ABBA, the Carpenters,MJ, Lionel Ritchie, Dianna Ross, and the wonderful singer, Stevie Wonder. [rameshkumaar57]
LOL, I decided years ago, Ramesh, to embrace each new age I became. It simply means one has been privileged to be alive on the face of the earth yet another year. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I am just comng out of my teen years lol. Frankly speaking i expected more from the music of my teen years than what it gave me, but to be honest there are a few bands i really enjoyed. I used to see rock songs starting to get more 'commercialized' a few years back, then alternative and punk took over. Hip hop has been on the rise since I can remember and almost everyone seems to like it here. Amidst all this, I found a few bands i really liked listening to. Portishead, Muse, Tool, A Perfect Circle, Smashing Pumpkins, Air, Coldplay, Radiohead, Depeche Mode, Metallica, Opeth, RHCP, U2 are some bands/artists i really enjoy listening to, but being frank i can honestly say music from about a decade earlier than when my teens began was somewhat better. [Xzcess]
happy Hello Xzcess. Music is like that, taking sudden turns as artists experiment or introduce brand new styles. The bands you've mentioned are familiar to me...my youngest daughter enjoyed a lot of those same ones.happy Thank you for adding your input, and have a wonderful new week coming up Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi Karen, I am going to respond with a confess that I know you must disappointed with that. Surprising in my childhood even though in that time kid just start to think that why people listen song. That time it was looked to me that what funny think he is doing (who is singing). I thought that as an another way of talking. really surprised at that time what need to add the other thing with talking. I don't dont say this as a joke but i really thought so. But later in my young day I took the trouble to hear musics. Ans day by day little interest grown to me and finally I am now little interest on some particular type of music. [slapethief]
happy Thank you for helping to make that more clear to me. [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi! During my teenage years, the songs were from boy bands like backstreet boys, the moffats, Hansons, Boyzone, A1 and all others. We also have music from Britney spears. When i was high school sophomore , I remember going gaga over the moffats, and my friends and i would scream if we hear their songs on the radio. I also love The Corrs. I love listening to their music coz it reminds me more of my high school days and it brings back all the feelings and memories which i really like. I even have mp3 of boy band songs on my phone. [sujuwonder]
happy Hi Suju. I remember my daughters liking the boy bands, and then when my youngest was a teen, Britney Spears came on the music seen and was popular. Teens are like you, gaga for the musicians they love! Teen crushes and the concerts are a really big thing at that time in life for some.wub I also love the memories of my own school years, and music was a very big part of that. Thank you for sharing your experiences with it. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Smokey Robinson and the Miracles, Marvin Gaye, Supremes, Shirrells, Stevie Wondor. [muscles4me]
happy Hello to you. Excellent artists, all. A friend and I listen to them still at times. We have sort of a music marathon night and just plain enjoy it! Thank you for sharing your preferences, and have a great night!happy Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

The most popular music/songs from my teenage years was dance music. The most popular dance song from my teenage years was Madonna's INTO THE GROOVE. I still enjoy listening to it because of its catchy beat and it makes me want to get up and dance. It's also a song that puts me in such a good mood, particularly when I'm depressed or sad. [Keola12]
happy Hi Keola. Were you a teen in the disco era? Madonna has put out some great stuff! And yes, that song is very upbeat, fun to dance to. Thank you for your response. Hope your week goes well. happy Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

i love evanescence, within temptation [evanscn07]
happy Hi Ev. I love Evanescence...especially My Immortal. I find it very powerful, very moving! Thank you for responding to the discussion, and have a great new week.happy Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Please overlook the dust and disarray.. ELVIS, BUDDY HOLLEY, THE BIG BOPPER, CHET ATKINS, JIM REEVES, ROY ORBISON, DYLAN, ARLO GUTHRIE, HENDRIX...WOODSTOCK...Lotsa folkie, rock, country, cross-overs, motown..Whew! (pant, pant, sneeze) ENJOY! [greenfeathers]
lol Okay, Green. Consider the dust and disarray completely overlooked lol. You've chosen some very big names in music! Love it love it. Now sit down and take a break lol. And thank you for your response.happy Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi Peaceful, well the one I remember most from my teen years would have to be the first record I ever bought, and I still could sing along. Frankie Valli and the four seasons with 'December 63'. Remember that one? Most of the stuff played in the discoes then was the Motown stuff even though past the era as it was good dance music, I still love to have Motown on in the car whilst driving. [thea09]
Hi Thea. I sure do remember Frankie Valli and the four seasons. And since I have lived in Michigan all my life, I am definitely partial to anything Motown. The first record I ever bought was with money I had earned baby-sitting...Baby Love, by the Supremes. Like you, I still love most things Motown. Enjoy the new week ahead!happy Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

My teen years were in the 90s so I remember a lot of Mariah Carey and Boys 2 Men. Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Cranberries, and alternative rock were big too. I remember when Lollapalooza traveled around more. [nangel78]
happy I agree. Music is very much a part of our memories! [PeacefulWmn9]

Hmm. when I was a teen, I remember Alanis Morissette was just getting some spotlight from her first album.. That was what I remember most.. cause that's when my love affair with her music started. lol Anyway, local music then was also emerging, specially the local bands.. they were really a lot of them who became popular and their songs nowadays are coined as classic filipino music... happy [Ingkingderders]
happy Hello Ingking. Yes, each country has its special artists and forms of music, while other music seems to become popular throughout the world. Whichever kind we most enjoy, definitely adds positive things to our lives. Have a beautiful evening. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I enjoy listening to some of the music I use to listen to back when I was about 15 year's old. Even now it's great to hear it. [laceycyoung]
happy Hi Lacey. I also remember that music. Lawrence Welk came on Sunday nights and my parents really enjoyed his show. Makes me think back to happy family times of when I was a child :) Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

Hi Karen, This discussion brings me back to the 80's. Topping my list are all of Madonna's and Whithney Houston's songs (whatever happened to her now, Whitney Houston, I mean?). And there's Gloria Stefan and the Miami Sound Machine (Conga, I Don't Wanna Lose You), Heart (Alone and These Dreams - I love these songs so much), Journey(my most favorite - Separate Ways and Open Arms; they're back and their vocalist this time is a Filipino), Cyndy Lauper (I just loved her "Girls Just Wanna Have Fun", "True Colors", and her participation in "We Are The World" - USA for Africa project with Michael Jackson and other popular artists back then). And of course all of Michael Jackson's songs. [doryvien]
happy You're welcome. [PeacefulWmn9]

Dear Karen, My teenage songs will be from Boney M and ABBA. I was overjoyed when the ABBA songs relive again because of the movie 'MAMA MIA' and the its musical theatre 'MAMA MIA' world wide tour. People are crazy again with ABBA songs. I can hear it on radio, night markets, CD shops, lounge, basically everywhere! It make me walk back 'Memory Lane'w00t I also listen to 'Donny & Marie', Bonnie Tyler and Michael Jackson! All the best, do you reach your minimum payout for August? [Iriene88]
happy Hi Iriene. Bomey M and Abba...wonderful music there. I also noticed the resurgence of Abba when Mama Mia came out...so many happy memories brought back. Like you, I enjoy not only music from this era, but from all the ones that have gone before it.happy Yes, I did reach payout and with much to spare! Yaaaaay!! I hope you did, too. Karen [PeacefulWmn9]

I'm pretty young still, just 21, so my teen years were just a couple years ago. But, they were the Backstreet Boys, Nsync, Britney Spears, Christina Aguilera, Spice Girls...all the pop stuff. I won't lie, I listened to all of them. However my favorite group to listen to at the time was Savage Garden. Everyone knows the songs "Truly Madly Deeply" and "I Knew I Loved You" but no one knows the group! Unfortunately, Savage Garden is no longer around but Darren Hayes went solo and I enjoy his music. Can't wait for his new CD! [HansonFan]
happy Hello HansonFan. Truly Madly Deeply is a powerful song...one of my own favorites. Music is always changing, etc., but always I love not only the music from my own teen years, but something of the new that keeps coming with each new generation. Thank you for sharing your favorites happy Karen [PeacefulWmn9]
