The importance and power of music. How important is music in your everyday life, and your past for that matter. What and who do you like, and how big is your collection.
Music is not just in my life important, I think it is one of the few things in life that can bridge almost everything. It reaches out and bridge cultures and language.
Even if you can't speak a certain language, try it in a song, you will be able to sing a song in a foreign language in no time! You get transported back in time to sad of happy times when you hear songs that had meaning to you.
I have in total 3000 Cd's
I love from Bach to the Beatles here are just a few:)))
Mozart,Chopin,Beethoven,Montovani...
Vangelis,Metalica,Santana,Fleetwood Mac,Era,Nickelback
Chris Rea,Frank Sinatra,Michael Buble,Robbie Williams
Barbra Streisand,Celine Dion,Katie Melua,Shania Twain
and the golden oldies of the 60's
Now your turn, and don't just give me 3, not fair!

Why don't you share your love for music and tell us what kind of music do you like, or better seeing that you are a musician yourself, tell us what you do [Anniedup]
Awesome Post!! I find that in my life music is huge. I pretty much feel I have a soundtrack to my life in that any song I hear I tend to relate to in some way, shape or form. And can apply to it to life in general. And it is my tool to the past. I can be transformed right back to any given moment in time instantly by the right song, good or bad memories. I have about 6000 songs in my collection and about 1000 music videos because love to watch them and relate as well. Kind of see what the artist might have envisioned for the song. I love the Beatles, Lennon, Boston, Sinatra, Guns N Roses, My Chemical Romance, Jewel, Taking Back Sunday, Disturbed, AFI, Fallout Boy, All American Rejects, Pink Floyd, Plain White T's, Dokken, Luthor Vandross, T.I., Akon, Ciara, Missy Elliot, well, I could go on forever. [andreaskye]
I can see you are just like me, I can't live without my music, and I feel so passionate about it I can get carried away quite easily. I see you've got a huge collection. On your list I share quite a few. Thank you for such a detailed post. [Anniedup]
I love music, too! Some of my favorites are Cheb Mami, Cheb Khaled, Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Andy Williams, Perry Como, Doris Day, 60's and 70's music, environmental sounds, Chicago, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Lionel Richie, Barry White, Johnny Mathis, The Grass Roots, and Right Said Fred. How is that? [Yestheypayme2dothis]
Oh I share quite a few with you, Doris Day, now there is a blast from the past! I like Diana Ross, Johnny Mathis, Lionel Richie, and the wonderful rich voice of Mr.Barry White. Perry Como will always remind me of the theme song "Born Free" it's one of my daughters favorite. I am not familiar with Cheb Mami, and Cheb Khaled, is that more to your husband's music? [Anniedup]
3000 CDs????????????????????????? [Yestheypayme2dothis]
I lost a few in a housebreaking a few years ago, I have replaced some of them but the others were quite rare. But then you must know I am collecting since I was 12 and considering my age:) then it is not really that many. Three years ago my brother, the IT buff took all my vinyl records and put it on Cd's I even had two of those 78 speed records remember them? It sounds a bit crackling but that's ok. These days there are very few and far between that is really my taste. [Anniedup]
Music has saved my life during some of the darker times and gives me pleasure in the better times. I can't imagine a world without music it would be a very different place. I have thousands of songs on my computer and quite a few CDs though I've stopped buying them that often now I have a computer. I like rock and folk music mainly some of my favourite artists and bands are Sandy Denny, Jethro Tull, Led Zeppelin, Frank Zappa, Kate Bush, King Crimson, Pink Floyd, and Queen. [nancyrowina]
Ah what can I add, with music people don't really have to talk hey. I share with you Led Zeppelin- Stairway to Heaven is one of my favorites! Kate Bush- Babooshka and definitely Pink Floyd- ha ha everything as well as Queen. Thanks for your time nancyrowina. xx [Anniedup]
Music is my life and always has been. To try to list all my likes would be mountainous. I like/love almost all types of music from authentic hillbilly (as opposed to country and western) to grand Opera. My favorites are from the period 1940 to mid 1960. As for contemporary music I do like soft rock but metalic is not for me in any way, shape or form.....to me it is just loud noise with lyrics that make little sense if any at all. Some of my female popular singers are Jane Froman, Kate Smith, Linda Rondstadt, Cher, Vera Lynn, Edith Piaf, Annie Lennox, Bette Midler, etc. Some of my male popular singers are Tony Martin, Dennis Morgan, Frankie Laine, Vaughan Monroe, Eddie Fisher, Pat Boone, Englebert Humperdinck, Tom Jones, Sinatra and Bing, Nat "King" Cole and Al Martino. Hillybilly favorites: Hank Williams, Hank Snow, Hank Thompson, Merle Haggard, Randy Travis, Slim Whitman, Loretta Lynn, Cousin Minnie Pearl, Patsy Cline, Tammy Wynette, Bobby Bare, Buck Owens, Tex Ritter, etc. Groups include El Divo, Bread, America, Mamas and Papas, Queen (the softer ones of course), Creedence Clearwater Revival, the Bellemy Brothers, the Beatles, the Judds, Gary Lewis and the Playboys, Herman's Hermits, etc. Operatic singers include Luciano Pavaroti, Placido Domingo, Renata Tebaldi, Beverly Sills, Joan Sutherland, etc. I guess that list should give you an idea of my likes and dislikes in music. Music, together with sports, is absolutely essential to my life....without it Life is drab and without emotions. [gifana]
Ok I'm back. All of your female artist I absolutely share with you, Linda Ronstadt-Winter Light and Hummin' to Myself, are my fav. Cher - If I Could Turn Back Time, and the classic - The Swoop Swoop Song, Vera Lynn - Rose Garden, Edith Piaf - Carmen's story, Annie Lennox, Bette Midler, I can go on and on... Pat Boone - Love Letters, Englebert Humperdinck, Tom Jones - Delilah, Sinatra I can go on and on and on..Nat King Cole my ultimate fav. Smile...oh so beautiful! Patsy Cline and the forever classic, Crazy! And Slim Whitman, now there is a blast from the past, my Mom use to sing alot of his songs around the house, I think she had all his records, at that stage 78's Your list just speaks to me, El Divo,Creedence Clearwater,Luciano Pavarotti, The Bellamy Brothers.. and the rest. gifana thank you so very much this brought so many memories back and that is what music do, it Crosses the divide between everything thank you once again I truly enjoyed your response [Anniedup]
Most of my cd s are spiritual in nature. Actually, I have cds designed for choir rehearsals. I have lots of church related music, and children's music. I have a really cute cd I bought after going to a presentation at the public library. It was written by a guy who got his masters in Math Education, then went to work travelling around performing for children's programs with original music, that is educational. I like disco, country, Barry Manilow, Neil Diamond,Alabam, and lots of older music, and Christian music. [GardenGerty]
I am a devoted fan of Neil Diamond and Barry Manilow, but I am disappointed that you didn't list some of you Christian artist's or songs. If you should come back to this post please list some of them. Thx for your time, I know you've got a huge friends list to go through and I always appreciate it when I see you have responded to my discussion. xx [Anniedup]
Music has been more important than I've realised. It was always around growing up. I used to sing allot myself and only restarted doing that in the last couple of years. You just enticed me to have a look at my current music on my computer. I have a diverse range. I am listening to Storms in Africa (Enya), with headphones you can hear all the intricate orchestral sections. I like the sound track from Alexandria, my favorite being The Drums of Gaugamela - it gets into your belly! Vangelis' Reprise is beautiful. And here's something you haven't heard, tell me what you think. I love the space it has. (Free download btw) It makes you want to move your butt if you feel a little lazy! http://www.clairvision.org/ckb/ckbe/ckbc/fol_0000_0001/cat_0000_0090/qid_1999_0000_0616.html tell me what you think. The most powerful music is that which can move my soul. [Tetchie]

Music is important to me because it makes me feel comfortable where ever I go, whatever I do and whatever I think... Music makes me feel relaxed, especially listening to Chinese Music (CPOP)...Even though I couldn't understand a single word... [country_gurl]
That is exactly what I mean as well, even if we don't know or understand the words, it bridges everything, that is why it is such a powerful medium. thx for sharing your view! xx [Anniedup]

Music is wonderful therapy for the soul, and I think it will always be a huge part of our life's. Thank you for sharing your view with me. xx [Anniedup]
I think miusic is one of the most important things what all humans have. music makes you feel just good. if you are together with people, no matter if you sing, listen to music or play in a band its just fine. there will be no fighting. music can help ytou in every situation. if you are very down a love song, a sad song can make you feel that somebody else also knows about your feeling, and if you are very happy, a happy song makes you just more happy. my husband loves more the older bands, led zeppelin, stones, beatles, jackson browne, james taylor, and alternative r.e.m, pearl jam, soundgarden etc. me like rap and the new stuff more, alisha keys, 50cent... [rubiana6]
I love the Beatles, James Taylor, R.E.M.(especialy "Hang On") Alicia Keys, has got such a warm, and strong voice and to top it all she is so beautiful. Thank you for sharing with us rubiana6 and rap your heart out my girl, if it makes you happy then music once again reached it's goal [Anniedup]
Music is almost the most important thing in my life. It not only makes you break the frontiers of cultures or languages, it also helps you to feel or transmit a feeling with no words, that's what i like best from it, the fact that you can reaches alot fof feelings withno words. Im a musican, I play classical guitar and violin. Also I stusied somecomposition and now im making music for short film projects for friends that are in the movie production scene here in my country, its not big deal but it helps me to express myself and someday something bigger will come. Best Regards. [shkauclkl2]
I have always felt that music can overcome many diversities, and once again it proves itself on this post. But please share with us your favorite composer, artist, or song, best of all why not tell me more about your classical guitar and violin, and what do you like to play? When I come back to this post there better be something:) [Anniedup]
Hi Anniedup, sorry it has taken me so long to respond to this particular discussion. I love music, find it a great mood enhancer. My absolute favourite has to be Freddie Mercury & Queen. The words to his songs have such meaning. I love 'Heaven for Everyone', and often sing it at home and in the car. The only song I don't care for is 'Another one bites the dust'. It came out either at the end of 1980 or the begining of 1981 and my younger brother had just passed away in July 1980. It used to make me so angry. Anyway on a happier note, I adore Paul McCartney's Ebony and Ivory, John Lennons 'Imagine'. Robbie Williams is a great entertainer and I like a lot of his music (although I don't care for him as a person). It is difficult to choose which is my favourite CD but I think I will go with 'City of Angels'. I loved the movie and the music is brilliant. We were fortunate enough to go to the 46664 concert in George a couple of years ago. It was great! Katie Melua is a big favourite of mine and she sang with Queen. Annie Lennox gave a lecture of note on women and child abuse and made us all feel chagrined. (even though not guilty). Johnny Clegg performed and was brilliant. I think he got the crowd going more than the others. I have always maintained there is no 'racism' in the entertainment world and I fully agree with you, music does bridge gaps. [Kylalynn]
Oh John Lennon's "Imagine" is a fantastic song, and it is "that type" of song that only now get's a real meaning in the times we are living in. The movie 'City of Angels' is such a tear jerker, Annie Lennox's song "I saved the world today" And our own "White Zulu" Johnny Clegg Thx for a nice selection and beautiful memories! [Anniedup]
not that important its just soothing and i like to listen a play a bit.you on the other hand seem as crazy bout music like i'm about movies like you have thousands of cd's.i've loads of vcd's,dvd's,even on my old hard drives i figured its a better way of storing so many,i don't have to bother with disks that way just plug in the hard drive and watch [karan21188]
great i never thought you'd like eminem, nearly all my male friends njoy pussycat dolls videos :) one discussion on movies comin up... kiddin will take some time to think of a good one wil have one soon i promise ya [karan21188]

Wow! what a wonderful collection! and very diversified I share with you: AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Deep Purple,The doors, and also my favorite Metallica. I'm surprised not to see Led Zepplin. Elvis Presley, Tom Jones, Rod Stewart, I'm not surprised to see you like Bob Dylan. Elton John, Sting, Santana, fantastic, he keeps reinventing himself, what an artist! Madonna, is one of my favorites and Cristina, not so much Anastasia, she looks better than she sings in my opinion. Bee Gees, ABBA, Boney M, The Village People now this is a few classics's that will never die or go out of fashion! I'm glad to see some classic music as well, you sound balanced and grounded, just like me when it comes to music. I just love Mozart, he was a genius and refreshingly eccentric! I see you like Beethoven's 9th symphony, a very popular classic, that bridged the divide between non classical music lovers. I like his "Für Elise" as well, sooo beautiful. Well thank you very much my friend, this is a very nice topic, one of my passions, and it was lovely to have shared it with you, and thank you, I had a nice time going through yours! [Anniedup]
In our house we love almost all music. Our cds include classical to rap. Santana,Neil Diamond,T-Bone,60's oldies, Motown among my favorites. Nickelback,Willie Nelson,Mozart ,Conway Twitty,Hank WIlliams,Johnny Cash to name a few. I agree with you music bridges cultures and languages. In personal life it helps in the bad times and celebrates the good times [suscan]
Oh I love Santana and the man knows exactly how to reinvent himself! Conway Twitty! that's a blast from the past! Hank Williams is the closest you'll get my to country, his got such a rich voice, like Nat King Cole and Jim Reeves. Thank you for your selection, everyone of these post's are almost the same and YET SOO different! Love it, love it, I hope this discussion holds on forever!! [Anniedup]
It may sound funny Annie. I love music, but I can't remember the proper title of the song, album and sometimes artist. So if we are going to play "name that tune" I can sing it, but to name it, nah, I can't . Maybe with one word or a clue. But I don't think I would get it in whole (^^,LOL) But I love music and it is really a powerful media. And it appeals to everyone. I just hope I can be good with titles and singers. To avoid embarassment sometimes. (^^,) [Aphroditei_5279]
Sweetheart, you sound like my husband, he is also bad with remembering song titles and artists, and sometimes he sounds silly as well, because he wants to sing along and then, it is just mumbling, because he can't remember the lyrics! ha ha! But just like you music is part of his life! Thank you for being so honest, as long as it is part of your life, that is the most important thing. Have a nice sing a long day:))) [Anniedup]
Hello Anniedup. I'm so sorry it took me so long to get to this particular post. It's a shame on my name not to have replied to this ;) I'm having technical problems and so many discussions on my friends' list to get through. Whew! Well I never thought I'd be so caught up in a traffic jam of discussions. It's never-ending! And the computer just shuts down when I start responding to discussions so I end up responding to only a few. Let me post this first before "it" hears me and shuts down AGAIN...hehehe [sick4muzick]
No problem Anniedup. I also usually take twice as long to go back and forth..:) My head is spinning all the time when I come into myLot. Good exercise for the brain! Thanks, you too, very good music taste. Happy posting! [sick4muzick]
look Annie music is part of my life, but not my life as long as it is in the background it is fine. Half the time I don't know the songs or the artist. but dead silence is not for me, but it should not break my concentration. This hip hop nonsense is for sure not for me. sorry cant' give you endless lists of song:B [Syekselensie]
You are forgiven my friend, as long as you promise me you will keep the radio on, thanks for your time dear sir. xx [Anniedup]
wow... music is my life. i love listening to music while I'm doing something. my day is not complete without listening to a single track. a life without music is boring. [queenie_sum]
Life would be indeed a very dull and boring place, but you didn't share your type of music, please share even if it is only one song:) I am not thanking you at this stage because I want to see you back here! lol [Anniedup]
Absolutely the power of music is important to me. I would not be able to live without it. I so much agree that music can bridge cultures. It is a univeral language. You can get the feel for a song without even knowing the words. I like to listen to Mozart, Vivaldi, Beethoven, Frank Sinatra, Robbie Williams, Pink Floyd, Queen, The Arctic Monkeys, Coldplay, The Fratelis, Alanis Morissette, Tori Amos, Nerina Pallot, The Beatles to name but a few. I hope that has been some help to you. I also like to play music but I am not great. I have friends who are very good at playing music though! Hopefully one day I can be. :) thanks for a great discussion. [feliniti]
Whoopi! You are the second friend of mine that likes the classics! You will not believe me when I say I share every single one with you except The Fratelis, I have never heard of them. If you should come back tell me about them. xx [Anniedup]
