What Era Do You Think Is The Greatest Era Of All For Music

Well firstly I must ask if you think that such an ear exists and if so which era would you say it is? Some think it is the sixties and seventies because music was made with less instruments and music then had a social conscience. Some feel it was the eighties because the greatest star ever Michael Jackson really came into hi own. There are others who came on the scene at this point but I don't remember any lol. The nineties was a time when many great bands came on the scene but then the music became more technology and less instruments so many think the music lost its soul "so to speak. Then came the 21 st century when the music is almost only made on computers instead of with bands and instruments .Yet this is an interesting period because now you don't have to be able to sing to make music as you have auto tune and the vocoder ---consequently artists like Tpain can sell millions without being able to sing.

I personally can't say. I know what I like, and I tend to be picky that way. I liked the 70-80's rock because you could understand the words. I loathe "music" where they scream at the top of their lungs, or play the music so loud it felt like a hangover afterwards. (Not a pleasant feeling!) I like songs that have words, and feelings, and meaning. Yeah, I know country is all about "somebody done somebody wrong, so let's go drinking", but I like it too. Not the whiny ones, but George Strait, Garth Brooks, the smooth voices that have happy songs too. I like things that make me feel good. Isn't that the point of music? To hear something, and feel your spirit soar? To feel better after hearing the song than before? [snowcat46]
A nice era for music and like you I hate music in which people scream too.Like you i too like to hear the words of a song and I dig country too. Thank you for responding [ronnyb]

come on ronnyb, it was the 50's & 60's. that was the very best!! [ANTIQUELADY]
now u are talking. thanks for the response.happy new year! [ANTIQUELADY]

I personally prefer modern music such as hip-hop and drum'n'bass but I think the fifties were the best. My opinion is pretty much based on the infomercial I saw the other day about Oldies but Goodies collection. Can't say I was really watching it,I was minding my business with the TV on but half an hour of same information being beat into my brain did it's dirty jobhappy 40 minutes later I was almost dancing around to Ray and The Pretenders lol I also like Elvis and I think he was on of the greatest music figures despite his numerous shortcomings and drug addiction. Nowadays anybody can be famous after a minute of fame on TV and your real voice doesn't really matter. I don't think you care about hip-hop but remember all the rage about Kanye not being able to sing? I'm not a big fan of his but I felt like saying "Hey,T-Pain does it all the time and he's on the roll!"lol Heck, maybe I could start my own music career, don't think I would be any worse than that, especially with the auto-tune! California, here I come! [AnakSuNamun]
True...sad But no worries,my friend,I've thought about that already and my first step would be to splurge on a voice changer at Toys R Us. Not the best way to spend 10 bucks but a very cheap and effective way to jumpstart my career! [AnakSuNamun]

I don't think that there is such a thing as a greatest era! Good music is good music and the best of the time is what becomes the classics of tomorrow. I think when it comes to popular music whatever is around when you are a teenager will always seem to be the greatest! That's the age when you spend a great deal of time listening to and buying music! [Annmac]

I think the favorite era for music is the time you grew up in.It was the 70's for me glam rock, reggaie,AbbaA,heavy rock .there were so many different types of music to choose from folk was also very popular. We also had David Cassidy from America and all those easy listnening ,and of course the Beatles were still around just. But they were splitting up and doing their own thing,Sandy shaw,LuLu my mum used to love Jim Reeves a country and western singer,so we had so many different influnces on us music wise I think that is why I have everything in my music collection from Marc Bolan ,to Robbie willams ,Take that,Cliff Richards, My husband used to be a DJ and played lots of pubs and clubs in the south east and he has a massive collection of records so although we don't get much chance to play them we do enjoy our music. [suzzy3]
You may be right on that point since I feel the nineties is the best period of music but that is when I really started to show an interest in music.Maybe if I had grown up in the seventies I would have though the same since I like some folk tunes today especially those by Bob Dylan and I also like Abba.Yeah an I am a fan of take that and Robbie Williams to so I guess there is beauty in all forms of music [ronnyb]

I will have the 90's, those was the days that music actually made since to me. This is just my opinion. [MizzLadyB08]
The nineties was my era too but then I may be biased. In the nineties I really started to listen to music and found that I loved alternative which remains today my favorite genre.Notwithstanding that fact,I am able to appreciate music from other era as well. [ronnyb]

I also agree with you. For me greatest era of music lies between 1960 to 1980. In enlish its michael as you said, As an Indian for me It is the Golden time of Great Play Back Singers like Mohammed Rafi, Kishore Kumar, Lata Mangeshkar etc. whem they are at their peek, the bollywood music was at its peek as well. [shahanas]

Definitely the 80's-I actually wanted to watch the Grammys because there was people like Annie Lennox and Boy George and Michael Jackson. Music with an attitude, lol. Not to mention George Michael, and I think Elton John's music was popular then, too. Great stuff, I still like to listen to it. [Fortunata]

For me the greatest era was the 1970s. That era had made some musical songs and we always like to listen to them when in stress. Those songs are so sweet to hear that we forget our stress. There were some musially sound songs, some of them I learn by hear and still remember the words. [sanuanu]

I have to say the 40'and 50's for me,there are some songs from most era's that are nice to listen to,but there was and is a whole lot of just noise. I enjoy the slow songs that you dance to holding and knowing who your partner is. [mac1946]

I would definitely have to say the 90's is the decade with the best music hands down. I LOVE 90's music. Such Great bands came about around this time and still go on to make millions today. The 90's has so many great rock songs and most all 90's songs are catchy and everybody enjoys them. I don't know of one person who doesn't like 90's music. [quidproquo]

Well My I like the late 80's early 90's and some of the 70's. The 80's rocked because you had bands like Quite Riot. The 90's Rocked because Of my favorites, The Breeders, and British Band Zombina and the Skeletones. I can't really chose an era , I have at lest 2 favorite bands from each one. [vampgal]

I think the 50's were the best. It was the start of rock and roll. One could argue that the blues of the 20's, or the swing of the 30's. Or even the country of the late 40's, early 50's were the best. But with rock and roll, it was a mixture of all of those. It took everything that people liked and rolled it into one giant force in music. It was the talent that was the one biggest thing that made a band famous. That can't be said for the other generation following. The 60's were bands just trying to get high and try to make a statement. It was a decade of mediocre bands taking themselves too seriously. The 70's were dominated by disco. And we all know how artificial disco is. The 80's were bands just trying to use the synthosizor(sp.) as much as they can. The 90's, grunge, BORING! And 2000's, lets face it, its just whether or not you are eye candy. And its going to be like that for the rest of time. Music is a multi billion dollar business and it will stay that way forever. Nowadays, the money makes the music, not the other way around. [ahefty]

This is gonna be a short answer.....(sorry) but... The 80's! [Little_Stormy]

The late 60s and early 70's had awesome music that just doesn't die out. I love music and do like much of the newer stuff as well but most of the newer groups do not seem to have the staying power as those classics. Even the young kids will listen often to some of that older stuff. There have been some that have cropped up since that are great and you just know they'll be around for a while but certainly not as many. [sid556]

I'll have to go with the 60's and 70's. The lyrics of that era's music bore a social message that spoke mainly of love and togetherness. Both were eras of peace and anti-war protests. Their music made you cry, made you want to do something for your fellow man, encouraged you to demand respect, to stand up for your rights. And by the mid 70's, made you want to BOOGIE WOOGIE! 75% of the music I play music is from those eras. Classical music is nice, too if you're patient... [penny78]

Oh!It always feel good to hear music on 80's....classic on particular, not because I found love then lol,(i was just 10 years old then) but reminiscing the past on my childhood made me smile... [amazingheart]

I personally think its the 70's.. It's the best rock era of music and the love songs are great as well.. The sound and rhythm were just fine and the lyrics of each music were amazing.. The whole page is not enough to name all the great artist of the 70's era.. [paoxav]

This is the era of good music. This is also the era of really bad music too. I'm a heavy metal guy, and after people get past the surface of pop culture's music and engage more interesting bands music can be very rewarding. Check out the band Equillibrium for example. They are an amazing blend of black metal, folk metal, regular folk music, and many different instruments and tempo changes. Its fairly awsome, and nothing that could have been produced prior to this era. [ulalume]

I think that the most recent generations have pumped out some music that blow all other music away. I think that the technicality that goes into music in this day and age is unreal compared to like classic rock and that crappy hair metal crap. The Dillinger Escape Plan, The Mars Volta, The Deftones, Tool, Nine Inch Nails, and much more have all been revolutionary bands for me. I really like that music is also combining analog with digital and I really like the final product that the two create. [jambi462]

Well I was born in 80s, so I don't really get to hear a lot of 80s music. But during my Elementary days, I love the music. Who would ever a person wouldn't know the song "Macarena"?! That's like the hit music of all time, you can hear it like all over the world. But I have heard the 50s and like 60s and 70s music, they're cool too. To be honest, I like the old time songs, talking about the Beatles, they're totally the legend. Who in the world wouldn't love Beatles! I dig them! I must say that nothing beats the old time music because for me, it all started with them, and all with good music, though this time, music are getting more futuristic and with the help of technology, the not so talented singer can already sing. Even I like the 60s music, I'd still stick with what's the music right now. We live in the moment. =) [smooch091784]

I think the 1920's is the greatest era of all for music, in that those were the golden years, especially for jazz music. [Keola12]

I think the best era for music was the 80's and early 90's for music. But I guess it only depends in what era you were born in. [Crysi23]

I don't think there's a "greatest era" I think each era has something different to bring to music lovers, personally I like the sixties, seventies, a little nineties, and some 21st century but the more music I'm exposed to the more I like each era in a different way. [ronnilynn]

As the saying goes old is gold I like 60's songs. [eshwarik]

I don't know what era this is but I prefer the older country music. The songs that were done when the grand ole oprey was in the Ryman auditorium. [savak03]

The answer for me would be the 80s. I absolutely love the music from those years. I was born in the early 80s and have always loved that music. [cortney09]

I love the sixties & seventys era music. My favorites are things link Jimmi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, I also like classic southern rock Allman bros. Molly Hatchett,Blackfoot. [Monki883]

I think that the 60's was the greatest era for music. Elvis, the Beatles and all the 60's singers and bands changed music with Rock 'n Roll. I love Rock 'n Roll. I always listen to the Oldies on the radio. I am also a big fan of Henry Mancini and I like classical music and Marches too. I also like folk music. [netmom27]

I think I truly enjoyed the music of the 80s more than I do the music of today. But of course that could be because I was younger and a little more open minded and free. I had no other worries in those years and had plenty of time to do nothing but enjoy the music. :) [tammytwo]
