Now I like music as much as the next person, don't get me wrong. When I was a teen I had a record and cassett collection that was almost 1,000 records. I loved the Beatles, The Stones ect. I even have a taste for so of the music of todays artists. And some Rap. lol Anyway, but my son(34) will sit in thew living room and not do anything but sit and listen to music. I can see listening and doing a puzzel or something. But he just sits! It makes me nuts. I am bed ridden for the most part. I watch TV, work on the computer. But at any one time I have 5 or 6 other things going on at the same time. Like I make custom Tee Shirts I design with jewels for people and jewerly I make. Neclaces and bracellets. I also do cross stick and knitting and a loom. I make hats and scarves for the homeless for winter. So how can he just sit and do nothing. What do you do when you listen to music or watch TV?

When I watch TV most of the time I am attentive to what I am watching, due to the fact I rarely watch television. When a commerical comes on I will go fix me something quick to eat or drink. I might do my homework or surf the internet. On the other hand, when I listen to music I mulit-task a whole lot. Music is soothing to me. It just motivates me to get the job done. I will clean, cook, do homework, talk on the phone, text, read, and etc. I really enjoy listening to music because I like to sing. [ShelleyLynn26]
i always have a million things going on around me, too, as a matter of fact! I'm almost ALWAYS doing homework, studying, going on the computer, responding to discussions, cleaning, doing laundry - etc - while watching TV or listening to music. I don't know what it is, but to me, I ALWAYS have to be doing SOMETHING whenever I listen to music or watch TV - those aren't interesting enough activities in themselves, so I have to multi-task. Not to mention that, but I'm usually running a pretty busy schedule and don't have time NOT to multi-task! [maezee]

I love music and can listen to it all day. Usually I am working on the computer or doing a puzzle while I listen to music. It depends what I am watching on TV, either or not I multitask. Frequently, I do this. Unless I'm dictating, there's no way I can write in silence at all. This is because I grew up in a house which always had people every minute. Also, I perfected my writing craft (to the degree that it is perfected) in a loud, noisy dormitory. Now, if I'm typing on my own, there is no sound because I live alone with a cat. I've tried to write in silence because both Shakespeare and Leslea Newman say you should. However, it just doesn't work for me. Waking up at 7:30am and writing, as some people recommend, doesn't get my juices flowing either. At 7:30am in the morning, unless I'm doing activism, I'm in the bed. There are exceptions to this of course. For example, the three day novel contest. But, mostly, it's true. As no people live in my house but me, I must play the T.V. just so my muse will activate. I think she's a shy creature and doesn't want to come and announce herself to a room full of silence. [cripfemme]
When listening t io music we usually set and talk or get up and dance mostly I love to dance with all kinds of music when on the puter I haev a tv in here to watch while I m on puter. After that I go read in my bedroom or if its nice outside I go outside to read [Lakota12]

I totally multitask as I am watching tv or listening to music. Being a single parent leaves little time for other things so I try to cram as much possible into the time that I have. For instance. as the TV is on, I have the stereo turned on with the volume low and the computer turned on as well checking and responding to Emails. Sometimes I'm also on my cell while all three things are going occurring. In the meantime, I am cleaning bathrooms, vacuuming and mopping floors, washing dishes and trying to prepare a home cooked meal for my son. After cooking, I clean dishes and wash, dry, and fold up clothes while running back and forth trying to keep up with what is playing on the tv or stereo or checking to see if I have any additional Emails. But my most favorite thing to do while watching TV is finally when I have that long awaited second or two before it's time to go get my son from school, is to have a nice tall glass of chilled tea and lemonade mixed together. The usual lunch time for me and my family is with tv. I mean, we watch our favorite noon-time show while having our lunch. In the afternoon and until early midnight, tv is usually turned on. So we have our dinner and after dinner, everyone have our own way of doing our somethings, still in front or away from the tv. I have my mobile phone, doing my usual online business, mylot of course. well,this is a good question,i 'm always wondering that why my husband usually did nothing when he was watching tv.He likes to watch tv very much and can,t fall to sleep if the tv is not on.and he could just keep lying on the bed or siting on the chair quietly for several hours while watching the tv shows or news,until he was tired.He just never did some housework such as sweeping the floor or changing into sleep clothes.it just absorb all his time when watching tv. but for me,if the program is extremely attactive ,i will focus myself to it .Most of the time,i could do several things while watching tv.sometimes ,i do housewokr while watching tv shows.it makes the housework not as boring as just did it only.While ,listening to the music is the same.and i will never fall to sleep when the tv show is on,or a moive in on. so human is such strange creature,different people get differet life custom. now ,as living with me for several years ,the custom that my hushand have to watching tv while sleeping was changed,i asked him to get rid of bad sleeping habit. I have music or the television going all the time and for the most part it is just a background to what I am doing. I'm on the computer, doing housework or sewing and crafting. When there is a program that I really like (crime shows), I will give it my undivided attention because I try to solve the crime right along with the detectives. When I have music playing, I like to dance along to some of my favorite songs and sing if I'm alone in the house since I know I don't have the best voice. As far as your son sitting and just listening to music, I do understand and have done this myself on occasion. It is a good time to get lost in the music for relaxation or I use it as a time to think and plan. If I'm tired in the evening, I will organize all my tomorrow chores in my mind or plan for an activity or future vacation. In our busy world, many people don't take any time at all to just think, dream or plan. Music really enriches my life no matter what else I'm doing at the time. [surfette]
Well, when i was in school, i used to complete my homeworks while watching TV.it could be slow, but effective , as you get both the things completed in time.Well, when i started to college and then to job, well i do my aerobic exercises while listening to music or watching TV.Sometimes, i perform better with the music on.Needless to say , checking the internet and things in front of TV and while listening to songs.I believe in mutlitasking and saving time as possible. Well if I'm watching a movie on DVD, then I'm not doing anything else... unless that movie is really boring I will probably do something else while the movie is on.. Hello cookiecrmbles this is checkmail and often do various activities while watching Tv and listening to music.Earlier use to study while watching Tv and listening to music, just writting work(A/C,Maths).Now am doing any thing while performing such an activity.Even eat at the same time.So basically we can manage all our works while watching Tv or listening to music. Well, I have to admit when I watch a tv program that I like I will sit and watch and not do anything else. That way I keep up with the scenes, facial expressions and dialog. But frequently when I am on the computer I listen to music. But I have to be careful cause some of the music I like makes me want to dance or sing along. I have been caught doing so. Sometimes I have music on when I read. But I remember when I was a teen I could not listen to music while studying cause the music was too distracting for me. Usually when I am listening to music I am doing stuff on the computer..last my and my little 8 year old sister listened to Miley Cyrus while playing the board game Clue. But for the most part I am cleaning while listening to music. Now television is different. I don't get to watch television alot so I mostly sit and watch the television, unless I am cooking and I am hoping back and forth between the two. It really depends on what I am listening to at the time. I can't listen to some of my favorite rappers and try to read a book. I can do that with ambient music though. I like to draw and CG while listening to relaxing music. It helps me concentrate on the details. While watching television, I usually just sit down with my notebook open. I use whatever is on to help me generate article ideas. I think I 'm watching too many sporting events lately. I've got a ton of articles planed that explain why MLB's season is stupidly long and should be shortened, why the Lakers won't repeat, Why Tim Tebow can't walk on water, etc. [cbjones]

When I have a long day of school, chores or have nothing to do then I would sit down, relax, and begin watching television while I do my homework or begin cleaning the house. Watching television does relax me and full keep me awake. watching television decrease the stress I been facing and sink out the sounds of loud screaming outside. Oh man my neighbors are so loud. I have kept the habit until I'm fully awake and prepare to go outside and have some fun, since that is one way that complete the silence sounds inside as well as outside. While I'm cleaning my place then I would turn the television to relax me until I'm fully finish and the house is clean. Bad news is when cleaning the while watching TV is that it slows me down. With music, more often than not there's a drink or two before the mood settles and the type of music decided..then I usually just drift with the music until the imagination latches onto something concrete to do like painting or writing or futzing with the computer or just do nothing and enjoy the aimless drift.. With tv it depends. If the show is boring the mind already has a headstart to dreamland and eventually the tube gets turned off.
