Why Do Drivers Insist On Blasing Such Loud Music

I can't take it anymore!! When I'm sitting at the outdoor tables at Second Cup, cars go whizzing by, and they are blasting loud, and sometimes very obscene music. Don't these people realize they're creating noise polution, and making the world a more unpleasant place for everyone else? Why must they be so selfish? What's the appeal of music at literally eardrum-splitting levels? And where can I get a sound-ray or something to aim at their cars to silence them, as they pass by me? LOL

Music sounds better when it's turned up loud!! Unfortunately some people's taste of music is poor. Blame obscene music on the Government for allowing it!! When dance music was popular in the 90s the media said people that listened to that music did drugs.... When most of the music does not even mention drugs, yet rappers can rap about smacking their hoes around and bustin' a cap in a dude's A$$. [Hippie_Ashley]
I dislike that type of music completly. I hear that stupid music playing all of the time when car's go by here, wouldn't you think some people would think about the children in the neighborhood's. Some people do not want 5 year old's hearing such word's. [laceycyoung]

I have a fantasy of buying a pair of speakers for my next car and have them installed on the OUTSIDE, probably under the hood with the engine in front and under the trunk in back. Then when some loud cretin comes next to me, I flip the switch with Tchaikovsky's 1812 overture and stay as close to them as I discretely can. When that's over I'll switch to Mussorgsky's "Night on Bald Mountain." Wagner did a good piece, too, that's nice and loud. Something about a ring, I think. That's the kind of music to play loud. But not really when you are driving. People have run into emergency vehicles when they were playing their entertainment loud and the emergency vehicles had their sirens going. It is really a safety issue. How about motorcycles with obviously ineffective mufflers? Do you have that in Canada as well? [Qaeyious]
w00tThat's hystercal! That definitely would shock some of the crazy drivers around here! I have to try that next time! [realan]

I'm sorry but I think they really don't care if they are bothering others unfortunately. I'm not sure what the appeal of having it so loud that it vibrates the ground and windows everywhere you drive passed. And they are making themselves deaf in the process, something they may not notice until later in life but still, you'd think they'd at least think now and again! [horsesrule]

We often say," If I was listening to music like that, I wouldn't want people to know!!" Maybe we should have noise sensors similar to speed cameras. You know, the ones that flash up to tell you your speed as you approach. I suspect some people dont realise how loud it sounds to others. I do sometimes 'test' how loud my music sounds outside the car by leaving it turned on when I get out at home. I can easily hold a conversation with my neighbours whilst its playing and they have never mentioned any problem with the noise as I drive in and, trust me, I know from experience that if there was a problem - with anything, one of them would certainly have told me by now! [Wizzywig]

There's only one reason they're doing that. They're deaf! And they think that the road is their own. They must never been in your position. [Mirsya]

Today with human rights and civil rights movements, the people are actually spiraling down into anarchy. The law is more liberal as many things are no longer criminalized. If you do not like what another citizen is doing, you would have to bring a civil suit against him for disturbing your peace or causing him mental and emotional anguish.Sometimes, it is best not to go to such places if you do not want to be bombarded nby such uncultured citizens. They are out for fun and they do not need your blessings! [jonjee0203]
I must say, what a frank answer. Getting involve with such serious comment. Although you make a very good point, It is a free country after all and nobody needs anyone to tell them what to do. [bloggspot]

What an interesting view my friend. Well, what i can say is that these "LOUD MUSIC BLASTING DRIVERS" are just trying to attract people as they drive by to show off their car, possibly attracting those chicks or they just like pissing everyone off with their sound system. Alot of reasons, well i for one do it so yeah hehehe. try sometimes its fun. [bloggspot]
Yes, usually the cars blasting the music are sporty and the guys driving them want attention.wink I really don't have a problem with it. The only problem I have is when they are blasting down my street at 1am! angry [realan]

lol, that does get very annoying. i have my music loud-ish at home, but i don't understand how people do it when they're driving, surely it just puts them off? alot of the ones i see/hear are really beaty music, like it makes the floor vibrate lol. it's pointless really. not really sure you can buy anything to stop it though! [xsammiex]

Personally I think that they are morons who do it just to annoy everyone else. Either that or they just don't care. I remember once I pulled up alongside one of these morons at a stoplight. I was on my bike, so I was getting the full bast of the racket (I'll not call it music) I leaned over and said to the driver "Do you actually like that racket?" The noise was so much that he could not hear what I was saying, so he turned it off. I promptly said "Do you actually like that racket? Because I can tell you, no-one else does!" Then the lights changed and I pulled away leaving them standing there at the light! lol Actually, I was not as polite as that, but MyLot won't allow me to put what I actually did say! [jwfarrimond]

It's a real problem the world over. We were on holiday in Malta, strolling and enjoying the scenery when our eardrums were assaulted by dreadful music as a car with two young lads in passed us. 5 minutes later, we saw the same car pulled over by the police. Mercifully, the music was turned off, and the driver had an on the spot fine, as the policeman said he was driving without due care and attention. Perhaps we should all move to Malta, if we can't get hold of a silencing ray? [Sandra1952]
well, there's young people for you. i personally(being 18, I'm YOUNG) i hate blasting the music really. no one really needs to listen to the music you listen to anyway, right? i like some volume to music but not to the point that it will kill your ears over. [bigkevk3v]

I am one of those teen drivers who always blasts music while driving...I don't know why we do it, but I guess it makes us more confident? I do realize how it can be annoying at times. [levyx22]

I know exactly what you mean that really irrates me to no end. I was so mad and I went off and had every reason to we had just gotten our baby from the hospital she had to stay in the hospital for 10 days and we were taking her home and so we had to stop at the store to get her some formula I stayed in the car with her while my husband went in and while we was parked I was holding her cause it was time for her to eat and this car pulls up right beside blasting that ungodly noise well when they got out of the I said excuse I said can you see I have a tiny baby here I said do you think next time you can show a little respect for other people I said that would be nice I said other people may not want to hear that noise and they just looked at me I know it probably didnt do any good but I just had to get it out and say something to them cause it really made me mad especailly with having my little one I was really ferious [christylynn]

Not sure about the sound-ray but I think an Uzi would work. I think it is time that towns and cities start putting in a noise ordinance to prevent people from blasting their music. It would keep the noise pollution down and raise revenue. I agree on to loud when my van vibrates due to their bass boost it is just way too much. I think they are looking for attention. [Debs_place]

I do agree that music sounds better louder (sometimes. depends on the music of course. lol.) I tend to turn up songs that I like and make me wanna dance and sing along. A lot of the time I turn it up so loud so I can sing loud and no one will hear me. Hahahaha. But I only do that on the highways. But I agree that cars these days are too loud. My house is right by a busy street and it's just ridiculous that some people drive by with their music that loud or the cars that just sound like they want to be racecars or something. I don't understand it, and it's rude. It interrupts my sleep, or sometimes I can't hear the TV. It's been bothering me a lot lately, and if I hadn't seen a discussion about it, I probably would have started one eventually. Haha. [kaykaygee]

Drivers insist on blaring music because of several reasons. One reason would be they really don't care. Second reason they could have a hearing problem like me and need the music louder to hear it. Another could be they have a loud vehicle and they have no AC so they have to have their windows down and the music up to hear it. Just like me. However I also only listen to the public radio. So no obscene music comes from me. Possibly religious sermon could be heard. But not obscene. [rusty2rusty]

Some people like the attention and have to have their music up. I think some want to drown everything out around them. Others like to show off. Some are overcompensating. [nangel78]

To show off how cool their over priced stereo is. I remember this one guy used to blast his crappy music, AC/DC, all the time, then one day it was quiet and I asked him how come. He said that somebody busted in his car windows and stole his $3,000 dollar stereo system. Don't ever advertise what you have because somebody will want it more than you do. [gitfiddleplayer]
Maybe they took it just to shut him up! lol Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?" [Maggiepie]

Hi danishcanadian, luckily we don't get much of that around here but if we do it's invariably some young man showing off his fast car. We were having coffee in town the other day by the seafront and the traffic there was pretty busy as it's August but there had to be just one who roared along in his black car, windows down and music blasting loud enough to think another earthquake tremor was about to knock the table over. And the obscene thing about that was it was siesta hour too. [thea09]

We get a lot of that around here. It doesn't bother me to much if I'm driving by them or am at a light, since I will pull away from them, or roll up the window. Crazy how you can feel the vibration. I have turned up my 'cooler' music, so to tune out their horrible one, just temporarily until I'm away. rasp. What really bothers me is there are some of these drivers, speeding down my nice residential street, blasting their music after midnight! angry 1am, 2am, ridiculous! Definitely need one of those sound-ray things at that time! [realan]

That's the million dollar question. I don't get it either. I have taken my favorite songs and turned them up full blast.. just to see what it was all about. It was HORRIBLE!! I hardly could understand the words, it was pounding and blasting and just ridiculous and so not enjoyable! I hate it when they drive up beside me and even with all windows closed, I can plainly hear the blarring of their trashy crummy songs and of course they always turn up the bss so their car almost rocks with the beat. I can't believe anyone really likes or enjoys it like that, so it has to be just to draw attention to themselves to get people to think they are great and wonderful and oh, so cool!!! [coffeebreak]
Yeah, it's to get attention. They get it all right; people assume they're insecure & trying to "prove their manhood" (I have yet to see a woman driving like that) which, deep down, they're afraid they really don't have. And they're right. wink And don't say "almost rocks" their car; I've heard "rolling thunder" (that's what some call them) cars that not only shook their car's chassis, but my house windows & walls, too! Ruuuude! angry Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?" [Maggiepie]

I guess they never give a damn on other people. They would just be thinking of themselves alone. They don't care about other people's interests and privacy... [mobhomeir]

Hi there!!! Those drivers does that cuz they think that it is fashionable to play loud music in their so-called cool car. Much more, many of them thinks that it is a cool way to attract girls by doing so. But in the end it turns into a bad habit that one can stop doing it despite being insulted at times by those passing by.# Cheers!!! [babymimi05]

I used to like to listen to musci when it was played loud when I was younger but not anymore. I never blasted it around other people who did not want to hear it though. I think alot of people like to display their loud stereo systems mainly and show them off instead of actually listening to their loud music being played. I hate loud music now too though. [stephcjh]

hmmm...before i used to love loud music. me and my friends strolling around with big speakers on the back seats. maybe we think it was cool and wants others attention.lolLook what happened to me now? I don't know if this is due to medications or the headset that I'm wearing everytime i transcribe files? hm?(indian accents is so hard to transcribe so i have to put it on a high volume)surrender Now, i'm no longer using my headset or any gudget with headsets. [simonelee]

I have noticed this too. I like loud music in my car from time to time, but not loud enough that people can hear it outside the car! The sort of loud music I hear from cars now, can even often penetrate through my car when I am stopped at traffic signals! I often wonder how much damage they are doing to the ears! lol - Derek We've all been young and each generation has they way of rebelling against society's values - that's how we as human beings evolve and change. It seems that each and every generation criticized the younger generation and what they do. Even some of the younger generation themselves, criticize the loudness of music and craziness of the trends! I guess that's what makes us human! happy- Derek [derek_a]

Why? Because a lot of boorish sods were raised to be selfish, because the world revolves around them doncha know. Or, maybe they're actually very generous, but just have bad taste & assume everyone will find their trash as wonderful as they think it is. Either way, get their license number, & report them for disturbing the peace. Most cities these days have an ordinance which makes it illegal to broadcast music or speech over a certain amount of decibels, as it's capable of literally deafening people. Look into it. Have fun making the clods turn it down! Maggiepie "WHERE'S THE BIRTH CERTIFICATE?" [Maggiepie]

Well first of all I have been a teenager once too. I love to play rock and heavy metal real loud. I guess during that stage in my life as being really young and restless it was some form of release for all the pint up energies and emotions going within me. Secondly, some music is much more appreciated really loud. You can't play rock music at a level 1 volume, it's better off turned off. Rock, Heavy Metal, Hip Hop and other very expressive music are best appreciated being loud. It's sort of a way of expression. I'm not saying that this can be appreciated by everyone. If you ask me I'll play loud music at home. I may not play it loud while mobile since I may offend some people and I don't wanna look like someone who wants to get some attention. I'd rather play it loud on stage while I'm performing the music itself, like in a concert where it is best suited to be. I am also a musician. I play the rhythm guitars and drums as a past time and hobby. I think that all loud music should have its place. There is always a time and place for everything. [wolveren]

I have to admit that I listen to my music full blast when I drive. There is just something about driving and music that go along great. I don't listen to any rap or obscene stuff, mostly classic rock and I seem to get a lot of approving head nods and waves from older people. (I'm 22 so my choice in music probably surprises them) [ladyhope]

I listen to music loudly. I love music. It is a great thing to help to relieve stress and help me to stay calm when I drive. Sorry that it is noise pollution to you. But just think...they are just driving past. They aren't your neighbors blasting it really loud. :) [nrn2003]

A ray gun?..And violate their 'snivel' rights?! Go right ahead and enjoy the experience! Unfortunately folks have lost sight of the fact that the rights of any individual are only as strong as the rights of all individuals. I'd say that's why they call it equality..because it involves all of us. But despite how much they call for it, too many folks don't want equality. They want privilege..Now, they don't want to be subject to privilege. THAT would be totally unfair and an obvious violation of their civil rights. However, to subject someone else to their privilege..That's fair..And when one calls them to order for the practice of their privilege then one violates their uncivil (snivel) rights..And seeing how it works, more folks want snivel rights of their own and, eventually, chaos is the only rule. I suppose that when we reach that point (at least I hope) that Fella that folks don't want to believe in will wipe the slate clean and try a new approach.. ENJOY! [greenfeathers]

I hear that every once in awhile when someone drives down my street. There is really no explanation for it. In fact, in some places it is illegal. Just another distraction to cause accidents [geminikid]

I don't know for some reason these people just want everyone to know what they're listening to or they are just trying to show off to somebody. The thing is though the people that blare their music are usually listening to pretty bad rap music or something like that. It seems like the people playing music really loudly are never playing anything that you like. It doesn't make much sense to me either. [jambi462]

I hate it too. Once we were driving at about 45 mph and there was a car driving about 5000 feet in front of us. Our windows were closes and we could still hear the music!!!!!!!thumbdownthumbdownthumbdown [K46620]
shockedWoops, BIG mistake, 500 feet, not 5000! [K46620]

Hi danishcanadianhappy I'm afraid nothing you can do, except find a better indoor place, not at outdoor tables. That's the consequence of sitting outdoor I guess,hehe.. Well, as the previous responses said, maybe it just his/her hobbies to hear music loudly and they think it's their right because its their own car. Some rock-lover love heavy loud music. I personally prefer slow and classic music. There's other possibility, maybe he/she feel stress in life,,hahalol So he try to wipe it away by filling his brain with that loud music. Another reason, they think they look cool if they pass by in a car with loud music turning on. Personally, I don't think they look cool with that way.. [ChrysanTflower]

I know what you mean the music vibrates everything around it. I have heard that they people think the music sounds better when it is loud. I do not think it is good for yours eardrums and I wonder if these people can hear after they have been in their car listening to the loud music. [happy6162]

LOL some thing that is music for one might be noise for another person, i have seen cars and other vehicles that had a horn which they used to call air horn, it was a sort of siren with high pitch sound, that appers to enter in to my ears and destroying the ear drum, it is banned now in my city thanks for this post, keep sharing, cheers Arun [arun2009]

I hate drivers who really have a blasting music in their cars and jeepneys. It is really annoying and defeaning. Well, young drivers who are passionate towards music are the only one making this kind of bad practice and it is really frustrating if I rode a PUJ with this kind of music. [jlamela]

I must say, that i do agree with you. And, if you find out where to get those things, be sure to let me know too. [ShirleyBillingsley]

hi danishcanadian!^^ there's a lot of drivers like that here too! they'd pump up the volume of their car stereo and let the world know what kind of songs they are listening to. most i've heard are songs that hurt my ears. ^^;; sometimes i hear songs that i like too and i would sometimes sing with it. but it's different when you're riding the car with the pumped up stereo volume. no matter how nice the song is, you would feel annoyed because it's too close to you. >.< [secretbear]

I could care less if its "obscene" or not, its just the rattling and vibrating of the house and windows. This is especially a problem when they go cruisin by late at night when I'm trying to sleep. One time somebody had it up so loud I could feel the vibration on my chest when they drove by and I was in my front lawn, so I can't even imagine what it was like in the car. Back to the obscene part, I usually can't ever even hear any lyrics at all. Basically its so loud all I hear is the thumping bass and thats it. I would think it would also be a safety issue because its distracting to the driver and also they might not be able to hear things that would prevent an accident. I don't know about a sound ray but yeah it sucks and somebody should do something about it. [MarkieSparks7]

This is such a problem, especially in my neighborhood. All I normally do is just pray that all of the violator's car windows break. I would so laugh if I actually saw that happen...having to spend a few hundred bucks might make said violator think twice or more before turning the volume up. [coolcoder]
Oops. I should have said "having to spend a few hundred bucks to get his/her windows replaced might make said violator think twice or more before turning the volume up again." [coolcoder]

May be the poor souls are trying to drown themselves sorrows in the loud music or the drivers find the obnoxious level of music better than what the passengers yapping inside.lol PS: I hate loud musicangry [balasri]
