Well, I take that back...I guess you could...because I'm being paid $50 to go to one tomorrow... seriously.w00t
I am NOT a big fan of country...I am a die-hard rocker, to be precise...but my boss wants to go see Tracy Lawrence at a bar about 160 miles from here...and he wants to get D-R-U-N-K...so, he is buying me a ticket and paying me $50 to be his designated driver tomorrow night.
I can deal with a little country for that.lol
It's a good deal all around...I'm not much of a drinker anymore, and while I am not a big fan of country, I am a music lover, so I can listen to it without suffering too many bad side effects...rolleyes
It gets me out of town for a bit, and gives the boss a chance to tie one on without having to worry about a DUI...or worse, having an accident and possibly killing someone.
Have you ever been a designated driver?

I'm almost ALWAYS the designated driver...go figure...huh? Have fun, yeehaw baby! [Irishfrndly65]
See if this works: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SaHxV4u3g1Q&NR=1&feature=fvwp [Irishfrndly65]
Have a good time! And keep your back to the wall! [cobrateacher]
I'm pretty much the same way and I would accept fifty dollars to go to a concert too. I guess if I went a country concert I would just get really drunk so that way my senses will be dulled and the music wont be so bad anymore. [jambi462]
Yeah...but I'm being paid NOT to get drunk so I can drive the 160 miles home. [The_Lamb_Lies_Down]
What a good employee you are Mike, now he'll want to use you as a car service for all sorts of things. I've never been the DD, don't want to be responsible for cleaning up puke and listening to a bunch of guys who couldn't get lucky so they got drunk instead. You're a true hero. [gitfiddleplayer]
$50 for doing very little is a good deal! [poingly]
There was the time I went to my sister-in-law's bachelorette party at one of those funny dancing places for women, in which I wore the dress with the zipper down the front and one of the nasty guys attempted to go for it. I wasn't drinking, so it was nowhere near as much fun as it could have been. :-) [dawnald]
Where's Tracy playing at? Wish I had known this last week or I woulda made plans. :-( I was a designated driver once long long time ago back when I wasn't legal yet to drink. My bro wanted to hit a party but knew he couldn't stay overnight so asked me if I would pick him up at a certain time. I made a cool $100 just for driving 5 miles down the road and back home. Have fun, Michael! Country isn't that bad! rasp [blackbriar]
Yes I have been the designated driver on several occassions. I will probably end up being one this New Years too. I haven;t got any plans yet but Im sure that someone will call and ask me to. Hey Lamb after you see Mr. Tracy you just might come to like him more than you think. In my eyes he is adorable and yeah he can sing too..LOL Keep smiling and have fun. [rosepedal64]
omg. I wouldn't pass up that oppourtunity either, lol. I am really Not a country fan. At all. But I do like going to concerts; I like the feeling, the vibrations of loud music and being amoung a bunch of people. [olisaur]
No I have never been a Designated Driver, but I am hoping you go and have much more fun than you are anticipating. I am a fan the way you are, just a music lover who listens to a different genre now and again. [GardenGerty]
Aww I feel bad for you! I think I would have to be paid 4 digits to go to a country concert. I can barely stand listening to a single song of country on the radio, let alone 2 hours of live country. Boy after going to a country concert I think I would purposely get into a car crash lol. Cheers! [speedlover1994]
Oooo, i wanna go to! Please, please, puhleeeeaassssse take me. lol [skyhss]
There is a group of us that go out once in awhile. I like to be the DD cause I get my coffee or soda free. The DD gets to watch everyone get drunk and stupid. It can be quite entertaining. I hope you travel safely and have fun. Stay safe my friend. [royal52gens]
U're very loyal to ur boss. He will give u a big point of annual increasing ur salary next year. [justszack]
All the time....I'm not a drinker anymore....so my hubby; who's a commercial truck driver gets a DD in his wife each time he wants to party. I don't mind really. I feel it's a great way to have some fun and be helpful too...and it is a good way to make sure my husband stays safe. [hornswaggled]
My parents and grandparents were country music people exclusively. And that created problems for me. When I was younger, I had a problem with car sickness, and we regularly took long trips, especially camping. They would always have country music on the radio, and I would most of the time get sick. I got older, and the problem went away. Almost. I was OK as long as they kept that blasted radio off. So for a time, you can say that I was allergic to country music. Now that was in the old days. The stuff they are playing now isn't the old time country music, like Roy Acuff or Hank Williams Sr. George Jones - I like the music now, but no one composes or plays music like that anymore. I may still go to get the pay, but I'll stay in the car and sleep. [Qaeyious]
I've never been a designated driver, because at the age of 37, I do not, nor have I ever, had a driver's license. I know! Crazy, eh? blink As for the county music... you might be surprised at how you'll like it. I've become a convert to much of it. I still can NOT stand the "twangy" stuff... it makes me want to hurl. [CanadaGal]
Tracy Lawrence is one of my fav's. I seen him at the Alaska State Fair and he rocked the house. A few sappy tunes of course but I think you'll have a blast. Plus you have an extra 50 spot to throw a few back. [dingding227]
Oh man i'm sorry. I didn't see the DD thing. My apologies. So a few extra bucks for Christmas then i guess:). Plus being a DD is an awesome gesture. [dingding227]
The_Lamb_Lies_Down, Get out of here! You got the tickets to Tracy Lawrence and $50 to be DD!! You got to be kidding! But, hey, I suppose it justifies since you've been such a SWELL! I like Tracy Lawrence and have his albums. His "Find Out Who Your Friends Are" is one of my favorite. Well, what can I say except have a ball of a time and enjoy yourself. Keep to N.A. since you are driving - be safe and make sure you know the way back here!!! P.S. Don't forget to bring lots of paper towels, a face mask and disposable raincoat. Believe me, it will come handy, if you know what I mean!rasp [skysuccess]
Lamb, There you go again...kind words and a heart of gold, here. Well, he may be a swell boss but he's got a Nobel here, in case you've forgotten that! (I see nominations, already!) Anyway, you deserve this treat, so let no one tells you otherwise. Cheers and compliments of the season! [skysuccess]
Haha I'm sorry but I can't feel sorry for you, because I love country music. Plus you get to see a free concert, which is awesome. If you were being paid to go see Hannah Montana, that would be a completely different story, and I'd probably feel sympathetic for you. I have never been a Designated Driver, but I have had many designated drivers, and half the time the DD ends up getting drunker then the people their supposed to be escorting safely home. Some designated drivers they are. [snafushe]
Hey Lamby! I think that is a great way to make a fast $50 bucks! And you just never know, you might possibly enjoy the music maybe just a little bit! Like you said, it gets you out of town, gives you something to do, lets you have a few beers and doesn't cost you a dime! I think that is a pretty damn good deal! And you like your bosses company so it sounds like a win win situation! Hope you have a good time! Let us know how the concert was! Drive safely now! [Opal26]
Back when my kids were young...I was everyone's designated driver. There were times that I thought I'd have a few and I had a designated driver and babysitter...the hubs and then he'd start drinking and so much for that. I've never heard of Tracy Lawrence. I'm not a country fan either but like you...I just love music. I prefer rock but my boss has our music at the store set on country and I can tolerate it. There was a time when country music was like scraping fingernails on the chalk board to my ears. Ya...you could pay me to do it. It is my music of choice but it's tolerable. I listen to and love some stuff that most people ...even you ...would probably find intolerable. happy [sid556]
LOL That sounds like fun. I am not the biggest country fan in the world, but if I could drive, and my boss asked me to do that, I would. However, if he asked me to go to a rock concert I'd have to decline, since my reason for hating rock goes beyond personal. I have really sensitive hearing, and if it hurts my head, then I'm not interested in going. [danishcanadian]
That is very nice that you are doing this for your boss. I bet though you will walk away liking Country Music more then you thought. Let us know how it all turns out and if you ended up liking it even a little bit. Enjoy! [lelin1123]
Hello, Lamb, that's a nice little Christmas bonus - even for a Grinch! I love country music, although I find some of the sad ones laughable. A particular one is Dolly Parton's 'Little Blossom,' where the kid's mother gets drowned in the river, and Blossom's dad accidently kills her in a drunken rage. It just wasn't her day, was it? On the designated driver bit, well, I'm nearly always the designated driver, but unfortunately I don't get paid for it. My husband is 75, and he has glaucoma, so he's been advised not to drive. In addition, he doesn't feel his reactions are what they should be, so I'll be doing the 500 mile run back to Spain solo. We often go out as a group with friends in Spain and, as our camper will seat 8 comfortably, I'm usually the designated driver then as well. I don't mind, because although I enjoy a drink, I don't mind watching others making fools of themselves, and I can always have one when I get back. Recently, a Mormon friend who is teetotal and also a good driver came to stay for 10 days. It was great, because she's one of the few people I'd trust to drive the camper, so I got hammered a couple of times and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'd never drink and drive, and I have no time for others who do. In the hands of a drunk, a car is a lethal weapon. [Sandra1952]
i have heArd something called as blind date, that sure is fun(thats what i have seen in movies),this sounds something similar to that!!enjoy!! [riyasam]
i have heArd something called as blind date, that sure is fun(thats what i have seen in movies),this sounds something similar to that!!enjoy!! [riyasam]
never, I won't go to just see the concert it would be good used for buying a food. This is not my hobby, I like music and want to see it on the TV. [May2k8]
Just dropping in to say Hi. I'm WAY behind on my friends posts. Sorry for the generic comment. Have fun and be safe. [camomom]
I am a country music lover so I definitely would go to the concert and enjoy listening to the music. I do not drink anymore so I would be a good designated driver and would take the $50 and maybe buy some ssouvenirs at the concert. Have a great time. [happy6162]
Oh how jealous I am of your good fortune. I love country and would have the time of my life. I am not much of a drinker any more either. I had gastric bypass and I can't even tolerate a drink. I do hope you enjoy your night out. the money is a great bonus. [SharonJohnson]
Most usually I'm the designated driver, I feel better that way knowing that everyone with me will most likely make it home safe. There are times, on occasion where I get ready to go out and let everyone know that it's someone else's turn to be the designated driver cause I'm going to get drunk. I can't afford a DUI and I don't know a lot of people that can, either. I seen Tracy Lawrence a year or so ago and didn't think he was all that impressive (not a big fan of country music, either) but I have heard a few country music groups/singers that were really good. If there comes a time when you can't do the driving for your boss, I'll do it!!lol Just lemme know! Who knows, you might end up liking Tracy more than you thought you would! In any case, have fun!! [mzz663]
I feel for ya, I'm not a country music fan at all either. I live in Nashville too, go figure lol. But, I'd tough it out too for 50. bucks, easy money, you get a night out to have fun, or try to anyway. I've never been a designated driver, I'm always the drunk getting chauffered home :) [Signal20]
I have been a designated driver on numerous occasions - but a different sort of designated driver. We have a number of visitors and so does my sister. Our biggest tourist attractions (Australia Zoo and lots of others) are a four hour drive away. Whenever a trip is necessary, I do all the driving, leaving here around 5.00am and returning around midnight. I love driving. Regarding the usual use of designated driver - no, I have never been one. Since I haven't touched alcohol for over 50 years and none of my friends drink, it has never been required. Enjoy the trip and the entertainment - and the bonus. [cloudwatcher]
Yep I would do it! I was the DD all the time when I was younger, probably starting around the time I drove regularly. I was almost 20 and I was the only one out of the group of us who always had a running car and always had gas - and I was also the ONLY one who didn't intend to go out and get totally thrashed-drunk. Often, the DD can get free soda too, which I used to my advantage. I'd have one drink or maybe two, and then switch to diet coke and drink diet coke the rest of the night while my friends got smashed. Then I'd take them home.... I'd love to see Tracy Lawrence lol. Enjoy! [mommyboo]
I've never been designated driver, but I'd do it, especially since you're getting paid. Normally, I'd have to be really drunk (like almost unconscious) to listen to country, as I too am a die-hard rocker, but it's worth $50. You never know, you might enjoy it. A lot of country these days is copying rock. They have to cause they've run out of ideas. LOL I'm being a bit too hard on country. I too am a music fan and there's got to be some good in it. Have fun, set yourself apart from the crowd and rock out to it! [jessica67]
In the past I have always been the drunk and I have had my wife as the designated driver! lol These days I am like you, not a big drinker so I would be up for doing that job, it should still be a good night. I am also like you in that I do not like country music really, but I can tolerate it. I do love music in general so if it is a rockier type of country, I could handle it quite well I think. Have fun! happy [RawBill1]
Oh ,Lamb have fun with this. I myself don't like country music I am a rocker all the way. classic and metal are my all time favorites. This I would even do. Be the designated driver for the boss. Make sure you take a camera is all Im gonna say what you do with the pictures is totally up to you LOL.. Anyways enjoy and have fun watching everyone get drunk and act like fools. It can be quite entertaining. [FRANCISCOANDLEE]
Sounds liked a decent proposal! Fifty bucks for a night out...Not bad...I am almost always the designated driver because I don't drink much anymore; it does get annoying that everyone will just presume that it will be me that will do the driving whether I like it or not! It's good to see that your boss is doing the sensible thing and planning ahead because when he is drunk he more than likely won't care! [paula27661]
Going to a country music concert.....(50.00).......(plus the ticket)......Watching your boss make a fool of his drunk self (1,000.00)........getting brownie points and pictures? (PRICELESS!!!) [ladygator]
Yes, I've been a designated driver and it's no fun Even if it pays great you end up with stupid drunks who try to talk you into going places and doing things that shouldn't be done. Make rules first hand , when to go , where to go, who goes wiht whom, etc. [quita88]
nope.i don't drive.. i'm not a big fan of country either, though i can stand some of the older country. my dad was a fan and he used to watch the country music cable station and complain about anything outside of "hee haw".lol "new country" he said.well, that was closer to a hiss.blink [scarlet_woman]
I dont like country music at all. It is so annoying. You would have to pay me a lot to get me to go to a concert so I know just how you are feeling. Thats awesome that your boss is actually paying you to go. I have never been a designated driver. I really dont go out much being a stay at home mom. I've only been to a bar once and I'm 26. We used to party when we were younger but we all just drank and drove which I'm not proud to admit but its the truth. Actually I take it back now that I think about it more, when we go to family get togethers my husbands family drinks alot so there is always beer and my husband drinks and then since we have the kids with us I make sure that I dont drive if my husband does drink so that way I can drive home and not my husband who has been drinking. [shaggin]
hi lamb nope I have never been a designated driver or any other kind to tell the truth. I am one of the rare breed who does' not have a car and does not know how to drive. use the bus system and my best friend Nelda who likes to take me around to the places where I need to go. have a nice eve lol lambie and enjoy the county music I lost my girl, oh woe is me, he he. Happy New Year and hugs take the loss of your mom one day at a time, of course you already know that. My son just left me from visiting me so am really happy,he has to be in where he is staying by ten. I am not going to be up at midnight so the old year will have to crawl away with me. My son and I used to always stay up til midnight to watch the Di9c9k clark show and watch the ball drop at midnight. take care Lamb. good night now.lol [Hatley]
Oh you can pay me anytime to go see any country musician! I don't drink and neither does my husband. We love country music. On the other hand, when my sister asked me to go see, I think Whitesnake, I wasn't a fan and hated every minute of it. She had a friend drive us and he decided to drink. What a nightmare!! Never again. I should have drove us!! [marysia66]
I like country music, so I wouldn't have a problem going to a country music concert. I have been a designated driver. It's a very selfless and responsible thing to do. It's great that you are doing something so responsible. [Picquarian]
I agree with The title - I would say the same thing.. However, after reading your circumstances and conditions I may have taken that money as well (I may have required more than $50 though. :-) ) I am ALWAYS the designated driver as I don't drink.. so I may have had to drag someone else along with me to keep me company while the other Country lovers were drinking it up. Someone I could talk to and complain about the music to. Someone to sympathize on the torture I was being subjected to. Thankfully you mentioned it was a bar so you COULD just go out and sit in the car and listen to ROCK until your friend is ready to go. Although you might get beat up for it.. hehe. Yes, I think I would need more than $50. [minx267]
Did you like the Tracy Lawrence concert? LOL He's actually pretty good. I've never had the chance to be a designated driver but I certainly could be as I don't drink. Cheers [libby2009]
Yes, since I pretty much quit drinking years ago, and my hubby is a regular drinker, I am always the DD. That is, IF I want to go where he wants to go. rofl And I love country, so it woulda been a hoot for me to get paid to go where I enjoy the music anyway. Not a bad deal. [AnnieOakley1]
