My hair is rat brown and I`m thinking on dying it light auburn I`m nervous about it though, would you dye yours???

Don't be nervous. I dye my hair all the time. Its a great way to express yourself. I have dyed my hair red, purple, brown, and highlights. It drives my husband crazy but he loves it once i am done... [prettypixie]

I am way overdue for another colour. I tend to try to have mine coloured my natural colour, and have foils put in the front for highlights. When some people veer away from their natural colour it never has the desired effect. I would have it coloured as close to your natural colour as possible with some highlights put through it. Try it and if you don't like it the way back isnt very long. I don't find dying hair is the same kinda step as taking a tatoo or a piercing so... just go for it :D [maabyy]
Rat brown? That's a pretty color! Is it just not shiny? Try Pantene shampoo followed by Pantene conditioner--not the one bottle with both! Makes your hair shiny and bouncy and the color will be lovely. If you really want a different color, try a rinse that lasts through 8-12 shampoos. That way, if you don't like it it'll go away soon. Or look up henna, that's a natural treatment (they used it in ancient Egypt!) that will give you the look you want. If you like it, get a permanent dye. Good luck! [dragon54u]
Of course I would. My mohawk has been a variety of colors over the past three years. There has been: red, blue, purple, orange, teal, silver, white, black, and Bleach blond. Really, dying is not that bad if you avoid a pre-dye bleaching and maintain your hair properly with plenty of conditioners and other hair products. I'm a guy that constanly bombards my hair with spray, gels, cements and even glue and gellatin at times. Trust me, one dye job won't hurt you. You do need to be aware that your desired hair color may not be possible without bleaching first. But I would suggest not bleaching if possible. [MrMalice]

My hair is black. I have gotten a couple of gray hairs here recently though that I plucked out LOL. I have thought about what I will do as more gray hairs start to come in. I think I would dye my hair to rid of the grays. I would probably try something lighter in color with some highlights. I have never dyed or done anything like that before with my hair though. i do it all the time, since i dye mine red (i mean really red) then i have to do it once a month or so to keep the color, if i do it once in 2-3 months i end up orange :D [nosferatu07]
yesterday i dyed my hair...i am a redhead but i put a subtle brown colour over it and it looks great....i can still see my red hair but the brown mellows it out a bit...plus it covers my grey...lol.. [tattylashes]
When I was young my hair was a pretty blond color then as I got older it turned a "dishwater" so I over the years dyed it platinum blond or dark auburn. Now it has become a pretty silver color (no yellow) which I am accused of tinting! LOL [whiteheather39]

I used to dye my hair all the time but haven't in 6 years now. I think that sometimes when people dye their hair it looks nice, like when it is just some highlights but more often than not people look fake. If you have a hair stylist like the famous do then it usually looks great (but not always!) but otherwise my personal opinion is that people look right with their natural hair color. The color you were given is the one that looks the best with your skin color, your face and all of your features. After realizing that I decided that I will probably never dye my hair anymore. I may consider doing some highlights or lowlights at some point but right now I am happy just the way it is! I think that if you want to dye your hair that you should start with something that hardly changes it at all and slowly go lighter. I wouldn't do anything drastic because you might regret it! Though you can always have it stripped. That is the other reason I don't dye my hair- I don't like to do a whole lot of bad stuff to my hair. [AxranraRose82]
Oh do it do it!!! Don't go drastic the first time or go darker. Go a little lighter with a little red in the color and see if you like it. The next time you can tweak it a little until you get what you want. The hair colors have guides on them now telling you what colors are warm and which are cool. You probably know what colors look good on you so can pick a warm or cool hair color. Remember, you'll have those nasty roots showing up so the more you change the color, the more the roots show. Highlighting with reds or blonds would give you a really nice look too. Again, there are tons of hair coloring products out there now for this too.. Good luck..whit [whittby]

The first time I colored my hair was about ten years ago and I was just bored. I used to laugh at the models on TV because they talked about covering grey and I was much older than they are at the time...and I was just dying it for something to do. Now at 48 I am starting to see a lot of stray white strands, which show up a lot in my dark brown. I color my hair pretty regularly. I usually use a color a bit lighter than my own, just for hilights. Presently I color my hair myself most of the time. If you're scared or nervous, have it done a few times at a salon, before you try it on your own. Usually the dye is a little higher in quality. Don't forget you can always redo it in a few weeks. I rarely dye my hair (I did once back in my college but not since). I don't know what you consider "rat brown" but I have dark brown hair, and I love the color. I've considered adding highlights, maybe red highlights, but nothing drastic. If you go to the salon, they can take care of that for you if you're comfortable doing it yourself at home. Yes, I would do it keeper. Colour adds a nice bit of fun to your hair and auburn is a very nice shade. I have coloured my hair for years and have not regretted it, although I have let it grow out a bit recently. If you want to try it as a temporary thing, just get temporary colour and there is less commitment that way. Unless you have gray hair that is stubborn then there is no need to use a strong permanent colour. Also you may want to just hilite it instead of using an all over colour. Nice lights for the hair. One of the funnest parts of life is recreating yourself and coloring your hair can be so fun I change colors ever couple of years usually going from blonde to blackberry red. Every time is an adventure but one must do some studying to make sure to use the kind that will work right for you. I used to dye my hair a different colour either every week, or every few weeks lol. sometimes every month.. depending on the mood i was in. It really doesnt do your hair much justice! But it was fun when i was a teenager ;) I would dye my own again if i had any desire to have it dyed, i've let it grow out all natural now, and it has been for a few years.. Once you start to dye it just remember that you will have roots so you will have to either do the upkeep to keep them hidden, or you will have those roots till it grows out ! Your hair is rat brown. And you want to dye them. I could not understand that why are you nervous in this respect. It is your right to beautify your hair as you need and as you wish. Rat brown color is not bad. This is natural color of your hair; you got it by your birth. All of us are wearing masks on their faces. Masks are artificial. If purpose is to beautify our self, then it is not bad. I have no hair and no worry of dying my hair. Ha. [sheenshaukat]
my hair is black and i keep it that way. i never tried to put a dye on it in whatever color or brand because i am afraid that my hair would be damaged. i know that when too much treatment gets in our hair, it becomes brittle and weak in the long run. my hair is straigth and black so i dont think i need to dye it to look better. Yes, i like to dye my hair. But since my campus not allowed to dye hair with only color black, i dyed it black shiny. Its look nice than my previous hair color.
